It’s so refreshing to hear pets needs being taken into consideration when re-locating , looking forward to being part of your journey guys. Stay safe X
They've loved it here so far, except Vincent because her big house suffered some damage in the move so she's still in her travel cage until I get it sorted out. Roxie LOVES the yard and all the things she can bark at. Baron is chill as long as he knows where I am.
I’ve lived here all my life. It is not nearly as rainy as people think. Oregon has 4 seasons and the weather changes a lot. Summer and early Fall are about as good as anyplace.
This was so fun. I feel like I’m moving with you. Winery vlogs would be fun. I moved out of state for the first time in 50 years 2 years ago and I still use Google maps all the time. What would I do without it?! 🤣 Best wishes to you guys. TFS xoxo 🤗
Oh winery vlogs will be wonderful but I am so interested in seeing what your new life will be like. I am not sure I would like the rain so much personally but I totally get why this is something important for you. I’m so excited for you both.
Welcome to Oregon and the great PNW from a fellow transplant... the law just changed a few days ago and all gas stations are now 50/50 self serve/full service (no tip). A restaurant to add your list is Screen Door, not quite cajun but great southern comfort food that I think you two would appreciate and Alloro Winery is one of my favorites.
Thanks for reminding me of the blessings for which I should be grateful. Having grown up here and seeing the negative recent changes make it easy to overlook how amazing we have it. One thing you might not know is that everyone dresses down. When I say down, I mean sloppy-slob down. I never bring out my good stuff unless I’m going to a Casino in Washington or a dinner party or date somewhere. We frequent Palm Springs and keep our good clothes there, lol. The rest of the time you’ll find everyone in Levi’s and t-shirts, sweatshirts and flannels. (pajamas and slippers are common in Public too.)
Lol…you don’t need to tip the gas attendant. I live in NJ. You will appreciate the full service when it’s rainy and cold. Enjoy your new life in Oregon!
Hi, Autumn and Paul. I think the best part about not having to pump your own gasoline is that you don't need wipes to take away the smell of gas. But, no, you don't have to tip them.
To hear your enthusiasm to live in a different state makes me feel happy for both of you and I wish you a very happy chapter in your life’s new journey ✨
Glacier National Park (MT) is a MUST SEE if you haven't. 10 hour drive from the Portland area. It's beautiful. Visit it while you're spry - due to the gorgeous hiking trails. Ditto Yellowstone National Park - off season. I believe you're able to pump your own gas now and no you don't tip the attendant.
Wow, I’ve never lived in a state with no sales tax🤯 although I did appreciate no state income tax in Florida. There’s good and bad about every state/area, what’s important is the attitude and outlook you bring with you. You both sound like you’ll be fine 😊
You might find that your closet size is fine. While some people dress up regularly, as a whole people here are casual. I usually try to make sure my sweatpants match my hoodie, but if not, I shrug it off and get on with my day. The winter doldrums often hit me in March. Invest in a few plant grow lights and put them on timers that turn on before you get up in the morning. Then go outside and look at how fresh and green the rain makes the world.
I LOVE the weather in the PNW! The misty gloomy mornings with my coffee are the best! I also love bundling up…the comfy warm clothes are a while vibe. Can’t wait to see all your adventures! Also, one day you need to head to,the Vancouver waterfront! Better than Portland!😉
I’m with you Autumn, I love grilled fish, simple and plain with maybe a squirt of lemon. Very difficult to get. Don’t come to Illinois-we have sakes tax and state income tax and our license fees are 😫. We do sometimes get snow, though, not often in the section where I live.
Hoping you get to go to Willamette Valley Vineyards. They are in our backyard basically and have beautiful views, food and wine! A MUST see in the fall! Also members gets amazing deals.
The wine country is so beautiful in OR. We stayed at The Vintages Trailer Resort…and it was just fantastic. So happy for you all, and looking forward to seeing your adventures ❤
You know what……you need to do what you want, if in a few years you find you don’t like it, well nothing is forever and you can move again! Sounds like fun to me. I agree regarding the weather, I love the rain. I’m sure you have scoped out Portland, the reviews are interesting. Best wishes on this new adventure!!
I moved to a place that charges me a municiple tax in addition to my state and federal tax. I honestly dont worry about the state tax. I break even or get a little bit back every year. Enjoy the new scenery!
I was going to comment that. It ended today actually so no longer required to have all pumps manned by gas attendants. But, if you use one please tip them.
