I really can't understand people who say that Ciri is uglier now. I think she's beautiful, maybe because I'm not that young anymore, but I find older women more attractive than younger ones.
I don't understand why people are calling her ugly. The game is set after a few years of the Witcher 3. She's older and she became a Witcher. We know it's not an easy path. We saw that in the trailer, It's a really dark world. Especially for her, she's more of an emotional character. She's just more mature than what we saw/read previously. I believe the game is going to be as good as the Witcher 3. We are going to play with a character who willingly became a Witcher, and walk her through this path, creating her Witcher codex. It sounds pretty damn interesting to me.
I don't think she looks ugly at all. She looks more eastern european than in the Witcher 3 and is obviously a bit older. I think some people just want to get outraged and call everything woke. You had a pretty sane take. I feel like most of the people that are complaining that she is the protagonist clearly never completed the witcher 3.
@@ZaricheYruga I think it makes the most sense! The thing that has caught my attention is her eyes! When she drinks the potion! They are definitely different from anything I’ve seen from her before! I think there’s some Witcher in her! What do you think?
@AVVGaming1 That was so obvious, I was frankly surprised you said she is not, when even drinking that Witcher potion would kill her unless she was a Witcher. Clearly some time has passed since the end of the W3, but now I'm wondering do we start out with Witcher Powers, or do we have to gain that ability with a quest line.
@@ZaricheYruganot expanded but retconed her as a witcher makes absolutely no sense, she was one of the strongest entities in the Witcher univers already why would she debuff herself
I think that would have been pretty sick and the way they did it with cyberpunk shows they can do it. Imagine, making your own Witcher then doing the trials etc. that would have been so sick!
They’re already doing another Witcher game with a custom character. They’ve got 3 games they’re working on for the Witcher IP: Witcher 4, Witcher 1 Remake, and a game where we create our own Witcher.
@@Carolina3489Panthers Did she lose her powers after stopping the white frost? When did they mention that? Can you link a video that proves that? That would change almost nothing because females can’t become Witchers and adults can’t become Witchers. So with those two strikes against her, and your claim of no powers, how does it happen?
So you just outright chosing to ignore that they show in the trailer that she aparently has undergone "the trial of the grasses" which is lorebreaking. They can of course chose to include this change in the story of the new game with a lore based and expanding explanation. But i have my doubts based on how studios have treated their franshises and fans later years. But really hope that they will
What is the page number? Because nowhere in the lore does it state it can't be done. In fact, the series leaves plenty of obvious avenues as to how it could be done. Some harder to find quotes and some not so hidden but made obvious by the context in the books. But... I'm guessing you don't even know a chapter, a page, what book, or in which Witcher order... you just watched some hate video and believed it.
@@Unworshipediety For eksample the fact that throughout the books its emphazised that only men are witchers! theres also the story about Alzir the wizard who laid the ground work for the "trial of the grasses" he eksperimented on both women and men and found a much higher survival rate with men. Also when the "School of the Cat" tried they apparently found this to be true. So yes it can be done but only by luck since one cant know who will make it. That being said there is also the aspect of why Ciri would take this risk even if she (or another) somehow found a safer way? I am not against them expanding the lore if they do it proper and with respect for the existing lore. Initially i was very nerveous that they wouldent (for obvious reasons) but after seeing what they have said themselves on the topic i feel more reassured. Apparently they are plannng to make it all part of the story and am looking forward to see how that pans out.
@@thomasjensen2285 Just check out the real lore channels on the issue. I wrote a long response, twice now, but either it's deleted or eaten up by YT or maybe I'm using a word that gets a response auto-deleted. I'm not sure, not gonna fret about it. But basically, there are more reasons why female witchers are a harder nut to crack. The biology of it is related to women being able to, have children, and a part of the process hampers that for women for obvious reasons (sterility for both sexes, but women being childbearers, may been the factor gating them off, usually, or adding to the physical stress), making them unable to conceive. It's hinted that _may_ be a contributing factor and a new concution might be needed. The author classically leaves a lot of this open to interpretation... because he usually describes the process through the perspective of a character and how through narrative storytelling setting things in absolutes. It's not saying per se, that's the case but it hints that a different formula, no less dangerous, but a formula more dangerous to men, could be more beneficial to women. There's a lot they talk about in the books, environmental stuff, abortions, and political reasoning for some ideas. That's why those of us who read the series are so flabbergasted by all this _weird_ talk when we hear folks who pretend to know the lore, that women or hell... it's hinted that men could be sorceresses if enough things are in alignment, not likely, nothing is saying that it can't happen, just as much likely as a female Witcher being even possible. Most of the world's magic, or ideas are based on prototypes, there's lots of stuff that _could_ happen,n and no real reason to set things in stone when everything is so malleable. But anyway, I did my best to leave out any words that could get me clipped again. So if this seems vague, sorry. But, the stuff with Ciri doesn't even bother me, she's got plenty of reasons why it's possible for her, she'd be the exception without even much of an explanation. So from that aspect, it's almost a moot point to go over it. I personally just wanted to make my own Witcher,... being that I never found Geralt interesting enough for me to play. But, I did start up a game and so far Witcher 3 is fun. I just don't like him as much as most do, but some of these choices, politics, and game world really do feel like they're paying so much homage to the books, so yeah. N E ways, bye!
Mannn! I’m doing a second video today and guess what it’s about! kCd2!!! And it’s called “why kcd2 will change gaming forever!” It’ll be up in less than 4 hours! I already got it recorded just doing the final edit! Now I’m really hyped to get it up! Thanks for this comment!
"I was shocked that people were so upset" why? We've been dealing with this now for over a decade. Sometimes it's valid criticism but often people are just finding reasons to complain. If you go looking for problems and trouble you'll find it and some people just love to go looking for trouble.
4:33 Depends entirely on the genre. It's 50/50 if you include mobile games. But fantasy RPGs are around 15-20% female. MMORPGs have the highest amount of women at around 33%. Shooters/mobas are nearly entirely men.
thats slowly changing for anything but shooters and i don't really see whats the big issue, having a female protag doesn't make something woke, there was nothing about this trailer that even whispered "woke" to me.
I think it's kind of foolish to think that the girl who Geralt adopted and trained into becoming a "witcher" *wouldn't* be the new main character, especially with Geralt being retired.
And yet we shall miss him ever so. We know he will make a cameo at least! No matter how the game is I will always love Witcher 3 and will always have it available. But yes Ciri to me was the logical choice
Geralt will never allow this.. To be a witcher you must transform via mutation to a sterile outcast first..And why the powerful in magic Ciri choose this path, to be a sterile woman, to gain money killing monsters? This makes no sense, iam afraid that wanted to replace Geralt , and this was the most appealing for them.. But you cant replace Geralt , there is no new lore... For me the best choise could be Geralt in the younger age in the trining era, or a new charachter..
@@zamansif3784 geralt and vesemir literally train ciri in the ways of the Witcher in the books and geralt gifts ciri a Witcher sword, the swallow at the end of W3. You are bringing ur own bias into this mate. 😅
I just want a side quest were ciri meets up with the bloody baron. Just to see how he is and if his wife is okay. I have always saved her in my gameplays.
A man that would be so sick! Can you imagine? He was an example of a very well written character. He did so many messed up things, but I still liked him. I felt his pain, His struggle. My favourite play through was always the ending where he takes his wife to find help. I never let the thing out of the tree. I did it once just to see how it looks but then that was it. who else would you want to meet from Witcher 3?
@AVVGaming1 oh man. So many things can be explored. We could run into people as we quest that had helped her in 3. How her relationships with the lodge. How are they now. Are they still after her. Meeting up with dandelion, since he doesn't age. Maybe a questline about her father finding out she is still alive. I mean the possibilities are endless. Plus, if you notice her eyes when she drinks the potion. They are different then regular witcher eyes. The area surrounding the pupils is like a sparkling green. Like her eyes when she uses her elderblood powers. Yes. They are slit like a cat but are not the normal witcher eyes.
Personally, I never found Geralt or Ciri particularly interesting characters and hoped CD Project Red would let us play as a costumed or original witcher character. As an RPG lover, I think using an established character would only limit our decision-making options in the game. Ciri already has a very clear personality and a set of moral values, making it hard for us to make decisions that don't match those characteristics.
