I stood and watched this review 🎉 Dave's a great guy! Even bought me a couple slices while we talked afterwards. Thanks Dave!
So what's your score?
Everybody knows the rules 🍕
Prove it
My man said a couple slices what the hell
My wife wanted to know if you pretended to do a review when you are your pizza?
I doubt bakery pizza is anyone's favorite style but sometimes you crave a bakery slice and it hits the spot.
so true
Its a breakfast slice
WHEATED in Brooklyn is a Bakery that does pizza.. He scored in the middle eight and his bread is even better
it's great as a quick hangover cure or a side when you're splitting a sub
Speak for yourself! I have a couple of small and very traditional Italian bakeries that I frequent when I'm back home on the east coast.
Love how Dave never turns down a picture. A true man of the people.
Yeah, gotta give Mr Portnoy a shout out for treating the people that love him right. Salute.
Dave’s Pageviews working it
yeah ain't it funny how even then some people still wanna shout 'douchebag' while passing by from the comfort of their vehicles.... LMAO
Who knew that he's great with kid viewers too.
A person with a heavy social media presence and running a business would be stupid not to take a picture with fans/potential customers/customers.
Looooove this place. Classic cash-only joint that does Italian staples so well. Their deli quality is phenomenal and they supply bread for some of the sub shops on the west side, too.
Mmmm, Bari's sounds good right about now.
They take card! Just an extra fee 😅
What does mean cash-only?
@@ameliabedelia7018 No credit cards, no debit cards, no checks. Cash only. Small businesses don't like credit card fees, and cash-only transactions are more friendly for their accounting needs.
Bari used to be the best deli in town, mostly thanks to d'amatos bread
We call this pizza bread (it's a focaccia style). It is most often eaten at room temperature. I love the pizza bread from D'Amato's. I am so happy Dave stopped in to try it.
Ah, is that what it is? I was thinking it was hot, out of the broiler and actually edible.
Yess
Most Italian bakeries in Italy have this style. It's essentially a Sicilian style with the sauce/gravy on top, with parmesan sprinkled on top for added flavor!
Superior Bakery had the best bakery pizza. Shame they shut down.
That’s focaccia bread , as a kid after working 16 hours a day I was offered a focaccia sandwich (salami, ham, mortadella & Swiss)or .50 cents I always took the sandwich 😄 RIP Mr. Ricci ❤️
Well, not everybody can make THREE CENTS PER HOUR.
I don’t think any of us expected it to be phenomenal, but it’s still a great shout out to a cool local place! Pizza clearly isn’t the focus, and that is perfectly ok. Their bread looks BOMB
Locals spot for sure
They cook all their bread in a hundred-year old coal-fire oven. One of the best in the city.
@@MichaelHoffmanInc that’s awesome!
This place is packed... i mean packed at lunch time. Next door is Bari.. another grocery store that makes sandwiches in the back. Both phenomenal. both get packed at lunch time and theres like 0 parking there during this time.
That guy almost snatched it, I'm crying xD
EDIT: 1:28 😂
Looked like he was gonna bite Prez......
One bite, he knew the rules...
This feels like an OG One bite video
Dave’s red shirt and his placement in front of the store is golden
The bread basking in the sunlight by the window ceil looks SO GOOD! Awesome spot, nice touch with this review!!
D'Amato's has been baking bread for Chicago restaurants for decades. The loaves shown in the window have a crust and crumb to die for. The sheet pizzas are more of a focaccia and always have been. That one slice is a meal.
I drive from the suburbs just to buy the bread and pizza slices, so for me, it's in the high 8s
One 7.3 score for a bakery pizza everybody knows Dave is really baked today.
he smokes doesn't he... I had a feeling.
No One Cares if they know the pizzeria 7.3 is a high score tae dat shit or leave it NEXT. 🍕
@abundantharmony have you seen his high frozen pizza review?
lol no! which one was that? @@angelguerrero7850
I love this place!!! Their Italian subs are the best!! The giardiniera is to die for!! And don't even get me started on their pastries 😋😋
Bomb stretch of deli right there. D'Amato, Bari, and vinnys
i prefer baris subs next door, but theyre both awesome, esp damatos pizza, foccacia, sourdough boules (what you saw in the windows here), and dont forget the arancini!
Their bread is phenomenal especially for Italian beef.
