      east coaster It's actually the lack of technology that appeals to me.....not the looks. I DO like the way that older bikes look, but it's the ability to really ride the machine that I like the most. I'll gladly admit that the electronics packages, on new bikes, is amazing. As amazing as it all is, I genuinely feel that it's all robbing the rider of that wonderful 'seat of your pants' experience that you just can't get, if something else is making all the tough calls for you. And, please don't take this the wrong way, as i'm sure that you're a decent rider, just using all that the bike can offer, to get the best result, BUT!!!!!! I do feel that a good electronics package replaces great skill. Not one person riding a new bike can actually say that they have great riding skill. The nanosecond that your ability to judge a situation is replaced with a machine that can do it for you, you've just lost that particular skill....And with a new R1? I'd reckon that you're just about a passenger. Treat yourself. Take an old clunker for a spin, and feel the freedom of choice!

    Revolutionary and a league of its own? You guys did notice the new S1000RR pretty much has everything 'revolutionary' about the R1M as well (and then some), right?
    Don't get me wrong, the R1 continues to be the most gorgeous super bike of the lot (has been for over 10 years now) and if I ever decide to get a super sport, it'll be an R1.
    But the S1000RR is probably the better (racing) bike.

    • @blue03r6
      @blue03r6 9 лет назад +2

      the s1000RR's seems a lot less adjustable. I think yamaha took it a little bit further for instance the adjustability of the electronic suspension. if the bmw can, they don't say so on their website.
      I also don't see any mention of the gyroscopic traction control and slide control etc etc. which are also rider adjustable. so it's not just a mode you live with.
      we are talking about the R1M not the standard R1 which I believe lacks most of the stuff in the video. it definitely doesn't come with the ohlins suspension.
      so in that aspect the bmw is a better buy. since it comes with better stuff for 16k. i think the R1m (the one in the video) is 22K

    • @cczeroX
      @cczeroX 9 лет назад

      blue03r6 The S1000RR does have the DDC (dynamic damping control) which is a fully adjustable electronic suspension as well as a traction control that takes into account things like lean angle and speed. Both of these are similar to what the R1M offers and they're adjustable from the dash board while riding. With the DDC you can adjust compressions and rebounds, with the DTC you can specify a general tier and you have an additional up/down-button to fine-tune the amount of intervention.
      With the Race Calibration Kit you can take it one step further and not only adjust TC individually for lean angle and speed but also the DDC based on track distance, allowing you to specify the suspension settings for individual parts of the track. And that's just scratching the surface.
      It's also got a GPS data logger as well as an up/down-quickshifter just like the R1M. I genuinely can't find a single feature in the articles about the R1M that the S1000RR doesn't have.
      So, given the fact that the new S1000RR has been released to the press about 3 months ago, I'd say whatever 'revolutionary' the R1M appears to have done, the S1000RR did it first.
      Doesn't change the fact that the R1(M) looks spectacular, though.

    • @angelocusipagable
      @angelocusipagable 9 лет назад +5

      But the R1 produces more champions than Ducati or the BMW S1000RR. From AMA to MotoGP 1, 2, and 3. Come again? You sure the S1000RR is a better race bike?

      J Costa Not for cruising, that's for sure. J, when you grow up and get married and have children you will reconsider street racing. Why? Why miss out on all that fun? Because only a real immature person would constantly put his life and limb at risk for the ego trip of being the fastest bike racer around. Anyway once you have children then you will grow up. You will need to be there for them all through their young lives. A dead, absent father is so sad for the children. So anyway once you have a family what do you do? You cruise! Cruising is still motorcycle riding but instead of racing you enjoy the view. Harley-Davidson understands that hence they make the most popular cruisers in the world. I'm 65 and I raced a 1976 T140V Triumph Bonneville on the back roads and super Parkway's of Long Island and I was "Undefeated" in 10 consecutive years of street cafe racing. I have never met anyone else who has accomplished that. So yes when I was young and single I enjoyed racing. Once I got married and had children I got my first H-D back in 1994. Guess what? I'm still riding and I am a cruiser. I enjoy riding on roads that I have never been on and I enjoy the beautiful world. I'm here looking at this Yamaha RZF-RM1 because I still love racing, but since I have nothing to prove to anybody about how good I am I will stick with my Harley-Davidson's. I am looking for a new bike and it is down to the H-D Road King and the H-D Softail Deluxe. I ride everyday. In fact when I was young I rode all winter long up there in New York, no matter how cold. No fairing and no wind shield either. BTW I purchased a side car and mounted it on my H-D and brought my son and my daughter along for the rides. I cruised along at safe speeds only with my beloved children with me. We never got hurt and now they are grown ups and I'm kinda old. Still riding. So please reconsider your knee-jerk insults toward Harley-Davidson's. If you live long enough odds are you may own one.
      P.S. I still have my Triumph Bonneville and she sit's not more than 20 feet from me as I type this in. Have a great life!

    • @YodaWasSith

      If I want to buy something crazy technical or expensive and I just want it sitting in my livingroom then that is what I will do.
      If someone can't ride for shit but buys a Ducati Superleggera or a Kawasaki H2R because that person has the money, I won't be upset about it at all. It's those people with deep pockets who allow companies to produce cutting edge technology.