It’s not customary to tip your gas attendant but I always try when they also wash my windows. I have always found getting has a relaxing treat. Just. Few moments where I just get to sit and rest. My car and myself get filled up. ❤
I'm so excited for you and Paul! My son and his girlfriend live in Portland and I've watched you for so long that it feels like you're family even though I've never met you! I can't wait to see what's coming up in the future for both of you! Wineries, nature, photography, yes yes yes!
Ughh! You guys are making me miss the Pacific Northwest! I’m from up there, and recently moved to central Texas. It’s been a hard transition for sure. Both of you will LOVE all the natural beauty and changing seasons. Best part…getting away from the extreme Texas heat!!🥵 Wish you all the best, because it is the best (in the pnw)❤
When my son moved from Miami to NY, his Vitamin D levels plummeted. Keep an eye on that if you start to feel like you are developing seasonal affective disorder. He supplements in the fall/winter and does fine now. My friends moved from Oklahoma City to Oregon and they just love it. They’ve been there about 20 years now. It’s all in our attitude. I hope a future video includes hiking with Vincent! 👍 I’m curious if you will do a video on the bags that you parted with, the bags you moved with you and how you made those decisions. Thanks for sharing all about your move.
Thanks you. I've heard about the Vitamin D. That's probably something I should do year round. Vincent will be hiking with us, for sure! I'm not doing a video on bags I let go because those were covered in the last vlog sale but I do have a full collection video coming up of what came with me.
Autumn, I pay state taxes in PA, and I usually owe at the end of the year, but very little, like around $60 - $100. We pay state, city wage, and sales tax. We also pay a beverage tax in the city for sodas and other drinks which might have sugar (even diet drinks). I think that not having sales tax makes up for the state tax. You won’t be likely to feel it.
We moved to WA from Tx. I’m from Wa, husband from Texas. The cost of living is much higher here. The gas is more expensive, the food and restaurants more expensive. But the grocery stores are much better, and have more and fresher food, at least in comparison to the small town I lived in TX to the small town in WA. It cracks me up Paul thinks Portland drivers are nice, as up here in WA we yell “ you damn OR driver!” daily hahah. People to tend to drive fast on I5 , but they don’t tend to be very aggressive generally.
That's so interesting. We've found cost of living to be less than we were spending in Houston. Gas is about a dollar more per gallon. Grocery prices are the same. Restaurant prices are about the same, sometimes more depending on the restaurant. We've found the wineries to be quite a bit more expensive. Since we've been here we've run into several rude drivers. :(
@@AutumnBeckman you will notice a HUGE energy savings. I live in the woods and never use air conditioning. Don’t need it. And heat os also cheaper. My bills in TX where hundreds always. Now can be as low as 60$ in the summer.
Weather up here in summer is BEAUTIFUL! I remember looking at USA Today when I was in Michigan wishing I could be in this part of the country because it was the only location that wasn't red hot. Now I'm here and love it. Weather is a great reason to move. And the rain is usually a light rain. No angry weather. It's pretty hilarious getting Weather Channel app alerts about "light rain coming" - LOLOLOL🤣🤣🤣🤣 - versus tornado warnings and thunderstorms with damaging hail and wind.

Thank you once again to you both for putting the vlogs out when its a busy time for you both .Love how you both are so looking forward to your move 😊
I'm excited for you guys... I've lived in the Seattle area most of my life and now live in Bellingham (just a south of the Canadian border). There are many similarities between Oregon and Washington state, both extremely beautiful with lots of outdoor activities. You will probably see many more bikes than BBQ places in Portland. One thing that you didn't mention, that might interest you Autumn is the Northwest weather is very good for your skin. Portland residents are big gardeners, the weather is very good for growing almost anything. I absolutely love the cloudy, rainy, foggy weather, so Houston sounds like hell to me. Good luck on your move.
You're the second to mention that the weather is good for skin. I didn't know about that. Good news. Houston weather is indeed hell. Thanks for the well wishes!
This is so interesting! We pay all of the tax, income, sales and anything you can think of tax 🤣 but we do have ‘free’ healthcare and great infrastructure generally. Can’t wait to see life in Oregon with you guys!
I've heard that Portland has excellent vegan restaurants. I recommend checking those out too! You guys have literally embarked on an adventure! That's so cool! Looking forward to restaurant, wine-tasting, jazz music, hiking, and new gallery photos as you introduce many of us to Oregon via your vlogs.