No me either. I don’t think it’s that huge of a deal and I’m generally surprised about the reaction to it. Apparently it’s been a big deal since horizon forbidden west which is a game I never played.
@AVVGaming1 Well it is sort of true I've seen plenty of prove that the models that devs base their female characters on are often way better looking then the character themself, you can look up side by side comparisons if you want to see for yourself. But I just think this is one trailer and lots can change in the game. And yeah she does look very different from the witcher 3, but this is also a world with magic that can change the way you look. So who knows there is probable a good reason for it. Edit: to fix really bad spelling mistake.
If somehow the Witcher 4 came out in 2016 or 2017, it wouldn’t have had the same negative impact. The problem here is how much has happened in the gaming industry these last 10 years. DEI and ESG are things ruining the triple A scene and it affects games in general.
I literally don't understand the hate.. I don't know if its because I am in my mid-thirties.. but I genuinely just think Ciri looks like a mature woman.. And I dont think she is ugly... And when I see the Ciri in witcher 3... she looks more like a child to me. I think a lot happens when you age.. (which is good) because I do think people in their early to mid twenties looks more like teens now.. were people in their 30'ies looks older. That being said.. I do remember being 21 and thinking that 30 year olds looked like old mums.. now I just find mums hot hahah.. Actually I think CD has done a great job at aging Ciri from being a girl, to a young adult.. to a mature woman. I never understood why people thought Aloy was ugly.. I guess its just a taste thing. Unless they changed her a lot in the 2nd game (I have yet to get to that game.. as a father I don't get to play a lot.. and I have a locked list of games that I play through in order that I put the game on the list.) I would also like to point out that the vibe I get from the books (I have not read them all yet) - Its Ciri who is the "real" main character.. and we just experience her journey through Gerald as a mentor.. not to mention that in the second book I recall death literally saying that she will take his soul if he does not take the path fait has been trying to push him down 4 times.. with each denial having a precaution. I was actually pretty pumped for the 4th game.. and my wife.. she genuinly had lights in her eyes when I showed her the trailer.. I think she was super hyped to see a woman in her 30'ies doing awesome things.. I think her design also reminds me a lot of Emily Kaldwin from Dishonoured 2.
Yes I am pretty much in agreement with your assessment. First of all, it’s just a trailer so I don’t think everyone should have reacted as negative as they had. I see it and almost ignore the character just looking at the tone which is dark, oppressive and dangerous. It’s a Witcher world and I’m glad they captured that feeling. The second thing is if Ciri shall be a Witcher, well, she would get “less attractive “ over time. I mean killing monsters and getting battered every day, living on the land, would age you and toughen you up. If she still looked the same after 10 years of monster hunting, you would wonder what’s going on. I think if you are going to choose a female as your main character, in a Witcher role in such a dark and dangerous world, it makes sense that she appears like that. I reckon we have to give them a chance, and then we can make judgements after the game is released.
@AVVGaming1 Yeah.. I mean. If they made her a beautiful young 21 y.o. with perfect skin.. that can fight as well as Gerald.. she would just be a Mary Sue like Ray and Captain America and people would complain about that xD Idk.. I really felt the scene was true to the writing of Andrzej Sapkowski... albiet.. without the humor. But there are also scenes in the books that get really serious.
The problem with Aloy's face in the Horizon Forbidden West reveal trailer was that it was too off compared to the rest of the body, skinny with a chubby face. I can affirm for certain that they tweaked her face later for the rest of the game and she WAS beautiful during the game. The problem is that many didn't even touched the finished game and still have opinions. Or they are as*holes that still spread the "ugly" aloy narrative just to bolster their "anti-woke" agendas.
She looks great. She’s older, battle hardened, and the Witcher mutations would affect her body as well. Not to mention with better technology they’re able to create more detail in the character model than they could 10 years ago. Those people complaining are just a vocal minority who will complain about anything. Just like how before Baldur’s Gate 3 came out, they’ll scream and cry about it being “woke” and after it releases they’ll go quiet cause everyone loves it.
So the only argument I can get is in lore witchers are only men due to the experiments done and women didn’t survive them Hear me out one ending Ciri became a Witcher. I would love the twist Ciri decided to follow in geralts footsteps but add the twist of instead of undergoing the men Witcher mutation she used her knowledge of magic and witchers with her friends used her power added it to that to find her own unique Witcher mutation. She could use all her skills to fill the voids a traditional Witcher has from mutations This could add really cool lore and quests to complet her unique Witcher transformation
@AVVGaming1 Definitely! I'm currently playing Thief Gold and Thief 2 and loving it. I'm going to do the first Deus Ex next. If you like RPGs I pretty much can recommend anything and everything from Bioware up to amazing DA: Origins (it was downhill from that point on); Anything from Obsidian up until now. Obviously, if you haven't played Fallout 2 you've gotta - it's one of the best games ever made but mind that it's very outdated. Still if you can get past the UI it's full of RGP goodness. Other games I can recommend: -Mafia (2002) -Oddworld (1997) -Kingpin: Life of Crime (1999) -Arcanum (2001) -Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (2004) -Heroes of Might and Magic III (1999) @sword-and-shield True that. I'm almost exclusively watching movies from 80's , 90's and early 2000's (and before). Everything now is just boring, childish, derivative. Zero talent and creativity.
@ love this list! I’ve played origins, Deus ex, thief 1 and 2 but it was a while ago. Played all the fallouts too. I’m going to try some of the games on this list though. I remember oddworld was incredible!
@AVVGaming1 Add Sacrifice to that list. It's a weird 3rd person RTS game by Shiny Entertainment from 2000. Oh yeah, and speaking of Shiny, have you heard of Messiah? I remembered playing a demo of it when I was a little boy and it totally blew my mind. I know they've also made MDK 1&2 which I hear used to be popular but I haven't tried them yet.
I think it doesn't matter what type of female character is used, there is always somebody complaining lol. I'm all for Ciri being the next Witcher. I don't understand being mad about who the main character of any game anyway. I'm there for the whole story and not just one character lol.
I’m surprised about the reaction from a 4 minute cgi trailer to be honest. I didn’t gauge that much from it and just am shocked how many people are upset by it. I would rather wait to see actual gameplay before making assumptions.
Nobody complained in Control, Lara Croft, Horizon(first one), Elf girl in Shadow of Mordor, Samus in Metroid, all the girls in Resident Evil, all the girls in Baldur's Gate. So clearly, it is not the main issue
@@sauromatae9728 So true, most of these people can’t step out of their echo chamber long enough to consider the full argument. It’s not bad to play as Ciri because we did that in 3 a few short times. However, playing as Ciri the Witcher is a travesty and disrespectful to the lore provided by the books.
There’s a lot of anger out there for sure…I am generally surprised at the reaction to the 4 minute clip. I didn’t expect it to be such a big deal to be honest. The gaming community rihht now is really worked up on this whole DEI subject.
Funny how almost all of these "anti-woke" are dunking on this game and Intergalactic but never celebrate Mafia:TOC, which seems to be the most "anti-woke" game in recent memory. Forgive me for seeing a pattern there, I learned a lot from their side.
@AVVGaming1 the majority of these people yelling about “DEI” and “woke” probably don’t even play these games or if they do they’re just tourists. They’re looking for something to complain about.
@ I’ve covered it now for a few videos now and I’m ready to move on. I think there has to be a balance. It’s just crazy because my RUclips feed it full of it.
Ciri is the logical choice for the developers to pick. I understand why and I would happily accept this. But what I don’t understand is that how some people just get upset and prematurely start calling out games for no reason. You cannot just get mad and antagonize Ciri on what she is meant be as a beautiful women. Ciri is born to be a Witcher, it doesn’t matter what the books say about Ciri. And it’s getting to the point where people just blindly hate the games because they have not played it at all or don’t know the game ever and yet just randomly accused them for having female protagonist in there because they want to.
