Thank you for the note to the GTR fanboys at the end! This is the first video on youtube where I havent seen one of them comment. Im probably going to bait a few lol but that doesnt change reality. The GTR is a brilliant car but without driving the Veyron nobody would be able to wrap their head around what it appears to do and every person who has driven it claims it does.

ohh man that sound just gives me chills. sounds like the speed demon it is
when the 4 turbos wake up, the sound makes the veyron feels like a very expensive moving black hole on the earth surface is sucking the earth atmosphere. just impressive, there is no other words to describe this car.

This is one of the few videos I've watched that really give a sense of the tremendous acceleration of this amazing car. It's really astonishing to see, and hear. 0-100 mph in 5 seconds -- this video gives a slight feel for what that figure means..and a high 9 second quarter mile at 145 or so.. Man, who wouldn't want a test drive in this pinnacle of automotive engineering? Love it. (And hey, I love GT-Rs too..and ZR1 Vettes and the awesome new Ferrari F12. But this car is Super Man.)

You also have to add that acceleration depends not just on power. As you said earlier, there's power curve and peak torque. And we also have to remember that there's tire friction, which may or may not help the acceleration. Drag coefficient and aerodynamic coefficient also plays role in that. And that's why, to increase Veyron's top speed by 15mph, they have to find another 200bhp.
never been a fan of the veyron, but this was an exellent video, Nick. You did a perfect job transmitting the sensation of driving this car! Chapeau!
From Wikipedia : Brake horsepower (bhp) is the measure of an engine's horsepower before the loss in power caused by the gearbox, alternator, differential, water pump, and other auxiliary components such as power steering pump, muffled exhaust system, etc. Brake refers to a device which was used to load an engine and hold it at a desired RPM. During testing, the output torque and rotational speed were measured to determine the brake horsepower.
I've never been a big fan of the Veyron, but holy hell , what a great video! Fantastic job Mr. Trott, you have learned well from your predesessors.
That distinct "acceleration noise" that you hear: The wind-noise, the turbos, the exhaust, the fact that this thing has no roof. It all makes me feel like it's a live concert and a Dubstep Producer/DJ just made that Bass drop of his LIFE. Literally watching this and hearing that distinct noise made me get goosebumps and out-loud say "Hooooolyyy shit" Imagine DRIVING THIS THING! I can't fathom that.

This is a great video, by an excellent and engaging reviewer.
My only complaint is that the best camera angle was criminally under-used.
Please don't underestimate how much real motoring enthusiasts (evo readers) value raw, unedited forward facing camera footage, simply showing the driver, his inputs and the road ahead. I know that isn't practical for an entire review, but please consider what we actually learn by watching you talk whilst trees flash past behind you for 90% of a video.

Yep. And I wasn't saying you're wrong. It's awesome to watch the Alpha GT-R in the drag strip. Like I said before, I love the GT-R. It's fascinating, be it tuned or stock. But it's just so crazy to see a stock Veyron perform like this, when you think about all the commitment they have with luxury and reliability. Like you've just said, it is a piece of art indeed.

Judging a car by its looks... woow :) Real mature guys :\ Most of the haters out there haven't even seen it forget about driving. I personally love Veyron, its my favorite since 2006 and i think its a beauty in every angle. VW tried to maintain the old classy Bugatti heritage and they did a pretty good job. Lets say you are a very fat person and every single person on this planet hates you even your mum because you are fat and ugly not even considering what you are from the inside, your feelings, emotions, behavior, personality, criticize you in every single way possible, how will that feel people? Same goes to the cars(or motorcycles). True car enthusiast would never criticize a car by its looks, they see it as a person and treats them like one. So all the fanboys out there who hates Veyron or other particular so called "ugly" car, have something called humanity in your selves before judging anything in this world.

Same key and instrument cluster display as my old B5.5 VW Passat. in fact, the W8 was essentially an engineering exercise for the W16 in the Veyron (which is two W8s joined together at the crank)
Having seen one of these in person, I can tell you, the interior is simply amazing. It is a work of art inside. The amount of detail is just superb. Also gopro's take away a lot of video quality that a regular camera could give. They also have shitty audio.

The PS was adopted by the Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) and then by the automotive industry throughout most of Europe, under varying names.
It's a one piece glass roof that comes off and is stowed on a stand in your garage. There is also a fold up cloth roof that stows under the bonnet/hood in case it rains when you're out.
best interior award goes to the Spyker hands down. Now that is a piece of art. So it the car itself. The aileron has the most beautiful wheels

ive never been a very big fan of the veyron because, since its introduction everyone in the worlds favourite car is a veyron but this does look veeerrrry nice in blue.