I don't think Paul has ever been to a vegan restaurant. I have. Veganism gets a bad stereotype but there's wonderful food that has nothing to do with animals.
We'll have to check it out! We went to Las Colimas the other day. Good margaritas but the food...not so much. The sauces really killed the dishes. They tasted like they were from a can.
I’m in California on the coast & grilled fish is everywhere so I bet you’ll find it in Oregon! 👍🏼 There are many jazz festivals on the West Coast so maybe sign up for some of the jazz newsletters? My favorite jazz trumpeter Chris Botti is from Portland Oregon.
I hope I find grilled fish. Paul is most interested in jazz guitar, which we neglected to mention. We're in the throes of unpacking right now. Hopefully we'll be able to take a break soon for a little exploration and adventure.
Yes. You just missed the big four day jazz festival on 4th of July weekend. Paul will love it next year. It's held at the waterfront park and the weather is always beautiful.
When I travel to the Oregon coast I tipped the gas attendant but when I asked several Oregon locals they said they never do and was not to be expected? Probably true as each time I did tip they seemed very surprised and grateful. We are planning a trip to the Oregon coast In October with a quick stop at Louis Vuitton in Portland to pick up a new bag with no sales tax .We then head to Cannon Beach with a lunch stop at camp 18.We usually spend a couple nights in Cannon Beach then to Pacific city (inn at Cape Kiwanda) then to Yachats and then to Bandon (Face Rock).By the way Face Rock at Bandon good photo opportunities. From Bandon to my state California and some of their coastline. Can’t wait to your adventures in OREGON
Becky (Acre Homestead here on RUclips) says that in a recent summer (I forget which year) she had, I think, 95 dry days in a row in summer. That will mean 95 opportunities to carry the delicate bags! Not to mention the dry days through the rest of the year! I feel sure that the new career is out there, waiting for you! It will be amazing! Here in Australia the states used to charge their own income tax until 1932 and then the federal government took over in very dramatic circumstances! So we don't have 'tax refuge' states here, but on the plus side, everyone pays the same levels, only a smart accountant can get us out of the payments! Thank you for the video! PS: Hopefully they will be able to deduct your income tax from the source when your new employer pays you. It makes it easier!
No its not customary, I'd say less than 1% of people in Oregon tip the gas station attendant. I have personally tipped at the gas station in Oregon a few times in my life. Usually after the attendant washes my windshield or does something else beyond whats required of him or her. Hope this bit of info helps. Good luck with the move.
I've had to pay both income tax and sales tax my entire life living in 3 different states in New England (CT, MA, RI). It sucks having to pay both but it's a trade off to not living in other parts of the country that don't appeal to me (I have a huge appreciation for New England anytime I visit other states). You might be ok with the income tax if you do as you mentioned, getting a higher paying job to offset that cost. Plus, if you love it there, it will be worth putting up with. Very happy for you both and this new adventure!
1. The income tax isn’t anything to fear, it’s a chunk of $$ for sure but it’s not going to put you in the poor house. I’ve lived in both and it really does balance out. 2. The weather, while it gets more cloudy/rainy days in Or. it’s a milder climate. I loved the weather in Or. 3. Overall I’d choose Or. over Tx for the following: *Political climate *Weather *more to do outdoors *Scenery *food scene
Astoria is very close to Portland and has wonderful seafood places. Southern BBQ and Cajun is harder to find here. There is a wonderful Cajun place on the main drag in McMinnville.
We drove through Astoria in November. Definitely want to go back. We had jambalaya at Oswego Grill yesterday. It wasn't real jambalaya. :( We do want to check out McMinnville, especially the waterpark when my sister brings her kids, so we'll have to hit up that Cajun place.
Portland Grilled Fish: 🐟 King Tide Fish & Shell 🐟 Takahashi 🐟 New Seasons Market 🐟 Chez José West 🐟 Los Gorditos 🐟 Leaky Roof 🐟 Urban Farmer 🐟 Phở Văn 🐟 The Deck 🐟 Tarad Thai Market & Rest. 🐟 Island Café 🐟 Pho Van Fresh
The gas issue will be changing soon. The legislature has passed a law that you will be able to pump your own gas. The gas stations have to provide a person to pump if that’s what you choose. No, you do not tip the gas attendant.
