ImperialHal spent three years chasing a championship, But to win it, he had to change the most fundamental part of how he played Apex Legends.
After years of the endless debate between mouse and keyboard and controller players over auto aim in Apex, and how powerful it was, Hal took matters into his own hands. He wanted to prove that auto aim was just too strong so he took a risk, and switched to controller.
Hal had to relearn how to play the game at the highest level, then compete against the best of the best at one of the biggest tournaments in the game, all to prove a point.
    And he did it.

this video definitely needed to be written by someone who actually understands the input debate and the actual reason why AA is such a hot topic. That reason being 0ms direction switching due to the rotational aim assist in apex. For reference, unless you're able to perfectly predict someone's strafe, you'll take 100-200ms to react to the direction change every moment of a fight. Also, not trying to meat ride Hal but it feels so discrediting to put his recent success on an input switch rather than his own dedication.

Ancient MnK player here so one of the bigger reasons why something like this didn't happen earlier was because gibraltar was meta from season 3-13 and Gibraltar slightly favored mnk over controller since his bubble would require people to run shotguns instead of smg's and smother movement mnk managed to get the tiniest bits of edges in bubble fights which were majority of fights in pro play after gibraltar fell and seer clawed his way back to the meta it favored controller much more since there is no reason to run shotguns anymore and smg's and mid ranged weapons rule

If someone (like Furia) tried to "create" a new meta with her sooner, the debate would have been over a long time ago, since horizon is even better on roller (MnK can be good on Horizon too don't get me wrong, but the Queueing up Beams (when the accuracy was 100%) was def easier on rollers

  • @vaunch1
    @vaunch1 11 месяцев назад +297

Important Context on WHY Hal felt he was being aimbotted that was kinda of blanketed over:
The truly problematic part about aim assist, is the rotational aim assist which functions at a 0MS delay which is WHY people feel like they're being aimbotted, and the entire point the debate revolves around. If your crosshair is over the enemy, it will track a percentage of any movement they do until your crosshair is no longer over the enemy. (In Apex) For PC controller, this is 40% of any movement, and for console this is 60% of any movement until the crosshair is off target.
There are plenty of videos going into the finer details of how it works exactly, but a brief synopsis of how it works is important in understanding WHY Hal switched inputs.
Aim Assist creates inhuman reactions, which makes strafing and movement that a player performs less impactful and aiming becomes less prediction based, changing it into reaction based aiming, which is WHY Hal switched inputs.
I feel like the person being interviewed doesn't understand just how impactful aim assist is, nor even how it works.
Why wasn't how Aim Assist works talked about at all?

It's incredibly important context to when Hal talks about being aimbotted without being able to do anything about it because of the input he was on.

I feel like this vid does not accurately explain a lot about the Mnk vs controller discussion. MNK vs Controller may be a loud, angry debate for the extended apex community, but for the competitive scene, it was pretty cut and dry by the time Hal fully swapped. Most if not all teams started imposing on themselves the rule that their roster needed at least one controller player because of how important having one was. The entire pro scene agreed that as far as CQC goes, aim assist is king. Entire metas revolved around aim assist to the point where at some point after he swapped to controller, hal had to consider swapping BACK to mnk for international events because teams from other regions ran Bangalore as a way to counter controller aim assist. The biggest edge it gives is consistency: In a battle royale where there are so many variables per game, having at least one person on your team (if not more) who was GUARANTEED to perform in close quarters 3v3 scenarios is invaluable. Regardless of how you think aim assist affects casual play, whether or not you think the modifier on aim assist itself is too strong, or whatever other arguments that some may have on controller vs mnk, this is the reality of aim assist in competitive apex. Whether it's too strong or not, it is meta defining.
I also feel like this video literally did not touch on the actual reasoning why hal changed inputs. Going back to consistency - any pro player, mnk or controller, has immaculate aim. However, because of aim assist, there is a level of consistency to a controller player's mechanics that is nonexistent for an MNK player. In a 1v1 between the worst controller player and the worst mnk player, the worst controller player will have the advantage because of aim assist. The controller player would win 9/10 times. This difference gets less important as the skill level of the players rises. Between a pro mnk player and a pro controller player, it would probably be closer to 50/50. However, there are times where having that crutch of aim assist's consistency matters.
Now instead of the 2 worst players in a 1v1 in practice range, replace the two players with two pro players in the 5th circle of a LAN, trying to figure out how they're going to get their team safely into the next zone with about 5 other teams contesting their rotate. That takes a LOT of brain power to compute the right move, on top of executing it. Hal, being the In Game Leader of his trio, is responsible for calling these plays. Having to figure out the optimal play, communicate it to two separate people with distinct roles in the play, AND be up to par mechanically is a lot to do at once. Putting Hal on controller removes the pressure to perform mechanically, because regardless of how cluttered his brain space will get, aim assist will make sure that his mechanics are held to a bare minimum passable in a close quarters fight. Consistency is just one of the various practical reasons that weren’t even mentioned.
The average MNK players that just say "Aim assist is broken" are just as wrong as controller players that say "mnk movement isn't fair", at least when it comes to professional competition, because that realistically doesn't matter at the highest level of play. Any controller player that has made it to LAN is just as good at the game as any MNK player there. Any complaint the average apex player has, including myself, goes out the window when accounting for pro play.
The Score reducing the controller vs. mnk debate to just another hot topic people like to complain about isn't really fair considering it has already been discussed at length, and just by digging a little deeper, you could see past the surface level of casuals complaining about their platinum ranked games and discuss the real implications of controller players in pro play. Hal also had many hours on controller in other competitive games like halo iirc, so this was not a 0-100 input switch for him - he had the background experience to make it a viable option.

