- Welcome to my channel! Here you'll find folklore from across the British Isles. In this video I take a look into Vampires from the folklore and mythology of England, Wales, and Scotland. These creatures of the night are usually just associated with Slavic folklore, but Britain has many legends of the undead too. The tales I cover are:
The Melrose Vampire (Scotland)
The Glamorgan Vampire Chair (Wales)
The Vampire of Croglin Grange (England)
The Highgate Vampire (England)
The Buckinghamshire Vampire (England)
The Alnwick Vampire (England)
The Beobhan Sidh (Scotland)
The South Shields Vampire (England)
The Gorbals Vampire (Scotland)
The Berwick Vampire (England/Scotland)

You sound like your from up the road from me
CartmanbraahNd6 Where ya from?
I'm from Middlesbrough bro
Ah cool. I’m a bit further north.
You should do a video on Irish vampires
When i used to live in Edinburgh myself and two friends were walking down Pilrig Street at around 3am when we saw a tall, thin 'man' standing at the entrance to Rosebank Cemetery probably 100 - 150 yards ahead of us. We didn't really think much of it but then he turned his head and looked at us. His eyes glowed yellow(not bright like headlights, but we could clearly see they were yellow). We automatically slowed our walking pace and done a double take, looking at eachother, confused. The 'man' then raised his head as though he was inhaling deeply then dropped to all fours like a dog and darted across the road, and leapt over the wall leading into a public park.
We heard some weeks later that a number of people had seen a similar figure in the same area dating back to at least the 1930's.
Aye fuckin right mare like yewir pished😂😂
@@macdonald523 Well you're certainly pished.
I love vampires 🧛🏻♀️
So do I 😊❤
Me too....😈
I love Vlad Dracula, because he tried to be diplomatic, before the poles came out.
But do they love you back is the bigger question?
Too bad they don't love you back!! All they need.. is blood... :)
I’ve never been to these places, but looking at it’s folklore makes me want to. I love the ancient history of these places.
"The air suddenly turned freezing cold."
Ahh, another Tuesday in England.
😂 👏👏👏👏
Glad to see the revenants are included, our own native vampires!
Yes a vampire is just a blood-sucking revenant really. The word vampire didn't arrive in Britain until a couple of hundred years ago
So many intriguing stories, only one i'd actually heard of was the Highgate vampire
just the thing to watch at the witching hour!
the Highgate vampire is honestly fascinating as a topic, it was clearly built on sensationalizing vandals on a Victorian Graveyard that was in need of serious attention, if you even look it up, there were cases of vandals breaking into people's coffins and staking a woman's corpse I believe because of the Vampire Scare. It's morbid and also fascinating.
those vandals are mentally ill nut bags vampires are nothing more than superstition. but if they were real I would say let the vampires rule our world it would be an interesting premise.
Love the Gorbals kids. They get things done.
You told these stories like a good hearthside storyteller. Each story was riveting, and the background music was eerie. I watched this video on Smart TV before going upstairs to bed. I didn't quite want to turn off the lamp and fall asleep yet!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed!
I like folklore and wish I had discovered your channel sooner.
You’re here now fella :-)
3:24 Bad excuse for hickeys LOL
Imagine my surprise upon finding yr channel & discovering youre a fellow Geordie, man! Aalreet!
Loved yr vid so ive subbed & liked.
Heres something you may be interested in, in a few books Dracula or an aristocratic Lord who was turned by the Dark Prince, was known as Lord Ruthven ( i think it was also in a film too)
So you can imagine my jaw dropping surprise when i found out that the Deleval family of Seaton Deleval Hall, during the 1700's had a guest called Lord Ruthven & he apparently "died" in peculiar circumstances. This is verifiable in The History of Seaton Deleval Hall ( i have the book too) there is a place called Ruthven & a Ruthven Hall right next to Balmoral, the royal family Scottish castle.
