Not yet but maybe someday soon. I’m 58 and the clock is ticking down! I’ve been a long time subscriber and it’s funny how closely our skill level has tracked over the years but I think you have now clearly taken the lead!
I went closing weekend for my first trip with my wife for my 40'th Birthday. Stuck to mostly green trails as I hadn't biked that fast in the rain and wet snow. The next year I went but fell and dislocated my shoulder after a couple hours in a fall. 2022 I was finally able sample most of the trails, mostly blues with sections of black trails. A-line was so blown out from Crankworx that I didn't ride it much. I rode Original Sin once then they closed it because it was so blown out. I spend a lot of time on Crank it up, C-more and Blue velvet trying to get comfortable with the speed and length of trails. Most of the trails that I ride are 1-5 minutes at a slower pace.
I went for the first time last year when I was 50 but I wasn't as good on A line as you though. Nice job! Going for the second time this Setpember and can't wait.
Went to whistler about 4 years ago. Going back this year. I'm 46 and have been through multiple serious surgeries on my ankle and my mountain bike days are getting fewer and fewer. I live 10 hours drive away so not so hard to get there!
Man you look great for 50. I just picked up mountain biking again at 48 I used to ride back in the day when I was in my late teens. All I gotta say is Thank god for e-mtb’s.
Excellent 👊 I’ve only recently been disclosing my age to the MTB community. At now 58, I “ aspire to inspire” . People need to know it doesn’t have to be golf and bowling ( not that there’s anything wrong with that) . Stay fit, stay strong, stay stoked and you can keep checking whatever boxes you see fit. Long live the 50 something senders to pave the way 💪 And yes we’ll be hitting Whistler again this year, along with Highland on the East coast in NH 💯🔥
Hey nice to see that you are riding this good at your age, I did purchase my first ebike and only bike at 43 years old and I was undecided about it because I thought I was to old for the sport you know what I mean, I see kids and teenagers jumping with out protecting gear .,and here I go riding like robo cop haha , well I’m responsible father and head off the house you know so I cannot afford a injury, but I been pushing my self to ride more technical trails and learning a to jump on my own, and just yesterday I did a gap jump, almost didn’t make it and told myself maybe I pushing myself to much but after I sow this video I know that I need to keep riding more and just go at my own pace at the black diamond trails., thanks for inspiring video.
Heck yeah, man! I will say that I have taken the slow and steady approach to progression. I've had my fair share of ER visits and surgeries. Not recommended. 😆 These days, I progress a little at a time but consistently. 🤘🏾
My hats off to you sir I’ve always wanted to go to BC just for that I’m 57 and just got back into riding. That trail was beautiful until the sketchy part! Roll on and keep it safe!
Thanks! Get yourself up there! Whistler has so much variety and it's just a blast to be in such a legendary mountain bike spot. I loved everything about it, the trails, the people, the village, and the surrounding area.
Great video! I did my first lap on A-Line last year, on Fathers Day, at 64 yo. It was a blast. I remember my Son’s words of instruction, “ If you think you are going fast enough, you are not going fast enough. ‘ I ended up scaring the heck of of my Son. No crashes and only cases one jump. Can’t wait to go there this summer. Look forward to watching more of your videos. Cheers!
Heck yeah! LOL! That is a great bit of instruction for A-Line. I was not prepared for the speed. Also looking forward to getting back to Whistler. Yew! Thanks for watching!
I was wondering how much speed is optimal. Looked like, more the better, scary fast. Congratulations to both of you. I’m 55 and hope to get to Whistler soon. Loved the video, soundtrack is awesome, Alan.
It is a fast trail, but more speed isn't always better. Most experienced riders on A-Line actually ride it a bit slower than I was going and do more pumping and popping. As far as optimal speed...? You have to ride it a few times to know the feel. But A-Line is one of the best built jump lines you'll ever ride, so the jumps are consistent and dependable. Once you get a feel for a couple of the jumps, you're set up well for most of the trail.