Ciri is born to be a witcher no matter what the books say, what the worldbuilding says. This represents the problem here. She is special on top of being special which is not very good writing
Even if she want to be a witcher she can't it go against the lore of the books and the game. Adults can't take the trails without dying. Children barely survuive if they survived. Plus she is a female the trails would be a gamble of death. So why? why she would be a witcher mutation when she already surpass that with her blood? They broke the lore and threw it out the window that what people angry about and they have every right. Beside do you see how she act in the trailer? She give girlboss vibe where they made A soft feminine character like Ciri acts like a man just to say we have a strong female character.
I'm not mad about playing as ciri. My first thought after the witcher 3 was that I hoped to actually play as ciri. The problem with me are the patterns that cdpr has shown. Embracing esg, and DEI on their website, and even the high likely hood of teaming up with sweet baby inc or an equivalent agency. Obviously we need to wait and see how the game turns out. But if cdpr does work with these companies then they're literally teaming up with people who are on record openly bashing gamers, and have said things like they want to destroy the gaming industry. Giving my money to a studio that works with those type of companies leaves me with a bad taste. I have zero issue with ciri. She's my favorite character aside from Geralt. But I'm also worried about the lore. I'd rather ciri be a witcher in practice rather the physiology and using her elven powers to hunt monsters. It would set her apart from every other witcher that has ever been. Just my opinion on it.
One thing about the CGI cinematic trailers of the past games, those were not in engine, while this is, and rendered in UE5's movie render queue. In several interviews after TGA, CDPR has stated that making this trailer helped set the art style/direction, and I believe with Unreal's new technology that it will look much more like the trailer than the others have before. Think Hellblade 2, but not quite as detailed, and at a much bigger scale, yes it is possible. CDPR have been very engaged in the Unreal community, I've spoken to several of their developers now working in the engine, and they've already give tech talks about performance and optimization.
@@UriahGnu thank you for this comment! Amazing information from that perspective. Have you had a chance to discuss the reaction to Ciri with anyone at CDPR? Surely they cannot have expected a reaction like this. I can’t lol
@AVVGaming1 hi, no the only person I know sort of well at CDPR would only be able to and interested in discussing technical things anyway. Based on the post trailer interviews (SkillUp, IGN, etc) they very much were expecting the reaction, but based on some polls some major channels have conducted suggest the outrage is coming from between 2-5% of the audience (this is about what it always is, 1 in 40 to 1 in 20), while the vast majority of reception is positive to very positive, so I don't think CDPR is worried about it. That said, in my opinion the only thing they need is to pull off the same quality of writing they have become known for and improve the gameplay over W3, and all the anti-female protagonist jibberish will die with a whimper. Thanks for the thoughtful video!
@ no problem thank you for the kind words. Why is is that the 5% is so loud though? They seem to dominate online as my feed is just full of “outrage about Ciri”. My goal is to always be objective and rational in my content. Maybe it’s just for views? Either way, I trust CDPR as they haven’t gotten anything wrong yet, especially with their writing. I thought the trailer perfectly captured the atmosphere and tone I’d want from a Witcher game.
@AVVGaming1 yes, I think that is it. A simple explaination is the algorithm. Complex explaination is negativity gets more engagement than positivity. Back 9+ years ago when the anti-SJW conversation started in gaming, I think the vast majority were engaging mostly in good faith, but it has spiraled out of control, and is no longer about the quality of games, especially writing which matters the most. They see "woman = bad", really as simple as that. Over the past decade we've also seen a massive growth in content creators who stoke this rhetoric and are able to farm engagement and make a living off of it, which I believe is the biggest difference to before and the sad reality. CDPR made a calculated decision, knowing there would be this reaction, and they are sticking by their guns. If anything the anti-woke mob is turning people against them at this point, as I see more rational people calling them out for the Witcher 4 trailer reaction than I thought possible, so that's progress. As an anecdote, several conservative friends who used to call themselves anti-woke and are massive Witcher fans basically just denounced the whole movement, and some content creators are doing the same. Lastly, I do believe that the so called activism the anti-SJW movement was fighting against has no place in entertainment, however their movement has objectively become worse now than what they were fighting against, and also has no place in entertainment. All things must be in balance. 😌Sorry for the text wall.
@ no I appreciate your comment so much because it’s something I’ve been wondering very recently. Do I need to make aggressive negative content to get the views? But I learned that is not an option. Mentally, it would break me and take me to a dark place. People who do thst video after video, it must surely take a toll on their mental health. In the end I decided I would not do that again, unless I really felt that way about a subject. Totally Agree with you, it’s all about balance. Right now the gaming RUclips community has not been a positive place. My goal is to differentiate from that by having a more balanced take.
People loooove to cry. Ciri is an amazing, interesting character. In the past I saw much love for Ciri, but now when things change people are insecure about this just because it changes. Let Geralt enjoy his retirement for gods sakes. Let him be the first to die of old ageand not at the blade of fanatics or a monster
I love The Witcher, I played 100s of hours in Witcher 3 and both DLC getting the platinum and 100%. Geralt was an amazing character to play as and I’m gutted he’s not the main character in Witcher 4, but I can honestly say I don’t mind Ciri being the main character at all, not even 1% does it bother me. People need to relax, Ciri is the next best person after Geralt for us to use. It’s not like she’s some boring character from the last game 🙄 in most of my games I want to play as a male character, but also happy to use Lara Croft in Tomb Raider for example. Give Ciri a chance, I think she’ll be sick the more we get to use her.
I think there’s an argument that it looks better for sure. I mean, she’s a Witcher on the path fighting monsters. She is gonna look more “weathered” isn’t she? She needs to be to survive in this world.
Imo, what raises concern is that the new Ciri just looks very different than in Witcher 3. This isn't about age difference, her jawline is different, nostrils a bit wider and mouth area seems more protruding. You don't change your face structure like that, unless CDPR is, as many fear, following the trend of defeminizing female protagonists. Look at Max Caulfield from LIS 1 and Double Exposure, even with age difference and more mature look, her face structure doesn't change.
Geralt changed significantly due to the vast improvements with the game/graphics engine. Also, he became better looking. Ciri on the other hand, seemingly changed to look more masculine, and not for the better.
@@kerstin1719 Oh yes, other franchises changing to a girlboss did so well. Star Wars Outlaw, the last of us 2. Failguard. Where *are* all these female gamers then?
Neil Druckman destroyed female leads when he had Ellie hate Joel and then spare his killer. Ever since it's been an uphill battle for female characters. Had that game been different people now would be celebrating Ciri as the new protagonist, very much like they celebrated Ellie, back in the days, when it was first announced that she would lead the second game.
I haven’t done a video on tlou pt 2 yet but thst whole story was a mess. It was a case of not only destroying a fan favourite, but then the Ellie revenge story made sense..until we had to play as Abby and help some random person for no reason. I remember enjoying the game for the first half and the second half was just strange. Weird story to be honest.
@AVVGaming1Greetings, not to sound disrespectful, but I and this is strictly speaking what I thought, found nothing weird about Abby's part of story, she did what anyone would have done in her shoes, regarding Joel, the only difference is the choice, and that choice is that we all have to ask ourselves, if someone murdered our loved one, how would we react, would we forgive our killer or exact our revenge, unfortunately for Joel, it was consequences catching up to his actions, as for Witcher 4, I don't mind playing as Ciri, that was expected, but they did age her like 20 years more in my opinion, even-though the Witcher 4 is said to take place several years after the third game Thank you for your video and I hope you and everyone here has a good day/evening
Something i think u get not right, Look at ciris eyes, she have witcher eyes, she drinks witcher potions....they change the lore!!!! They make ciri a witcher, there are no female witcher in the books....female bodies never survived the change to a witcher....and the knowledge how to Perform the Ritual ( or how it really called) is lost!!!! That is the problem i have with the Trailer...is a drastic change of the lore
@@theazhang997 we don’t know exactly how they will explain this yet though. In the books she could take some Witcher positions. She wanted to be a Witcher in the books too. Now I hated the way the books ended. The dude phoned it in in my opinion.
I honestly am wondering how they are going to explain that. Like it goes against everything I know of the Witcher lore. I know they have to explain it because we left Ciri as a non Witcher and now she is suddenly a Witcher. How they gonna write that in is gonna be super interesting lol
If anyone could handle it then it would probably be Ciri, especially if she's able to control her magical powers properly or perhaps find a way to combine the mutations mages undergo with those in the Trials. Of course I couldn't possibly know how exactly, but I believe there could certainly be a way to justify it.
