Jen, you're releasing your inner freak with these action movies! 💣💥❤ The building explosion and implosion was real as was the construction site demolition. These filmmakers had a knack for finding old and abandoned places to get integrated into their action set pieces. The studio's insurance policy had to pay up as the office building explosives were a little too powerful and blew out the windows in the adjacent buildings.
The building that blew up at the beginning of the movie was Florida's old City Hall building. The new one was already built before the movie was made, but the city needed to demolish it. Producer Joel Silver lucked out on getting the permission for blowing it up for the movie.
It's so nice to see you reacting to sequels in a timely fashion. Nothing worse that watching someone react to sequel months, sometimes a year later after watching the original and then they spend half the reaction trying to remember what happened in the previous movie.
Lots of people don't care for the 4th movie as much, but I freaking love it. Must watch. (And there is supposed to be a 5th in the works, directed by Mel Gibson, as Richard Donner passed away fairly recently, but it's not strictly official yet.)
Mel Gibson's breakthrough roll was as Max 'The Road Warrior'. 'Dolores the Road Warrior' was just a little wink to the audience. Gibson and Glover were an absolutely perfect duo. Lethal Weapon 1 is by far my favorite, but the first 3 are all fantastic. The 90s were the best era for Comedy-Action movies: enough action to keep you entertained, enough comedy to keep it light, and enough drama to make you care about the characters. I sure wish they would get back to making movies like this.
1:38 a kitty! 🐈😸 8:55 a dawwwwwwg! 🐕 🐶 10:14 no don't kill the dog! 10:21 the dog! Oh my God he's taking the dog. I love Riggs. 10:28 I'm so happy they took the dog! I ❤️ Jen and her animal reactions
I worked for an armored car company in Denver. The bad guy would never had gone through the windshield because it's double pane bullet resistant glass...
Of the three four Lethal Weapon movies, this is by far my favorite. Renee Russo is probably the main reason why. The action and humor are just the right balance.
Some people have a problem with #4 (very few) but it really is as good and in some ways better than the others. all four movies stay true to the soul and heart of these characters. I can't wait for #4. Tears may be shed!
I grew up with these movies and absolutely love these characters. They do a good job evolving them of the series… I hope Tara does this series at some point
A little trivia for you. When you watched The Predator, one of Arnold Schwarzenegger's men, the one wearing glasses, is Shane Black. Shane Black created and wrote all of the Lethal Weapon movies.
That was actually a real building that was demolished in the beginning of the movie, not a model or CGI. There are small caliber armor-piercing bullets. Their availability is restricted, not available for public sale.
Jen, You’re a Lethal Weapon watching MACHINE! You’ll love #4 as well. “I can’t wait”, he said inpatiently as he patiently waited for the reaction to Lethal Weapon #4. :)
I agree totally. This is one of the few series possibly the only series in my opinion that was consistently great all throughout. Even with 4 being in the more modern era. That may not be the word for it but maybe up to date period correct, from which came alot of movies I didn't care for or just wasn't interesting, but they nailed it with 4 and I can't wait for her reaction of it.
@@jenmurrayxo Jen, just to let you know, the stilt house that fell in Lethal Weapon 2 was a real house not a model, it was scheduled for demolition, and the building that was destroyed at the beginning of this one was also a real demolition!
YES!! This was the second Lethal Weapon movie I watched growing up! It's one of my favorites in the series. It has an awesome song by Eric Clapton and Elton John called"Runaway Train" during the rolling credits.
8:08 "Step into my orifice" I've been using that line, on occasion, when it fit (pun intended) for thirty years now, and it never gets old (the joke, not my orifice). I'll see myself out. 😁
Fun fact, that construction area with all the houses being built that the climax ends up at is in Lancaster, California which is where I live, it was a housing construction that went belly up and was just perfect for the movie. I think you'll like #4. It's been described as a love letter/thank you to the fans. I don't know if anyone else mentioned it, but #3 has a brief post-credits scene. It's not significant plot-wise, but it is a good laugh and an appropriate bookend for the movie.
...and you can understand why. Two loved ones have been killed by thugs and the third is shot in front of his eyes. Talk about fear and hatred kicking in.
There is a parody/spoof of the series - Loaded Weapon 1, with Emilio Estevez and Sam Jackson. It does reference a few other movies you may not have seen though (Dirty Harry, Wayne's World, Basic Instinct, etc)
This movie had an end credit scene, nothing important, an extra comedy bit. Can't wait for 4. An amazing journey. The credit roll in 4 is lovely too, enjoy.
I don't think it spoils anything to say I loved 4, ... maybe the most. So looking forward to seeing your reaction there. Great reaction as usual, enjoyed!
Love your reaction to the motorbike explosion! 😊 Definitely watch #4! The Riggs-Murtaugh chemistry really powers the series, and each new side character they bring in adds their own extra spark. Love the way they tied it all up in the last one (well, last until #5 comes out!)
