S-80 + submarines are becoming a symbol of determination for the Spanish naval industry. No matter how many troubles and problems the programme had to bear. No matter how many negative propaganda campaign this programme received, particularly from media from the supossed "allies" of Spain. In the end, Spain did it. The S-80+ is a reality. Thank's to U.S. Naval Institute for this video. Spain now has the submarine that so many people tried so hard to prevent being enlisted in the Spanish Armada.
It's probably among my favorite Conventionally-powered attack submarine (SSK). It has the AN/BGY-1 combat system, which is the same as the Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarine (SSN) and was originally planned to be integrated with Tomahawk land attack cruise missile. But was included in the Isaac Perael-class of the Spanish Armada.
No It's not. The AN/BGY-1 is a Raytheon product, and the SCOMBA o ICSC it's a Lockheed Martin development, more similar to AN/BQG-5 from Los Angeles SSN. And the US Congress authorised to sell Tomahawks to Spain, but Spain refused later to buy them. Now Spanish Armada is planning to integrate NSM missiles in S-80+. The combat system is US made anyway, and from US SSN submarines.
This S-80 reunited the most advanced companies of Spain to create the most advanced non-nuclear submarine. Was an obsession from spanish government to create a 100% spanish submarine, however, an American company comes to help when was being built because there was a mistake at the design that no one find It. The American company found the mistake and the problem was resolved.
The combat system is a Spanish combat system called SCombat, but yes it is very heavily based in the US system. As for tomahawks, while it is on paper capable to shoot tomahawks, like the F100 frigates, Spain doesn’t have them and their sell hasn’t been agreed to Spain. As of today only the UK can shoot out tomahawks from its subs, and only Australia can shoot out tomahawks from its F100 derived frigates. If the US agrees to the sell of tomahawks to Canada, or not, this sub would be great for Canada as it is very close to what the USA operates.
The S-80+ sub is leading candidate of 75i submarine project. It is project that build and acquire six large conventional attack sub for Indian Navy. Main contender is Type 212CD sub by TKMS of Germany. I wish S-80+ will win the bid.
I don t think with that history that anybody other than spain will even look at it! Practicly anyone building subs would be prefered not just TKMS with the 212CD! As if a botched up design , saved only with foreign helb could compare! With the S 80 they have to worry about quality, punctuality or coast to no end ! They can t offer anything other don t have already and certainly not anything better by comparerison !

India just signed for 3 more Scorpene subs. As for the S80, it integrates too many countries’ tech’ and too many US components (non ITAR free) to be relevant for India or any other country that isn’t very closely aligned with the USA. Canada is the best bet for the S80.

Yes yes, this is because France and the United Kingdom are not collaborating with Spain but trying to overthrow it. Because of this, Spain is trying to do everything by itself and Spanish society does not see these countries as allies but rather as potential allies of Morocco.

There is no doubt that the design and technology of this new submarine surpasses the Scorpene in every possible way. Its state-of-the-art engineering, advanced sensors, combat system, unparalleled stealth capabilities, platform scalability, and third-generation AIP system make it a superior technological class.

It has nothing to do with a scorpene. It is a new design. Others envious. What an idiot.
