A privileged peep inside a hidden stash house in the remote north of Scotland, where some very special vintage mountain bikes and parts are being hoarded.
The suntour group sets are superb 👌 and hard as nails and always work unbelievably well. xc comp I've never had better, especially the thumb shifters, great vid 👍 👌 👏
Yes, it's beautiful stuff. Arguably better than the Shimano of the same era, but the latter won the war thanks to better marketing and general business manoeuvring.
holy shyte!! thank you again for this video. That KHS proves my legitimate claim that that exact year serrvo window lever does work great with v-brakes. I had a set from an 80s cannondale. they were amazing and i have no idea why i ever got rid of them. cheers again from Nova Scotia!
Those servo wave window levers are so exotic, they kill me. Sorry to say however, these ones are paired with XT cantis, not V-brakes! The XTR V-brakes are paired with XTR levers on the KHS, the XT are on the Marin next to it. It's easy to get blinded by so much titanium exotica all piled high in this stash.
I think you can see the matching headset on one of the Reilly road bikes unless it's just out of shot. I didn't even bother talking about the mountains of Chris King stuff because it's all brand new!
I had the campagnolo thor rims, they were wider and impossible to break, campag used 7075 aluminum for their rims, mavic used a duralamin, a 2000 series aluminum that had a longer fatigue life but were weaker and more flexable
Good point - apart from the Stheno rims this man's collection is woefully lacking! If you ever happen to see a Record O.R. groupset and Electa saddle going cheap, please tip me off.
@@red_dreadhave a full record or group set, virtually nos positioned on a pristine steel nice frame , also 😢have a few pieces of record or , and a few Euclid , but I’m keeping hold , as regard electa saddle , they do come up for sale now and then but they have always been more than I’m willing to pay for a nos one.. always preferred either the turbo or the flite , which are fitted to most of the fleet, FUNK,Ritcheys, Breezer etc as they always looked just so right
A lot of secret dumps like this in the Vancouver BC area. During the pandemic I saw a lot of low mileage “dentist “ bikes get hauled in to shops for a dust off and tune. (Nibs still on tires) I know one collector with almost 50 bikes who wont let anyone view them for fear of having the stollen.
I love a secret dump. There's a great one near me in England, with some truly astonishing one-offs (including one of the world record Graeme Obree track bikes), whose owner exists almost entirely off-grid.
I wonder if the owner of this secret stash might be interested in such a trade? Certainly between us we seem to find Pace forks fairly regularly but those ti flexstems are rare over here. His has had the handlebar cut down too, which was the fashion back then but is rather impractical.
I did get the ones I needed in the end - however I can't resist hearing more about this Alpinestars... Can you tell me more on oliver.chesher@yahoo.co.uk? Could be an interesting challenge.

@red_dread I'm building up a yeti pro fro its going to another full suntour group set hopefully 👍

@@red_dread no need to say sorry at all. The thing I tried and did to make levers and old brakes works. wow !!
Pink Chris King hubs. Yes please! Matching headset too would be great 🤤

I've always been very loyal to Mavic, but that's not to say I wouldn't have had those Campag rims at the time if I could ever find or afford them!
I’m sitting here looking at 10+ bikes all pre 96, best years ever .. I see lots of suntour stuff in this video but where’s the Campagnolo 😳

I have 2 of those nos ti flex stems some day we may have to do a trade, I need a rust bucket pace 35 to restore, not many here in the states.

That old yellow Judy looked like more than the normal extra 20mm travel kit. Or is it just me?
I didn't look too closely, sorry - too much other stuff to get distracted by!
@@red_dread that was a ton of stuff for sure. epic !
Dread another tasty video with some savory treats. The cartel thanks you
Very soon when paper money will become irrelevant and oil will no longer be pumped this man will become a mogul.
He'll have to fortify his stronghold a little.
North Yorkshire Dales? You’ll have to tell me where THEY are…..
I've got 231s lool, you want them dread, you can take this alpine stars they're attached to....for me it's a busted project.