Will be hitting Whistler at the age of 50 this summer!!! Fantastic music along with the riding!! I also begin MTBing at the age of 40 and will continue to ride til my last breath! FYI, we have a Cuban and Colombian crew hitting canada!! Sason!!!!
@@mtb_alanHaha, no... Lusted after a picture of it online and bought it before I ever put it under me. I started with a budget of $600, went for one pretty serious ride, crashed, and immediately pushed my budget to $3,600.
😆 That's how it goes! I got the used Rockhopper for 500 and within a few months was buying a used demo bike from a shop for like 2K. Next bike was 5K and on up it went!
Nice Riding! The technology has certainly evolved the last 25 years. I started on 2 inches of suspension in the rear at 26 years old back in 97. Now at 52, I ride my motorcycle to Whistler and Silver star ✨. Rent the latest downhill 29er and rip like a rockstar on 10 inches of travel front and back. Ive met riders in their 60s on black runs. Ride till we die brother 😅
Proper sending and ripping mate! I believe age is just a number. I am turning 50 years this summer still doing about 5 weeks a year of bikepark with my son (12) :-) with Whislter / blackcomb mtn high on the wishlist !
I've heard about this line for years and now great to see what it's all about, thanks for taking us along. You may be 50 but I bet you feel like 16 again after a day like that 🤙
Wow! Thanks! That's a huge compliment! I actually had a BMX for a little bit when I was a kid and took to it naturally. But the other kids didn't accept me because of the color of my skin. I left bikes for skateboarding for many many years. I'm glad I found my way back!
Man, I love this. As another brown man on bikes (from Mumbai, India), I love seeing brown representation in this sport, not to mention at the level you've taken it to. Great run, even better message conveyed. Maybe one day if I ride the west coast we can run a curry train down some jump lines 🤙🏽
straight brought it! Thanks for the video. I didn't even start mtb until I was 52. I'd love to get there some day. I pretty much ride SC Dogpark, San Juan and other OC spots. Have a pass to Skypark also but have only gone a couple times. You really inspire me and stoked you are local so I can watch your content prior to going on some local trails
Hell yeah! I think with what you're riding, you'll be decently prepped for Whistler. If by "other OC spots", you're talking some of the "off menu" stuff, that's great prep for Whistler's double-black tech. Snow Summit's Westridge is good prep for Whistler A-Line though A-Line has bigger jumps and can be faster. I really want to hit the new large double at Dog Park!
Outstanding. I'm 49 and just got into mtb about 6 months ago myself. I can't wait to get to whistler. Mtb has become a passion and therapy for me. Love it! Was out for couple months with broken wrist and injured knee due to a bad landing but got back out a few weeks ago and feeling good. You're videos are inspiring.
Sir, i´m 40 years now and i love mountainbiking. I´m glad to see your skilled driving and i hope i can do for the next 10+ years. Keep it on. Greetings from Germany.
I'm 49 and have a yearly pass at Northstar. Try to get to Whistler every couple of years, the trailbuilding there is so good! And if you want to get out of the park there are tons of amazing trails everywhere in that part of BC. Keep shreddin brother!
You sir have given this 42 year old, recently rediscovered mountain biking again in my late 30's hope. And yes, Whistler is on the bucket list. Even if I get there at 50.
Heck yeah! You got this. TBH, I'm glad I didn't get to Whistler until I had been riding for a while. Whistler has something for everybody, but having the skill and confidence to ride everything there was epic!
I feel you on the age thing and although the reason I might feel different Is my handicap and not my culture, I love watching you progress, and to be honest, I love the perspective you bring to our niche and the vibe of this video. Thank you for being you and not going the easy route with hard rock 😂
Hell yea! im 52 and just started mountain biking 18 months ago. I started on stairs...just starting to make my way on trails. WELL DONE! we old people can still do it
This video brought back great memories for me. I rode Whistler and A line for the first time in 2022. As you were clearing the moon booster, I instinctively let out a yell (like I did that day back in 2022). Thanks for taking me back!!
