I moved from my home town (Phoenix) to Colorado Springs 4 years ago. I miss the food and the people but I don't miss the weather in Arizona especially not in the summer.
This will be such a big change for both of you. You've researched it well, and I know you are going to be happy with the move. Of course you may experience some homesickness, but that is normal. So excited to see you in your new environment! xoxo
I’ve been watching your channel for years now and you always felt more like a north west chill girl rather than a texas country girl, I think this move is definitely meant to be and I think you both will enjoy it a ton ✨ congratulations on moving!
It’s time for Paul to add ice-cream making to his repertoire, home machines are reasonably priced. Having moved countries a number of times you do miss the food from place to place but it’s been my experience you’ll find another cuisine to fall in love with. My tip would be don’t try to replicate Houston life in Portland, surefire way to get homesick, just go with the flow of Portland life and embrace its differences and its newness to you. What a great adventure!
Exciting new adventure for both of you. Oregon is a beautiful state. A friend posts pictures when they visit family in Oregon and I am blown away by the beauty of the landscape.
Welcome to my city! BTW, I’m moving (but just across the river into Washington) I don’t have a lot of nice things to say about Portland right now as I believe it has changed for the worse over the most recent 20 years, but the landscape, rivers, mountains, desert and Ocean are really wonderful. You will love the rain as long as you remember that it gives the forests, mountains and rivers their magic come the long dry summers. There’s just nothing better than summer in the Pacific Northwest.
How exciting!! Most people would only dream of such a drastic move but never go through with it , You only live once ! Safe journey, i look forward to an update in a future video.
I've watched you for many years before you had 10k subscribers. I always enjoyed watching you and Paul together. It brings me joy. Best of luck on your new adventure!
It was interesting hearing all the things you both will miss, because I’ve used some of those as reasons not to move. Makes me realize that I can go where I want, and not let those things prevent me from exploring other places.
Blue Bell could have been a deal breaker but I’m sure you’ll find something special to fill the gap. Please film Bartender Paul making his margaritas. We need the secret recipe!
In your vlogs you guys go to a lot of Tex-Mex restaurants, I was visiting Portland Oregon, and never found a Mexican restaurant😢. I hope you vlog a good place to eat. Good Luck on the journey to Oregon!
I’ve lived in North Texas (DFW) my whole life and it’s just waaay too hot and CROWDED now. I’ve noticed the change… like why is it not cold on Halloween lol
This was excellent! Poignant to me also as I'm facing a move to another area soon after a entire life in my current area. Wishing you both the very best - you guys are such a great couple!
Yes! Another food place I'll miss! I had a sausage and cheese kolache and a couple of donuts the day before we left. I'm not sure Oregon has ANY kolaches. I've been surprised to learn that most people outside of Texas don't even know what they are.
Good luck with your new adventure! I also hate heat. WI can be so hot in summer. I love seasons except winter, which is gloomy for about 6 months with no sun. I would love to live where it's sunny most of the time. Out traffic is horrid too ,we have alot of reckless driving but I'm I the suburbs so it's not as bad. I hope your move goes well !
You two make me smile. So much fun. Great vlog! Gosh, I'm missing you & it's so silly...you'll be just a click away. Cannot wait to see the scenery!! Never traveled there. What a wonderful adventure ,& life you are beginning.
This was a really interesting video. Apart from anything else, I would loathe the weather. That is what drove me away from Brisbane when I lived there many years ago. Humidity is a deal breaker for me! Thank you for the video!
That's partly because we don't yet know our new bug situation. We're not in Oregon yet (still enjoying our road trip) and I've already seen some new weird ones.
The sad thing is that it’s getting hotter everywhere. Last year in Philly we had no measurable snow and temperatures well above average. Summers here are very hot and humid. Not as hot as Texas, but bad enough. I hope Oregon is refreshing and you will get to experience those seasons!
As a Tennessee girl I totally understand the food bummers, it’s not summer without Bluebell, great margaritas and BBQ! I agree with you 100% on Tillamook 🤢
I didn’t realize you were from Houston😂🤣 I agree was just at the Galleria this weekend while visiting family. Seriously considered relocating to Texas last year we looked for houses. The climate… was so different we dropped the idea. I was warned as a visitor by a resident who said exactly what you said about the open carry. Again, I agree traffic is crazy! Also totally agree about Blue Bell. It is the best. But to have it shipped is so expensive believe me I’ve tried. Good luck on your adventure
