Matt, a few months ago I was struggling with the bad thoughts after a bad shot and rounds spiraling out. I wrote you for advice on FB and you gave me a pep talk about not reacting instinctively like a dog, but being a man and taking it shot by shot. I changed my thought process and approach. Since then I have taken 2 strokes off my HCP and am shooting in the 70s consistently… the way of the playa! Thank you!
Awesome,... getting in the right headspace is vital. 💪🏻😎🤘🏻
Playa that’s great news. Love to hear success stories like this
totally agree, changing your attitude toward the game irrespective of how you play is game changing. I used to lose it on the course after bad shots. Started following Matty boom boom a few years ago during the first covid lockdown after getting tired of people on another golf group whining about how terrible it was that they couldn´t play or weren´t allowed to take the flag out because of covid restrictions. A month or so prior to covid, I had been to South Africa on holiday and seen the real life divisions there; golf courses with high electric fences and barbed wire and guarded with high security, enough to say it made me realise how truly privileged we are to even be able to play the game at all. While here in Norway, courses were still closed because of winter. At the same time, my Dad was dying from cancer and I couldnt get back because of the travel restrictions.
Golf kept me sane. Golf Sidekick FB brought positivity to an otherwise tough real life situation. I started enjoying the walk, smelling the breeze. Looking at the fluffy clouds and feeling the sunshine. It is just a game after all. If you make a bad shot or lose a ball in the shizzle, nobody dies. Just break out the Tuba music and carry on. Making the mental change is like an epiphany. And when that happens, you suddenly start playing the game you always thought you were capable of, but never quite achieved because you sabotaged yourself with your own negativity.
To highlight what a difference it makes, I played a local course on thursday with a super nice married couple, him off a slightly lower handicap, her off 29hcp. We enjoyed the walk, talked, laughed. About everything. She was obviously not playing so great, but still made some good shots. Me and her hubby, very up and down. We high fived her par and my birdie on the same hole. And we all enjoyed the round. I broke 90 without trying and still making a lot of crap shots. Then yesterday, I played with my regular playing partner. He gets in his own head and complains about everything, how unfair a bounce is when he goes from one bunker to another. Or about the grass growing in a certain direction, or about the position of the trees he´s found. I try to stay positive but the constant negativity feeds into my head and I blow up. Neither of us break 100. So then the only question is, where do I find the Tuba music for our next outing?
That draw around the tree was probably the nicest iron shot from the rough I’ve seen you play, well done
Thanks bro
A bit rainy today but just misty and not to windy but wasn’t going to play. Watched this video and decided to go out to the course that’s 5 mins from my place. Shot even par for the first time in my life. Been 1 over a handful of times but finally got it done. I feel like I always play better golf after watching one of your videos so thank you.
Watching smart golfer like you makes me on fire! Thanks!😊

