Alfie is one of my favorite all-time Hal David and Burt Bacharach hits from the 1960's. Ms.Cilla Black does the best version of this song and brings back great memories of my childhood. It's a shame she did not become a bigger star in the United States. There is no doubt in my mind she is one of the greatest singers of all time. I love and miss you Cilla. May you rest in peace and continue to sing songs in heaven with all the angels of God!

Check out Wikipedia. Also listen to her sing it at the World of Jazz. It is a master class of musicianship and vocal brilliance.
What a great artisit she was, especially in the days when she was at her peak in the 60s! Dionne Warwick spoke truly when she said: 'Another angelic voice will swell the heavenly choir, now that Cilla is gone.'
Some people don't realise that these old 'live' recordings did not involve high tech 'sound correction' - that many of today's so called singers use. and many of today's singers wouldn't dream of singing live anyway.
I just love Cilla Black and this is my favorite version of Alfie. Cilla had great success, but she deserved so much more as I place her right among the great female singers of all time.

When I saw the movie with my girl friend (soon to be my fiance, and then to be my wife), I had no idea of what the movie was really about, but I loved the sound track. Cilla made the best recording of this song that I have ever heard, no disrespect to Dionne Warwick. The memories of the movie, the song, and that night with my girl friend stick deeply in my mind. I can still see the movie theater, and the scenes around it. Yes! "What's it all about, Alfie?"

Love this recording, sounds perfect. I didn't like her voice as she got older but here it's very controlled and pitch perfect. She looks so young with her whole life ahead, very touching on many levels.