@AVVGaming1 the piont of the trial of grasses is to give the guys some magic. Ciri doesn’t need that because she has her magic from her ancestry. A Witcher needs magic to be able to fight monsters and spirits. So if that magic could be had from a different source does it matter?
To the people concerned with breaking the lore: The games broke the lore the moment they became a thing. They literally break the lore in every single witcher game.
I am sure that Geralt will be in the game and not just as a NPC. Maybe there will be a small number of quests where we play as him. This would flip what Witcher 3 did and there were a small number of quests where we played as Ciri.
It’s bigger than just Ciri. It’s gamers being aware of this broader agenda to push this girl boss slop that nobody wants or buys. That’s why you’re seeing all the pushback against Star Wars, assassins creed, naughty dog games, etc etc.
I mean if they at least made her beautiful as she is described in the books then a lot less people would complain she also sounds like those bodybuilder women who are on a shit ton of steroids
Having Ciri lead makes complete sense. From a character story standpoint it was the best ending to 3. She finally was able to make a choice for herself and she chose to follow the path. No other ending gave her a choice. I think that is a beautiful ending and a fascinating story can be built around her. Give me a good story and relatable protagonist and I can play as male or female. Idc. Just tell me an interesting story.
Yeah but why everyone liked Ciri is because she was very feminine and yet at the same time very powerful. Making masculine females just simply does not work for me and it is stupid. I would play as powerful older blood child feminine Ciri but not some sort aggressive , adopting masculine traits “strong” ex female
No and I’m with you, I totally get your point. I think we have to see the final game first because it will most likely look different. I guess I don’t trust their CGI videos as they look so different to the game in the past, same with Cyberpunk. Do you think these female character changes is actually happening? Or is it just every now and then?
If a girl who looked like Ciri in the trailer asked you out, you’d say yes. It’s a hard, horrible world that witchers live in. I think Ciri not looking 16 anymore is a good choice for the grizzled protagonist we all want to play.
I think Geralt shirtless body full of scar showed the world from a witchers perspective. I do think she’d get hardened over time. And mentally she’d be more aggressive and assertive after dealing with so much ignorance. I thought the trailer captured the dark dangerous world of Witcher I have come to expect.
Depends on the time that has passed many speculate five years. You can't deny that compared to the witcher 3 Ciri, who was 21(not 16) in the witcher 3, is less attractive. I will say that this trailer isn't a gameplay trailer so there is that. AAA game studio are notorious for uglifying there female protagonist so can you blame them for the outrage?
I think the end of the Witcher 3 scene in the best ending, is showing Geralt handing over the baton to his daughter by choice. I am dubious about the fact that Ciri is a fully fledged Witcher since it does break the lore. But on the flip side they could also make the case to have gained the abilities as a Witcher because she is the last surviving descendant of the Elder blood. Maybe there is something that Ciri traded the Elder blood to become a Witcher, since all she could ever do was run from those trying to use her. Kings, Emhyr var Emreis of Nilfgard, and even the meddling sorceresses. Shit, she had a bad life with the Elder blood always running and hiding never having a ‘home’. She was also brutalised as a teenager in the books. It’s certainly doable without unsuspending disbelief. Ciri is a strong woman, so what, women are strong in other ways besides brute strength, and more importantly, besides being a sex toy for unworthy men. I understand why women get so annoyed at objectification. They have been treated so badly since they are half the population. The young Witcher fan boys should realise this. So treating our women with a modicum of respect is not a big ask. If it is then you really need to consider that you wouldn’t even be on this earth if your mother hadn’t bothered to bring you into this world. I really don’t understand the uproar. I have had mixed feelings about the Witcher 4 and its artistic divergence but on this on beautiful intro video there is nothing that makes me leery.
Excited for this game so long as cdpr lives up to their own high standards and doesn't go woke and broke. Don't mind playing Ciri if the writing is solid and besides rather watch a hot woman in action than some grizzled guy any day but what do I know.
I’m on the same page as you. As long as the game is good and it makes sense, I’ll love it. Not bothered about the character. But if they put dodgy writing in it, it’ll upset me lol
*Few people are upset. witcher 4 trailer has 92% like rate, those who know at least more than nothing about witcher lore loved what was shown (doesn't mean the game will be perfect)
The idea that she's manifestly less attractive seems a bit farcical, really. If the swap had been the other way, I think just as many people could have made the same claim.
Honestly I think some people are really over thinking this and just looking for a reason to kick off. I mean it’s just a character. She looked fine to me. I don’t know 🤷 what’s your take in the whole reaction?
Though you aren't wrong about what you say, you miss major points here, some of them: People don't necessarily mind Ciri, they don't even mind her as a practical honorary Witcher that she was in the books and the end of the 3rd game. They would have loved her as a mentor who starts a new school of Witchers or even as Empress (honouring that ending too) who is a patron of Witchers What they mind is them breaking, or at least retconning, lore because she is both a woman and not a child anymore to undergo mutation Again as you say, she is so OP why does she even need to go mutations? Also, because she is so OP either the gameplay must be a boring power fantasy, like they ultimately made of Cyberpunk around Phantom Liberty, or she must be nerfed, which is again unreal, contrived. Finally not just Geralt's, but her story was done too - she literally saved all worlds in all dimensions, how much more do you need? And she has been nerfed and reused a dozen times already in the books and games, the repetition is naturally nauseating now It would have been much better to take a new child character, or one of the existing Witchers or even go back to the time of Alzur and the first creation of Witchers. The most important reason why people are pissed is that this studio now seems to have become lazy in its writing and safe in its choices - this studio created the wonderful Thronebreaker, also a strong female protagonist, also a Queen, they could have done much better
I’m excited that Ciri is the next protagonist. As a female gamer, I enjoy having protagonist that more fits traditional beauty standards. I like seeing the female protagonist as an improved version of myself. It is supposed to be fantasy and escapism after all.
Heres my thing. I like ciri. I do. Shes an awesome character and very powerful. Lets say her elder blood is the reason why she survived becoming a witcher. The thing that confuses me is it is said that a witcher connot use magic. Not in the same way magic users use magic. Witchers have their signs but cant actually use magic. Ciri is a sorceress. A very powerful one at that. And with witcher combat training and knowledge. A force to be reckoned with. So by becoming a witcher wouldnt that cut her off from her magic? Wouldn't she lose all of her powers essentially trading reality bending powers for witcher abilities which are less than what she couod do? She could literally travel through worlds in other dimensions. Now she see tracks and gets a boost in strength sure. Stays younger for longer which she could have achived with magic anyway. Why did she do this? It makes no sense.
I'm fine with Ciri being the main character. But with the current state of the AAA industry, I know that's not all were getting. Instead of just giving us Ciri, an already established and liked character, we're going to get Ciri paired with a "message".
My only complain would be they changed her mouth. I don't understand why they did that, but her mouth is simply not the same, they gave her the typical fat feminist mouth-breather mouth. It's weird.
SOME people are upset but it's not about Geralt vs Ciri it is about male vs female let's just admit it. Boy us guys can be so insecure sometimes. If the game is good I'll play it. If you can't stomach a hot female witcher as your character don't buy it. If cdpr goes full woke then few will buy it. Let's wait and see what we get before condemning it based on speculation.
@@NealeC-f4s I agree 100% with this. It was a 6 minute cgi trailer for a game not out for a few years. It’s far far far too early to make assumptions. We have to wait and then make our decision. Awesome comment!
I have nothing against women or Ciri as a character, and I’m not concerned about her appearance or story. However, for me, role-playing games are about immersing myself in the character, and I’ve always found it harder to play as a female character because I don’t personally identify as one. In games with deep history and lore, it’s more challenging for me to connect with a female protagonist. I also prefer love stories involving women, as it feels more natural for me to role-play as a male character. That’s why I usually choose male characters, it just feels right to me. I was hoping that in future Witcher games, there might be an option to choose between a male or female protagonist, allowing for a more tailored role-playing experience.
the thing is that its not the critics or "woke" audiance thats buying the games and alot of studios push those ideals cause of media acceptance, but in recent years the more things like that happen the more those studios keep getting sold off or going under cause gamers generally arent apart of those audiances. im fine with ciri being a protag but still calling it the witcher feels off since shes technically not one. shes closer to being a witch like yenifer, just one that uses a sword, shed technically also be incapable of consuming witcher potions as most of them are basically just straight poison for non witchers, so theyd need to make a whole diffrent system, that is if they follow their own lore of course. sorry for being a paragraph dude. i like ciri. i suport her being a protag. but again, calling it a witcher game when the main character isnt actually a witcher feels off.