This girl is on fire
Woohooo!
Dude, you were focused and disciplined for 14 - 15 holes WHILE HUNGOVER! and not hitting your best shots (T-ball consistently going right). That's f'ing amazing!!! That's about the point in the round I lose focus even feeling my best. It is SO hard to be focused and committed for 18😢
It felt like a good round in the end
Days without humming the saxophone song: 0
as a long time fan from Dallas, TX that TX line was hilarious
Thanks playa
The abrupt music stop around the 7:26 mark, is why I follow you. No one else in all of the RUclips golf influencer world does this. It's legendary. The best music producers in the history of Hollywood could not do this. George Martin (from the grave) bows at your feet. Phil Spector commented from his prison cell, "It's literally the 'Wall Of Sound' crashing into the wall". Forget fading in and fading out. There is NO "fader" here! It's the "Slam Bam Thank You Ma'am" of music editing. WaddaMusicEditor.
Thanks Dennis. We all need a cheer man like you
This guy is the best. Bucket list to play a round with him
Chief Playa gettin back to that classic-style content. WaddaContentCreator
My thoughts exactly..
yep.... this is what my body wants
Thanks playa. It’s good to be back out there
Today, I was 5 over after the first 4 holes. Then I started planning every shot in the decision box. I was 4 over on the next 14 holes, with the expectation of 2 over at best. Not every shot went to plan, but those shots were probably better than if I did not have a plan. Hope it continues tomorrow. Plan for every shot - it works! Thanks Matt!
Playa this is a success story. Always good to hear
Matty!! Been getting great results from the WELD thought process in the THINK BOX. You da man!
Excellent playa
Hey Playa, the hero shot with the "window" to hit it through describes how I've played golf most of my golfing days.
Even Koepka, when he was out of position in the rough or trees would pitch to safety in the fairway, play his next approach to the middle of the green with a par look. The discipline to pitch back to the fairway and get to the middle of the green for a par look is more challenging than amateurs know but necessary. Keeping the double of the card is more important than saving par. Very difficult to learn and I'm still fighting it. Koepka did not fight it, and it was arguably what won him the PGA. Both Hovland and Conners tried clearing the fairway bunker lip with 9 irons, can't help but wonder if they would have laid up with a wedge and left themselves with a 60-70 yard pitch into the green, Hovland may have had a better chance at tying Koepka on the final hole of the PGA. Champions have an insane amount of course discipline.
I don’t know what I want more - Takomo wedges, your bird dog putter or Crossfields rainbow shaft
Matt: laser focus on the last few holes , especially when a good score is beckoning. I've done it myself. -3 , 4 hole sto go then the score set in and all calmness and serenity and in the zone feeling just dissappear. 1 shot at a time. Even if it's a recovery shot or a 6 foot bogey putt. Remember what brought you to the -3/-2 score. Focus focus focus!
I'm trying to win my matchplay against the course too those days... But it's been hard (mentaly especially) last time I had a chance, I was 3 under at the 15th, and made bogey, double, bogey... Finished at +1 😅
Only counts if its a jack nicholson!!!
14:04 That was so interesting. I would never have thought of hitting a driver there. It totally made sense though and you even got the birdie because of it.
Playa in Chief doing what he does best.." that will do, that will do." All he needed to say was pig afterwards and that's the best line from a movie. A.B.P.
Always be planting
ALWAYS
Back to the basics. Love it
OK loved the counters, the amount not to plan or to plan is so revealing. Loved this round and the trickleling par save put was the gem to my opinion. The mind blow up I know sooooooh well. Great vid again sir, loved it. 💪🏻👍🏻
If you are in the Eurozone time zone next week, ... live stream is planned for Tuesday 21:30 hours CET. 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
It was a great vid to make really enjoyed it
@@GolfSidekick 💪🤘
Matty love the video buddy what a shot with that high draw 7. Those are the shots that keep you playing golf!🎉
There’s always a shot that keeps us coming back
Great voice over again from the British Baus! 😊
I love your videos Matt. I am addicted to all things golf and your regular uploads and silky accent and golf swing make my life better 😎 cheers from Australia playa
Thanks playa. More to come. Thanks for watching
The course and the morning light looks amazing
It is a beautiful course
great job Matt! you saved a ton of holes with chips and putts.
Thats fo shoo
Fin awesome channel.
I'm going to start having the smooth jazz sax play on a loop while out on the course. It gives me such good vibes!
Do it. It really does make me feel good.
What you said about putting inside 6 feet couldn’t be more true I’ve been making every 6footer Ive laid my eyes on lately just because of my confidence in them
Yas playa i dont BS you with nonsense when it comes to scoring. You dont score until you score - Steve Stifler Philosopher
@@GolfSidekick been going low with your tips broke 80 a handful of times now getting easier every day

I don't know if you eat throughout your round but I've found that keeping the energy up reduces those bad holes due to fatigue. With that said your game is still wayyyyy better than mine. Thanks for what you teach and how you teach it as you have helped my outlook on the game which in turn lowers my score.
I have trained myself not to need food much, but in Thailand there are so many kiosks so I always have something if needed. But I think it's just training the brain to stay in it now. I was so out of it for a while in 2022 after pebble beach (bucket list), hole in 1 (first), shooting 67 and then feeling like what next...need to get the mental game back on track to stay IN the round all round long.
@GolfSidekick would love to see you do a "tour" in the USA again. Maybe come to Michigan and play Arcadia Bluffs or any of the many great courses in the state.
Getting ready for your break 65 series. 😂
I wish my camerathem was as positive and energetic as your camerathem, Matty Boomtastic.
Hahhahahahha