    GOOD STATS FOR YOU................................................- 90% of all sportbike sales goes to "squid" riders.......these stupid douchbags give all mature, respectable sportbike riders a bad name- 90% of all sportbike riders will only utlize 30% of the bike's ability- 10% of all sportbikes will ever see a track day- 90% of all sportbikes riders will do the majority of their riding on the streetsI've only ridden sportbikes since my 20s........I'm no squid, I always wear my gear, I've take taken several MSF courses and ride responsibly......and now since I'm getting older, I am seriously considering get a a dual purpose or sport tourer bike. Why? Cause it's more comfortable.I really hate it when people pisses on sportbike riders just because they want a really fast bikeI really hate it when sportbike riders pisses on cruiser riders just because they want to cruiseI just really fucking hate the fact that people want to hate because they don't care or approve of the other's choice in bikeIT'S THIS FUCKING STUPID MENTALITY alot of motorcyclists have for one another that just absolutely makes zero senseWhy can't people just enjoy the ride????

    "Sorry but Kawasaki has you beat. Their h2 and h2r are miles ahead of your r1 and rm1"
    Gentlemen... I don't base my opinions on emotion like the dude who made this uninformed comment above. The H2 (Curb Weight 524.8 lb) and H2R (Curb Weight 476.5 lb) are significantly heavier bikes than the new R1 (437.8 lb wet)... if you do the calculations, the new R1 has a better or equivalent power - to - weight ratio than both.
    On the track? Would be pretty close to an even match - R1 to H2R, and the H2 would be left behind due to being so much portlier supercharger notwithstanding... the R1 will corner and accelerate much more quickly out of the turns, where track racing is won and lost... not on the straightaways. On price the R1 has both beat by a country mile... This confirms what both companies have advertised. The R1 is meant to be as close to Moto GP as legally possible at a relatively affordable price. The H2 and H2R is meant to be equivalent to owning a Bugatti... extremely exotic but only for the uber rich who have money to burn.
    I concede the Kawi models are very slick in black, but for everyday riding and street / track the R1 or R1M will win and is much more practical. Any bets on my comments when an actual straight comparison is performed?

    Is it just me or is the styling of bikes going downhill? In my opinion, 03-05 Honda, 05-07 Suzuki and 04-05 R1 (Not a fan of R6 styling) were the best models when it came to looks. Of course the bikes are improving in all other areas, but clean lines and slick silhouettes are slowly disappearing.

    Yeah, but is it going to be affordable for the common rider. What? You don't think we get enough tickets now with what we ride, that you want to give us a machine that will guarantee more tickets. I would certainly not put out the kind of money you'll be asking for that machines, just to ride it on a track. So tell me what good is all that wonderful stuff if I have to stay within the speed limit. the cops already hate us, and this machine will tempt us to take even more risks. You know, those exhilarating knee dragging, foot peg dragging corners we love to put ourselves to the test on.
    I just finished a 212 mi. ride out to Borrego Springs and back, east of San Diego. Now there is a test bed that is worth your adrenaline. That will certainly put that machine to the test..... No, no, no not on a track, on an actual road that the rest of us ride on.
    I'm an old fart, cut I still get a thrill out of testing myself on my FJR1300A on those curves !!

    It probably is, but I cant understand why Yamaha did not clad the R1 with the M1 fairings. I mean the headlights are already mounted under the "fairings" and front indicators are in the mirrors. And then placing/mounting the rear light with the indicators and number plate on a long "stick" that is easily removed for trackday/racing would be so nice for us amateurs as that would mean we would not need to buy racing fairings. And yes a "replica" M1 frame would be nice, but to be fair bodywork of the real M1 would be Epic for mortals like us :D

    - Hi, I am here to see the all new R1
    - Do come in. What do you want to know about it first?
    - Does it have a supercharger that breaks the sound barrier?
    - No, it does not.
    - Thanks, bye.
    ( No offence I bet it is great piece of kit, but still a refinement of the old bike not a new one. I want to see what are other manufacturers going to come up to rival H2. That will be some spectacular battle.)

    Getting ridiculous with gizmos and cost.!! On the road you wouldn't notice much difference from a much older model...
    And the older ones look far nicer.
    The only competition i see in manufacturers currently, is who can make the ugliest bike.!!!.

    Fantastic technology, but like I have said in the past, we are basically getting to the point where a computer is operating the bike and not the rider. Riders just beginning their racing career are going to learn on these bikes and will never unless by choice learn how to truly race with just sheer bike. And with all new electronics, at some point in time they will fail, just like any component. And what happens when the brains of the bike fails? Does the rider have to forfeit because he can't ride without it? (I am talking riders that would potentially learn on these bikes, and not already experienced riders just starting on them)

    well the problem is , i dont see anything of proof , i only see video s that you can start the engine , i see a video with the bike on the bench .....hey but waith 1 st there al yamaha video s and 2 team video s that ride yamaha , i asked around for benchmarks , they where rummors of 220 hp ( okey you got to take that not serieus ) but than with the big show with Rossi and Lorenzo Yamaha s big boss talked about 200 hp , now i dont get to see a dyno result , nothing ..... i saw one ... and i realy hope it s a fake one , it was not bad , but let s just say that kawa , BMW , Ducati , aprillia got absolutely nothing to fear .... i think there a bit in trouble , and that s why you get nothing solid to see
