I am so thankful your video came up on my RUclips feed! I have containers full of offcuts that I couldn’t stand the thought of tossing! Now, I have the inspiration I need to actually turn them into something useful!! Thank you!
Hi Deborah - I hope you’ll give these patterns a try.
I love your square dance quilting. So much fun.
Thanks Sonia - I hope you will give it a try.
Loved this. I save left overs from sewing and flip method. Now you’ve given me something to do with them! Thank you. I keep watching your channel and learn so much each time. I’m going to a quilt retreat at the end of March and will be making three flippy bits quilts for babies.
Hi Susanna! I'm so glad to hear that you are enjoying my channel and patterns. I have really enjoyed sharing my passion for quilting with others. Have a fabulous time at your retreat and I hope the flippy bits quilts turn out well. Thanks for watching.
I keep the off cuts but haven’t made the hour glass units yet… now I’m inspired!
Thanks Cindy. I hope you will give it a try. The patterns are beginner friendly and I hope to develop more ideas for these little pieces.
This is AWESOME! Love it ! I have a jar full of the little triangles… so now I know what I’m going to do with them . Thank You!!!🤗❤️😘🙏🌹
Hi Sandra. I hope you will download the patterns from my website as two ideas to start using up those pieces!
Thank you excellent and a little bigger than my HST. Learning new tricks from you. Love your style.
Thanks Scrappy Quilter! I hope you will check out the patterns on my website for some ideas to use them.
I really like your square dance quilt. It’s very pretty
Thanks Kathryn. I hope you will download the pattern and give it a try.
I'm looking forward to a tutorial/pattern on the quilt behind you. I love this design.
Thanks Cristy! It's in the works. It's a scrappy / left-overs pattern and I hope to have a video out soon. Thanks for watching.
This is the best quilt show and demonstration ever. Her down loaded recipes for quilts are so clear and excellent. It’s my favorite channel now.
Thanks Sumo Fan! That's very kind of you to say. I have more videos and patterns on the way.
Clever use of those leftover flippy bits!
Thanks Lea Anne!
Brenda Logan sent me to your site. I subscribed. Love the Bits & Pieces quilt and the one pattern-five different quilts. Mary Douglass, Salina, KS
Hi Mary and welcome! Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the videos.
Oh my heavens I have been sewing my little bits together wrong! Your way makes it way easier and bigger squares. Hum I may have to unstitch some tiny blocks. I am binge watching all your videos.
Thanks Jean - I love these little hour glass blocks and there are two free patterns on my web site to use them - www.bitsandpiecesquilting.com. Way easier than the teeny-tiny HSTs! I hope you are enjoying the channel. Let me know if you have any feedback.
So glad I'm not the only one who saves corner-flip triangles! I've occasionally made pinwheel blocks from them but agree with you that the small size makes them hard to work with. I love your ideas for using the triangles to make bits-and-pieces blocks and I'm definitely going to try them. Thanks!
Thanks Toni! I'm glad there are others who save them too! I hope to develop some additional patterns for these bits and pieces. Stay tuned!
What a great idea! I love how you’ve made this little square from your leftover corner flips. I’m loving your channel - thanks for sharing.
Thanks Peg! With the cost of fabric (and overall environmental responsibility) it seems a shame to waste pieces that are useful.
My grandmother used to do this!!!
Hi Danny - I hope she has taught you how to do it too! Thanks for watching.
Ingenious!!! Now I need to go through my discarded bucket! 😂😊
Thanks Marcia! They are fun to make, I promise!
Excellent idea!!!
Great idea! What a sensible way to use those small pieces and make maximum use of your fabric.
Thanks Beth - I hope you will give this a try with your own left overs. Cheers!
Wow thanks for sharing! I also save bits and pieces, 😊 now I have a direction
Hi Rosemary. Glad you enjoyed the video. I hope you will give some of these patterns a try!
I love your quilts.
Thanks Karin!
I love your bits and pieces.❤
Thanks Susan - I hope you will give one of these patterns a try!
I have saved the the folded corners for years and made them into hourglass blocks which you have wonderfully
demonstrated. Now I know what to do with them!!!!! Thank you!!!
