Thank you. We're recreational crabbers. Crabbing is one of the things we love doing out on the water. What's the biggest blue crab you've caught in Virginia? In the last couple of years I've been trying to keep up with the biggest we've caught. Caught a couple 7" ers here. Not nearly as big as some I've seen others catching further north.
@@SaltyReflections Well. Where I've crabbed. The biggest I've caught was 7 3/4 . But that's rare. They have a great salty taste though. We're lucky though. We have the Chesapeake Bay on oneside and the Seaside one the other. About 4 miles from one side to the next. What's the biggest u guys have caught?
Yeah man, your dad and I are old class mates. You better watch out for that fella. LOL! Just joking. He's a good old country boy, just like me. 😆 Stay safe and God bless!
Love that you still cal them dolphin. I don’t know when the name changed. Probably when people thought we were catching Flipper. For weights on my traps I use a plastic coated dumbbell. Works well especially from a kayak or swimming the traps in from the beach.
I just found your channel & watched your crab 🦀 video. I sure did enjoy it & love to see local waterman out enjoying the water. I set the pots out every now and them so I can help others keep up with how the crabbing is going in our area. Another thing we love doing is shrimp trawling. We were hoping to catch more blue Crab in this video for everyone to see but just like I heard another RUclips creator say this ain't Hollywood. LOL! It takes guys like us testing the waters to show others what's going on. Thanks for the comment Tim and watching! God Bless!
Stab them carcasses to chum flavor. Around here we have so many variety of fish. I usually slice them head to tail.. just getting the most oil in the water to chum them in. We have squid and flounder in abundance .Chum salmon is the best! Skin them out and smoke fillets. The skin will ooze oil even after you skin them out. Then they are full of eggs too. Its a very good bait . I have crabbed for over 30 yrs. and use everything from mussels to clam to oysters. Everything works good but chum salmon and eggs with squid works best.
You have a nice little jon boat there. Almost kind of looks like mine. Great video brother. You know I did always wonder why the price of crabs fluctuates. I guess it makes sense. My wife is from MD and she absolutely loves crabs. Got to enjoy a good forty minutes of the vid. Thank you guys for sharing. See you again soon.

We have been to Charleston quit a few times. People from all over the world go to see the beauty of all the history there. Thanks for the comment and watching! I would love to see how you crab off of a paddle board! That has to take some great paddle boarding skills.
Salty Reflections I’ll be glad to send you some photos of my rig. What’s the best way to do that. Also, I’m only getting 4-5 crabs per pot. Baiting with bunker and chicken. Crabbing a 6ft deep creek off the Chesapeake bay in Virginia Beach. 4 miles inland from the mouth of the Bay. Any suggestions?

Im in Florida just getting started. I reallyn appreciate the video - good job. I'm trying to decide wether to buy some traps like you've got or make my own.
Enjoyed watching a local recreational crabber! We just got our first crab trap, and are going to use some of your tips! Yes, we subscribed! Put em out in deeper water, and tell us how deep!
Awesome! We like to watch all kinds of crabbing too! 🦀 Yes it is salt water, we are in Jenkins Creek, a river approximately 7-8 miles just off of the Atlantic Ocean on the coast of South Carolina. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 🦀🦀
enjoyed the video. I'm an amateur, why 50' of line on each trap? can I just do 15' or 20'. I'm probably not going to have but 5' or 10' of cover at low tide. Just interested. Thanks,
We were setting these out in deeper water so we added more rope than usual. We typically use about 20 ft or so in the shallower water we normally crab. Thanks for crabbing with us!
I live in central Florida have been thinking of getting a few traps (we are allowed 5)to toss in the morning into waist deep water off a pier or sea wall in hopes of getting 4-5 keepers after enjoying the beach for the day I have heard summer is best time because they go closer to shore when water is warmer enjoy watching your videos
Yeeeessss! You definitely should, you will enjoy it! I bet you'll get more than 4-5 keepers probably in each pot most days. & yes they are more plentiful in our area during the warm months too. Glad you are enjoying the videos. Welcome to our RUclips Family, very glad to have you! Thank you for watching and commenting.
My only concern is the tide carrying the traps away But I am doing a short soak so I could just watch the tide and plan accordingly or try a inter coastal river that does not have as much tide action crystal river is supposed to be loaded with blue crab
@@donaldferguson2759 When we put ours off of a pier, we usually tie it on to the pier itself so we won't have to worry about it moving away from that area by the tide. Make sure to check your local regulations to know where you can legally do so and it attaching to a public structure is permitted. But also we have rebar on the bottom of our traps which is used to weigh them down so even when they are not attached to a structure like a pier or dock, they will not be moved by the tide much, if at all. Also you want to make sure you have enough rope attached as well, cause if the trap isn't attached to any structure and the tide does happen to move them you want the rope to be long enough that if it does get moved into deeper water you'll still be able to find it. Or if it is attached to a dock, you want to make sure of course that the rope is long enough for the trap to sit on the bottom. Wherever you purchase your crab pots/traps from will most likely have an option to buy the ones with or without rebar attached, rope and bouy and all or just plain trap and you outfit it with the rest yourself but the same business will have everything you need. GOOD LUCK! Keep us informed on how it goes!
@@donaldferguson2759 Cool area! We visited Crystal River last year just for the day as we were passing through - we stopped to see the manatees of course! The area we visited was beautiful. We'd like to come back and visit again and see more of that area.
Crystal River is beautiful I’ve only been a few times I also know a few places that are accessible from a kayak that I might try as I don’t have a motorboat right now either way will probably wait until June or July
I live in Texas and our season is all year round we can use carb traps recreational and we have to have them documented and the carbs have to be five inches long from point to point and no females with eggs
Watching your video, from Wilmington Delaware, I’m enjoying you and your wife, seems as if you’all are very family oriented; I love crabs but scared to death of boats and water: keep doing what you are doing 👍
Thanks for the encouragement and thanks for watching in Delaware! Our waters will be loaded with keeper Blue Crabs soon. There's plenty of them here now but they're small. I can't wait!

