Jay Weinberg is the drummer for Slipknot. Joey was the drummer for Slipknot.
    Incredible drummers, both!
I think something that gets missed in all the hubbub amongst fans is that Jay, among all the potential drummers to fill Joey’s shoes, was/is exceptionally suited for the job because he was an uber Slipknot fan as well as being an exceptional drummer.
He was called in to an audition without even knowing who he was auditioning for. When he discovered it would be Slipknot a half hour before the audition, he was able to play 20 songs starting cold.
That’s phenomenal! And Jay has since demonstrated he’s damn well up to the task!

Also Slipknot is an intelligent machine. They know, no matter how good your drummer is, an aging drummer will get slower. And joey was a great drummer, but he was already in the decline in the AHIG era. By getting a currently 28 year old dude as their drummer, they've just increased the longevity of the band for at least a decade or two.

Jay and Joey are not comparable to each other because they both have their own style. And it's at a really high level. Each one is the best in their own way, and Jay has actually done a fantastic job taking Joey's place with his way of playing the drums."

Good drum brand to be able to take the abuse he gives them. Met those guys at NAMM a couple years ago and they’re very down to earth. Always looking out for the “little guy” drumming in the bar every night, yet can furnish kits to Jay’s level all day.
    Just good all around.

I’m pretty sure Slipknot fans that have been listening to them since the first album are still use to hearing Joey’s drumming because of how he really killed it on the drum set and how he introduced a new form of fast, heavy, and amazing style of drumming that no one had ever seen. But do I believe that Jay is a great drummer? Hell yeah. Is he up to par with Joey? I think he will be when Jay earns Joey’s number. And who knows if somehow they want Joey back for a specific reason then Slipknot is still gonna be as great as they are right now.
