Was really excited for the new R1, just sold my 2014 R6 to buy a liter bike again. Yamaha hit the target on everything for me, but the fairings. The front end looks great, tail looks great, but the bike looks naked on the sides and almost has a FJ1200 look to it. I know the bike will have solid performance, I am struggling with the side view. Its a little expensive also. This will primarily be a track bike, and it looks great in race trim. I guess I need to see one in person. On the fence between the Panigale and the new R1. The maintenance of the Ducati is always a problem for someone like me who beats the bike up pretty good. I NEED TO SEE THIS IN PERSON! Hurry up and Deliver these to the dealerships YAMAHA!
by the why do you have to come to a complete stop to change modes A B C or D or can you just back off the throttle and roll then change mode in A,B and so on.
Although I'm happy for Yamaha in finally stepping up their game I hate to say it but most of the tech on this thing has already been out for years (paningale, Aprilia rsv4 which pioneered the 8 mode tcs system etc and even the bmw s1000rr) I like how they went with a more r6 like angle for the seating position but in all honesty they are really late to show up for what the market has already been offering. There is only 1 Japanese company that has stepped up the game and that is without a doubt Kawasaki. Trellis frame supercharged advanced throttle mapping forget it. I already heard the Europeans are already developing new bikes for their next gens I just feel Yamaha is lagging back in 2012 this would've been amazing stuff but like in the past they are lagging but I still love the brand and product
Keep it on the track. This kid bought a brand new R1. Long story short, he hit a tree on the side of the road. He literally disintegrated. The coroner had red-bio bags and pressure washers tryna get him off the sidewalk and street. These bikes are not built for city streets nor canyon rds. They are meant for the race track!!
any motorcycle can up or downshift without the clutch. a quick shifter has nothing to do with the clutch. it momentarily interrupts the fuel or ignition (depends how its set up) so you dont have to close the throttle between shifts.
this bike look so advanced and 2015 track bike. unfortunately the outlook is horrible. they took out the twin exhaust which was r1 signature for the past decade. sigh.. not getting this bike. and the headlights.. its like a hammerhead shark.. big head, small eyes
all this and they couldn't make a good looking bike....oh cmon....a street rider like myself could do with a lot less gizmos in favour of better looking headlamps & engine casing
Yeah I think this is a must have for me weather it puts down as HP as they are saying or not
The all new redesigned R1 is awesome!

I have one question, can you shut off the clutch completely 24/7 and just use the quick shifter?