I hatte it when people take the femals if they do 58,000 babies, are taken from the father crabing futher, I was in new jersery and they heard I liked crab and have me 6 all small females, I ate them can't waste them. All where ileagle. You are a good man. We had blue crab in briney creeks in my back yard with specled trout, cought aligater gar, no taps. Chicken leg on string, bring in and net on pole behind net the crab, fish, that followed eat yummy. I had mud crab, dunganes, crab.
We use to camp at Hunting Island several times a year. Our family has lots of great memories of our time spent there. Thanks for the comment and watching!
Yes, we love the low country too. The wildlife is awesome here but I have only seen one or two gators. Never seen one while crabbing. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment and thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for the comment! There are plenty of places to crab from the shore here! It's so easy to catch Blue Crab here during the warmer months and plenty of public docks also for everyone to use. In the Summer when you're in the right spots here it's even hard to fish without Blue Crab taking your bait or you may even reel them in while there holding on to your bait! We have put crab pots off of docks and within an hour have 15 or more crab in them. That's on a really good day. Again, thanks for the comment and watching! If you know of others that like Crabbing or other things on the water ask them to check our channel out! We really appreciate any type of help with the channel. We will try to continue to improve the channel as best we can! 🙂
Here in Florida we are aloud to put out Recreational 5 pots per person . I agree with not wanting to intrude on the Commercial Crabbers but do they do they do the same .
Thanks for the comment & for watching. I see what you mean, you question situations. We try to explain how things that have happened to us can happen naturally without other human interference but really we don't know. It does raise the question❓ We would like to hope everyone would respect others but we all know the world we live in. We can only do our own part, right!?
It is a 14 ft DuraCraft. We certainly got a lot of use out of it. Now my nephew & his family are putting it to good use! Thanks for watching & hope you have a great weekend!
How's the blue crab to eat? I've never tried one. So are these soft shelled. We have Dungeness crabs here in Oregon , love them. So how do you cook those blues? Enjoyed your video Thanks Dan / "aka Big Daddy"
The blue crabs are great. We clean and steam ours with our favorite seasoning. (Old Bay) The blue crabs don't have as much meat as some of the other species, but people love the sweet taste of their meat. A little melted butter with Old Bay sprinkled across the top is great for dipping.
@@SaltyReflections yeah we would like that. We went out fishing the jetties in the Charleston harbor last week. Wasn’t bitting that well but had a great time. Just purchased a new boat so I would love to get up with y’all to help me navigate some areas to fish in Beaufort

Wow! You guys are running a lot of pots. My hate's off to you brother. I know you guys work hard. No season for commercial crabbers in S.C. Some of my family was commercial crabbing a few years back. So, I went with them a few day during the good part of the year. We were getting 25 to 30 bushels a day. They were pulling around 200 pots a day. Thanks for watching!
I use to crab commercialy and ive noticed you have a lot of line on the traps . Thats good , but have you thought about adding a small weight 8-12' below the float so that the line dont float wild ? With the weight keeping the line straight below the float there's a less chance of another vessel getting wrapped up in the line and that vessel cutting your line and the trap is lost . Love the channel, ive subscribed and fish on man
When there are a lot of crab in our area overnight works. But you're right we have to leave them longer when there's less crab in our area. Thanks for the info and watching!
I don't think this four horse motor would do it but they do make small trawl nets. I saw a guy using a 16' aluminum boat with a 40 horse. Don't know what size net he was pulling.