Also, controllers Dominate on the X, Y axis...........
The Z axis is undeniably a MnK only area...
Best point is to explain with controller, im sure your aware, your looking over an edge at an opponent, and they move and theyre impossible to track especially if they run on a Z axis
But controller, both on X Horizontal axis, 2 noobs, 1 has controller and 1 has MnK? Controller wins.....
      Now make them both pros.......
Tougher call... A legit MnK player is a freak. And rare....
Where controller ratio of freaks is higher its simply easier to pick up so obviously, lul.
Last point, everything being said, that COMPLETE lack of Z axis tracking on controller, against MnK dominating that plain..... And X, and Y straight up vertical, MnK has and always will be better.....
BUT under extreme circumstances only. I. E. user has to be elite, unlike controller where a toaster oven can beam the lobby.
THIS is what is never mentioned in debates.
Also, seperate ping types into lobbys, no more super super low pings playing lobbys with highs... They should all play against themselves.
Let the moderate internet package people like me, have a fair fight, i got bills... Sorry i cant afford the 160 dollar a month internet package cause i live in my parents place still... Lul. Vents over. Lul.

Hal was never the most mechanically superior player within pros. It's his game sense and shot calling that makes him such a great player. As you said, if he can focus all his attention on everything else and let aim assist be that "crutch" to even up his mechanics, then he's basically a perfect player. Aim assist on controller basically evens out everyone's aim to the same level within Pros, and let's game sense be the difference maker. Movement and individual play potential with MnK isn't important at all in the pro scene because every fight is coordinated and ends within a few seconds.

really wish a company would develop a 3rd person military style br...... with realistic expectations..... it doesnt have to compete with fortnite apex or pubg to be a healthy profitable game.... if it could hold a player count of like 40ish thousand id be happy, queues wouldnt be super long but for sure not instant...
i know itll probably never happen but man i miss h1, i was one of the players that still exclusively played it even once it dropped to like 3k players and had 15 min queues for a 20 man lobby

Why I hate Aim Assist it's not that I hate controller PLAYERS, it's because I hate the devs who gave controllers such broken aim assist, it's not "ASSISTING" anymore, as soon as they turn off the aim "assist" they legit can't even hit 1 shot and play legit like no-hands.
If controller players played against other controller players, I DO NOT CARE, have fun... but no... me as a M&K player, we have things like aim trainers, Kovaks and Aimlabs, no such thing exists for controller players, because they don't need it, there is no training needed, because there is legit no skill involved.
With M&K you have shit ton of settings you need to understand, then you have various grip styles, different mousepads give you different charecteristics and much more, you can be an aim aimer or a wrist aimer or a hybrid one... you can do fingertip, claw, palm and other weird shit... while on a controller, you might get a scuff with 4 extra buttons on the bottom and all you do is adjust your ingame controller sens... DONE... this is my problem... I put effort into becoming good, I train and learn ways to improve, while some fucking donkey dev decides to implement a broken aim assist and RIP me a guy who plays fps since 12 years, uses aim trainers etc... gets rekt by a 15yo kid who just plays 1h a day... like why? Since when you punish will and dedication? Imagine me a total dumb fuck going to F1 and have so many assists that I basically win 90% of the time while Hamilton with so many years, and racing classes, teams gets fkin rekt...

The ALGS is the most fun esport to watch. Because it's just nonstop action compared to CSGO and Valorant where it's more about watching corners. But Apex legends as a game is a freaking disaster to play. Server DDOS abusers literally turn off entire lobbies if they're about to lose, cheaters are mindbogglingly high, the skins are mostly garbage, the game is riddled with bugs that are never fixed and the servers are *inconsistent.* The gameplay is epic. But the way they handle the game is disastrous.
EDIT: Also EA literally ignoring the prevalence of vtubers in Apex legends is just mindboggling. Iirc about an year ago a female vtuber had 150K concurrent viewers on her Apex legends stream. If EA properly utilizes that and collaborates with them the ALGS would be twice to thrice as popular. I'm staunch supporter of the ALGS because it's the most fun esport to watch but EA is just negligent and stupid.