Next i find, as ive lived in Seaton Deleval for years & other places within an 8 ml radius for decades i knew NOTHING about a huge mausoleum hidden in the trees away from Deleval Hall & the private cemetery of the Deleval family for centuries. Yet this huge mausoleum was built to honour & be the resting place of Sir John Delevals only son John who died in his 20th year.
I kid you not this place is vast its a fantasically architectured stately home centred upon an elevated island of land surrounded by a 6-7 ft high wall & unless yr very athletic or 15 yrs old is impossible to climb up.
Theres no bridge & it was supposed to have a water moat all around this mausoleum. Ive NEVER heard about this place until a few wks ago when my grandson & my daughter found it by accident. Theres a massive underground crypt thats bolted & chained behind a small door dug deep under the foundations.
Theres abit of graphiti on the walls of the mausoleum but its otherwise been left to the elements despite being owned by National Trust but.. its not advertised, not kept up, no links to Deleval Hall, its hidden half a mile from the Hall in a wood with a centuries worth of soil, dust, mud caked around the crypt door.
Its odd dont u think, that a Lord of Delevals only beloved son is supposedly buried, not on hallowed ground, nor would a Bishop of the time bless the crypt. Its never advertised nor refered to. Ive lived in this area most of my adult life & id never heard of it. Nor have friends & neighbours!
This mysterious Lord Ruthven ( a vampire lords name he adopted)
Visits The Delevals in 1700, dies in very peculiar circumstances.
The Deleval Lords 20yr old son dies but isn't buried in family graveyard but a huge mausoleum on a 2 or 3 acre elevated island in the woods with a locked & barred crypt under the edifice, door caked up wth eons of muck & grime....??
I dont think anyone has put 2 & 2 together before. So waddya think? Its all verifiable & theres even a cheapy tinpot video of the John Deleval Mausoleum, which doesnt show much but ive been digging & found further details.
Heard a similar story about the Pevanshi. Takes place in former Yugoslavia. A group of U.S. Special Forces Soldiers are on patrol run into some beautiful women, help them out, get gnawed upon save for one. He makes it across a bridge and into the back of M2 utility truck. Because the truck's tarp brace is against the back of the truck, it makes a threshold and he doesn't invite the ladies across so he's saved. Somewhere in the story hooves instead of feet comes up. Sounds like the outline of a crappier version of "Dog Soldiers" to me. Liked Dog Soldiers, though. It was fun.
Hello from San Diego California.
Salud
Just looked up Dog Soldiers! Thanks. I'll watch it tonight!👍
Dog Soldiers is a bloody brilliant film 😁
@@elizabethanthony3916 Right! It was on my list! You've made my mind up to watch it tonight. Thanks x
I think the Highgate Vampire story remains the most intriguing in our day and age because it feels closer to home because of its modern setting. There is something about these creatures having red blood eyes and pointed teeth like werewolves that was also experienced by the story of the kids in Glasgow in 1954. I know there is truth in this because in the early 1990's I also saw these red eyed creatures in my house. They seemed to be trying to hypnotize me. It was one of my many paranormal experiences that other people also experienced in the house.
The last picture of the vampire women is so beautiful.
Thank you! 😸
There's a bit more than just that to the vampire sidhe story as I recall, which involves messing with a sacred pool of water they guard.
I ❤ your channel! Greetings from Portugal!
Really enjoyed that. I agree that we need to pass on these stories to future generations..
Very interesting. Thank you!
Interesting. At +/- 6 minutes 15 seconds, Sean/Saun Manchester is mentioned as the vampire hunter, but the accompanying picture of a newspaper articles calls the hunter David Farrant.
Loved this video. My mum hadn't heard of the Alnwick Vampire, and she is from Newcastle
You should be doing our folklore as audio books, brilliant content as always
Thank you. Magical tales.
Village of Dent . North Yorkshire. You can see to this day a lead plug where the Spike went through his heart ❤️
I enjoyed your stories and narration.
Thank you my friend! You got most of them….most…of them…😄😉🧛🏻
As always...totally fascinating!! I enjoyed every minute and have shared details of your channel with others. Your hard work in bringing these intriguing tales, is appreciated, thank you.