It all works out the same. What you don’t pay here, you pay there. Our good ole government makes sure the taxpayers pay. We moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania you get more house for your money, and no tax for clothing. They charge a huge school tax per year even if you do not have a child going to school, PA you pay more for gas, have to pay trash pick up and Maryland it is included. It breaks even. I hope you guys are happy with your decision.
Too many things to go over since TX and OR have absolutely nothing in common. Not as rainy as people think but I do love drizzly days. Everything I own has a hood 😂. Drivers drive below the speed limit. They are so polite that at a 4-way stop, no one wants to go first! Streets are not a grid. I have driven in every state on the western half of the US and Portland is by far the worst. Roads not marked, terrible lighting, u-turns are illegal. You can't just "go around the block". You will ALWAYS miss streets, that's normal. Beautiful photography everywhere. Many beautiful bridges. The Tillicum bridge lights actually change color according to the water temperature of the river. The rain always makes the air smell fresh and clean. My dog goes everywhere with us. The water is fabulous ; drink right out of the faucet. There are also springs to fill up water jugs. Must go to Hood River and out the gorge. Don't know any bbq or Mexican food. Not that popular. (And don't tip gas station attendants)
Wow! I've lived in a state with no sales tax, but I didn't realize there were states where you can't pump your own gasoline. It's going to be so much fun to see you two in Oregon. I'm sure you will have many interesting adventures! xoxo
Hi Jill! You can’t pump your own gas in New Jersey! That’s one of the reasons many people in Philly will pay a bridge toll and go to New Jersey for gas, to pay cheaper gas prices and have it pumped for you!
U GUYS SEEM HAVE A GREAT CONNECTION CONSIDERING THERE APPEARS TO A BIG AGE DIFFERENCE.. I THINK ITS PRETTY COOL.. IM 65, AND IM THINKING PAUL IS AROUND MY AGE, MAYBE OLDER .. YOU ARE SUCH A LOVELY DOWN TO EARTH COUPLE.. AND IM A BIG FAN OF GREAT WINE, GRILLED FISH AND BBQ .. CAN WAIT TO SEE YOUR ADVENTURES IN OREGON.. ITS BEATIFUL THERE
Congratulations to the both of you🎉🎉🎉🎉 ***If I ever moved from Houston I would either live in Denver, Colorado or Scottsdale, Arizona. Can't wait to see future Vlogs❤️
I went to the Indian Hot Springs in Idaho Springs when I was up there last summer. Loved it. The rooms aren't the best but there were lots of options for water experiences and the downtown area was surprisingly nice.
So we’re either passing or just passed (within a week) a law allowing you to pump your own gas, but also no you don’t have to tip them. I don’t think I ever have 😂
We considered Seattle and visited in November but I found housing more expensive than the Portland area and it's farther from the dramatic coastlines that we love in Oregon.
Unfortunately the Oregon income tax is high. I’d rather have a sales tax. Occasionally a sales tax has been on the ballot and so far voted down because they still want to have an income tax too. The Oregon legislature passed a bill for pump your own gas!!! I don’t know when it starts. It’s not perfect here but it is beautiful and usually nice people.
LOL I've lived in CA all my life, so all the tax stuff and not pumping your own gas is such a foreign concept to me! But I get to live in a state that aligns with my political views, gives me access to beaches and mountains and snow and desert anytime I want (and within a few hours drive!), so I'll take the tradeoffs any day. ☺ Can't wait to see your first video from the new place!!! And so happy for both of you on this move that you can clearly see is very exciting for you! (It always amuses me when people get all bent out of shape about their friends or family wanting to move to another state that they view as "inferior" or "worse" in some way. LOL You don't have to move there, why does it bother you so much?!)
Dave Gilmore is our great neighbor and also a very gifted photographer. He is online. We live in Sherwood, close to Tigard, and then Portland. I’m from Montana and people here are just as nice. Welcome to Oregon, Paul and Amber! You’ll love it here! I’ll bake sticky buns and cookies and sourdough goods, and I’m happy to share!

NJ born and raised. I’ve never pumped gas and proud of it!😊
Your skin will feel a positive difference near Portland.
So true! I live in Central Oregon where it’s very high and dry and I love going to Portland and the valley to reap the benefits for my skin!
My son lived in Portland for 3 years and learned that they have a very casual attitude about the weather. No one bothers to use an umbrella! 😂

A sunrise simulator lamp for the long dark winters is indispensable in the PNW 😉👍
These days I need a sunset simulator. That thing doesn't go down until about 9:30!