Welcome to Oregon! The gorge has a large 😊wildflower area you will love. 💐 You’ll love a visit to central Oregon with the scenic beauty and many things to do.
Welcome to Oregon! We’ve lived in a suburb south of Portland called Tualatin for years! So many great wineries to visit, especially in the Dundee Hills areas! You are in for a treat! Safe travels here.
You are going to love the west coast, Autumn and Paul. Welcome! 🌲🌲🌲 The Mt. Hood Jazz Festival in Gresham still exists, my high school jazz choir performed there many years ago. There's definitely a jazz scene up here.
Can't wait to see all of your OR adventures!! Safe travels while moving! And if you ever need a change of scenery when it comes to wineries, just come down here to CA and check out the Napa and Sonoma Valleys - gorgeous scenery and tons of wineries!
Hi Autumn and Paul….. I am so excited for you both….Autumn I have followed you for years but don’t comment a lot!! You have taught opened my eyes to many things…..Wish you both the best enjoy your next adventure ❤❤
Ice Cream suggestion: Lopez Island Creamery. It’s a Washington company but a few stores in the Portland area carry it. Looks like Zupan’s in Lake Oswego might have it. So good. And I agree, Tillamook isn’t even in the same category.
Blue Bell ice cream 🍦 is now sold in many southern states. You'll need to travel 🚗 to Colorado or Arizona, though, to access the closest store that carries it. 😢
Yay! Welcome to our newest Left Coasters! Take a road trip down to Mendocino/Point Arena/Gualala. Point Arena Theater has some really cool live music and other events. Please ask me if you would like any info from someone who lives here.
I really enjoyed this video. I also envy the thought of moving to a nicer place like Oregon. I’ve been, and is luscious green all over and the Oceanside is beautiful.
Your video prompted me to take an impromptu trip to the Galleria and Pico’s from Austin. The margaritas are good! I totally get why you would leave Houston. I hope you get a chance to drive up to Olympic National Park and Mt. Rainier in WA. Absolutely fabulous.
How fun! I hope you enjoyed it. Pico's margaritas are excellent. Do you remember which one you ordered? I always get the 24 Carat or The Noir. We will definitely be visiting those places in WA in time.
Come to PA, the suburbs of Philly, you have the king of Prussia mall, two hours from the Jersey shore, two hours the other way you have the pocono mtns, lots of beautiful state parks, lots of wineries, farmers markets and lots more , the only draw back is high taxes, but real estate in some areas is affordable. 😊
Good luck to both of you ni grew up in Canada and then lived my dream in Maui toe 10 years. Moved to the Austin area in 2005. I hate the heat but love the people. I am retired now and can’t wait for hubby to retire. Then we can move somewhere North. I love Oregon. Enjoy your new home. ❤️🥰
💖👑👑💖🎬📽🎥l think its amazing that you both are just moveing to a new place. Wishing you both good health and happiness. You both seem lovely people and am sure you will meet so many new people .The best thing of all you have each other XX💖😊💖XX
I am excited for both of you. Although it is apple and oranges. WA and Oregon has one season, and in between 10 days of snow, and 10 days of intense heat in general. The rest is gloom and rain. You will miss the sun.
How can you live without Blue Bell!!!!???? I would perish! LOL I know Paul will miss his friends, but hopefully they will keep in touch. I know that has to be difficult. Ooohhh over 700 winery's, sounds amazing. I wish you and Paul the best with your new adventures and life. Loved this video!!!
Well absolutely going to miss the possibility of having gotten together in real person. I so happy for you and Paul. Good luck on your trip to get there. Prayers while you travel. TFS🛍️🚢🙏👛🦆
Paul, I totally agree with your five things you won’t miss about Texas. If I didn’t know you were talking about Houston, I could swear you were talking about where I live - South Florida. Our “winters” also are 2 days and then it’s back to summer heat and of course humidity. I don’t leave my apartment unless I have to and when I do, I only go out during certain times of the day to avoid sitting in traffic. Florida also has an open carry law now and it’s scary to drive anywhere. I hope you guys love your new adventure and can’t wait to see the videos.
The Pacific Northwest does have excellent Mexican food, I promise. Mexican chefs live all over the US 😊. Actually one of the best Mexican places I have been to in the PNW was in Astoria. I don't recall the name but it was not in the downtown touristy area.
McConell’s ice cream is based in California and it’s really good. They might have some in the Pacific Northwest? I have family/friends near Portland and in recent years there have been some wildfires. You will be closer to Washington and California if you feel like venturing out of state not too far for additional excellent wineries. I know you’ve been to Napa but there are other parts of California with great wineries! Oregon is a beautiful state and I think you and Paul will love it! I know you’ll miss your mom but she can visit and there is FaceTime ❤