We delt with a guy down there to buy gloves and supplies. Up here we call him glove man. He travels around selling waterman supplies
@@williamparks8626 We buy our supplies from a family owned business here called Beaufort Marine Supply.
I’ve been watching your videos for about a week now and I had no idea that you know me and my father Fleming
Yeah man, your dad and I are old class mates. You better watch out for that fella. LOL! Just joking. He's a good old country boy, just like me. 😆 Stay safe and God bless!
That's a great little runabout.
Yes, thanks.
Off-shore fishing sounds like fun!!
Thanks for the comment! We have a few offshore fishing videos were we went 50 to 70 miles out with some of our friends fishing,
Hi Stephanie,I love to go out on the water.Too with my friend doing crabbing and shrimping here in Washington.
Thanks for joining us for the adventure!
ok that's the Tim Riley pot lets see how it does lol....thanks for the shout out
Thank you for watching our videos! We appreciate it!
Love that you still cal them dolphin. I don’t know when the name changed. Probably when people thought we were catching Flipper. For weights on my traps I use a plastic coated dumbbell. Works well especially from a kayak or swimming the traps in from the beach.
LOL! That sounds right, we don't want anyone thinking we're crazy. Great idea using the dumbbell, it should last a long time with the coating on it.
Stephaine has got an easy job sitting up there riding along 😂.
I don't want her working too hard.😁
jackpot the Tim Riley pot snags a keeper....lol great video
It was our lucky pot! LoL!
I enjoyed the ride back out.
Thanks for coming along!
I just found your channel & watched your crab 🦀 video. I sure did enjoy it & love to see local waterman out enjoying the water. I grew up crabbing with my father & brother on the Chesapeake Bay & still enjoy it today. Plan on taking my kids out this season in our little Boston Whaler & drop some pots! I just subbed your channel & looking forward to seeing more. I just started my Bbq Channel & love it so far! Take care brother, Parker
Awesome. Very glad you found us and glad to have you as part of our RUclips Family! Crabbing is a great family activity - we have spent a lot of hours out on the water with our boys as they were growing up and we are very thankful and feel blessed to now be able to share some time out on the water with our grandkids too. Kids love being out on the water as much as we do. We both started out with our older generations doing these sorts of things too and getting out there definitely brings back a lot of sweet reflections on those times for us. Enjoy your kids and take them out soon! Thanks for watching and commenting. 🐚💙 We subbed to your channel as well! 😉
i liv in gaffney sc now but i grew up on delaware bay crabbin , i miss it so much im movin 2 north nc coast soon . your vids help get me thru til then , i liked & subscribed
Thanks man! I love crabbing. Stephanie(my wife) and we make a lot of different types of videos on the things that we love to do around the coast. I set the pots out every now and them so I can help others keep up with how the crabbing is going in our area. Another thing we love doing is shrimp trawling. If you like crabbing you'd probably find that pretty interesting as well. I think NC is the only state that let's people trawl inshore. We have a few trawling videos on our channel as well. Check them out. Trawling can be pretty rewarding. Thanks for watching!
I miss y’all so much
That looks fun and relaxing!
It is! We love crabbing! Thanks for the comment and watching!
Like always another great video I can't wait to see you guys start nailing those crabs when the weather gets good because you have great videos in there very helpful you give a lot of good points on where to place pots and how deep your fishing for crabs very helpful I can't wait to come to the coast here real soon in the future God bless you all and please keep making the videos and from the Midlands of South Carolina we will be watching
I always look forward to hearing your comments on the videos! Your comments always encourage me to keep making the videos! We were hoping to catch more blue Crab in this video for everyone to see but just like I heard another RUclips creator say this ain't Hollywood. LOL! It takes guys like us testing the waters to show others what's going on. Thanks for the comment Tim and watching! God Bless!
I miss Beaufort South Carolina I used to go crabbing all the time with my mom when we lived there rip mom
Hold on to those memories. Thanks for watching!
I surely miss being on the water and craving. Like ya'lls videos
We love being on the water. What keeps you from getting out the water?
will be moving to Bluffton/HHI summer 2023 and can't wait to crab!
Awesome! Our local waters are loaded with crab.
Hello - You have a great channel, I really like how you relate to (us) viewers. Keep up the great vids
Thank you! We appreciate you watching!
You got me wanting to go crabbing now
We love it!
Thanks for the info. We catch little small squid here, we'll have to try them sometime. 👍
that 4.4 is a beast!
YESSIR! For sure.
Thanks for watching!
Deep water BIG FISH.. nice

Go Gamecocks. I’m from Charleston originally. Grew up fishing, shrimping and crabbing. Live in Virginia Beach now and do a little crabbing from my stand up paddle board.