DEI doesn't just "uglyfies" women, it's literally bringing out a less attractive model compared with the female that is playing it in reality, but the whole package that comes with it. You won't have characters that stand apart for what they where, all of the sudden you have all the women written as annoying girl-boss man. In most of the cases where DEI is inserted the quality of the scripts is disastrous, the whole piece becomes "how to pander" not how to make a good believable and impactful story. In the end all will loose, the gamers won't have a game that they hoped for, so they won't buy it and the company will loose, will loose big, some closing the doors, meanwhile the "consulting" companies that inserted that narative, never suffers, they took their millions and they move to the next game, next company to ruin. We've seen this especially in 2023-2024 way too many times. So yea, when we see and uglyfied character, especially one beloved like Ciri, we know already what's coming.
I'm perfectly fine with playing as Ciri. I also realize that this was a pre-rendered trailer, the "in game" model for Ciri hasn't even been created yet as they just entered full production last month on this game. That said, the change in VO is extremely disheartening. This new VO sounds nothing like Ciri. Jo Wyatt being replaced Ciara Berkely when Doug Cockle was kept for Geralt boggles the mind.
"Inability to understand women" made me laugh, althought maybe it wasn't meant to be funny. I understand myself perfectly, as do all female gamers. First playable female video game character is apparently from 1982, back in those days when you could only imagine what those pixels were supposed to look like (thank you, booklet illustrations). I'm writing this for context as many of us have been gamers since we were kids. No 100% males. Sorry..? I don't get this fixation with character looks. By that logic I wouldn't watch a movie starring someone I didn't find desirable or even play Zelda games because I'd never date a guy with pointy ears. It's the writing that makes the character. The exterior might or might not be to your liking, but it shouldn't be what makes a character interesting. Oh yeah, Ciri. Shut up, she's gorgeous.
Ciri will make a great main character and she looks just fine in the trailer. She looks like she is capable - and she still looks attractive to me. All that said if DEI is pushed in games like other entertainment mediums then the market will speak and the games won't sell. So the question is not about Ciri necessarily but is the game going to be about a DEI preachy girl boss or will she be true to the character. If its the later give her a chance and I think it will be a great game. If the former the game deserves to fail.
I agree people do age just to the same degree as a Witcher or lady of space and time my main issue is the lore breaking can really care less if she is old older or slightly ugly
Some gamers seem to want to play as a female character who is a teenager. Other choices: Geralt (my favorite) but you’re breaking lore from Blood and Wine (he’s retired.) Make your own Witcher- breaking lore as their aren’t new Witchers. Existing Witchers, Letho, Eskel or Lambert, so it’s okay to play as an ugly guy (and depending on your choices two out of three could be dead.). If you think any of the existing Witchers are attractive…you might consider why you aren’t getting dates (but Letho is rocking some arms.) Does Ciri break lore, sure but so would any Witcher 4 (as do 1-3 too since Geralt is dead in the books) Give me a game as good as Witcher 3 and I’ll be fine.
While everyone does have a right to an opinion, one based on ignorance can be called incorrect. The model for Ciri in this trailer is OBJECTIVELY beautiful, also objectively NOT the hyper feminine stereotype.
CDPR is a rich sophisticated company, they showed us exactly the image they wanted us to see. They knew the association with activism and the backlash that would occur. This is a red flag that they have bowed down to the activists. That said, I hope this is not true and want to play a good witcher game with Ciri as the main charachter.
I don’t know what the actual stats are but when you say the player base is now 50/50 male and female, I can say from my personal experience that is not the case at all. Every single male I grew up with has played and continues to play video games owning consoles and PC’s, every one of them. On the contrary, virtually none of the girls I grew up with could have been or be considered gamers, with literally zero of them owning PCs or consoles beyond ones that have been left behind by old boyfriends.
I think you hit the nail on the head, Ciri was always going to be the protagonist at some point it was inevitable and personally, I don't see that much of a problem with her character design. With that said though I can see why people jump to this conclusion based on pattern recognition of previous trends in gaming as well as constant gaslighting and actual hatred for gamers from devs and political activists. While yes, nuance at the end of the day is up to the individual and there are some people that are indeed very radicalized when to comes to these topics but, I don't think its untrue to say that the AAA gameing industry in the west based on actual evidence of forced DEI initiatives is what radicalized these people in the first place.
Probably because new ciri in witcher 4 doesn't look like ciri in witcher 3. Ciri in witcher 3 is beautiful Ciri in witcher 4 is DOESN'T look like Ciri! I understand it's an older version facial bone structure doesn't change the older you get it stays the same part from that trailer looks good & I really don't mind ciri becoming a witcher it's come full circle
I havent played Witcher games as I tend to prefer first person games. With those it is a bit less important what/who the protagonist is or looks like. I do, however, dislike the forced inclusion of 'thought policies' in any game and believe it is being done as an agenda.
I know they said geralt's saga was over, but they also said they were done with the witcher for the foreseeable future. So when they decided to make another witcher, they had the perfect character waiting for them. Hell I wouldn't have minded if ciri had a part to play in it too. But playing an entire game as a female character? not really something I like. There is a big difference between liking ciri as a character and wanting to play as ciri for an entire game. I hoped they would be creative and show us a new school with a brand new witcher somewhere else, rather than breaking the lore (or coming up with some asinine scenario that justifies ciri becoming a witcher) just to get their female witcher protagonist. Plus why is it that every game with a male protagonist has to switch to a female one? Why does it never go the opposite way? this last year every single new IP that has come out has a female protagonist. in some cases it is an established IP that switched from male to female.
Dude, I kind of suspect you've probably never read the books, but she's basically the second main character already in the books. They are literally - especially those five novels - sometimes unofficially called "The Saga of Geralt and Ciri" because honestly, even those books weren't always "his story" as much as "their story" and she has more space in there than Geralt does at times (especially in terms of impact on the story and character development). If you don't want to play as her, that's your business, but objectively, if I can think of one brand where this change makes sense, it's The Witcher - it couldn't be more natural. Unfortunately - apparently everything today is a "political statement".
@@marty.m2933 I've read all the books several times over. That has nothing to do with this. I like ciri as a character, but i don't want to play a game as her. But if you want to feel cool and special for having read the books, fine, I've never read them and you are just really special.
@@simonphoenix3789 Any particular reason why you are acting like a offended child? I mention the books because it just seemed from your comment that you only know the Witcher as a game, so I have to give you some context as to why I don't find anything strange in this particular change. If you don't want to play for her anyway, that's your thing - as I mentioned.
I think she look just different enough that it feels like it's not the same person. Bigger cheeks and lips, lighter eyebrows and dark eyes, slightly less pointy nose, different shaped eyes... together it makes her feel like a diferent person.
The reason why I am upset is because I didn't like the gameplay as Ciri. I wanted a new character to take the mantle of The Witcher in a new conflict. Ciri being turned into an actual witcher ruins the lore. It was said that women couldn't go through the trial. The retcon is really huge with this one. I wouldn't want to create my own character either because part of the appeal of TW3 was experiencing the story as a tailor-made protagonist. I wish the best to CDPR but I will not be playing this game.
A number of guys don't play female action games. Not all but some. Been that way forever. The biggest issue is the trailer shows she has been through the trail of grass ..maybe it was misleading..crazy right! She was working as a Witcher, maybe she developed non Witcher potions, magics etc If the game is her recovering the trail of grass and settling a new school. That's cool plot. Please don't have her go through a trail of grass off screen and now have Witcher magics mixed with elder blood powers without the player earning it....that's just OP.
