That is so neat to be able to open a net that size wading. Truly an art. Amazing the amount of idiotic replys. You clearly state that these mullet are headed to the market for people to buy at a fair price. The best fried fish in the world when they come from the right water.
Great throws. I came to this area of the Florida panhandle 35 years ago with the same mindset as some of you, mullet are for bait, not to eat. After locals raved about the Island mullet here, I reluctantly tried them and became a believer. I can eat flounder, trout, grouper and snapper virtually anytime I want and I would rate the mullet here right up there with any of those. I didn't believe it either, but it is true.
i love reading the comment feed on this guys videos because it seems like every single one has a flame war between people who get it and people who dont.
+Aus_trips_modding I use chicken thighs. Chicken works really good for blue crabs and stone crabs, but only in the bay, if you want to catch crabs in the bayou/freshwater, then mullet us your best bet. I use chicken because it's easy to get and cheap, and plus I live on the bay.
Nice! Perfect size Mullets for Smokin!! So people know, Mullets are not consider game fish in Florida (more of a bait fish)- each person with a salt fishing license can be in possession of 200 mullets of any size.
all of you that have issues with him fishing like this need to look up videos of commercial fishing via trawl nets and then say something about this cause you wont. He only has striped mullet no by catch and if he gets by catch can throw it back unlike trawlers which by catch will be dead by the time nets are retrieved. I work for a state agency that regulates fishing he is totally legal.
buena pesca amigo saludos desde tijuana el mejor lugar del mundo no por la pesca por la diversion y etc... es medio camino en rosarito!!! puro tijuanense aquii pero la pesca es en rosarito saludos amigoos
Once agian, I would try it in florida or east coast. I will not cast net one at the texas beach/bag and begin to fry it. However it is a very economical fish/resource I will give you that.
Give a man a fish and you’ll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you’ll feed him for a lifetime. Give a man a 12ft net and he’ll feed you, your family, and local restaurant patrons for a lifetime!
Those are silver mullet and are much different than most gulf coast mullet. They are great smoked and that's how most people do them and the row, eggs are good too. They make great red fish bait.
In Florida you have a sand and coral bottom. In Texas we have nothing but mud and silt. The silt apparently makes the meat tast musty. Here in the Corpus Christi we have the CP&L plant discharge on the Oso, the discharge keeps the bottom silt churned up. I caught some of the biggest blue crabs I've ever seen. Cooked them but couldn't eat them, same musty tast.
well i love this we must appreciate even a small things this fish its.delicious maybe not familiar in.other country because they eat fish boneless already:)
I have tried to eat fried mullet that was prepared in a restaurant, and it was horrible - - threw it away - - however, when living on the west coast of Florida, I ate some smoked mullet that was quite tasty
Mullet is nice but you have to know how to cook it. Cooked over charcoal is a nice way too and eaten with a dip of lemon and chilies and some thick coconut cream. I don't buy mullet from the market but when I'm out at sea, I catch them.
Man! that's awesome. I keep seeing people throwing out cast nets and pulling in a dozen fish at a time, but I'm going out there and catching one fish the whole day. I hope things are much better during the mullet run.
What is wrong with all of you? Do something about the huge ships that empty the oceans. Fishing for yourself and your family and friends isn't that bad. If everyone would do this there wouldn't be a problem. Don't buy fish, catch it!
Mm you tell that to the masses…apparently us Rec fishos (that are such a minority of fish depletion) are the worst thing since sliced bread ….it’s what happens when misinformation goes rife …then they attack us with laws because they let them dredge the oceans dry….hardly fair ….
Jeez I've been looking at spearfishing for weeks, breathing techniques, carefully learning to stock your prey, etc. I type in "fishing with nets" just now, and this (very nice and friendly) overweight american just walks into the shallows, throws a net without effort, and at a snail's pace, walks back to the beach dragging a crap load of fish behind him. This is definitely the way to feed your family. I am still laughing about this.
ryan belter I've got the spear pole, mask and snorkel, but I am holding off. I live in the puget sound area in the pnw, and I do not trust these waters to provide toxin-free fish.
I am blessed with clean waters thankfully here in the outer banks NC. Not everyone can spear their own fish though, to make a living I use nets and I think I fish very responsibly. Mullet like what he is catching and other bait fish grow almost as fast as the algae they eat.
From a boat, me and my dad have one Carolina skiff we fish from. We try to take really good care of our catch and work hard to not be wasteful of anything. We want our water ecology to be healthy so it can be fished sustainably, lots of pollution and overfishing happened in the 70's and 80's but things are getting better now I think. Oysters need to make a comeback to balance the water and make structure where fish like to feed and hang around. Another project we have going is a .8 acre oyster farm. When completed, it should make for a nice spearfishing spot. :)
In New Zealand my dad catches grey mullet fish too and smokes it. it is yummy to eat. But not as many as you video... Sometimes he catches over 20 and he shares it with our family and neighbors, I showed my dad your video and he was like wow...hehehe.. He said your a professional and you fish for a job. and he only does it for his hobby and feeds me and my sisters. He said he would like to fish everyday but in New Zealand its hard to fishing as a job. I like eating fish see ya.. By Merceious
Cool netting. Never know what you're going to get in the salt either. People: realize there's trillions of mullet in the ocean...running out of mullet would be like running out of grass.
Look up local and federal regulations on mullet fishing before you start bashing people. I am a recreational fisherman, not commercial, and I agree that a lot of the mom-and-pop commercial guys out there don't care about bycatch or regulations... But this guy is doing nothing wrong. Where I'm at (FL), recreational mullet limits are 50 Per Person per day, and commercial ranges from 5-50 per person depending on which county you're located in. He even made a statement to throw back one fish that was just above legal size (a light 12"). So please, educate yourself before you speak. It makes you look like a fool.
Nestor Nazario Commercial fisherman license cost 100 bucks in Mississippi a fisherman was telling me.He said he could sell fish on the corner all day with that license.
Mike Davis I believe it man. A commercial license is more pricey here in FL, but I still meet people weekly that make their living on commercial fishing. They sell what they can, and feed their families on the rest.
Hi Michael Ahn. Yes, 50 is our limit here in FL. I personally dont fish for mullet (I use the little guys as bait though) but it's a known limit down here. I've put a link to the official FWC regulations here. myfwc.com/fishing/saltwater/recreational/mullet/
You sure make it look easy! I just ordered one of these nets for the Sockeye run, hope I can throw it out there as well as you do with a little practice.... gill net and seining are most common net fishing up here, but I'm gonna give it a try... any pointers? PS just ignore the trolls, they think food just magically appears!
dude this is so cool.you reminds me of me.only difference, you cast a 12 footer,i only cast a 9.all in all,it's the same as in south America and in texas where I live now.your style is Heavenly.tight.
Wow that’s a lot of fish. What kind? Mullets? In Guam I paksiu that fish with fresh clean water, long cut onions, vinegar and lightly salted very delicious with white steamed rice.
I wish I could wade fish like that on the gulf coast in Mississippi, but we have a flesh eating bacteria in the waters. So many people have died and lost body parts from that bacteria.
That is so neat to be able to open a net that size wading. Truly an art. Amazing the amount of idiotic replys. You clearly state that these mullet are headed to the market for people to buy at a fair price. The best fried fish in the world when they come from the right water.
Exactly...
This man throws pancakes! This man has some skills. I wish I could pancake a 6' net, let alone a 12' net.

