  • Spain's ESPS Almirante Juan de Borbón is one of five Nato warships visiting Southampton's port before heading to take part in Exercise Steadfast Defender.
Before arriving in Hampshire ESPS Almirante Juan de Borbón, the flagship of Standing Nato Maritime Group 1, carried out gunnery exercises while travelling from Scotland.
The F-100 Frigate can perform both surface and antisubmarine warfare, as well as launching laser-guided hellfire missiles.

Looks very impressive, I enjoyed this short tour of a Spanish navy warship! Interesting that you categorise the 5 inch gun in 'inches' rather than 'millimetres'.

Pulgadas, they always do. Never even thought about it until you mentioned it. (Ex private contractor)

@@SteamerbeenThanks for reply. It was just an observation really, doesn't matter too much, but tank guns seem to be always in millimetres, 120mm common on most main battle tanks Like our Challenger II's. I'm sure I heard UK Royal Navy destroyers and frigates mention mm rather than inches these days. I love big guns, I'm ex forces.

This Spanish ship has the same 5 inch cannon as the US Navy's DDG and CG ships. All of the weapons systems on this ship are the same as a US Navy's DDG-51 class ship. Spain designed their own frigate size ship for these systems.

48 cells - impressive for a fairly small displacement frigate.

Missiles are expensive, they probably do not have enough missiles to equip all 5 frigates, so they are not going to waste the few missiles they have in drones ordered at alibaba.