Thank Lynne! I hope you will give one of these a try. My plan is to work on sone additional designs for these hourglass blocks.
Great ideas 🤩.....love the quilts. Thank you for the video 😊👍💕
Thanks Wily Cat - I hope you will give some of these a try.
Just found your channel, after seeing what you have done with your “bits and pieces” I subbed immediately. I also save the HST I cut off of anything I use sew and flip on. I love the extra quilts I can make from them, your extra quilts are beautiful, I also love the quilt you dubbed as the manly quilt. Will now go check out your other videos.
Hi Hunter - thanks for your comment. Glad you enjoyed the video and hope you will give some of these patterns a try.
Thank you, what a great idea! I am using up scraps to make friendship star blocks.
Hi Barbara - that sounds like fun!
Very cute. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Leisa!
My Grandmother loved this tutorial!!!
Hi Danny - please say Hello and thank-you to your grandmother from me. I'm glad she liked the tutorial. I hope you find other videos on my channel that she enjoys (and you too!). Thanks!
That’s a great idea. You really know how to get the most out of your fabric. I’m going to give it a try.
Thanks Missy - I hope you give it a try - it's amazing how many bonus blocks you can get from many different projects.
I've been making these same little blocks with my cut offs, and wondering what to make with them! Thank you for some excellent ideas ❤
Glad you enjoyed them Joni - you can download the free patterns from my website at www.bitsandpiecesquilting.com.
Thanks you sharing your ideas. Love the quilts and the gray and white quilt behind you.
Thanks Janet. I plan to write up a pattern for the quilt behind me - it is very much a "Bits & Pieces" quilt, made up of the left overs and off cuts of about 3 different projects. If you look closely, you might see where I ran out of hourglass blocks and substituted some pinwheels instead. I don't remember if I was too lazy to make hourglass blocks or didn't have enough fabric! :o)
Hi Janet - not sure what RUclips is doing, but it has presented this comment back to me (from a year ago??!?). If you haven't seen it already, I did a video and pattern from the quilt behind me. Check those out! Thanks for your ongoing support for my channel.
Thanks for sharing
Love this!!!!!! Wonderful idea!
Thanks Anne - I hope you will save your bits and pieces and give these patterns a try.
I use these as my leader enders. Great video 😊
Hi Judith! Thanks for your comment! Great to hear from you. Leaders and enders is definitely another great use for these pieces. xo
@@bitspiecesquilting I love this pattern. Now I know what to do with them 😁
What a wonderful way to piece a bonus quilt. I've tried the extra seam for small hst's, but I also love the hour glass squares as well. Thank you so much!
Thanks Lori! The HSTs are just a bit too small for me - these blocks work better for my skill and style. I hope you find some inspiration to make the most of the bits and pieces.
Love this idea. 🥰🥰🥰
Thanks Teri - I hope you will save your sew and flip off cuts and give it a try!
Thank you
Excellent Idea!
Thanks Glenda - I hope you will give these patterns a try!
Love, love, love! So much better than making then into tiny HSTs! And i love the way you show how to randomize them! This has been my biggest challenge with doing anything scrappy! THANK YOU!
Thanks Debra! I'm a librarian by training, so always looking for a way to be organized, even when striving for chaos!! 😜
I’m enjoying your tutorials very much. I have lots of off cuts saved but didn’t have any ideas about how to use them. Now I do!
Thank you.
Hi Kathryn - I hope you will start to use them! There are a few free patterns on my website that use these pieces. Thanks for watching and for your kind words.
Exactly what I needed to see! Great project
Thanks CM!
Oh my goodness. Thank you for this tutorial. I dislike the small HSTs. The QSTs are perfect.
Thanks Marcella. I hope you will give this approach a try and download the patterns from my website for some ideas to use them.
Very nice!
Thanks Jip!
Very pretty!! Thank you for sharing your beautiful work!!
Thanks Lori!
Think the quilts you have made with some of your scraps are wonderful 🤩 Great use of all those cut off small triangles 👏👏🇬🇧
Thanks Glynis. Really appreciate your feedback. Cheers!
