I used to deliver furniture for a pretty big company a few years back. Most of us were full time employees, but there were a few contractors who would load up in the same DC with the rest of us. They were there every week just like us, and all around pretty good guys. When we had our Christmas party they took and fed us a big spread of bbq and sides with desert and honestly it was pretty good. But not the contractors. They had to leave the warehouse and got the door locked behind them. Always thought that was messed up.
They had a driver appreciation week where the sales team fed us and thanked us for being the backbone of the company and all that bullshit. I even got an email from one of those sales people to personally thank me for all that I did, which I thought was pretty nice. Right up until I got the exact same, word for word, email from a different sales person later that week. Feels good to be appreciated lol.

Contractors are always treated as sub-humans by corporations and it makes absolutely no sense. They don't have to deal with employing someone and managing all the problems that go along with it. They only have to deal with one expense line item and it's usually completed on time.

@markm0000 yup. Whats even worse is when companies push that label in you so that they can pay you crap and not do taxes. Last I checked contractors dictate their pay

This reminds me of my job.. front office administrative staff has a bbq.. we're doing all the work.. we get nothing. One of the forklift drivers pulled up because he had to bring something up front and they literally offered him the left over scraps if he wanted them like a dog.

Worked in one shop where the office would have pot luck parties and pies and other goods. They would leave us scraps also. The shop day shift would get pizza all of the time. By the time swing shift (my shift started) They would leave empty boxes around. One day I snapped and in front of management. I yelled. “ Throw the shit away or save some for us” for 8 years. Swing shift would have food waiting for us…

I work in maintenance and admin would regularly have things like that, HQ would regularly have meetings and events, let catered food sit out for hours, then hand it to the guys busting their asses after someone thought to do something with it.
It usually got ate too because everyone was starving making minimum wage and regularly eating far less than the thousands of calories burned at work.
I'm certain not one of us hasn't gotten food poisoning. And no one wants to say anything because getting scraps is basically one of the few perks we enjoy.
Idk it's ceremony and pomp for everyone except the people who keep the lights on.
I swear looking good is the only job of higher ups. The people that send their emails, tbf, also work hard and also are expected to look good. And they don't even get to crowd around a broken picnic table and shovel questionable food into their mouths during a short break like a pack of hyenas.

Instead they booked a hotel on the ouuutskirts of the city to give us a presentation whining about how everyone is quitting to go to the competitor who pays more and that's not fair.
      ...
Then we got a meal at a golf course. The next time they scrapped the hotel, whined about everyone quitting in our training room, and we got dinner out in a nice restaurant downtown, where our HR director got drunk and kept asking us about how people get marijuana cards in California, which was the most obvious trap I've ever actually seen first hand.
The year I left they ordered Dominoes and sodas that we ate in the training room, and they said we could take the extra sodas home. I went to work for the company they had been whining about stealing all of our employees all those years.

If they are paying you to be there, I think they can make it mandatory and it counts as an absence if you skip it. So watch out for that. If they aint paying you, they cant do diddly if you skip it. As a bus driver I have to go to safety meetings after morning routes 4x a year. Its like an hour and a half of hearing the same speeches over and over but its mandatory and they pay us so I have to go or get fired.

I never had a mandated company outing, but a few days a go my manager did ask me if i would be attending the Christmas party.
In my head,I was saying"....seriouslly?The last people I want to see when I am not at work are my co workers".
I told her "I wasn't planning on it"She replied,"there's going to be lot's of really good food".
    I didn't say anything else.
No way in Hell was I going to clock out, drive 30 minutes home, work out for a half hour, drive almost another half hour to Kansas City..drive around downtown looking for a place to park,,pay 6 maybe 7 dollars for parking,,sit there and eat and pretend to be enjoying myself for who knows how long..drive back home and than have maybe 90 mnutes before I have to go to bed.
My maintenance supervisor said he didn't want to go either. But since it was his first year as supervisor,Ihe thought he should probably attend. He also said he would pretend to be happy to meet some of the corporate employees from higher up,but his true feelings were "f^ck y'all".

My work used to have Christmas parties and a lottery at the party for the people who attended. You could win a week of vacation, $500 cash, TV's, yeti cooler full of beer and other prizes. I think it was to incentivize people to show up. They also had an open bar. They haven't had a party since the new president took over 3 years ago. She's a micro-manager from hell and has already cost the company one of their biggest customers.

The Army has mandatory fun days too. Every time we had one, I would wear my special hoodie. It had a soldier in full battle rattle taking a knee hitting a joint. The caption read
    "It's 1620 somewhere"
For some reason there was always a UA the following Monday. No PT YAY!

They did this crap to us in the navy too. One time we had to get in dress whites on a Saturday and March in a stupid little California town.

I remember those too, but they were battalion level or higher events so I'd show up for the initial formation then myself and my two neer-do-well buddies would get into my car and we'd dip on out. We would either drive into town, bum around the mall and such or head back to the barracks and play video games. If there was ever an ending formation I never heard about it. I heard our first sergeant would do the same thing, probably to be with his family which he was always grumbling about whenever there was an after hours thing to be seen to.

Did any one see the movie Mr. mom. Especially the company outing at the bosses house. That was the best part.