Autumn and Paul, this is such a fun video! I am excited for you to explore and photograph your new natural setting. “Nature is the purest portal to inner-peace (Angie Weiland Crosby).”
This is dor Paul and it's in his response to the weather. Here in Colorado our seasons are: winter, winter, road construction and winter! We also don't have to wait a week to experience a weather condition we like....we've had had rain, hail, snow and high 70's within a few hours 😂😂
You will have to try Salt & Straw ice cream in October. Last year they had creepy crawler ice cream with real chocolate covered mealworms and crickets.
Yes, we'll be trying them. I wanted to try them in Lake Oswego when we visited last month but they had a line out the door and we didn't feel like waiting. I should have specified that we're looking for great ice cream we can buy at a grocery store and keep in our freezer so we don't have to go out for it each time.
Just think ... when you go to stores like Louis Vuitton in Portland, there will be no sales tax !!! I have family on the coast, from Tillamook up to Astoria. I'm excited to see what wonderful things come from your move. Congratulations to you and Paul.
What I would miss if I left Houston: the people, the food, the shopping, the great medical facilities, excellent airports. I don’t trust TexMex food outside of Texas. Since I lived in the northeast for many years, I like the hot and humid.
I’m a MS girl and everyone loves Bluebell!!!! And you’re right, it’s expensive. My mama is my very best friend, so I can relate to that too. I’m glad to see you’ve discovered PLG, I found them around 2 years ago. But, I also love my LV too! I feel like you and I could be great friends!!! Can’t wait to see/hear about Portland. Between my love for PLG, the tv show Grimm and Little People Big World, I’m fascinated with Portland. 😊
Is Little People Big World in Portland? I think I've seen a few episodes of that but don't remember for sure which show about little people it is. The one with the husband and wife who owned a pet shop, that was in Houston. Their store was a block from my last apartment.
@@AutumnBeckman yep! You should def vlog this fall during pumpkin season and take us with you to Roloff Farms. Also, I’d love to see the PLG retail store. The street it’s on looks so cute and charming, I bet it’s really pretty during fall.
Oops! Then I watched the rest of the comment 😂 maybe try Umqua? In Portland the Salt & Straw places have amazing homemade ice cream. But then again, I DO like Tillamook 😂
Leaving everyone you know is definitely a rough one. Hard to start over with making new friends. If you learn how to do that, I will be curious to hear your tips.
IF you only knew… there is no replacement for Texas BBQ… I am now in NC and yuck… vinegar bbq… the weather here is much better than Texas … but I did not like Portland due to rain, rain, rain… too dreary there for me! But enjoy!
Looking forward to seeing your new adventures. Paul, leaving my friends was the hardest part for me when we made a major move last year. On the flip side, this will be an exciting time-enjoy!
I enjoy Cold Stone Creamery ice cream, and Baskin Robbins on occasion (not as good tho) both are in Portland. As far a grocery store ice cream goes, I'm a fiend for Ben & Jerry's Phish food, yummers! I'm a chocoholic so it fills that craving big time. Off topic, if you've never tried Sees Candy that's my favorite candy store. The Scotchmellow is my fave, but the dark chocolate chocolate butter cream, and the dark chocolate molasses chips are pretty darn good too. I think I remember u saying ur not a chocolate kinda gal tho, so they may not do for u what they do for me. If Paul is a chocolate lover he may benefit from those options. Back to ice cream, I also enjoy Haagen-Dazs Dulce de Leche. It's a sweet cream ice cream with caramel swirl. Yummers on that one too! Safe travels! 💋 💋 💋
I should have clarified that we were talking specifically about ice creams we can buy at the grocery store. Ben & Jerry's is good, yes. That might become our new go-to. See's is wonderful!
Autumn: number 2! Margeritas! Paul: as he's finishing talking about missing your mum. It just made me laugh. (I know you will, and I'm sure she'll visit you both)
You need to move to Portugal you’d love it castles palaces beach countryside best wine you could get gastronomy all at your finger tips always new thing to see even if its 1 2 hours away you’re always in a completely different place with new gastronomy wines monuments amazing weather to and free healthcare if you like photography you both would loose your mind great light always new things to visit and photograph. I think you guys are wonderful wishing you the best. I think you both are european and don’t know 😅❤
I moved from my home town (Phoenix) to Colorado Springs 4 years ago. I miss the food and the people but I don't miss the weather in Arizona especially not in the summer.
I feel like you wanted to say you won’t miss the politics of Texas . But kept it professional. ❤
This will be such a big change for both of you. You've researched it well, and I know you are going to be happy with the move. Of course you may experience some homesickness, but that is normal. So excited to see you in your new environment! xoxo