Great idea!
Thanks Linda!
Awesome idea! I think I'll start keeping those as well. 🎉
Yay! Thanks DamarisArts! They really are useful little pieces and fun to work with.
I have started just sewing another line about 1/2 in from the original sew line when adding a large square to the corner of a rectangle. Then when I cut, the small half square triangle is already sewn. 😊
Hi Pam. Your approach is certainly another way to make use of these off-cuts and I'm glad it works for you. I just find those little half square triangles really small and prefer to make the hourglass blocks instead. Thanks for your comment.
I have hated the sew and flip method because of the leftovers . Thank you for this idea.
Thanks Joan. I hope you will give some of these ideas a try.
@@bitspiecesquilting I just made the Brightly quilt and as a result have 62 little hourglass blocks. Doesn't take long to get a bunch
Hello. Just found your channel. What a fantastic video! Loved, loved loved it. I have a gazillion cut offs and usually trim them into 1.5 in HST's BUT I am now going to sew them on the long side and use your method to make the small hour glass units. They are more versatile than what I was doing. Thank you so much for this idea, it is very helpful and I have subscribed to see what else you have up your sleeve in the future . Happy sewing.
Hi Vangie. Thanks for your comment! I hope you enjoy the patterns that go with these hourglass blocks. I tried the small HSTs but much prefer working with these ones. Thanks for watching!
Nice work😊
Thanks Delwyn!
Hi ,Brenda ,from ' conquering Mount scrapmore' sent me
Hi! And welcome. I hope you enjoy the videos. And head over to my website at www.bitsandpiecesquilting.com for free patterns and projects sheets.
@@bitspiecesquilting Thank you!
This..... is genius!
Thanks Emi! I hope you start to save these pieces for future projects!
I love the way you use those tiny triangles. I have a hard time hearing you speak the voice over commentary though. I have all my volume controls set to 100%.
Hi Susan. Thanks for your feedback. I’ll take a look at the volume on future videos.
Ii found your channel. Conquering mount scrap more with Brenda.
Welcome Pamela! Thanks for watching.
Beautiful quilt
Thanks Wilma! You can get the free pattern on my website at: www.bitsandpiecesquilting.com.
New to your channel you voice is so smoothing and I love scrappy
Thanks Sandy and welcome! I hope you find lots of other interesting videos. Thanks for watching.
❤
Hope you enjoyed! The free patterns are available on my website at www.bitsandpiecesquilting.com.
I save mine also! Volume is a bit low.
Hi Vera - so glad to hear you save them too! Hopefully you have enough for a bonus project soon!
Before you cut the triangles off, sew another 1/4 inch line so the tips stay as tiny hsts...no sewing 2nd time on the bias.
Hi Kate - the mini HSTs are definitely an option to make use of the scraps, but I find them really small, so I prefer to make the hourglass blocks. They're a bit bigger and I've developed a few pattern ideas to use them. Thanks for watching.
Hour glass blocks
Thanks for watching Abigail!
i am saving all my wee half square triangle blocks from former projects and gathering ideas how to use them. Thank you!@@bitspiecesquilting
I'm glad you like them! There are some free patterns on my website as well at www.bitsandpiecesquilting.com. Enjoy!
Why don’t you sew an extra seam at the time you are making the block?
Hi Julie - in most cases, the sew and flip pieces start at 2.5 inches, so sewing the extra seam would produce a really tiny HST. They would likely finish at 1.5 or 1.75 at most and that is just too small for me. So I like combining the off cuts from two pieces (so 4 triangles) to get something a little bigger. The final hourglass block is 2 inches, which I enjoy working with. When I use the sew and flip method on something that is 3.5 inches or bigger, I definitely sew the extra seam. Thanks for watching!
I noticed on your Stars on parade batik version there was an error. One of your pieces was the wrong way around? Oops!
Hi Shirley - I have to go back and look!!! You are the first to point this out and now I have to go check. Thanks so much.
I think it stood out because the burgundy colour was offset to the other three in that pattern square. However it could just be me looking at it incorrectly?
Here's hoping it's bad eyesight!
Love the way you explain things so clearly! ❤