It's also very dark, day after day. I have a strong dislike for that weather but it sounds like you'll like it.
I'm going to love it. We're having beautiful summer days right now but I can't wait for the rain and cold.
This is so interesting! We pay all of the tax, income, sales and anything you can think of tax 🤣 but we do have ‘free’ healthcare and great infrastructure generally.
Can’t wait to see life in Oregon with you guys!
Kansas City, MO has City Earnings Tax, Sales Tax, and we have Missouri State Taxes... :( We must be one of the biggest taxed states in the US.
My bffs brother owns a Mexican restaurant in SE Portland called Los Punales and it’s amazing!
We'll have to check it out! We went to Las Colimas the other day. Good margaritas but the food...not so much. The sauces really killed the dishes. They tasted like they were from a can.
I’m in California on the coast & grilled fish is everywhere so I bet you’ll find it in Oregon! 👍🏼
There are many jazz festivals on the West Coast so maybe sign up for some of the jazz newsletters?
I live in Oregon, and I have never pumped my own gas. Ever. I am 44. 😂 Welcome to our beautiful state.
That's mind blowing! I've never NOT pumped my own gas. :)
Thank you. :)
3. Overall I’d choose Or. over Tx for the following:
*Political climate
*Weather
*more to do outdoors
*Scenery
*food scene
The food scene is amazing in Houston and Austin. Maybe that's not well known outside those places. I agree on all other points. :)
Also, it sounds like you have found a lovely place/area to live!!
:( We do want to check out McMinnville, especially the waterpark when my sister brings her kids, so we'll have to hit up that Cajun place.
as someone who has lived in texas i would never ask why you were moving😂❤ houston is alot more fun than dallas the one time i went❤

The gas issue will be changing soon. The legislature has passed a law that you will be able to pump your own gas. The gas stations have to provide a person to pump if that’s what you choose. No, you do not tip the gas attendant.
I love ❤️ Paul playing a part in your videos 📹
🤔 Does Paul collect anything?
Other than incredible women? Not that I can think of. But he's only found one of those so far. 🤣
I am happy for you I just got the Andy bag from Coach

2 days ago Oregon starting pumping your own gas. First time in 70 years 😢
I just moved to Portland last weekend! Cheers :)
Best of luck you two !! ❤
ITS BEATIFUL THERE
Congratulations to the both of you🎉🎉🎉🎉
***If I ever moved from Houston I would either live in Denver, Colorado or Scottsdale, Arizona. Can't wait to see future Vlogs❤️
Colorado is beautiful. I was in Denver last summer.
@@AutumnBeckman Colorado is so beautiful, and I love the Hot Springs.
I went to the Indian Hot Springs in Idaho Springs when I was up there last summer. Loved it. The rooms aren't the best but there were lots of options for water experiences and the downtown area was surprisingly nice.
Best of luck to you both ❤😊!
Thank you. :)
@@AutumnBeckman your welcome
You're really making me want to move to the northwest! Florida is killing my soul.
Understandably.
As of yesterday you can now pump your own gas in Oregon. Just went into effect.
So we’re either passing or just passed (within a week) a law allowing you to pump your own gas, but also no you don’t have to tip them. I don’t think I ever have 😂
Curious why you didn't choose washington state (seattle area). Just couple hours from oregon and no state income tax
We considered Seattle and visited in November but I found housing more expensive than the Portland area and it's farther from the dramatic coastlines that we love in Oregon.
Our Oregon beaches are also open to the public, the whole length of the state.
Can't wait to see your first video from the new place!!! And so happy for both of you on this move that you can clearly see is very exciting for you!
(It always amuses me when people get all bent out of shape about their friends or family wanting to move to another state that they view as "inferior" or "worse" in some way. LOL You don't have to move there, why does it bother you so much?!)
Oh and i miss the days the guys would pump my gas back home!
Yes Paul…you’ll be cooking every night. The queen has spoken! 😅😅
We bought a grill today! It should be delivered in 2 weeks. The countdown is on.
❤❤❤
TFS 👛🙏🛍️🚢
Portland is not as “wet” as the Seattle area.
I meant AUTUMN
A new law allows u to pump gas.
It's the civility of the people in general of the N.W. and really most of the North that does not exist in Texas.
I have to counter...that civility absolutely does exist in Texas and the South.
❤❤❤