Dave energy is amazing , I don’t think the old man that took that one fake bite knew him but he knew the rules! 😂one bite
😂 Everyone knows the rules!
Dave is a solid citizen and wonderful ambassador to making food great again.
Charmed by the nice Bakery lady everybody knows Dave is a softy these days.
With great power comes great responsibility!
As a lover of mom and pop restaurants, a kind owner who creates a great environment means the food legit tastes better. IDK what it is, but it does
She sounds like she deserved some love. Above 7 was very nice of Dave.
Also he went out of his way to do it it wasn’t on the agenda he couldn’t give a low score. Gave a solid score and got some business for this shop
It’s cause he is in a relationship
I'm 76 I remember this bakery as the may street bakery On grand Avenue . the 1st pizzeria I can remember was around the corner on Ogden a few Miles from the beginning of route 66.What Dave ATEwas a type of pizza bread It's all we had before the pizzerias opened Choice of fresh tomatoes or anchovies no delivery.Every joint in the area was like this very very good.Grand and Ogden was a 2nd little Italy The other was on Taylor street and Ogden ,again Route 66.Great song,Great street!!!
God bless my friend, great history.
The guy yelling “douchebag” probably supports Dragon Pizza
That pizza actually looked really good. I bet the bread on it was amazing
They bake all their bread and pizza in a coal-fire oven that's about a hundred years old. The pizza is Sicilian street style, but probably not the type everyone is used to. Great jewel in the city.
Great looking bakery! Everybody knows you should have got a sub!
On my soul that’s what I said. I think he’d give the Italian mid 8s for sure.
This video made me sad because my local Italian Bakery closed during COVID and never re-opened. Then burned down in a fire. Unfortunately, we can't have nice things anymore.
Seems deliberate too....we lost a lot but hopefully we get it all back and then some...life is short....we deserve some comforts while here....🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕
Those restaurant fires were everywhere during COVID. Crazy once in a lifetime coincidence.
D’Amatos has always been a favorite of ours. My dad used to wake up early on weekend mornings to drive down and get bread and other baked goods for the weekend. I’ll never forget the smell and how happy it made him.
Love this place, used to work down the street at the Axe Throwing spot. Their sausage slice was just incredible and was a great lunch many teams. Great sandwiches and Vinnie's down the street has great Subs too.
Cane dude wanted one bite, everybody knows the rules.
🍕🦈
That bread looked amazing! Looked just like we get in Brooklyn.
This bakery has been baking bread, pizzas and making sandwiches for about 80 years. They have a hundred year old coal fired brick oven in the basement. They sell their bread to a ton of Chicago restaurants and delis. Bari Foods next door is terrific, too. Sicilian pan pizza like Nonna used to make.
Nanna *
This what REAL pizza from an Italian bakery is known for and the original pizza in America, the best.
Should of gone over to Bari right next door! Got some of the best deli sandwiches in Chicago!
Woah, so close to Bari's and he missed it. Crazy good bread, crazy good Italian subs, and crazy good Italian sausage.
Marinated eggplant salad.
That is all.
This place has been around forever. It’s great.
Props Dave for always being willing to take a pic and meet people
I went to this place a couple times when I worked downtown. Got to say the prosciutto sandwich was killer. The pizza was forgettable.
daves score influenced by the vibes, everybody knows the rules ;)
Chicagoans know D'Amatos! Been getting cannoli here for awhile, best in the city!
Hey Dave, I'm an Omaha native. I would love to see you review Noli's as well as Franks Pizza.
He did nolis they suck
Frank’s is decent, I enjoy their Sicilian as it’s unique and has some crunch on the underside. Their basic pizzas are ok, conveyor belt style.
Love this dudes reviews... raw and real.
Bakery pie hits different than anything else. It’s a acquired taste and it needs to be from a place that’s way old and has been around for generations
What a beautiful little bakery. It looks so cozy.
The breads looks fantastic.. now i am hungry.. great score for a bakery..