Vampires are intriguing.
I love your accent
Thank you 😌
Love the video.🎉🎉
I love this music you use. Perfect.
Haunting music...💙💚💛💜💟
personally, the lesson i take away from the story of the melrose vampire is: your homies might abandon you, but your axe won't.
That kool to find out the old myths and legend thankk u keep up the good work
Great content and top quality choice of music
William the bloody (spike) is my fav 😍
Good to hear a proper accent. Talking about proper places too!👍
Good video, earned a subscriber.
I was hoping to find a folklore channel.
Great episode. It takes a lot to creep me out these days, but this did! Thanks Duke, Liked and Shared. Cheers, Kitty.
Ooh glad to hear it haha, thanks for sharing!
The first thing I noticed was Peter Gundry music! 🥰
Croglin vampire [nr Brampton, cumberland / cumbria]. only a few miles away from me. Spooky place at night time.
excellent story as always.
Cheers mate
Almost 4k subs! Goooood job, and amazing content.
Absolutely love all this old folklore stuff you gained a new subscriber my family came here to the states long ago from Liverpool England back in 1890 but im a firm believer that these things really do exist to this day in our modern era vampires and werewolves i had a run in with a vampire 🦇 here myself about 5 years ago here in the U.S.
Where is dio brando?

"I reject my humanity,jojo."
I loved it . I have read some of these stories but not all of them. Thank you for sharing them.
My pleasure Kathy. Just wondering, did somebody share this video do you know? I’ve got thousands of views overnight :-)
I found it while going down a rabbit hole. The title caught my eye.so I left a comment.

I just stumbled upon your channel and it was love at first view. I'd immediately subscribed. Keep up the awesome work!
Thank you my friend! Just wondering, did somebody share it?
Stoker made them popular, but bloodsucking ghosts or demons are nearly universal.
We welsh gave many vampires roaming the mountains and the valley's at night I married one
I just stumbled upon this story great. We have already aftter midnight i'am from Germany 😁🙋♀️
Welcome! I love Germany, great country!
Just found your really enjoyed this video x
Thanks Stephanie! Just wondering, did somebody share this video do you know? I’ve got thousands of views overnight :-)
@@TheJollyReiver your channel came up in my recommended section
Croglin Grange was taken from the penny dreadful novel "Varney the Vampire"
I suspect that vampires are real due to personal experience that I won’t elaborate on.
They’re not all bad, very polite in fact.
nice
nicer
Noice:D
To the vampire in the last story, I have this to say:
Villainy 101: You don't tell your enemies how to defeat you, stupid! 😂🤣😂🤣
I enjoyed the vampire tales , very well done this is the sort of subject that intrests me 👍
Heard of the Berwick vampire, tried to find the merchants house and grave but could not find them.
I filmed in Northgate back in 2018.
Hey The Jolly Reiver do a video of vampire stories from America and Ireland.
I feel sorry for the old baker.
To me vampires represent the controlled chaos of the undead contrasting the uncontrolled chaos of zombies. Sorry if the wording is a bit wiffy
I wouldn't look at it with a Hollywood mindset at all. This is authentic folklore, part of our heritage, not Hollywood tripe
Helm Cyning Fair enough
Melrose is where my familys old clan estate is!
I was thinking the other night about building myself a "custom sleeping casket". If you think about it, if designed right, you would sleep very well. Build it strong enough so that if your home collapsed in the night for any reason (like an earthquake or tornado) that you would remain safe. Have the ability to contact the outside world right in the coffin. Climate control to be comfortable. Padding for comfort. Soundproofing to make it quiet. And of course, lightproof. Might be wise to install a heavy-duty jack that could jack up the reinforced lid in case of earthquake or whatnot.
Don’t forget ventilation and air purification.
@@michelleresistance That is part of the climate control system.
@@NotSoCrazyNinja ah, I see. I’d like to take a look when you’ve done it.