Ciri can't survive the Trial of the Grasses, as per canon, since no woman ever survived it. Ciri renounced ordinary magic and couldn't cast spells (if she somehow became a witcher, she can't use magic other than signs, as per canon as well). She also spent much too short a time in Kaer Morhen to be a full-fledged witcher, because it's a 13 years long learning process starting at the age of 7. Since she can't go through the Trial, alchemy won't work on her either. She was a great character thanks to her clumsiness, naïvity and reliance on others, and thanks to her girliness as well. Now she became a boy with boobs and it's disgusting. Also, her looks are wrong. If she is a witcher, why did she age? If she isn't - why is she so much uglier and battered?
If you have to question all these things and get into debates as to why this lore breaking thing can make sense or not, don’t implement it into the game. If you’re having to make up more and more inventive ways as to why is can work, perhaps the idea should be just left at that. People need to step back and instead of asking “can we do this thing?” - it’s a work of fiction in a video game and they can do anything - they should stop and ask “should we do this thing?” No problem with Ciri being the protagonist - it’s obvious where the series was going. It’s she should have stayed an adoptive Witcher using her elder blood for powers. Not taking the Trial of the Grasses - which Geralt or Yen wouldn’t have allowed. That’s my two pence worth.
Her story was finished. They lived happily ever after. We had a perfect closure. Why destroy something perfect when anything else would have been better? Because cash is more important than principles.
I dont mind that its Ciri (Even tho id prefer Geralt). And I understand why people dislike the new look of Ciri (Even tho its not horrible in my eyes). I think what is finally happening is the 180 on everything woke. People are going into the other extreme if there is even the slightest chance that anything woke is happening. And Ciri looking older or a bit more masculine is causing this. Not surprising, for the last 2 decades the left mob has done everything in its power to destroy as many bellowed IP's as possible. And naturally people has gone in the opposite direction in full revolt.
4:55 Ciri is a real Witcher now, she underwent the mutations. You can see her cat eyes in the trailer, she drank a Witcher potion, she used a Witcher sign, and there’s an interview with the game director where he said she successfully completed the trial of the grasses. I don’t think she has those OP Elder abilities, like teleporting, that she used in W3 anymore. We’ll find out how it happened in the game.
She'd die if she tried to mutate. Also, none of the witchers whlould agree to out her through this torture. If Ciri is really a witcher, then devs clearly do not understand their material
@@BRR42922 she’s a Witcher. You can whine and complain all you want, it is what it is. Just because no girl survived the trial yet doesn’t mean it’s impossible forever. No, I didn’t like RoP, but just because I can’t stand bad writing doesn’t mean I also complain about a woman being the protagonist.
If the negative reaction seems excessive, it’s because the reaction is not solely due to this games portrayal of Ciri, the reaction is due to an ongoing trend of uglification of female protagonist. It’s not just about looks either, for some reason recently, female protagonist are constantly being written to be insufferable, selfish, angry and vengeful with all kinds of trauma and just the worst resulting qualities. It’s just bad writing. Good characters are admirable because they are virtuous despite their trauma. It’s like really basic but we see so many unlikable characters recently. Think LT Dan vs Forest Gump. Ones trauma has made him ugly, the others has made him a subject of admiration. So the trailer was not that bad, but it hints at a continuation of a trend that is bad. That’s what people are reacting to.
You know deep down, along with the fans that it's not about any lore breaking or anything like that... That can be "explained" at least well enough that most gamers will swallow that very bitter pill. The reason why Ciri might not work as a Witcher is that you cannot tell a story about masculinity, being isolated, shunned by society, lack of family and stoicism with a female as a lead in this setting. Those are overarching topics of the books AND games and you as a fan would think that's all by accident? That they just forgot to mention the fact that women can become witchers too? That it just slipped the author's mind throughout all the books and hundereds of hours of play and now you can exploit that mistake? It's so obviously fake that CDPR even tries to convince us, that because they perhaps are fighting some norms, standards. When in reality it's easy brand recognition and a protag with a V and white hair on the cover. And who's sx-ist now? I already dislike the trailer... Ciri the special child who stopped the White Frost just by being herself now in the shoes of a lone melancholic professional who deals with cruelty and wrongdoings of humankind by painful means. Everything's the same except that she's more angry and idealistic (perhaps even nihilistic)? We'll see. And possibly we won't get the same sense of humor as ladies don't make good stand up comedians usually, sorry, so expect non of the dry but witty responses like the ones we're used to.
@ZaZaSamariter that they've throwing away all respect they had while making previous games, they would take a motive from the books and made a different setup out of it but it was still acceptable. Now they throw this approach into the garbage and that's just something that can't be so easily ignored. If you're a fan of the franchise and not just the product then you'll be one that talks about it in length instead of just turning away from discussion because you got a shiny new toy. That's why it's a bitter thing to swallow, disguised as whatever else that was their motivator.
Also people are acting like 50 milion copies sold because Ciri was the main focus all along and they miss everything I've talked about in that post. In search of new audience they've already divided us in half. It's a reality so easy to understand. Ciri deserves her own game maybe like DMC style or Bayoneta.
@justaquietpeacefuldance i get the point but what do you expect. In the books geralt was about to quit the craft at least once so that hes now in retirement makes sense. I also understand, why people are upset over the fact that ciri is now a witcher. In the books, as far as i understood ciri wasnt a huge fan of her role as "the cosen one" and had an interest in the craft of monster hunting in general. Im also aware that no women ever survived the trials of the grasses but that doesnt men that its impossibel if you improve the trials or maby use a different kink from a different school. Triss and yennefer could supported her too during those trials so im not totally offended by this
I'm not interested in talk about lore, have you read my post? Because you're responding to it I'd like to assume you did, yet I can't. It's right at the beginning. They're changing the franchise for the worse and instead of honouring Ciri by putting her in her own game they're just putting her in Geralt's armour. Did you see the resemblance? Did you catch the quote at the end? Well, Ciri could have her own game. If you want to know, Ciri left the Continent for good at the end of the books, they could've put her in any universe they wanted. It's such a missed opportunity that it's painful to watch. And all the stans, streamers, reactors are just overjoyed because their favourite character is getting modern treatment. It's cowardly really to cheer on with them and not speak up against this treatment of Ciri. I hope you get my point even further.
I love your videos but i don't agree with the way you phrased it "Why people are so upset with Witcher 4" because the percentage of dislikes to likes on the trailer was LESS THAN 10%! Compare it to Intergalactic, (An ACTUAL WOKE GARBAGE & Naughty's Dogsh1t) which 2/5 times (150%) of people have disliked compared to liked. The Witcher IV backlash (Even though there are some exceptions regarding people who have valid concerns regarding the lore ) is 95% these groups: -People who were so Not following the information that actually expected and old bent Geralt that can barely piss -People who expected some other guy because they genuinely hate women (and some who only hate PLAYING AS women in video games) -Woke people who say that Ciri's Ugly to make anti-woke people like us seem stupid -People who are actually so reet are dead that actually believe she's ugly now
I had no problem with how Ciri looked, and I prefer to play female characters anyway. Frankly, I'm tired of the antiwoke mob just like I'm tired of the woke mob. I wish they would both shut up and go away.
Ciri in Witcher 3 in most angles doesn’t even look real, even though you can say the model is “pretty” she looks far more realistic in this trailer and making her a hyper feminine stereotype would make it look worst under that art style
While i dislike the uglification of female characters in the context of the Witchers world it makes sense that people age poorly. I always assumed she would be the next main character. I am not especially woke though
I have seen a lot of this recently with games. I don’t think the 4 minute clip is enough for us to determine what the end product will look like. But we have definitely seen a trend of making female characters less…er…female? lol
In all the Wicther books, the trial of the grasses killed ALL women. This is why they stopped giving the potions for the trials to young girls because they all died. And less than 10% of young boys survived. Children were chosen over adults as their bodies were more adaptable to such mutagenic changes. CDPR stated in an interview that Ciri went through the trial of the grasses and is now a Witcher for this game. They should have just called the game "Ciri" or "Witcher: a New Beginning"... that would have been a better start. But the game really will have to explain why Ciri, as an adult woman, could ever become a witcher. That has to be shown in the game as to how this happened. Her having elder blood would be cool. Maybe a new method was created to create witchers, but new witchers maybe different from the originals. Kind of like Spartan II's vs Spartan IV's. But the new lore has to be explained and shown, one way or another. Because in recent years a majority of games have gone the girl boss route and failed miserably. Ciri being the main character is not the issue. But for now, from this trailer, she comes of as a tokenized version of Geralt. A 'what if" Geralt was a woman. That does such a disservice to Geralt and the Witcher as a whole. So hopefully she is witcher that was created via a new method but is more a hybrid, or something like that. I would have much rather her elevate her eleven powers and user her magic in a way to mimic witcher abilities and skills. Skills built upon the teachings and training of Vesimir and Geralt. Without the need to go through the trial of the grasses. Now that would have been something unique. But no, .... so I will just wait and see.
