@@TheBenzwanger They came down hard across the nation on opioids.
Yes, the manufacturer lied about how addictive it was.
The majority of O.D.'s, during the "opioid-crisis", were due to heroin, fetanyl, or other synthetic opiates, not just rx opiates.
So many people that were living with chronic pain were tapered down or cut off cold turkey over night after the CDC published their guidelines. Many of them ended up taking a forever nap due to the pain. The CDC published "guidelines" for rx'ing opiates, but if you deviated from them your license & livelyhood was at stake. Doctors didn't want any unnecessary attention or to take the risk. That's why a lot of legit chronic pain patients are suffering or worse nowadays.
I wish the was a middle ground also. Even some type of test to validate your pain to the doctor. Very frustrating...

He thought I was just trying to get painkillers until I told him I didn't want any pain medicine if it wasn't absolutely 100% necessary. His tune changed even more after I showed him where the pain was. Turned out I had a _major_ kidney problem that needed immediate treatment.

personally i've somehow gotten myself through a lot of tests in spite of a doctor who was uncooperative to say the least. stuff on the list that it can possibly be have shrunk from 20-30 somewhere down to only 3. Can also be all three, but in general it's between fibromyalgia, ME/CFS and MS that's left. (i really don't want it to be that last one) For some reason that doctor just stopped doing stuff, and instead started calling me fat. Went to a specialist, said there's really no doubt that i got a chronic illness of that nature. Trouble is really the medical system over here, you need your regular doctor to put down your diagnostics, and the specialist don't got the authority to. It's aggravating to say the least, because i can't even work half a job with this. I more or less worked until i couldn't anymore. I'm telling you, it's boring. Very boring, but i have to even be careful about walking too far or do too many house chores. Makes me dirt poor too, not that that was any different with temporary position after temporary position.

From somebody who has had all his teeth taken out in separate visits and had dentures put in you really don't need that high amount of narcotics for oral surgery. I spent 10 years throwing my life and everything I loved in it straight down the shitter when I started taking percs daily.. then hourly then literally as many as I could possibly suck up my nose every day for the better half of 7-8 years. But despite being the most self destructive person I've ever known I somehow managed at around 30ish y/o to get my life back on track. I give ALL the credit goes to my girlfriend/wife of the past 18 years and the two wonderful children she has given me. NEVER woulda made it without her. Now as a 36 y/o recovering junkie I say this. Nothing is more physically and mentally addictive than opiates of all types. However alcohol is right up there close to the top of that list as well. I'd say definitely the top 5. And like you said.. it's as legal as drinking a bottle of water.. you know just as long as your the magical 21.

I guess the benefit of being an alcoholic is that I can tell my doctor I'm going through withdrawal and am scared of seizures and I'll get some Xanax for my anxiety. Mind you I am not a pill popper so I don't really use them but they are amazing to have in case of anxiety or WD's.

I don't know how people get the good drugs. The only time I've ever been on any opioid was after surgery, and I was in the middle of a full-on nervous breakdown and STILL never got any benzos.

I was working at a Sheetrock company many moons ago, while carrying a 8ft 3/4 green board up 5 flights of stairs i tweaked my back. Damn legs gave out it hurt so bad.
My foreman took me to the local pull up ER, rive mins in and the doctor gave me a prescription for what seemed to be a 5gal bucket of Vicodin and a note for 2 weeks off.
That shit just about got me. I realized what I was happening before it got me wrapped up and i threw that shit in the garbage disposal. Now all i take is ibuprofen.