Had you been around Chicago 30-60 years ago Dave like I have, then you would've experienced really great Pizza in Chicago. Of course I'm Italian. In the realm of things, and with no mistake I'll rate Masi's Bakery Pizza as a 10, D'Amato's would be about a 4. I used to stop at Masi's 5:20-5:30am before heading to work at the Amtrak Yard. Walk in the shop with almost 1/2 sheet of Pizza, and watch it vanish in 2 minutes flat. And often a 2lb loaf of Bread and Butter to boot. Man, what a breakfast with some hot Coffee! Damn! Frank Masi also made the best Italian Wine on the planet, would typically make about 30 (35gal) barrels per year, red and white. The best bar none! You'd flush a $300/bottle of french wine down the toilet after tasting his. Home Run Inn was excellent back then, just a small bar with a 19" TV in the corner of the Bar, Mama Shiavones, Western-Harrison, all the Blackhawks used to go there in the 60's, Blackie's on Taylor, best thin crust of all, and I hear Whiteys on the other side of Taylor was super. Gennaros, by the projects, yeah, they made killer thin crust. Even Sara's on 26th St, a little Shack-Garage, made the best Breaded Steak Sammys of all, great Minestrone Soup, and excellent Pizza that rivaled this $30 Coalfire shit you see today. Good Chicago Pizza today is few.
We heat this pizza up the night of thanksgiving as a family tradition. Always hits the spot!
Thanks for the captions Austin, I appreciate those!
Never thought I would see D'matos on here, so cool
Dude walking by was the highlight
Great spot. Everything I get there is solid. I really like their pizza, and while it's definitely a different style than some might be used to, the flavors are excellent.
Was a spot since I was a kid, very unique and love it to this day
This is where I buy my pizza dough for homemade pizzas
1000% was waiting for a "I fought a war for yous!" from the old guy that walked up
Still funny 😁
such on point reviews, your fan base in south africa is growing Dave
Been a fan for about 5 years now.... I'm still waiting for Dave to come to SA and do some reviews here tho😅
Everyone knows that was a 5.2 at best but Dave was swayed by the wrist grab.
Exactly
Nah, that's a legit score for that pizza. Used to be a 8.1 but it's gone downhill
@@marcussavina2726 it’s all opinion honestly
I live just a block away. It’s actually really good but I don’t have it all the time
When an Italian woman grabs your arm she means business. Dave felt that with that score.
Love the One Bite Reviews! If you can swing by St. Louis, would love to see you try Pizzeoli.
D'Amato's is def about the sandwiches. I never heard of someone getting their pizza
40 years ago in a Chicago suburb there was a place with something like this they called a 'walking pizza'. Nice memories.
If you make your way up to Milwaukee, must try Barbieres Pizza. I think according to your scale it would be an 8.2. Arguably best pizza in Milwaukee. And by far best garlic bread I've ever had. Thank you Dave and Barstool
Agreed and Barbieres kicks the crap out of Ballestrari and I'll have words with anyone who says otherwise. But best? I have a soft spot for Catero's. Grew up right down the street and still crave it to this day.
he was in milwaukee like a month or so ago and went to 3-4 places if i remember. was hoping he'd do more but beggars cant be choosers.
Prez! Circle Tavern in Elmwood Park and Grand Stand in Franklin Park. Great local spots! Love all the Chicago content
This guy and Pizza Review Joe have the pizza game locked down.
This guy?
Dave's a man of the people everybody knows the rules ❤
Was at D'Amato's last Sunday. And Bari to buy some Sausage. Bought Bread, some Pastries, and a couple slices of Pizza. Which I've had many times before. It's OK,, like mentioned, more like a Focaccia, very bready, soft tasty. The best Bakery Pizza of all (and Italian Bread) was Masi's Superior Bakery, Western Ave at Taylor St. While there might be, I'm unaware of any other such Bakeries in Chicago making this style?
Love the setting
My recollection. That style is something that was made at home and put out on the table on Saturday’s. You could get it at your local Italian baker as well.
My Mother literally lives like 1 mile away from there. The selection of Italian cookies are amazing. Great sandwiches also.
My favorite bread 🥖 growing up in Chicagoland. Great stop.
Get it Dave! Man of the people!
Been going to this place for years.great bakery and great pizza
It’s so good totally underrated
Dave is just being nice. Their pizza is 5.8 at best. He was correct on the subs though. Outstanding
One bite, everyone’s getting a 7.1 or better after the Dragon Pizza review
yooooooo their sammys are the greatest!!!