@@BRR42922 Then CDPR will really have to give a very amazing in world explanation on how this was done, unless they want to risk breaking the world of the witcher by breaking the lore. Star Wars did not survive that move.
I really can't understand people who say that Ciri is uglier now. I think she's beautiful, maybe because I'm not that young anymore, but I find older women more attractive than younger ones.
You’re making mom happy.
she was never a beauty
They said in 2013 is Geralt last game I agree for Ciri to continue the saga
@@ZaricheYruga I think it makes the most sense! The thing that has caught my attention is her eyes! When she drinks the potion! They are definitely different from anything I’ve seen from her before! I think there’s some Witcher in her! What do you think?

Anyone that loves the books wants to play as ciri or the majority do I'd say. @AVVGaming1

I think that would have been pretty sick and the way they did it with cyberpunk shows they can do it. Imagine, making your own Witcher then doing the trials etc. that would have been so sick!
It's not happening. You've got Elder Scrolls for that.
@@Conorp77 Ah yes the, objectively inferior RPG with dated engine, graphics, and gameplay.

They’re already doing another Witcher game with a custom character. They’ve got 3 games they’re working on for the Witcher IP: Witcher 4, Witcher 1 Remake, and a game where we create our own Witcher.
I fully expected Ciri to be the main protagonist in Witcher IV…but as Ciri, not as a Witcher.
defeats purpose of the title
The canon ending of Witcher 3 ciri loses her powers and becomes a Witcher
@@Carolina3489Panthers Did she lose her powers after stopping the white frost? When did they mention that? Can you link a video that proves that? That would change almost nothing because females can’t become Witchers and adults can’t become Witchers. So with those two strikes against her, and your claim of no powers, how does it happen?
Imagine she becomes a full witcher at the end. Title would be a lot more fitting.
@ she does
Ciri is a great character and all but I don’t wanna play as her. Gonna pass on this one unfortunately.
A hard pass for me too.

Yea. Lost me on this one. I was so excited. Now? Not so much
Maybe you'll change your mind when it gets critical acclaim.
N E ways, bye!
i'm more hyped about The Witcher 1 remake, and now with kingdom deliverance 2
Mannn! I’m doing a second video today and guess what it’s about! kCd2!!! And it’s called “why kcd2 will change gaming forever!” It’ll be up in less than 4 hours! I already got it recorded just doing the final edit! Now I’m really hyped to get it up! Thanks for this comment!
@AVVGaming1 Your video are always good, thx 4 your work bro
No problem! I’m doing the KcD2 one now and I’m so stoked about it!
Facts!
thats slowly changing for anything but shooters and i don't really see whats the big issue, having a female protag doesn't make something woke, there was nothing about this trailer that even whispered "woke" to me.
Incels gonna incel unfortunately. I dont get it...
@@angrymoth2they had to stop training her because she was literally killing herself.
I just want a side quest were ciri meets up with the bloody baron. Just to see how he is and if his wife is okay. I have always saved her in my gameplays.
A man that would be so sick! Can you imagine? He was an example of a very well written character. He did so many messed up things, but I still liked him. I felt his pain,
His struggle.
Ciri i had never a doubt that she would be the next main character and so is she...i hope its a good game and until then i just have to wait n see
Personally, I never found Geralt or Ciri particularly interesting characters and hoped CD Project Red would let us play as a costumed or original witcher character. As an RPG lover, I think using an established character would only limit our decision-making options in the game. Ciri already has a very clear personality and a set of moral values, making it hard for us to make decisions that don't match those characteristics.
I'm looking forward to the witcher 4 and I'll wait and see how Ciri will look in game, until then I'm not going to start arguing about her looks.
I start to hate anti-woke people because of sexist in it.
Unless they changed her a lot in the 2nd game (I have yet to get to that game.. as a father I don't get to play a lot.. and I have a locked list of games that I play through in order that I put the game on the list.)
I would also like to point out that the vibe I get from the books (I have not read them all yet) - Its Ciri who is the "real" main character.. and we just experience her journey through Gerald as a mentor.. not to mention that in the second book I recall death literally saying that she will take his soul if he does not take the path fait has been trying to push him down 4 times.. with each denial having a precaution.
I mean. If they made her a beautiful young 21 y.o. with perfect skin.. that can fight as well as Gerald.. she would just be a Mary Sue like Ray and Captain America and people would complain about that xD
Idk..
@@Pårchmēntôs Yeah... I find that minority to be immensely hypocritic.
So the only argument I can get is in lore witchers are only men due to the experiments done and women didn’t survive them
Hear me out one ending Ciri became a Witcher. I would love the twist Ciri decided to follow in geralts footsteps but add the twist of instead of undergoing the men Witcher mutation she used her knowledge of magic and witchers with her friends used her power added it to that to find her own unique Witcher mutation. She could use all her skills to fill the voids a traditional Witcher has from mutations
This could add really cool lore and quests to complet her unique Witcher transformation
‘Keep an open mind and give it a chance first’ that’s a step too far my good friend 😂

@@panwu6602 do you have one you could recommend? In fact do you have a few? Most likely I’ve played a lot of them lol
Correct, and it even extends beyond gaming.
Other games I can recommend:
-Mafia (2002)
-Oddworld (1997)
-Kingpin: Life of Crime (1999)
-Arcanum (2001)
-Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (2004)
-Heroes of Might and Magic III (1999)
@sword-and-shield True that.
What did they call Oliver in New Vegas?
“General wait and see”, so I guess we’ll wait and see how things pan out.
God I love New Vegas
@@BRR42922 Dude, Witcher 3 in general is already a massive travesty and disrespect to the original lore...

There’s a lot of anger out there for sure…I am generally surprised at the reaction to the 4 minute clip. I didn’t expect it to be such a big deal to be honest. The gaming community rihht now is really worked up on this whole DEI subject.
@AVVGaming1 Or people are just not bright at all
Funny how almost all of these "anti-woke" are dunking on this game and Intergalactic but never celebrate Mafia:TOC, which seems to be the most "anti-woke" game in recent memory.
She give girlboss vibe where they made A soft feminine character like Ciri acts like a man just to say we have a strong female character.
oh lord..
As someone who have never played any of the Witcher games... I have no opinion
@@OsinakiKun haha lol probably the best person to be right now lol you can just chill out whilst everyone else debates it lol
It was very obvious the were moving forward with ciri.
I assumed it would either be her or a create your own Witcher story. But I was definitely not surprised when they announced Ciri. Makes the most sense
I'm truly surprised this is even controversial at all.
It’s not a ciri problem, forget those ppl that have a problem with her. It’s the DEI nonsense that plagues games that worries me
@@goonagun What DEI? You only want to see white dudes? You know there's brown people out there over the horizon yes?

i like her more in that trailer then in witcher 3
I think there’s an argument that it looks better for sure. I mean, she’s a Witcher on the path fighting monsters. She is gonna look more “weathered” isn’t she? She needs to be to survive in this world.
Why?
Imo, what raises concern is that the new Ciri just looks very different than in Witcher 3. This isn't about age difference, her jawline is different, nostrils a bit wider and mouth area seems more protruding. You don't change your face structure like that, unless CDPR is, as many fear, following the trend of defeminizing female protagonists. Look at Max Caulfield from LIS 1 and Double Exposure, even with age difference and more mature look, her face structure doesn't change.
Truth.
Geralt has changed significantly in each game, too.
The changes to ciri aren't any different.
Geralt changed significantly due to the vast improvements with the game/graphics engine. Also, he became better looking. Ciri on the other hand, seemingly changed to look more masculine, and not for the better.
