@@poogly123 Technically, yes. Stuff like Lava Golem can out almost anything. It's also not too difficult to get a monster that can beat over it in battle. There's also drowning mirror force. Or if you want to be stylish, Cyber Angel Dakini (since no anaconda, you'll be summoning dragoon with fusion and probably an extensive red eyes engine, so it'll be your only summon for the turn).
Actually? No way. Just because something has counters to it doesn't mean that it is okay to be in the game. Most of the best outs to it aren't very commonly played, or could die to the negate if you don't have a follow up.

The funny thing is that the anime even references how Chaos Emperor Dragon being banned was something NEW at the time, as in one episode of GX a weird duelist who was using a copy of Yugi's deck from the original Yu-gi-oh was about to summon Black Luster Solider - Envoy of the beggining, and when he mentioned the banishing of light and dark, one of the people watching the duel talked about Chaos Emperor dragon, saying that only 2 cards were known to have such an effect, and that Chaos Emperor Dragon was so powerful that it was banned, and the only reason why Black Luster Solider WASN'T banned was because it was apparently so rare that some people doubted it's existence, basically an overly dramatic way mentioning the Banlist in the anime without outright calling it out, since a lot of banned cards are actually used in the anime regularly anyway, like Pot of Greed

@@mirageowl I think it would really help the game. Me and many of my friends used to play YGO very heavily back in 2013/14. The meta then was loose enough that our reject rogue decks could do decently well in tournies because we were good players. Then Nekroz launched in 2015 and the game just sped up to a point where you could not keep up. Some people may like that sure, but I don't enjoy trying to play the game only to get hit with a hand trap turn 1 and then spending 20 minutes just sat their bored as they pull off a combo to lock me down. A Synchro only format would be something I'd love as Synchros are my favourite ED monsters and they're the decks I have the most fun running. Giving players the ability to update old Synchro decks or homebrew completely new versions of decks would bring a lot of interest back to the game. MtG is arguably bigger than ever and a lot of that is down to the fact people have so many ways of playing the game, to the point it's a meme among fans. Actually getting Vampire Lord, as a kid with no way to really make money, was so huge. Every big card was, like buying Black Tyrano. Eventually I won a ObIlesk The Tormentor card in a tournament because of it, and I had figured out ways to start putting things in the grave. Having you explain the Dark Armed Dragon arch. Like that suddenly makes it make sense as to why it worked so well.
I didn’t actually have that dragon but wanted it so bad. And dueling network made that a dream.

Yeah they hit my PePe deck pretty hard almost immediately when it was released, the difference is though I looked at the new Pendulum mechanics as more of a "Revival" of older cards. Normal monsters were relevant again, normal AND older monsters. So that's what I did, I had two Pendulum decks, one was for my "Normal Revival" deck which just had a bunch of power house normal monsters levels 7 to 8. The second Pendulum deck was for my DM deck which was incredibly powerful and I'm surprised that not very many people played it considering the Xyz & Synchro capabilities, Pendulums were just the engine that made its older Spell Counter engine obsolete, though you still took some of the Spells that were good for a DM deck along with it like Dark Magic Attack, Thousand Knives, Spellbook, etc.
If more people had just simply caught on and accepted to adopting a Pendulum engine, they'd realize just how much more powerful their own personal & favorite decks would become. I can still remember the complaints when Pendulums first came out saying the mechanic was "too difficult" to understand, whether they were trolls or simply that ignorant, it made no sense that they couldn't catch on very quickly.

Zoodiac i would say is the genesis of how Konami designs top tier decks now, ridiculous consistency, godly comeback potential, the ability to be put in as a consistency engine. Sky Striker is my favorite variant of this design philosophy just cause it could actually be sided against amd was clearly designed with certain stop gaps you could hit that would slow their (multi) roll. I think Konami has learned and gotten better at balancing ridiculous consistency and power.

1: I have personally seen ai ff from a Yata Lock, it was in the DS game Spirit Caller, I did it against Crowley and that was the only time in the entire game a character surrendered.
2: In the TeleDAD era, the only deck that was able to compete in the slightest with it was Lightsworn, but it was generally understood that TeleDAD was objectively better.
3: Crush Card Virus was also around for a bit of the TeleDAD format and was swiftly banned with it's then current text along with Disk Commander. The only reason you didn't see more Crush Cards at the time was because it was so stupidly rare that there weren't enough to put in all of those decks. I remember that it was so rare that there were rumors running around that Crush Cards were sometimes hiding in the actual cardboard packaging of the Gold Series pack so everyone actually took the time to disassemble each box they bought.
