    I love the way Sam fixed the hole in his trap instead of folks now a days just throw it away and buy a new one. Good job Sam. Us older folks, I'm 72, fix our own stuff even if we can buy new stuff. Lots of the older stuff is better quality than new stuff. Great video Sam and Joyce!!

      @TheOldCoupleOutdoors  6 месяцев назад

      There are a lot of places where there are mostly female crabs and you hardly ever catch a male. I don't want people to feel bad if they take their kids or grandkids crabbing and they keep a legal female crab when it's been proven that it doesn't hurt the crab population, you can research it, just Google the report on keeping female blue crabs from the Smithsonian environmental research center. me again. so, as someone, that saw my hubby and his mom get skin cancer a few times, may i suggest that you get yourselves checked, as i noticed some odd looking marks on his arms and maybe the face..
    i cant just say sit by and say nothing.. skin cancer is so easily stopped. ok, i will be quiet now. 😊❤

      Gail thanks for your concern. I get checked at least twice a year. So far I've had 10 surgeries and hundreds of pre cancer lesions frozen. I started working on fishing boats when I was 10 years old 7 days a week. The sun screen wasn't invented yet so I would constantly burn. The other marks are bruises because I'm careless and always banging my arms on something. Lol. Always nice hearing from you

      @@TheOldCoupleOutdoors wow, well, im so glad you get the 2x year check up. once i got my hubby on vit d3 and zinc daily, he has not had any cancers or even pre cancers in many years. i found out thats a great cancer fighter as well as virus fighter. :-)

    I enjoy watching you guys crabbing. I'm from Maryland and we prepare our crabs a bit different than you. I stopped watching the part where you do the cooking cuz I can't stand to watch someone throw away the best part of the crab..lol
    You always seem to follow the rules protecting the crabs. That's a good thing. I know you don't have much in the way of rules protecting females but it would be in your best interest to put the females back in the water. Blue crabs are in decline along the Gulf Coast and Florida. Don't wait for science and conservation to catch up to the problem. Establishing your own rule to take females a minimum of 6 inches would allow her a few good years of spawning.
    But above all, enjoy your time crabbing and fishing. And thanks for sharing with us 🙏🤗

      Don't crabs only lay eggs one time? It's the premature females that you should toss back. Of course, we crab in Maryland as well, so all females must go back, unless you're commercial crabbing. They certainly keep them. I wonder if it's because it's believed that people who do it for a living understand which females have and have not laid eggs yet?

      @@n_baileyname2698Blue crab female will mate only one time. What is unique is she will carry the male semen throughout her life allowing her to spawn multiple times. Blue crabs can live 3 to 4 years. They can grow as large as 9 inches with males sometimes larger. If you let a female go to about 6 or 6 and 1/2 inches it will ensure that she has spawned at least two to three times. The benefits are more crabs in the water and nothing like eating a big fat female crab.. 😂

      According to the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, targeting just male blue crabs actually hurts the population of blue crabs. They did a study on it. We very rarely keep a crab under 6 inches. We cook blue crabs several different ways because we have viewers from different parts of the country where they cook them different ways, and we enjoy trying them. As far as keeping females, there are places like Daytona, FL. Where you rarely catch a male crab, so it you were to take your children or grandchildren crabbing, they probably would never catch any crab to take home even though it's legal (not much fun). Must everyone will keep a female fish because it's hard to tell the difference, but almost anyone can tell the difference between a male and a female blue crab even though the fish population might be in more danger. We show people how to clean their blue crabs so if the happen to live in an area where the water is polluted, they won't get sick. It happened to me years ago. Right after that, the state recommended that you clean your blue crabs because most of the toxins are in the guts. Thanks for watching our videos