Thanks for being an inspiration!! I really got into mountain biking when I was 43 as well. 46 now and I feel like I need another year or two before hitting A-line. You looked great out there! Also stoked I briefly got to chat with you at the hotel lobby at Whistler. You're just as nice in person as in your videos.
Yo! Good to hear from you! Yeah, I was glad I had spent some time really working on my jumping skills and confidence before riding A-Line. That being said, it's a pretty safe trail to ride. The only full commit feature is the rock drop on the lower part, but I think there's a go-around for that. Thanks for the kind words. Hope you get to make it back there this season!
Thank you so much for that video! Your run together with the music is almost kind of meditative. I watched it after a particularly hard day at work and it really calmed me down. And also thanks for showing that you're never to old to start with mountainbiking. I started only last year being 38 and in comparison to most others I encounterd i feel quite old. Thanks for giving me hope, that you can still get that old if you start later in life!!!
Thanks for the kind words. I'm stoked to hear you got some peace. And heck yeah! We never to old to be a beginner. I know it can be weird to be the older one, but we also often more capable of appreciating the meaning of the joy we get. 👊🏾
@mtb_alan You know what, you're absolutely right! I stumbled onto channel by coincidence. But I'm absolutely glad I did. I got to catch up on your vids!👊
Well done, my good man! It is one of the most powerful messages I've experienced and you didn't have to say much. I can relate on so many levels. Thank you, Alan!
Congrats! I truly enjoyed watching your experience in whistler. I live here in Vancouver and whistler is only a couple hours away. Sometimes I take it for granted because there is so many awesome trails to discover here. I’m also turning 50 (74) keep ridding stay strong age does not define us. 👍
When we started riding in the 90s we had “influencers” Timo n JC on Helltrack, the JAW Drop and the onslaught of Rampage, Bourdon’s flat spin,CG,Bass,The Cranked Videos,Dangerous Dan Big Red Ted Paddy K,Schley,PeteyMinaarPalmerRennieGravesVouilloz anyway maybe post your Aline run on the last day when you don’t case all the jumps. Good luck!!! Have fun mountain biking!!!
Looks amazing. I’m 52 and only got back on the bike a couple of years ago. Broke my arm last year which took 6 mths to recover from and had me questioning if I’m too old. I’m back out there and building skills and getting to spend time with my teenage son doing something we both enjoy.
Epic video!! Wow, absolutely blown away. Congratulations on riding A-Line! I started MTBing this past spring at the age of 46, it’s been extremely humbling but also offering a lot of personal growth along the way. Every time I ride, I’m learning something, and it feels great. My goal is to one day ride A-Line in Whistler, your video shows me it is possible. Thank you for sharing this with the MTB community.
Thank you for posting this. As a mid-40s dude who got into mtb a year ago, this is super inspiring and one of my favorite videos you've done. Much love and respect!
Nice video! I'm 47 and thanks to your Snow Valley Guide I did it last September! First time on a Bike Park. When you did Whistler? It looked empty. That's the kind of day I will love to go.
Thanks! Glad the vid helped. I went in August. It was pretty empty because it was later in the day. During that time of the season, they stay open pretty late and most people are done riding by the afternoon.
That's freaking awesome hitting A-line at 50yrs young. More power to you. I'm 54 and love to ride my mountain bike as much as possible. I went from an HT to an all mountain bike last season and enjoyed it. Just recently went to a short travel bike. More my speed.
Great riding! I am 58 and just started a year ago and by the end of Summit season was hitting, clearing and not casing all the jump lines including the tombstones of Muscle Beach. I did have a MX background though. I’ve seen you there also and you are smooth. I thought you were 30s! Keep it up Alan! A line next year for me..