-“Let’s go where ? “
-“Over there!”
-“Okay!” Lol
Always confused especially when that guy Tom Kim was shouting it all the time. Like where w going bro?
7:00 thats one baaaaaad man right there.
Guys this is not about the video but I’m going to be singing a song 🎶.1!2 buckle my shoes 3!4 buckle some more 5!6 Nike kicks ohhohoho that was so fire 🔥
At 18:50....I play a lot of golf with my oldest brother. I hear that comment "There is a gap there, I am going to go for it" in most rounds.
It even works....the very very odd time
Wise words
Literally liked the video cuz of that nasty draw with the 7i around/over the tree. Fuck that’s what golf is about
My morning cup of tea, breakfast and RUclips video binge: brought to me by Takomo 60 degree
Lololol I’ll talk to takomo about a line of tea and brekkie
"Here i love to play my tee shot so far right, even texas would blush" Fkin sent me :D:D
lol.
😅 "Hi, this is Matty boom boom, your friend in the fairways" 😂
Always your friend on the fairways
Rick Shiels struggles with putting. He tried the LAB putter a few years ago and thought it was awesome ("I holed the world") but he refused to put it in his bag b/c it's ugly. So Rick's struggles will continue. Per Lee Westwood, he doesn't have a very good pre shot routine. He also is a little too in love with his driver.
What length do you play for driver, woods and hybrids? @
How are you liking the Takomo wedges? Need to replace the 54 and 58 in my bag this year, and was looking at them as an option.
16:35
Would a better way of scoring be to use shots gained? And have a 40 yard fairway, so anything in the rough loses the SG value, rather than just 1 yard. Current format doesn't really penalise wide shots properly.
Great shots though, amazing to watch!
I think Pro Mo would tear that course apart. That would be good to watch.
One of my favorite things to do after a round is to replay every single shot from my round in my head. It definitely helps your golf
Absolutely it helps
‘Committing to every shot is the challenge’ - feel this
the struggle is real
@@GolfSidekick brother I shoot in the high 90’s (but my potential is much lower - I know this) - last week was 97. Today I was putting into practice a few ‘new feels’ I worked out myself to see how they would fare on the course…. Today I shot my all time record low of 85 (previously 86). I felt present for every shot and I knew I could hit what I saw in my mind. Let the pipe show continue!!
I need to think confidence. I missed a couple yesterday that were under 6 feet cause I over thought it. Worst part that tap in from the same distance with no look, sometimes even from the other side of the pin to tap, ALWAYS goes right in!! 🤯😭😡🤬
This guy is either the best putter, or the luckiest I have ever seen -
That eagle putt had me cheering as if I was watching Tiger win the masters. Epic!
Great job man
Thanks for the cheering. I heard you playa
Driver off the deck, you devil.
Don’t say that like a kiwi
Much love from down under playa!
The love below!!
Today isn't even my birthday! A hungover Matty making it somehow look hard and easy at the same time.
This video was shot after my birthday!
@@GolfSidekick happy birthday, Sensei! So let me get this straight, it was your birthday and you were thinking about the rest of us. This is why we love you Bro.
Feeling so spoiled with all the hot 🥵
Content 🔥 playa
Thank you sir
im having a mental breakdown watching the 15 to 16. like its that easy to ruin your mental in a nice day. this is why golf is hard
Some days you’re the pigeon some days you’re the statue
Thanks Matt 💪🏻
thank you!
What golf course is this?
playa i ONLY use the single prong feather divot tool. it is sublime
The bestest!!!!!
Great content Matty
You are
I'm sorry but the caddy screaming like that at 20:28 would drive me nuts 😅
They don’t want the balls to hit the other playas
Anybody know what kind of golf shoes these are?
I love the eagle music. Now I need guitar tab for that. Let’s see how much of a playa u are
Lol maybe in my early twenties but no longer own any guitars or bass anymore playaaaaa
When I said I need guitar tab, I meant, what is the song…or where did u get the music. I play guitar. I was going to learn it playa
What golf shoes are they playa
HI HENA!!
Hi Story!
it looks like the courses don't have long grass, so even if you don't get to the fairway it's ok.
Thats correct thank you NPC
I retired my three metal and lob wedge.
Matt, how did you decide on Takomo irons?
Hit them, liked them, bagged them. But need to add my shaft to the club and have them swing weighted for me. Delicious
Thanks for tour replay. Like you i have srixons Z755, which I absolutely love but now you have me wanting to hit the Takomos
Hey Matt how does the 301mb feel in comparison to the z forged in terms of softness? Currently gaming z forged and looking at options
Finding it very similar but takomo little more forgiving
@@GolfSidekick interesting! Love my srixons but also want a little more forgiveness. Are they much bigger in profile or same same?
Pretty similar man. Takes a lot to get Srixon z forged out of my hands!
great video ..
Thanks Paul
please can you explain the difference in voice between the narration and you talking on camera. I can't be the only one who hears a difference
I'm not allowed to talk about it
Best golfer on RUclips... Love you boyfriend
Not the best. But the greatest.
Liked the video so I don’t snap my driver shaft

Is it me or does "The Butler" sound like he has a cold?
The Butler was on his fourth read in two holes. Poor chap
How to break 75 with a triple and double, make eagles an birdes 😭😭😭😭
Done watching after the peoplekind comment

This is the winning comment I'm sure. It's not.
Love the political correctness playa. You can never be too PC #todaytomorrowtogether
