    Gary was one of the very best, such a sad loss. To those that think he's "over the top" or doesn't play with subtlety, I recommend you to listen to Gary's album "Close As You Get".

      Gary Moore was one of the top notch guitar player. He came to fruition later in his career, mainly through "Still got the Blues". That only put him on the map because he was already a virtuoso anyway. His guitar playing will always be out of this world and unique. Enhanced because Gary was left handed but learned and played the guitar as right handed. This contributed to having a special ability. There are others left handed players which have special command of the fretboard.

    RIP Gary Moore. Buddy told me himself that Gary was a nice guy, and asked him (Buddy) to open for him on a tour. Buddy said that during sound-check that Gary played a real tasteful chord-only version of "Moon River" that impressed him. Having said THAT...now I'll say that Buddy out-classes Gary here. Gary overplays on this. Not just my opinion...a FACT. Buddy could have burned up his fret-board, but he knew what to play, and what not to play. Buddy is one of the top 5 blues guitarists on Planet Earth.
    He is also very humble, a Christian, a gentleman, and has a very gentle spirit and demeanor. To know him is to love him.

      Gary's approach is/was no secret to any guitar player over the past 40 years. Buddy would not have invited Gary on that stage if he didn't want the songs to a have foot up it's ass at some point. That said Buddy blends with his band on almost level while still being the leader. Gary on the other hand has always been the center in his bands and the band always being the canvas if you will. These guys have completely different approaches but both are great and great together and IMO these two and maybe Warren might be the best blues players over the past 30 years.

      Gary was never a very subtle guitarist. His best blues was on Blues for Greeny. Buddy was born to play the blues. Only Johnny Hiland when he plays blues can touch him, but Buddy has better phrasing. Johnny goes for the fast stock riffs a bit too much.
      However, not particularly a bluesman, Arlen Roth has to be the greatest all around guitarist of all time.
      Listen to the Hot Licks Album studio version of When a Man Loves Women and you will know what I mean!

      SJ ..Not at all , This was Gary's approach alway's & he never stepped on toes . Not sure what not being s great blues player your missing but you sure did miss the boat. This was a great performance of two of the best. I must agree with Tonko on his reply WTF !!!

    • @edmiley729
      @edmiley729 5 лет назад +2

      Blues..has always been Gary's thing. He started as a kid with it and returned to his roots in 1990. His style is / can very aggressive by comparison but that is what made him stand out during his blues phase..it wasn't Clapton or SRV on purpose, but he certainly captured elements of all the blues greats that influenced in his playing and he could have played circles around any and all past hero's and his contemporaries. There's a reason why other greats invited him to play..because he was great and they knew full well what was coming. On top of that there is a certain rage that is a common theme in Irish blues/rock players that you just don't hear in others.ie..Rory Gallagher, Gary Moore, Simon McBride and Vivian Campbell. Although Viv is best know for his work with DIO there is a definite amalgam of Rory & Gary mixed in there. It's just an edge in the sound the British guys or American guys don't have. It's not better, just different.