Incredibly stoked for you in accomplishing something so intense!!! Loved watching this, as a 50 myself I've been diving back into biking and loving it. Keep on riding in the free world brother!!!
i went to whistler last september (58yo). my jumping needs work, so i stuck to the tech trails. i’ve been working on my jump skills since i got back. i will be back this year sometime
Hell yeah! Good stuff. I have been slowly but consistently working on my jump skills. I find it's a lot more of a slow progression than tech skills. But it's well worth it. I love flying now!
Awesome to see your progression! I turn 50 this year and did not really start MTB'ing until 2019. I was mostly a road cyclist at that point and had only ridden a MTB a couple handfuls of times before that, but honestly did not love mountain biking at that point. Started slow with mostly XC type trails, but I got a good bike (then many more), took a couple riding classes along the way and decided to give it a real go and have been in love with it ever since.
I don't think I've seen the braking bumps this clearly on other videos...monstrous!! I picked up a bike at 45 (now 47); maybe someday I'll make it too.
Ha! Yeah...this was August 2023, and the bomb holes were legit. Grateful for the Reign SX for that. Definitely make your way to Whistler when you can. I was glad I spent some time getting my tech and jump skills together before heading up, but there are trails for every level there.
That's awesome. I think it's so cool that our generation is redefining growing old. When I got back into mountain biking at 50, I thought I'd be the oldest person out there, but most of the people I ride with are in their 40s or 50s, and they are crushing it. No boring XC lines for the kids of the 70s! Bonus point for the music, by the way. 6:35
dude, killing it and I can tell alot of hard work in getting confidence in your technique in compression and timing off the lip and the little bit of style w/ the bar turns
Dang bro! Inspirational! I started riding MTB at 36... 38 now... Just had my first "serious" injury (damaged rib cage), and I'm off the bike for at least 4 weeks... have you had any major injuries, as this is quite challenging for me mentally at present, so was wondering if you have any tips?
Thanks! Sorry to hear about the injury. I've had a couple major injuries. Separated shoulder was the first one, but the worst one was the dislocated lunate. Yeah...it was challenging both physically, emotionally, and mentally coming back from that. My tips are to take it at your own pace and work on being kind to yourself. Leave ego in the parking lot. Pay attention to your skill gaps and spend time working on them. More than anything, confidence is trust. Knowing you can trust yourself to do the right thing. Trusting yourself to walk away from a feature that you don't feel ready for even if you're the only one in a group to skip it. I've skipped stuff that less capable riders were sending because I just wasn't feeling it. Confidence is a habit of building the skills that make you capable. It's a habit of believing in yourself enough to say no today but yes tomorrow.
Bro, as another guy born in 1973...keep on sending. I started riding again about 5 years ago...busted clavicle 2 summers ago, then busted the other one this past summer, but no regrets LOL. We can keep up with the young guns...we just don't bounce as well when we crash, haha 😃
Yes! I feel you. I have had my fair share of dislocations, separations, and breaks. Actually hobbling around on crutches for the next couple weeks with a fractured metatarsal. We don't bounce back as fast, but that's just because we have our rebound set right. 😆
This is so sick!! I'm 20yrs old and sometimes I put tons of pressure on myself because I don't ride as fast or as good as I like or if I don't hit the biggest jumps, but this video gives me confort seeing that there is no such thing as "too old". You hit these jumps so good and the bike looks fresh! This is my first time on this chanel.. and for sure I'll come back for some more motivation hahahaha
That’s the fastest I’ve ever hit like on a video. Great stuff dude. As someone who started riding four years ago at 37 I found this really inspiring. Turning 40 was ”a bit” of a mental struggle for me 😅
This was my first trip to Whistler, and it was amazing. Have you made it to the MTB Mecca yet?
Not yet but maybe someday soon. I’m 58 and the clock is ticking down! I’ve been a long time subscriber and it’s funny how closely our skill level has tracked over the years but I think you have now clearly taken the lead!