LoL 😂 Thanks man. I love crabbing!
thanks good video..Bennetts Creek VA
Thanks for the comment and watching in VA.
enjoyed the video.
How's the crabbing this year for you guys?
Is it possible you you can do more crapping videos and shrimp trolling and catching cook videos
Thanks for watching! We'll see what we can come up with.
like how you left the belly in fish - that is what they like the best
Yes, they're scavengers. The belly is just more for them to eat. Thanks for the comment and watching!
Question, wat type of knot do you tie to your trap
Thanks for watching and commenting. But that's a question for Oliver (Steph here at the moment). 😂🤣. If I tied it - it would either come right back undone or never ever ever come off! 🤦 I'll make sure he lets you know though! 😁 #jerririggedknot 🤷
Blue crabbing is awesome. Great video and keep it up guys, just subbed 🙏🏼
Thank you!
Love going to Hunting Island State park. Some of the better crabbing I have had.
We use to camp at Hunting Island several times a year. Our family has lots of great memories of our time spent there. Thanks for the comment and watching!
Love low country! Vacationed there many times. Ever see any gators out there when you’re crabbin?
Yes, we love the low country too. The wildlife is awesome here but I have only seen one or two gators. Never seen one while crabbing. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment and thanks for watching!
I love you and Stephanie’s videos I live in pa but I crab in nj
I love it. Are there places to crab from shore nearby your crabbing spots
i love these videos
Thanks for joining us for the adventure!
Hell yea she got the view
😆 🤣
Here in Florida we are aloud to put out Recreational 5 pots per person . I agree with not wanting to intrude on the Commercial Crabbers but do they do they do the same .
Thanks for the comment & for watching. I see what you mean, you question situations. We try to explain how things that have happened to us can happen naturally without other human interference but really we don't know. It does raise the question❓ We would like to hope everyone would respect others but we all know the world we live in. We can only do our own part, right!?
I enjoy watching it keep up the great videos
Thank you!
What size/model is that jon boat? Looks like perfect size for my wife and I.
It is a 14 ft DuraCraft. We certainly got a lot of use out of it. Now my nephew & his family are putting it to good use! Thanks for watching & hope you have a great weekend!
Excellent stuff bro
Thank you! I try.
Where ever you try I’ll watch love crabing
How's the blue crab to eat? I've never tried one. So are these soft shelled. We have Dungeness crabs here in Oregon , love them. So how do you cook those blues? Enjoyed your video
Thanks
Dan / "aka Big Daddy"
The blue crabs are great. We clean and steam ours with our favorite seasoning. (Old Bay) The blue crabs don't have as much meat as some of the other species, but people love the sweet taste of their meat. A little melted butter with Old Bay sprinkled across the top is great for dipping.
Awesome Fam.
Thanks, man! & Welcome to our RUclips family! 😃
Hope yall are doing well. Yall will have to come fishing with us one day.

Love the channel, ive subscribed and fish on man
Thanks. I've never thought of using a weight to hold the line down. The rope we use most of the time on our crab pots isn't supposed to float.
Not a good crab day but I really enjoyed watching how y'all do it.
The crabs weren't cooperating. LOL! We still made the best out of our trip.
You gettin' you some boats, ain't you?
O yeah.
With the metal around the bottom of your traps do you ever get hot pots
Not to sure about the question.
@@SaltyReflections it's where the metal rubs into the sand whenever you use rebar and it creates like static electricity and it makes the pot hot
@@lesterwolfe4266 Not that we've ever noticed we haven't ever had this happen, thanks for the info though.
Great vid and Go GAMECOCKS!
Thanks man! I had to wear the hat and shirt! LOL! But maybe that's why I had such bad luck????
Please let us know the time of year!
Will do. It is listed next to title.
You should let the pots set in the water for at least two or three days
When there are a lot of crab in our area overnight works. But you're right we have to leave them longer when there's less crab in our area. Thanks for the info and watching!
Could you pull a small shrimp trawl with a boat and motor like the one you use in this video?
I don't think this four horse motor would do it but they do make small trawl nets. I saw a guy using a 16' aluminum boat with a 40 horse. Don't know what size net he was pulling.
nice cage for crabs
Yes they work great! 🦀 Thanks for watching and commenting! 💙🦀

how is Winyah Bay in Georgetown for crabbing?
I'm not sure. We've never crabbed that area. Good luck!