The villain Jack Travis is played by British actor Stuart Wilson. His best villain role is as Don Rafael Montero in 'The Mask of Zorro' opposite Anthony Hopkins as Don Diego de la Vega aka OG Zorro and Antonio Banderas as the new Zorro. You need to do that movie!!!
The first thing Mel Gibson ever directed was _Mel Gibson's Unauthorized Video Diary_ from 1989 and again in 1992 for _LW3_ - goofy skits he directed in between shots with the cast & crew. Hilarious & easy to find on YT.
Not too much to say about LW3. It's the peak of the franchise. More of what we love. Connective tissue between plot and character still sells it. I liked the 2 songs; It's Probably Me by Sting (film version is hard to find) and Runaway Train by Elton John & Eric Clapton. LW4 is the swan song. So have some tissues with you by the end of it.
I love 3 and 4 because of Lorna. She’s such an awesome partner for Riggs. Especially because she can hold her own, and is a perfect other half for Riggs.
Roger Murtaugh: I hope that when I do retire your new partner is just like you. Martin Riggs: That won't happen to me because there are winners and there are losers, and God wouldn't do that to me. Another fun entry in the franchise. And the Lethal weapon family grows larger. Only part 4 left to react to. But in 2023 lethal weapon 5 is coming. Guess Riggs and Murtaugh are never to old for this Sh*t.
13:32 I was smitten with Rene Russo after Major League (1989), but absolutely infatuated after this scene: Bad Guy: F*** off Lorna: Now that's not a nice thing to say to a Lady. Bad Guy: F*** You Lorna: I don't think so... WHAM!!! 🤣🤣🤣😍
It most certainly wasn't a nice thing to say, and saying it to a woman was especially nasty. I would never say anything like that to a woman unless she had just stabbed me.

Lethal Weapon 3 did a post credit sceene before they were a thing. Lots of people never even saw it because they were long gone from the cinema. Some folks went again because they missed it.
The funeral scene gets me every time^^ I really think they did it astonishing well. The whole plotpoint about danny glover is great. And that in a cheesy action movie.
So as a movie a lot of liberties are taken, but yes there are armor piercing rounds for most guns, typically they are hard to get a hold of and expensive in this movie based on the shape and color those are probably tungsten rounds. However contrary to popular belief a “bulletproof” vest will only stop non rifle rounds and even then not 100% of the time. But very few things stop an armor piercing round.
fun fact jen the building that was blown up at the begining of the movie was in downtown somewhere in florida and the city was going to get demolished because they were going to put up another building so when the movie company was looking for a building they could blow up for the movie they looked around for a building to blow up and they heard about the 1 that they used .
I first started watching your reactions when you reacted to "Firefly." I enjoyed your reactions then and started watching more of your reactions but now your reactions and energy are so boundless it is marvelous. I don't know if it is your personality opening up more and more or if it's the "Lethal Weapon" franchise getting you this way but it doesn't matter, keep it up. When I receive a notification of a Jen Murray reaction I know I'm in for an entertaining time. Thank you.
"Are those real?" Yes and no. There was a real scare about a real type of advanced ammunition that was exagerated for the purpose of this movie. First of all, armor only stops handgun bullets (and shrapnel) "Long guns" (Rifles, assault weapons) will still penetrate kevlar and nylon armor. The so called "cop-killer" *Teflon-coated bullets* were originally developed *by the police* in the 60's for improved penetration against hard targets such as windshield glass and automobile doors. In 1982, NBC broadcast a television special on Teflon-coated bullets that argued they were a serious threat to American law enforcement because of their supposedly increased ability to penetrate ballistic vests. In reality, although several calibers of the rounds were proven to penetrate ballistic vests under certain conditions, their inventor Ohio coroner Paul Kopsch said in a 1990 interview that "adding a Teflon coating to the round added 20% penetration power on metal and glass. Critics kept complaining about Teflon's ability to penetrate body armor...In fact, Teflon cut down on the round's ability to cut through the nylon or Kevlar of body armor." A federal ban on armor piercing ammuntion and various state laws against chemical coatings have effectively banned them. Production ceased in the 90's right around the time this movie came out.
Jean Murray there are literally armor piercing bullets out for people to get Richard Donner did direct lethal weapon 4. And was set to direct lethal weapon 5 the last film in the series but he unfortunately and sadly died at the age of 91. Lethal weapon 5 was going to be his last directorial film of Richard Donners career Mel Gibson is supposed to take over the direction of lethal weapon 5. (If it's going to be made)
Certain armor piercing bullets can penetrate a vest, but even if it doesn’t, the pain, possible internal wounding, and broken ribs from the impact of the bullet is also really bad and will send you to the hospital although not as deadly.
I saw them demolish one of the Riviera buildings in Las Vegas. You cannot believe the dust cloud that happens when they implode a building--and real high explosives are loud. You should see "Tai Guk Gi, Brotherhood of War" if you like action films. I cried at the end of that one.
