I've been used to call CC1 "Dynamics", instead of Volume & Expression. Hard to tell with some libraries if it's just expression, or volume included. Some other libraries only record 1 dynamic layer and simply put a filter on the expression function, to give the illusion of an actually changing sound, not just chaning volume when playing with the mod wheel. Thanks for the video, Chris.
4:00 the expression has a EQ change, in most samples. Volume does not change it. But Midi Volume can change timbre as well, because it affects velocity or can be programed to change it, but this is just a guess.
Hello. First of all, that's a really nice video. I am wondering why any recording software couldn't detect the sustain pedal of my MIDI keyboard. What do you think could be the problem? How do you think can I fix this? Please help. Thank you so much.
Neova MIDI Ring Controller…please.. how would you map this…?.. I just got one and have been trying to use it for strings….it really good..but I am struggling on what cc’s to use..great vid..thanks just subscribe d
Hi Chris! I really needed to manage my orchestral automations so yesterday I bought a Novation MIDI controller (Launch Control XL MK2) because the Roland keyboard I use, however beautiful, has neither fader nor modulation wheel. My problem now is that not being really practical I can't figure out how to assign MIDI CCs to my controller's faders (modulation, breath, expression). I use cubase ... could you possibly help me? I have not found any video on youtube that explained the assignment of the cc as about the orchestral dynamics ... Maybe I ask too much, but in case thanks anyway😄
Dear Sir , may I ask Your opinion concerning midi cc 101 100 and cc 99 98 Are they useful ? because i see reactions coming from single midi cc6 data entry and also other singular midi cc xx, without any application of the abovementioned nrpn rpn midi cc nuumbers
Thanks Christopher! one question, if i have an 8 fader controller, and one pugin has certain CCs programmed from the fader to a plugin, will this control another plugin with the same CC attached or would i have to use a different CC? OR would the cc only activate while the track is record enabled? thanks :)
Hi Tommy, great question, and actually one I'm not too sure about! My MIDI controller is simply a keyboard, and I really only use the modwheel to control volume and expression. And of course the sustain pedal at times as well.
@@ChristopherSiu Maybe for some, BUT I'm not a pianist, and probably wouldn't watch it. Maybe more stuff like "How to create interesting Melodies", "How to create melodies from Chord Progressions", "How to create String Ostinatos, sustains, legato, etc", techniques for making staccato, marcato, etc lines, "How your CC Lanes should look like on the types of instrumentation"....stuff like that. Thanks for the reply!
"I'm not the most technical person...I just want to make music" AHH I FINALLY FOUND THE CHANNEL I NEED 😆😆
Liked immediately just because it took me 10 minutes just to find any mention of what "CC" even is on the internet lmao.
XD

Very useful... however would be good to actually hear some examples
Thanks Martin! Yes, I show examples in my 'Inside the Score' series (orchestration vids).
@@ChristopherSiu Good to know - thank you!
I can’t play a keyboard worth crap so I have to hand draw my CC Lanes....it sucks, but I can be more detailed as well.
Would a video on keyboard playing for composers help?
