Gary Moore was a big fan of Buddy's and wanted him to have more recognition, which is why he'd often turn up at these gigs.. to try and bring him to a wider audience. It's not about one guitarist smokin' another, it's about mutual respect !
Buddy should indeed have much more recognition I wonder why he isn't more well known. Good on the great Gary for his gestures on love and musical respect.
I think that's just Gary's demeanor. They jammed together on several occasions I believe. Two of my favorite guitarists on this planet!!! Still sad that Gary left us. Much respect to both!
some of the best, great to see Gary chopmaster dial to club level with the real blues cats, not just metal guys doing blues...very nice...Buddy is awesome, alone or with Mayall or whoever.
Gary Moore doing his thing with a great band, don't get any better. Stonkin should be proud of the quality of this fine clip, keep up the good work as always.
HELP! I'm addicted to it - watched it a hundred times last three days ... AWESOME in every beat ... GREAT SOUNDS ... SUPERB BAND ... wonderful interaction & performane ... ONE OF THE BEST VIDEOS I'VE EVER SEEN ON RUclips! CHEERS! Congratulations from Austria! ;-)) ;-))
Never heard of Buddy Whittington but stumbled on this clip looking for stuff by Gary Moore. Glad I did. Not much of Gary but a good band with a nice shuffle. Guess I'll check out some more of their stuff.
Buddy is a serious guitar player. Gary really liked him. Buddy has a real nice touch to the blues & boogie. Maybe Gary could smoke him playing heavy metal but Gary had basicly gone over to the blues & stopped playing heavy rock. I really liked Buddy. That's a great sounding strat Buddy is playing too.
Don't forget Darby Todd on drums - in the pocket or what? Apparently when Gary Moore had Albert King guesting on one album, The King said to him, 'son, don't you think your playing too many notes?' Gary's response was not recorded. Buddy W is superb here.
I was sitting three rows back right in the firing line of Gary's amp on this gig and he was disgustingly loud. He came on and played the second half with the band and for me it was ruined by his volume. Obviously the audio on the videos of that night was either recorded from the other side of the stage or thru the desk and edited afterwards. Make no mistake, Gary Moore drowned everyone out. Full marks to the sound engineer on these vids...
I can imagine how it must have been. I saw GM several times and on one occasion he was supported by Buddy...and I agree that GM was really OTT with volume....and a tad arrogant...I actually rated Buddy as a better musician...
I only mean that Moore was playing here a great Solo...and his expresion was like: what the hell am I doing here!! jaja But no comparision is good...they both are Great Musicians!!
Well Buddy is a monster playing this kind of music. But Gary COULD smoke him playing stuff like "Empty Rooms" or "Out in the Fields" Well on songs like that, Gary Moore could smoke any other guitar player for my money.
bob lackey IMO Gary was the best blues and blues/rock player ever. If not, who's better? Would need to see evidence. That said, buddy w is right up there. One of the best humans. To me, Gary is on diety level. Human measurements don't apply.
I was at the jam to and I disagree with Graham Rowley. Gary 's tone and playing was superlative and biting and he didn't drown out the band he was using a smaller amp then Buddy. It is that gary's aggressive playing and with a Les Paul with is a far superior guitar then a Strat made it sound louder. Buddy will never allow anyone to play over him or his band.Gary looked bored and life looks like life has taken a toll on him.
Looks like you weren't directly in front of Gary then, Mike. Amp size and guitar type son't alter the volume. The amps are mic'd to the main pa so the desk can balance the volume. The Les Paul, in my opinion, is not superior to the Stratocaster (I own two of each), but I think that your comment 'made it sound louder' backs up what I said. Gary Moore sounded louder. That is what I said. His Marshall amp was actually more powerful that Buddy's but as I say, if it is kept at a reasonable volume the sound will come through the pa well balanced. I wonder if you were further back or sitting at the right hand side? It is nice we can all have our own opinions and are able to express them on here. I have been a GM fan since way back in the 70's and have seen him perform numerous times in bigger venues where he was very good indeed and I still listen to his playing. Best wishes, Graham.
Mike O'Brien Gary Moore he was a profesional guitar player , you can not making noise o trying to show up when there is a piano and another lead guitar , everything was on its place but nowdays people listen music with their eyes.

jackcame2 Damn Straight, Gary using Restraint= Respect..
Buddy should indeed have much more recognition I wonder why he isn't more well known.

Some of the sweetest guitar work i've heard in a long time, R.I.P. Gary, you will be missed.
Love the respect Buddy gives his band members...
i love buddy whittington, such a simple tone, its all style!!!!!!!!! love it!! the solos always put a huge geeky grin on my face!
Thankful for this wonderful performance of our song by these two guitar greats...Buddy Whittington and Gay Moore!
I think that's just Gary's demeanor. They jammed together on several occasions I believe. Two of my favorite guitarists on this planet!!! Still sad that Gary left us. Much respect to both!
Wish Gary was still with us 👍
Bless your Soul Buddy Whittington! RIP GM!
big smile on GM's dial at the end says it all. He had a great time
Buddy and Gary are both awesome player's in there own right, really love your upload's of these show's. Miss you Gary.
The majestic Gary Moore
RIP Gary Moore passed 6 February 2011 in Spain on holiday.
Gary The Master.
Used to hang out at a couple of clubs in the mid cities between Dallas and Fort Worth in the 90s. Saw Buddy play many times. Loved his sound

Plenty of Guitar-Slinging here - with a nice shuffle from the lads. Spiffing !!
2 grands ,que du bonheur

Does Gary really wanted to play here?? He looks like he doesn´t....
But I still love his playing...

3:59 Gary’s’ vibrato... isn’t a vibrato, he painted a rainbow. Out of this world.
Suddenly I see hacker Gary More next to Buddy and I say that, if one is good the other is better. Two monsters

SMOKIN'
Randall Stockton ..
Where are you ??
How many people cut right to the guitar solo at 2:22 ? And at 3:50 ?
@Tripodesalomoni ?
Whatever purpose he was there for, "YAYGARY"!!!"
paul levine Restraint from Gary if that ain't respect then what is???
Gary kills on this!
Gary seems as board as can be, & I don't know why as these guys are playing great.
Probably drunk. But he was my all time favourite guitarist be it blues or rock. He created real emotion.
i know its a strat....but what are the specs...is that a John M. with big dippers?...through the dr. Wu
:)
I only mean that Moore was playing here a great Solo...and his expresion was like: what the hell am I doing here!! jaja
But no comparision is good...they both are Great Musicians!!
Man that old lady sure can play that les Paul.
You're killin me.
Buddy makes every Strat sound good...Notice all he uses is a Strat and a Dr.Z amp..
jejejje, Gary waiting.... to play.... thinking about if he left something in his house.. jejej
Gary not very happy in this vid. he was a great player sad that he passed ;never got to see him live sadley
Gary not looking too well ,great playing though ,loved Gary ,followed him for years
?????

Ha! Gary looks completely bored! He's probably thinking.." Man, I could smoke this bloke anytime!"...ha!
I was at the jam to and I disagree with Graham Rowley. Gary 's tone and playing was superlative and biting and he didn't drown out the band he was using a smaller amp then Buddy. Excellent respect between 2 great guitarists.

Didn't Buddy ask Gaz to turn up his volume ? You can clearly saying "more" at 1:02
RIp Gary Moore :/
Did I say Buddy was a bad player or a joke as a player? Nope. Just said Gary looks bored. Got nothing to do with Buddy's playing or tone.