Smoked mullet is amazing surprised no one in comments agree
I don't eat mullet I use it for crab bait
Aus_trips_modding I used to do that. But chicken works better
really??? what do you use just chicken breast?
+Aus_trips_modding I use chicken thighs. Chicken works really good for blue crabs and stone crabs, but only in the bay, if you want to catch crabs in the bayou/freshwater, then mullet us your best bet. I use chicken because it's easy to get and cheap, and plus I live on the bay.
+Fishes worst enemy blue crabs and stone crabs well dam I have never caught those or seen them I only get sand crabs and mud crabs
best net casting i have ever seen
smoked mullet is the best

I can't believe people eat these mullet. I'm sure they are wine during a few seasons in Florida or east cost. Down here in texas. That shit is nasty
Same with Louisiana, not a fish you would want to eat
Never tried it have you? Fried mullet is so good. Right up there W any fried fish
Once agian, I would try it in florida or east coast. I will not cast net one at the texas beach/bag and begin to fry it. However it is a very economical fish/resource I will give you that.
Aaron Marshall Mullet is delicacy when you make Sashimi..
Down here in Texas mullet are nasty bait fish
cast netting on a shallow beach is always the best, easy catch and easy food. free food.
Cast...!!! Drag onshore like a boss...!!! Hahaha...nice vid bro :)
Nice!!! I just bought an illustrated bible and your pic was in it! Lol
God has blessed me man !!
that looks very fun
Fried mullet with hushpuppies and cheese grits. Can't beat it.
Man I wish I could throw a net that good.
I know! Amazing cast!
@Thomas D. Harrell... Practice practice practice

All of these comments about eating mullet, this is Florida smoked mullet is a time honored tradition. Yankees get out.
lolutkhimtodabarl For sure !

We fry them here in NC, they taste pretty bad in the warmer months. But right about now is the perfect time to eat them.
Just mullet! I used to throw a 24' foot net for mullet smoke it over night 😋 yum.
"commercial" in the title, so probably sold them.
But he says get the grill ready ???

lovely fishing
Any fish from the sea is better than the fish from fresh water. Mullets are tasty to eat.
Very big net 12’ very few people can do this too good job mate
Is there any good way to cook and eat a mullet? I grilled one once with lemon and some salt and pepper. Wasn't the best lol.
AngryLS1 we usually smoke them...yummy
AngryLS1 deep fry them in stakes, they are the best
AngryLS1 Ferment fillet in Sushi rice for a night and next day make sashimi in Japan & Korea.
Sad my NC coworkers don't like them, the call them bait for fishing yet they eat shrim and squids which are probably the most famous baits
smoked or fried
wow... a lot of fish there... I wish i could live there ..

All I could think of was, Chinese steamed mullet with black bean, green onions, and peanut oil. 😋
Dam you throw the net badass. I throw a 6 foot like nothing but a 7 or 10 foot I get tired by the 4th throw and start throwing it all sloppy lol
I wish I could fish like that here where I live at. Good job my friend on the catch.
Sometimes when I go fishing here in switzerland and all of the perch won't bite, I'd wish I had a net like you 😂😋