If it's 50/50 then this game will sell just fine... If it's not really 50/50... If we exclude phone and tablet gamers, what is left?
I don't play on my phone or tablet so that leaves at least me and the other 25%.
That was the point of the character development. Part 2 was based on blind hate as part 1 was based on blind love.
@AVVGaming1Greetings, not to sound disrespectful, but I and this is strictly speaking what I thought, found nothing weird about Abby's part of story, she did what anyone would have done in her shoes, regarding Joel, the only difference is the choice, and that choice is that we all have to ask ourselves, if someone murdered our loved one, how would we react, would we forgive our killer or exact our revenge, unfortunately for Joel, it was consequences catching up to his actions, as for Witcher 4, I don't mind playing as Ciri, that was expected, but they did age her like 20 years more in my opinion, even-though the Witcher 4 is said to take place several years after the third game
Thank you for your video and I hope you and everyone here has a good day/evening

They make ciri a witcher, there are no female witcher in the books....female bodies never survived the change to a witcher....and the knowledge how to Perform the Ritual ( or how it really called) is lost!!!! @@theazhang997 maybe her elder blood makes her hardier....🤔 we'll have to see what explanation the writers give, in the end....
Yeah and I bloody hated them.
Cant wait.. though I probably will have too. Loved the work you did with the story.
Exactly, not to mention it doesn't make ANY sense for her to have the witcher eyes in the trailer, not respecting their own lore is a huge redflag.

Assasins creed isn’t ass because of wahmen its ass because the games are absolute ass

How is she masculine? Have you never met a woman before?
If they remake witcher 1 with more side quest and bigger map would've been an applause around the world
😂 let’s see if they can make their dev budget back. Doubt this girlboss manjaw slop is gonna be able to sell millions
NO I WOULD NOT TOUCH THAT CIRI WITH A STICK
Depends on the time that has passed many speculate five years. You can't deny that compared to the witcher 3 Ciri, who was 21(not 16) in the witcher 3, is less attractive. I will say that this trailer isn't a gameplay trailer so there is that. AAA game studio are notorious for uglifying there female protagonist so can you blame them for the outrage?
Lol no
@@SemperValorYea you like men
I think the end of the Witcher 3 scene in the best ending, is showing Geralt handing over the baton to his daughter by choice.
Though you aren't wrong about what you say, you miss major points here, some of them:
People don't necessarily mind Ciri, they don't even mind her as a practical honorary Witcher that she was in the books and the end of the 3rd game. They would have loved her as a mentor who starts a new school of Witchers or even as Empress (honouring that ending too) who is a patron of Witchers
What they mind is them breaking, or at least retconning, lore because she is both a woman and not a child anymore to undergo mutation
Again as you say, she is so OP why does she even need to go mutations?
Also, because she is so OP either the gameplay must be a boring power fantasy, like they ultimately made of Cyberpunk around Phantom Liberty, or she must be nerfed, which is again unreal, contrived.
Finally not just Geralt's, but her story was done too - she literally saved all worlds in all dimensions, how much more do you need?
And she has been nerfed and reused a dozen times already in the books and games, the repetition is naturally nauseating now
It would have been much better to take a new child character, or one of the existing Witchers or even go back to the time of Alzur and the first creation of Witchers.
And you know this how?
@NealeC-f4s It's more suspicion than anything. But I mean come on, have you not bought games or watched any movies these past few years?
I was hoping that in future Witcher games, there might be an option to choose between a male or female protagonist, allowing for a more tailored role-playing experience.
the thing is that its not the critics or "woke" audiance thats buying the games and alot of studios push those ideals cause of media acceptance, but in recent years the more things like that happen the more those studios keep getting sold off or going under cause gamers generally arent apart of those audiances. im fine with ciri being a protag but still calling it the witcher feels off since shes technically not one. shes closer to being a witch like yenifer, just one that uses a sword, shed technically also be incapable of consuming witcher potions as most of them are basically just straight poison for non witchers, so theyd need to make a whole diffrent system, that is if they follow their own lore of course. sorry for being a paragraph dude. i like ciri. i suport her being a protag. but again, calling it a witcher game when the main character isnt actually a witcher feels off.
so The Witcher Ciri is the same as Star Wars' Rey ??
What? A voice of reason, on the INTERNET? Impossibe...
@@iam4082 haha I’m trying! Not sure if a voice is reason is the most loved option though! lol
Thank you by the way!
4:27 reboot Lara is terrible and max is a cringe tumblr character 12:24 wrong
Other choices:
Geralt (my favorite) but you’re breaking lore from Blood and Wine (he’s retired.)
Make your own Witcher- breaking lore as their aren’t new Witchers.
Existing Witchers, Letho, Eskel or Lambert, so it’s okay to play as an ugly guy (and depending on your choices two out of three could be dead.). If you think any of the existing Witchers are attractive…you might consider why you aren’t getting dates (but Letho is rocking some arms.)
Does Ciri break lore, sure but so would any Witcher 4 (as do 1-3 too since Geralt is dead in the books)
Give me a game as good as Witcher 3 and I’ll be fine.
While everyone does have a right to an opinion, one based on ignorance can be called incorrect.
The model for Ciri in this trailer is OBJECTIVELY beautiful, also objectively NOT the hyper feminine stereotype.
Sincerely, wokeness will destroy the gaming industry.
Hopefully KDC2 and games with similar minded devs will survive and bring us great games.
“I'll ruin your mythos in a minute, baby.“ - Cdpr😅
Problem is Ciri is too OP as a protagonist because of her powers.
I havent played Witcher games as I tend to prefer first person games. With those it is a bit less important what/who the protagonist is or looks like. I do, however, dislike the forced inclusion of 'thought policies' in any game and believe it is being done as an agenda.
I just wanted to play as Letho…
Sounds like it's time for you to embrace your feminine side.
She was working as a Witcher, maybe she developed non Witcher potions, magics etc
If the game is her recovering the trail of grass and settling a new school.
People need to step back and instead of asking “can we do this thing?” - it’s a work of fiction in a video game and they can do anything - they should stop and ask “should we do this thing?”
No problem with Ciri being the protagonist - it’s obvious where the series was going.
Thronebreaker doesn't have Geralt as the mc
I dont mind that its Ciri (Even tho id prefer Geralt). And I understand why people dislike the new look of Ciri (Even tho its not horrible in my eyes). I think what is finally happening is the 180 on everything woke. People are going into the other extreme if there is even the slightest chance that anything woke is happening. And Ciri looking older or a bit more masculine is causing this.
Not surprising, for the last 2 decades the left mob has done everything in its power to destroy as many bellowed IP's as possible. And naturally people has gone in the opposite direction in full revolt.
It's not Ciri, but Geralt with wigs
4:55 Ciri is a real Witcher now, she underwent the mutations. You can see her cat eyes in the trailer, she drank a Witcher potion, she used a Witcher sign, and there’s an interview with the game director where he said she successfully completed the trial of the grasses. I don’t think she has those OP Elder abilities, like teleporting, that she used in W3 anymore. We’ll find out how it happened in the game.
She'd die if she tried to mutate. Also, none of the witchers whlould agree to out her through this torture. If Ciri is really a witcher, then devs clearly do not understand their material
@@sauromatae9728 Exactly!

They sad the the new game would not be Witcher 4.
Whats bitter about this. I have seen way more unlogicsl bs in the games
The Witcher IV backlash (Even though there are some exceptions regarding people who have valid concerns regarding the lore ) is 95% these groups:
-People who were so Not following the information that actually expected and old bent Geralt that can barely piss
-People who expected some other guy because they genuinely hate women (and some who only hate PLAYING AS women in video games)
-Woke people who say that Ciri's Ugly to make anti-woke people like us seem stupid
-People who are actually so reet are dead that actually believe she's ugly now
I had no problem with how Ciri looked, and I prefer to play female characters anyway.
But we have definitely seen a trend of making female characters less…er…female? lol
Because they're utter bellends mops a hell of a lot of them up.
Her blood wouldn’t allow the transformation.
@@BRR42922 Then CDPR will really have to give a very amazing in world explanation on how this was done, unless they want to risk breaking the world of the witcher by breaking the lore. Star Wars did not survive that move.