A bakery tomato pie is in its category . It's all about the bread and sauce. You can either have it 2 ways, fresh out the oven or cold out the fridge, no in between
D'Amato's Bakery is great. Been around for about a hundred years. There's a place called Coal Fired Pizza just West of there that makes great artisan pizzas in 90 seconds but is only about 13 years old. In the next block or two. Grand Ave is one of Chicago's 3 Italian neighborhoods. Taylor Street and Oakley Avenue being the other two.
Yea Boy
I used to own an A room comedy club. It always amazed me how often a comedian would be crushing the room, but then get all bent out of shape at the one person in the crowd that wasn't into the show. The fact Dave is at peace with the 1 in 15 douchebag ratio made me chuckle, but also shows amazing self efficacy and why he truly is El Presidente and a man of the people.
If i had daves life i could go as far as accepting 1 out of 9 people thinking i was a bit douchie... you cant win them all... but you sure can buy a lot!
Dave should try LaScarola at 721 West Grand Ave or Volare on East Grand Ave for some of Chicago's best Italian restaurants. Gio's Cafe at 27th and Lowe in Bridgeport also terrific.
Yes
This is the best spot in Chicago. Not know for their pizza but it’s amazing
i have been searching for tomato pie in chicago for almost 15 years! gonna hit them up this weekend
One bite Thursday is done!!!
I was fully expecting a 6.4 at most
“…And the bolognese and all of that”
That’s merch right there
That "douchebag" callout sounded like it came from a place of love though. 😂
That was future Dave, walking by faking a bite, at the precise time everything changed in the history for El Presidente. We're in a timeloop.
Then 1 out of 15 should keep it movin’ because El Prez is a legend and legitimate force to be reckoned with responsibly.
Keep doing you man fuck the haters. Love your work. It's cause of you I'm going from Wisconsin to jersey for pizza in January for my birthday. Home the same day. Yep flying out for pizza and I'm out. Dalousis I think? Slaughtered the name probably
DeLucia’s?
Yes, my wife's awesome she's flying me out to jersey for like 6 hrs and were going back. She taking me for my birthday
I love the behind the scenes
Great review 7.33🎉
Al Pacino walking behind Dave and wanting pizza, everybody knows the rules.
Lived by this place for years. I didn't even know they had pizza. 7.3 is a great score for this joint.
As someone who would eat pizza everyday if it was my choice, next time you’re in Chicagoland try Linda’s Pizza Joliet, I think you’ll like it. You’ve hit most of the spots in Chicago already, maybe try Fox’s or something but Linda’s is big time
My Italian grandmother makes pizza just like it. Thick and a little on the soft and doughy side and cut with a big pair of scissors. But the sauce is spectacular.
Classic D’Amato’s pizza bread…miss the old neighborhood!
Wish Dave would come to my town
First off, its pronounced DEE amatos. and why they didn't say one of the coolest parts of the bakery. They ahwbe one of the very few brick ovens that was grandfathered in when Chicago stopped allowing them. Its a coal fired brick oven that is almost 130 years old!!! They use so much olive oil on the focaccia and the pizza, its amazing! And the key is to get a side of giardinera from Baris next door. Back is known for Chicago style Italian subs. Get the marinated eggplant with giardinera. They sell the marinated eggplant and giardinera in Ball glass jars. Its the real deal for sure! No gatekeepers here. Great family owned business that deserves any good coming from this video. Enjoy!!!
I'm sorry for the typos, I was excited. Bari is the name of the Italian grocery and sandwich shop right next door.
There's a place in Woodbridge Ontario!
Nino D'Versa!
A bakery just like this.
Been going there 45 years, pizza's OK, veal sandwiches are the bomb!
That 7.3 is a disservice to every legit pizza joint he’s ever given a 7.3 to.
If you get to small towns in the midwest, manny's pizza in savanna il. Super thin, crispy, square cut. Try with the salsa on it also.
As a Brooklyn native I can tell you that bakery pizza is special and best eaten cold.
@xahst You are thinking about regular pizza, which I agree is best hot out of the oven. This bakery-style pizza on the other hand, is very good room temp, or even cold. It's got a softer crust, and less cheese, almost closer to a focaccia. Hard to describe if you haven't had it.
This is what we used to eat at my grandmas house on sundays. Before dinner. Then with our salads after dinner.
Sleeper Pizza tip - Edison Park Inn in Edison Park. Wood-fired. Pub classic. Eat it once a week.
PS - Tony’s Deli around the corner has the best sub sandwich in Chicago.