Hell yea! im 52 and just started mountain biking 18 months ago. I started on stairs...just starting to make my way on trails. WELL DONE! we old people can still do it
Heck yeah!
Bro, how are you so casual about this. I would be freaking the fk out 😂
😄
This is soooo refreshing with this music ! Thanks ! And Nice ride
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
I'm 56, and I started mtb at 49. And I too must go to whistler. Great job!
Thanks! Yeah...get yourself to the mecca!
This video brought back great memories for me. I rode Whistler and A line for the first time in 2022. As you were clearing the moon booster, I instinctively let out a yell (like I did that day back in 2022). Thanks for taking me back!!
LOL! Yes! IYKYK!
Excellent ride and great music!
The drone of the sitar is perfect for the constant focus of MTBing!
Thanks!
Damn, happy birthday man!
🙏🏾
Great to see you do this! I’m 48 and started this adventure just now. Aiming for Leogang at 50 😎
Yo! That's awesome!
You are rocking it Allen. Thank you for always such great videos and great riding.
❤️👊🏾
👊🏾😄
Wow man. You’ve really come a long way since your earliest videos. It’s cool watching you grow as a rider. Your videos are great
Thanks!
Well done, my good man! It is one of the most powerful messages I've experienced and you didn't have to say much. I can relate on so many levels. Thank you, Alan!
Wow! Your comment gets me stoked. ❤️
Thanks for letting me know. 🙏🏾
Congrats! I truly enjoyed watching your experience in whistler.
I live here in Vancouver and whistler is only a couple hours away. Sometimes I take it for granted because there is so many awesome trails to discover here.
I’m also turning 50 (74) keep ridding stay strong age does not define us. 👍
Thanks! Y'all have some amazing trails up there. 50 has been my best year so far! 🤘🏾
I love the music in this - totally different vibe! 👌 Keep biking forever, man - best feeling in the world.
❤️🤘🏾❤️
Man! you're such an inspiration for all of us! i want to see myself @50 riding too! and jumping too lol
Heck yeah! I have been building skills and technique slowly and consistently. :)
@@mtb_alan good for you man i have few biking vids here in our local trail here, but damn Whistler is a must place to go! Watching your vids now lol
@@ryanandclarevlog3477 Whistler is a good one to be at the top of your bucket list.
@@mtb_alan hopefully this year i can go there! Just one province away
@@ryanandclarevlog3477 Yew!
Dang Alan, I didnt realize you can join me at AARP :) Thanks for the vid.
How I operate, I could join a lot of clubs. 😆
Awesome job! Your riding is great!
Thanks!
Looks like a good time!
It's a blast!
🎉 You win this week's award for *Most Jaded Comment*! 🏆
Looks amazing. I’m 52 and only got back on the bike a couple of years ago. Broke my arm last year which took 6 mths to recover from and had me questioning if I’m too old. I’m back out there and building skills and getting to spend time with my teenage son doing something we both enjoy.
I know the struggle of coming back from a major injury. Good on ya! 💪🏾
Heck yeah! MTB is a great sport. Stoked for you. Thanks for the kind words. 👊🏾
Thank you for posting this. As a mid-40s dude who got into mtb a year ago, this is super inspiring and one of my favorite videos you've done. Much love and respect!
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Loved the music, love the riding. You should be super proud of your progression on your mountain biking journey.
Thanks! I am proud, and I have a lot of gratitude for those who have supported me along the way. ❤️
Dude!!! Totally sick!!! I'm turning 50 this year and I know I'm not up for that! You killed it!
Yo! Thanks!
The beautiful thing about Whistler is they got fun for everybody!
That's freaking awesome hitting A-line at 50yrs young. More power to you. I'm 54 and love to ride my mountain bike as much as possible. I went from an HT to an all mountain bike last season and enjoyed it. Just recently went to a short travel bike. More my speed.
