The Steven Spielberg produced Sherlock Holmes movie from the 80's is pretty solid too. It's almost like a cross between a detective story, a fantasy, and an unofficial Indiana Jones movie. It's called "Young Sherlock Holmes."

This is a great British Gangster film, Jen, I'm glad that you enjoyed it so much. For another like this I recommend, 'Love, Honour and Obey' it's not as well known but it's good none the less. As for Guy Richie films, one which I think you'd really like one and it is sort of related to Austin Powers, as I mentioned in a previous reaction, one of the references in Austin Powers was from the '60s TV spy series 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' well, Guy Richie did a film based on it from 2015, starring amongst others Henry Cavill, I suggest that you watch a few episodes of the original series before you react to it as it will acquaint you with the characters, you can view these episodes if you search under the title 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' or 'The Man from Uncle'.

Unexpected surprise. Lenny McLean is the greatest thing about this movie. He plays Barry the Baptist. He was a real life bare knuckle boxer and local hardman. He ad libbed a majority of his dialogue and Guy Richie just let him go off. Who he is in this film is almost exactly the way he liked to act in real life. Apparently he was an absolute sweetheart on set. He liked to hold court and everyone would crowd around and listen to his stories. It's a shame he's gone. He had a big personality.

The translated scene, for students of cockney rhyming slang
"A few nights ago Rory's Roger iron's rusted. He's gone down the battle-cruiser to watch the end of a football game. Nobody is watching the custard so he turns the channel over. A fat geezer's north opens. He wanders up and turns the Liza over. 'Now f*** off and watch it somewhere else.' Rory knows claret is imminent, but he doesn't want to miss the end of the game. So, calm as a coma, picks up a fire extinguisher, walks straight past the jam rolls who are ready for action and he plonks it outside the entrance. He then orders an Aristotle of the most ping pong tiddly in the nuclear sub and switches back to his footer. 'That's f***ing it,' says the geezer. 'That's f***ing what?' says Rory. And he gobs out a mouthful of booze covering fatty. He flicks a flaming match into his bird's nest and the geezer's lit up like a leaking gas pipe."
    Roger (Mellie) = Telly (TV)
    Iron's rusted = Busted
    Battle cruiser = Boozer (pub)
    Custard (and jelly) = Telly
    North (and south) = Mouth
    Liza (Minelli) = Telly
Claret = A type of red wine, used here as a metaphor for blood
    Jam rolls = A**h*les
    Aristotle = Bottle
Ping pong = Strong, in the sense of high alcohol content
    Tiddly (wink) = Drink
    Nuclear sub = Pub
    Bird's nest = Chest

"OMG that would take so long" 🤣 This was most of the world's introduction to Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham, and yes, that was Sting. I remember seeing this at a little independent theatre in Orlando Florida when it came out in the US and it was the coolest thing I'd seen since Pulp Fiction. More Guy Ritchie films please! His two Sherlock Holmes films are excellent, so is his version of King Arthur IMO. The Gentlemen and Rocknrolla are a couple more crime stories in the same vein as this and Snatch. You'd probably enjoy The Man from U.N.C.L.E. too since you enjoy spy thrillers so much, plus it starrs Henry Cavil. See you in the next one Jen. 🥂

Thought you might like this. The scene where Nick the Greek drops the glass through the table was unscripted. Jason Statham was a street vendor before acting.

Another Guy Ritchie movie to watch is "The Gentlemen", Matthew McConaughey, Michelle Dockery, Charlie Hunnam, Hugh Grant, Colin Farrell, Jeremy Strong, Henry Golding and a great supporting cast.
Absolutely fantastic movie about crime, weed, newspapers, Russian mobsters, street gangs, blackmail and an "impressively sized Farmyard pig"...
In the words of Michelle Dockery's character "There's fuckery afoot..."

Any Guy Ritchie film that even looks a bit like "Lock Stock" is usually a good time. "The Gentlemen" is the most recent, I think, but there were a couple more back there as well. They do kind of blend together but if you liked this and "Snatch" they're all worth a glance.
If Jen hasn't seen Guy's "Man From UNCLE" film, someone needs to do something about that right away. As much as she likes James Bond, it would be doing her a disservice to not put her on to UNCLE. 😃