@@michelleresistance Well, knowing me, I will think about it for a few years then maybe build it lol
I've seen something like that
Henry Dunant is an augmented Vampire no fangs , they are allies of the Draco E.T
Not this video on my recommended after vampire by olivia r comes out 😭
The Highgate vampire is still there he is called Marx...
He said vampires are associated with Medieval Slavic folklore, but they actually go back to the ancient Greeks and probably earlier. I never hear anything about that, I'm going to look it up...
Do more Welsh folklore boyo
The words are too hard to pronounce 😂
@DukeOfAvalon lol! Avalon is a Welsh place name! Try some others, admit it's not easy, but have a go, no one would be offended at that! You got Glamorgan right!
weird really on how the story at 3:55 ressembles Dracula in a strange way, Vlad attacked Lucy
What part of England holds the Highgate cemetery?
They say Spring-Heeled Jack may have been a vampire, but it was said he may have been other things too. Sadly, we will never know as very little is known about him.
The symbol at the start, can someone tell me what it means?
funny thing i worked door security ( bouncing) at a goth /children of the dark club and ive wore a lot of different hats since i got out of the Corps but after 12'weeks working the door and inside for disturbance rounds i quit because i got the dark urge to spike as many of these freaks through the heart as i could but something made me realize that they were lost and if i did id be way more lost than then kids
Can you do a vid about Sawney Bean please? All I know is that he was a local cannibal.
Can do yeh. I was in south west Scotland last summer, I should’ve got some footage while I was there dammit ha
Count Dankula has done a rather reputable account of Sawney btw.
He stated it was exagerated media, same as now, to sully the Jacobite's reputation.
He probably wasn't a canibal, just an highwayman.
@@TheJollyReiver I'm on the west coast and there used to be a pub called Sawney Beans with what was said to be a pic of his fam, but on a different wall it said he was a caveman. I'll check out the Counts take on it, cheers
Why don't the Sidhe ever visit me? I could look past the hooves as I'm not like Tarantino.
Bad video, you missed the great almighty Dio
MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA
Edit: it was actually a good vídeo, it's just a joke for weebs 😂

First time I ever heard the bean sidhe accused of being vampiric...
Not the bean sidhe, the baobhan sidhe. 2 separate entities.
@@TheJollyReiver Ah, my bad. Didn't hear it right.
With how many civilizations have a story of a immortal creature that feasts on blood, yet is in guise of a human, and doesn't qualify as living or dead.. I wonder if such creatures do in fact exist.. if they do.. I do not think they should be glamourized or feared.. but pitied.. death is not some divine punishment.. what is true punishment is never knowing deaths embrace.. never aging, seeing those you are attached to pass from this world to the next, yet you cannot follow them, due to your immortality
vampire
Just wandered what happened to the Robin Hood playlist.
I was just getting round to the last one.
Was it simply too hot/tribal for RUclips's plain beige and boring, outlook ?
White Awake, as ᛟllie ᛈlimsolls ! ᛉᛇᛏ ! I deleted it mate. I want to get round to redoing it because I think they could have been better.
VLAD THE IMPALER IS MY HERO ☦️❤️ AMEN PHILADELPHIA USA
So being a shit baker could lead to vampirism, good to know.
Varny the Vampire the penny dreadful
The plural of "is" is "are". Apart from that, good vid. It's not often people are able to collate such disparate tales.
Glad you liked it :-)
You forgot to mention my ex girlfriends...
Just thought I'd say Melrose is the most depressing town I have ever visited and I've been to a lot of places (Russia, Turkey, Cyprus, France, Ireland, Scotland and most of England and the UK in general. I often thought Caithness was grey and drab but.....
Without a doubt Melrose was instantly depressing, even sadly the people the town. I've never before felt a feeling of utter despair quite like Melrose and have never felt that way in any other place since.
If it was anything like that historicallly no wonder it attracted a vampire!
Great videos and most surprising. One suggestion, turndown the music volume please.
Ha ha, British vampires would sound like a lord or an aristocrat, not very intimidating, lol
The Gorbals vampire.