Nice! That's rad to hear!
Heck yeah! Looking forward to more Summit and Whistler this year!
I like the chill music with the intense riding. Some day I'll make it out to Whistler.
🙏🏾 Yeah! Make it happen. You won’t regret it.
Exemplary skills. Nice how you're so considerate of other riders too.
😊🤘🏾
So chill! I had to stop what I was doing and just enjoy the ride! Great vid!
Dang. Thanks! ❤️
Nice one man! Next time come earlier in the season when A-Line is buff and mint. Morning laps are pure joy. Cool air, no dust.
Thanks! Copy that. Planning on June.
Thank you so much for the video made my crummy day better. Keep killing it!
Sorry to hear you were having a crumby day. Stoked this vid helped!
Incredibly stoked for you in accomplishing something so intense!!! Loved watching this, as a 50 myself I've been diving back into biking and loving it. Keep on riding in the free world brother!!!
Yo! Glad you're stoked! And stoked for you getting back into biking! 🤘🏾
Awesome, deep breath into the last corner before the moon booter... and you smashed it! 👌🏻
Always good to reset before that jump. :)
Thanks!
i went to whistler last september (58yo). my jumping needs work, so i stuck to the tech trails. i’ve been working on my jump skills since i got back. i will be back this year sometime
Hell yeah!
Thanks! I say as long as your having fun!
Heckin' A! There are too many ways to stay young.
Rage against the dying of the light!
dude, killing it and I can tell alot of hard work in getting confidence in your technique in compression and timing off the lip and the little bit of style w/ the bar turns
Thanks! Definitely took a lot of work and at least one separated shoulder. 😆
Nice video don’t worry I case most of those jumps too and I’m 47 but I’m gonna get better this year../❤
🤘🏾 I never worry about casing jumps.
@@mtb_alan awesome 😎 but you cleared the moon booter!
Love that jump!
Alan, you're awesome. Great to see other South Asian MTBers (feels like there aren't a ton of us). And you really don't look a day over forty...
Thanks! Yeah, we are few in number but deep in soul. 🤘🏾😁
Well done great video and a good A line run .
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
The tires sound when loading are musical effects.
One of my favorite sounds. 🤌🏾
What a sweet video, great soundtrack, super chill vibes and absolute shredding! Keep it up🤙🏼😎
🙏🏾 Thanks!
Nice video! 😃 👍 👌 💪 🚴♂️Nice ride!
🙏🏾🤘🏾
Great rip Alan. And you got decades left to get after it.
Heck yeah!
I’m 49 and enjoy all sorts of cycling and other outdoor pursuits. You certainly inspired me. Power to you bro. 🤜🏻🤛🏾
❤️👊🏾❤️
53 and still riding Whistler. I started mountain biking early but didn't really get into it deep until I was 40 and started riding DH.
Heck yeah!
Shred those trails Old Man!😅 I'm 54, I can say that 😁
Heck yeah! 🤘🏾
Wow that's rad. I'm 50 . Being old rocks.
💯🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
This is so sick!!
I'm 20yrs old and sometimes I put tons of pressure on myself because I don't ride as fast or as good as I like or if I don't hit the biggest jumps, but this video gives me confort seeing that there is no such thing as "too old".
You hit these jumps so good and the bike looks fresh!
This is my first time on this chanel.. and for sure I'll come back for some more motivation hahahaha
Stoked to hear it!
That was super satisfying to watch, well done and kudos to you Alan
🙏🏾
That’s the fastest I’ve ever hit like on a video. Great stuff dude. As someone who started riding four years ago at 37 I found this really inspiring. Turning 40 was ”a bit” of a mental struggle for me 😅
Ha! Thanks for the like.
We all have our struggles. And to struggle is the most human thing. 🤘🏾
You're 50? You look so good! Well done man!
Thanks!
nice one alan always ride safe 🤘
Thanks!
This is so zen, dude
🙏🏾
