I really glad I saw this video when I just entered my vampire obsession stage like a decade ago. I could have been one if the inseparable "it's not a real vampire" but it's a blanket turn to a reach cultural faumenal
Imagine a creature that is, by design, the perfect predator of human beings. Intelligent, cunning, and able to use a human appearance as a form of camouflage to move about undetected. Now imagine that creature is strong as a lion and has to consume it's body weight in blood every night. I think movies and television haven't made vampire anywhere near as frightening as they could be.
I remember in New Moon [gag] they told the story of how the wolves started when the "cold woman" came to destroy their people. in the movies, as horrible as they were, the actress who played the "cold woman" did a very good job of portraying exactly what you just described in just the few minutes of screen time she had, a vicious animal with human intelligence. just squint so you can't see the glitter 😅
I was going to say Wolfen until you said "human". I recommend reading the book or watching the movie though, because that's kind of what it's about: Man's natural predator living in hiding all around him, unseen.
Currently reading Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and the lore in the book is fascinating. There’s even some vampire lore in that book that we don’t remember, such as a wild rose stalk preventing the vampire from leaving its coffin, they can only transform at noon dawn or dusk, can ride moon beams, and they can actually transform into any for they wish (bat is obvious, but also wolf, and mist)

Vlad the impaler wasn’t the inspiration for Dracula. Stoker’s main inspiration was Irish mythology. He simply heard the name Dracula and decided he liked it
Interesting fact: Vlad Nabijač, Dracula's Museum, lived in Transylvania for only a short time, and the stories of the tyrant prince, known to many at the time for his Hungarian political enemies, are also a civic hero. Ninjaananas absolutely. And you are right, I guess sometimes we try to find humour in things that are very scary. In my home region (I live south of Mexico) a lot of people died last year (I know them directly) of Chinconcuya and not a single one was reported in the media. This year seems we will be hit with Dengue, Chinconcuya and Zika. The sad thing is that there is nothing you can do to prevent mosquitos nor stop them from bitting you (even long sleeves or mosquito repellent doesnt really work). Last year I got sick with Chinconcuya and it was so strong (I don´t normally get sick), my knees and ankles were hit hard. They are powerful illnesses and there is no vaccine, no cure and no way to prevent them. Global warming.

2:33 As an Albanian I wasn’t expecting that. The word Lugat completely terrorized our childhoods, but I thought it was a monster not a vampire. This video has taught me something about my peoples folklore I didn’t know about. Crazy.
I'm not completely sure but as a guess your native demon probably isn't presented as a "vampire" in your stories. I think these variety of bloodsucking creatures in myths around the world, initially unrelated to each other, were later lumped into the category of "vampire" in the modern era. It's kind of like the Chinese "dragon" has nothing in common with the medieval European dragon but these two were lumped into a common category because both were large snake-like creatures.
@@tapan97I know I’m replying over a year late but I think you’re wrong here because since this video came out I’ve asked around and it seems I was one of few who didn’t know the Lugat was a vampire like creature. Whenever we’re up late at night and see another family member awake the first thing we’ll say is “Çka je qu Lugat?”- “Why have you woken up like a Lugat?” Basically a vampire at night
@@bletrick3352 quite interesting, thanks for collecting new information. But I don't think it proves my conjecture necessarily wrong. It is still possible that the localised folklore in your region developed independently, and only later in the modern age it was discovered that other cultures also had similar myths. At that point it might have been included into the broad concept of the vampire. In any case this is all guesswork, so I very much might be wrong. Your information about the Lugat is interesting in providing a look at how localised myths can develop.

Mosquitoes are vampires, They look for blood at night
no at the dawn
The ironic part is that more people are going to die from mosquitos this year than from any other creature in the world.
+Fancy Furever
it is not funny but a plague
Now vampires represent sexuality and attractiveness
Thanks a book that was rejected 12 timesm....
Twilight wasn't the first to sexualize vampires, but it was the first that became so incredibly popular.

-Dio Brando, a time-stopping vampire
This my universe again now I need more.
why don't you say that word vampire came from 18th century Serbia?
I mean it's like he is intentionally going around the fact that Empress of Austria (Maria Theresia) sent her doctor to Serbia and not to some random country.
Word vampire comes from slavic wąpierz/wąpir
Paweł Gawralidis Well, Serbian is Slavic
Because Americans don't like serbians

Adventure time stakes.... that's why the vampire king has the head of a lion and bird feet. He was inspired by the Lamashtu and Striges!
Oh snap!!!
your onto somenthing . i think the moon was inspire by the mulai , vampires with long hair( her hair reaches her hips ) , one phisical odity ( her ear in the middle of her forehead ) and use light clothing . there praticualy vengefull to People who killed theme and love to harrase people . while the fool may have been inspire by the german alpe , that is more of annoyence than a treat , can fly and has a dunce hat ( or veil ) that gives him a comical image .
Alexandra Pinhao What country believed in the Mulai?
+Shannen Canton i think romenia ( weird because the moon has a very arabic / asian design go figure )
+Alexandra Pinhao she looks like me kinda haha
A record comes from the studio in New York City then L.A
Every vampire show describes vampires differently
Every vampire show takes inspiration from the same European Gothic folklore. It's getting really old and overdone now.

VAMPIRES DO NOT SPARKLE!!!!!
You damn right they don't!!!!
Tell that to edward
Who else watches Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
OMG yay I've watched it twice and am re watching it again lol. I'm re-watching Angel now too. #Obsessed
