It always makes my day when I see that you two have uploaded a new video!!! I cannot wait to go crabbing in Maryland. They say there are 2 seasons there, crab season, and, waiting for crab season!!
I really love y’all’s videos every time I watch them they make me smile. I’m so happy to see you guys enjoying your retirement lives I hope soon I can do the same.
We have that same pot set-up, it came from our canning set we bought years ago, and now we have something else we can do with it steam seafood. I took a swim off that floating dock, the broken one that rocks, reached to far out after a big crab and the dock shifted and in i went lol. Be careful on that one
There are a lot of places where there are mostly female crabs and you hardly ever catch a male. I don't want people to feel bad if they take their kids or grandkids crabbing and they keep a legal female crab when it's been proven that it doesn't hurt the crab population, you can research it, just Google the report on keeping female blue crabs from the Smithsonian environmental research center. @@TheOldCoupleOutdoors Thank you for the reply. I'm trying to round out my crabbig tools and am needing a scoop net with an extra long handle...around 7' to 8'. Where did you find your scoop net?

I enjoy watching you guys crabbing. I'm from Maryland and we prepare our crabs a bit different than you. I stopped watching the part where you do the cooking cuz I can't stand to watch someone throw away the best part of the crab..lol You always seem to follow the rules protecting the crabs. That's a good thing. I know you don't have much in the way of rules protecting females but it would be in your best interest to put the females back in the water. They certainly keep them. I wonder if it's because it's believed that people who do it for a living understand which females have and have not laid eggs yet?
@@n_baileyname2698Blue crab female will mate only one time. What is unique is she will carry the male semen throughout her life allowing her to spawn multiple times. Blue crabs can live 3 to 4 years. They can grow as large as 9 inches with males sometimes larger. If you let a female go to about 6 or 6 and 1/2 inches it will ensure that she has spawned at least two to three times. The benefits are more crabs in the water and nothing like eating a big fat female crab.. 😂
According to the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, targeting just male blue crabs actually hurts the population of blue crabs. They did a study on it. We very rarely keep a crab under 6 inches. We cook blue crabs several different ways because we have viewers from different parts of the country where they cook them different ways, and we enjoy trying them. As far as keeping females, there are places like Daytona, FL. Where you rarely catch a male crab, so it you were to take your children or grandchildren crabbing, they probably would never catch any crab to take home even though it's legal (not much fun). Must everyone will keep a female fish because it's hard to tell the difference, but almost anyone can tell the difference between a male and a female blue crab even though the fish population might be in more danger. We show people how to clean their blue crabs so if the happen to live in an area where the water is polluted, they won't get sick. It happened to me years ago. Right after that, the state recommended that you clean your blue crabs because most of the toxins are in the guts. Thanks for watching our videos