Armor piercing ammo - Bulletproof vests haven't used actual metal plates in a long time, even at the time this film came out. They use Kevlar, which is a tough, but flexible fiber. "Armor piercing" bullets typically have a pointed tip so that they can part the fibers and go through the vest. However, they will NOT go through thick steel plating as shown in this movie. Large caliber handgun bullets and large rifle bullets WILL go through a vest to different degrees. In fact, most bullets will easily go through cars (excluding the engine block), and large caliber ones can go through a concrete block wall (the kind with the openings in the center). So when you see someone taking cover behind a car, it mostly serves to keep them out of sight, not to provide any real protection from being shot. Needless to say that they would have turned that port-a-potty into Swiss cheese. Also, fun fact: Even if a vest completely stops a bullet, the person who got shot will feel the impact, which will feel like they got hit in the chest with a baseball bat, and may even break their ribs. At the very least, they will be very sore and bruised afterward.
Haven't watched this yet, but I'm 99% sure Jen says "Riggs, you loose cannon!" :) And I mean that in a good way. Jen has a way of making fun of tropes JUST A LITTLE while showing respect to the original movie. I think she'd be really good at watching bad movies ala MSTK3 and it'd be a lot of fun.
I love the opening. It's so crazy and absurd that Riggs and Murtaugh would be arguing with each other over a ticking timebomb. And yes, they did blow up an entire building. It was a real planned demolition for a municipal building in Florida, and the film production took advantage of the demolition to film that intro. And no, I don't think armor-piercing bullets were a real thing, but the movie ended up kicking off a real controversy because it made people think that they were real.
Love this series. Looking forward to your LW4 reaction. Jet Li makes his American movie debut in it as the villain, and he is amazing to watch in the fight scenes. I remember seeing it in a theater and the audience cheered multiple times.
Jen I recommend the Madmax movies also staring Mel Gibson The first Madmax was a low budget movie, but became a cult classic and is one of Mels first movies.
Such a great reaction, Jen, I love that you're so into this series, they're all great, I hope that you do number 4 as well. I'm out of hospital now by the way, I have a 5 day course of Antibiotics to take then hopefully I'll be back to normal, fingers crossed.

Your predictions were on point. Sure there was some 'drama', but in the end you were correct.
Haven't watched this yet, but I'm 99% sure Jen says "Riggs, you loose cannon!" :)
And I mean that in a good way. Jen has a way of making fun of tropes JUST A LITTLE while showing respect to the original movie. I think she'd be really good at watching bad movies ala MSTK3 and it'd be a lot of fun.
I can't believe you did this one. You rule the world. I am so happy.
😂👍
I love the opening. It's so crazy and absurd that Riggs and Murtaugh would be arguing with each other over a ticking timebomb. And yes, they did blow up an entire building. It was a real planned demolition for a municipal building in Florida, and the film production took advantage of the demolition to film that intro.
And no, I don't think armor-piercing bullets were a real thing, but the movie ended up kicking off a real controversy because it made people think that they were real.
There's an end credit scene you missed. ;) Great reaction, as usual!
I caught it in the full length 👍👍
@@jenmurrayxo Awesome, glad you caught it!
Thanks ... Jen ...

Love this series. Looking forward to your LW4 reaction. Jet Li makes his American movie debut in it as the villain, and he is amazing to watch in the fight scenes. I remember seeing it in a theater and the audience cheered multiple times.
D'ya think I could get a gun this time?
(a resounding) NO!!!!!
Cracks me up.
😂👍
@@jenmurrayxo I like Leo, but the thought of him with a gun makes me really uneasy.
Love all of the Lethal Weapon movies
Jen I recommend the Madmax movies also staring Mel Gibson
The first Madmax was a low budget movie, but became a cult classic and is one of Mels first movies.
Such a great reaction, Jen, I love that you're so into this series, they're all great, I hope that you do number 4 as well.
I'm out of hospital now by the way, I have a 5 day course of Antibiotics to take then hopefully I'll be back to normal, fingers crossed.
So glad to hear you're on the mend! 👍
@@jenmurrayxo Thank you, Jen. I'm really looking forward to watching your reactions this week a great set of films.
If you liked Rene Russo in this one, check out The Thomas Crown Affair with her and Pierce Brosnan. She's great in everything she does.
I just remembered Mel Gibson and Rene Russo reunite in Ransom (1996), Gary Sinise is in it too. Haven't seen it in years but I remember it being pretty good. 👍
Excellent suggestion, I was just thinking about recommending this one too...and Yes, it's still a great thriller!
You are gonna love 4. This one is great!
Jen, that bullets are exist in our world - they are covered by teflon, so they can penetrate kevlar or doors in armored cars.
Now you are ready to watch national lampoons loaded weapon 1. It's a great parody.
Absolutely positively watch Lethal Weapon 4 next... after that you should watch Demolition Man, not going to say why.... but trust me, it's worth it
11:20 it's like the Mr. And Mrs. Smith scene 🥰😍🥰😍😍😍😍
Yes, so much fun!!! 🤗🤓🥳 Thank you Jenny Penny 🤓 you are the best!!! 🥰🥳🤗