My husband has a huge KitchenAid mixer to which he added an ice cream maker attachment. The ice creams he makes are terrific.

Houston and Memphis sound a lot alike. We can’t wait to retire OUT of here! I’m so excited for you both.

Best of luck on the move! As a former Texan the Mexican food and margaritas are by far what I miss the most!
I have never been able to find decent Mexican food up north!
You will love Oregon! Pioneer Place downtown for up scale shopping. Sak’s Fifth Avenue across the street. Easy access on Max if you choose.

I left Texas long ago cuz of the heat. Went to Virginia for my BA and Masters it was a hugh leap but loved the weather. Best of Luck to your both.
I agree, Blue Bell is the absolute best ice cream option hands down! Best wishes for a wonderful move!!

Blue Bell is the best! It's over 9.00 here.
I saw it over $9 in Houston, too! Crazy!
Loved this! Have a safe drive up to Oregon.
I live in Texas for one year ice cream had never been the same since Bluebell. I tell anyone visiting Tx try Shipleys and Bluebell

Crater lake is also a beautiful place to visit in Oregon.
Houston traffic is no joke. Its the only place I've ever seen someone backup in the middle of a highway. I-45 at 2pm weekday and I was terrified
So agree
❤. I really enjoyed NASA and the Houston Galleria. Hope you are settling into your new space nicely.

It's in some southern states but definitely not in Oregon, unfortunately.

FYI Bluebell is for sale outside of Texas. Its in the big grocery store chains.
Only in some states and cities nearish Texas, though. I've seen it in New Mexico and Colorado but definitely not in Oregon.
@@AutumnBeckman I’m in Indiana and have bought it in California. It use to be harder to get but that changed a few years ago.

Hopefully your Mom will hop on a plane to visit. My daughter and her kids were in Seattle for years. I flew out to see them at least twice a year.

Oops! Then I watched the rest of the comment 😂 maybe try Umqua? In Portland the Salt & Straw places have amazing homemade ice cream. But then again, I DO like Tillamook 😂
😂 I saw Umpqua in a store yesterday (we're not in Oregon yet). We'll give it a try once we get to our new place. Thank you for the suggestions.
good evening autumn and paul🌈🌞🦋💖🦋
We have BlueBell ice cream in our grocery store here in Indiana. 🙂
Maybe someday it will make it to Oregon. Fingers crossed.
Leaving everyone you know is definitely a rough one. Hard to start over with making new friends. If you learn how to do that, I will be curious to hear your tips.
Aww...there are lots of good things! But there are lots of bad things, too, that can outweigh them.
Blue Bell Banana Pudding! Safe travels 😊
I think you'll love greater Portland OR - there is so much beauty in Oregon and southwest Washington state. You'll do great :)
Aww. Best wishes. :)
I hope your mom is able to travel and can come for visits that makes me sad for you
Autumn: number 2! Margeritas! Paul: as he's finishing talking about missing your mum. It just made me laugh.
(I know you will, and I'm sure she'll visit you both)
The road rage is no joke here, and the states huge, I can drive to Mexico easier than to another state
As a htown native we see them come and we see them go . A wise man once said (public enemy ) don’t believe the hype !

Moving to another country wouldn't be practical for us but we would LOVE to visit Portugal!