AGREED i have always felt if i were to pay as much as these super cars or exotics cost that i would want the interior too be just as amazing as the exterior is and the Huayra has done just that THEREFORE being my current favorite super car and top of my first to buy list!

Another point is Bugatti could make Veyron very track oriented if they wanted but that is missing the points. Few will be able to really push to the limit without killing themselves considering its massive power and torque. Some comments can't grasp how difficult to make a controllable 1000+ hp that can be easy to drive. Lets say that Veyron radically revived interested to supercars and has become a model to beat as a complete package.

I see the GTR vids but the poise that the Veyron achieves its speed is unmatched. Koenigseggs also fizz and buzz like crazy.

Take a look closer at Bugatti Veyron carbon fibres, you will notice a big difference in term of quality of engineering and work of art. To this day, Bugatti is the only manufacturer to use different colour of carbon fibres other than black: green, grey and blue. In addition, seen Veyron in person is a changing mind.

It's the king of the last decade i'd say, it completely revolutionized the concept of a hypercar, but now, there are models of other brands which surpass it significantly both statistically and economically.
MeGaFPSPlAyEr3000 But its not just top speed, its about the build quality, the feel of it and the scope of it. The bugatti could be considered the best build quality of any car and also, the way it feels so stable when going at high speeds. Cars like the Hennesy Venom can be a little scary at high speed because it doesnt match the build quality of the Veyron.
shbitz Jesus christ update yourself a bit now and then. The Agera surpasses the Veyron in both acceleration and top speed. The Bugatti doesn't even have an impressive acceleration capabillity, however it's the top speed that earned it its reputation back when it was still top of the league.

Well not a grand sport vitesse, but yeah a standard one. And personally youtube automatically compresses a lot of the audio making it difficult to really get accurate sound. Either way i agree it doesn't shout about it all like a lot of super cars, but it does sound pretty unique and in my opinion rather cool in person.

I'm surprised nobody gets sucked out of the seat and into the engine with those turbos. The whistle is deafening.
Saying that most modern rally and even race car drivers use their left foot to break as the clutch is only used for getting the car moving from a standstill.

The Aventador makes 700hp (metric) and 690hp (mechanic).
If you want a case of "pretty numbers" look no further, the Veyron produces more than 1001hp but you know, 1001 is more catchy.
The case you're talking about is quite different, Mercedes markets the V8 as 6.3 only as a reference to the iconic M100 engine from the 60's which had 6332 cc.
Mercedes also goes as far as naming the 2011 E Class AMG the 6.3 when the engine is 5461 cc.
Actually, bhp is the measure used in the UK. The germans have PS wich is usually more (on the top of my head i can say that the new vanquish has 565 bhp / 573 PS. It's just a different unit, like inches, pounds and miles to centimeters, kilos and kilometers

It seems you are looking into a racing style when referring to F40 and McLaren F1. I think Veyron style makes it different and the fact it attracts curious people speaks volume. Bugatti is a French brand which started in Moshleim (formerly on Germany soil until WW1). Veyron has definitely soul, you need to see yourself in person or ride into it.
Well comparing the interior of the Veyron to the interior of the Huayra wouldn't be fair to either of them.
The Veyron is really REALLY luxurious but it skimps a bit on the aesthetics (the materials are nice but still a bit conservative) while no other cabin really comes close to the exquisite nature of the futuristic Huayra (you are basically sitting in a piece of art).
@cyclingguy3 the Agera R is a v8 rwd car with nearly 1200hp running on bio fuel
All over the world it's 1200HP, but in Britain it's 1183HP. They just love being unique.

I agree with the last part, but definitely not with the first. The Veyron shall always remain a milestone in automotive history, as an engineering masterpiece. I'm not a big fan of them myself, like you, for lack of drama and a too bulky appearance to my taste, but you have to respect the amount of engineering that went into it to get it to this level.

Well the Veyron has an automatic transmission meaning his left foot is freed from clutch-duty so he can then minimize braking-reaction times by doing what's know in the racing world as left-food-braking.

What you describe is basically a race car covered for road use. Bugatti Veyron broke that silly myth of supercar behaving like a race car. It is designed to be a high speed road car with low rev engine and higher torque. The sound is unique (baritone level) reminding the old refined WWII era transport / bomber airplanes. Be glad a controllable 1200 hp hypercar that defied a traditional concept of cars exists so car industries can advance further. This machine is mid-car/mid-plane.
