Thanks so much for testing .8mm with 11mm steel . I'll be making up some 25-15mm tomorrow . Be interesting to see how durable they are compared to 25-20mm . Looking forward to seeing the different tapers with the 11mm . Thanks again .
Thank you as always Mark, I am short draw and mainly shoot 8mm steel and sometimes 3/8 steel. So for 8mm I should use .5 band thickness. What about the .6 and .7 what is mainly recommended for them bands.
Good to see you testing some thicker bands! Personally I love how much harder the bigger ammo hits! It would be interesting to know just how much taper effects band life, because even with 25 to 20 i still seem to be replacing them regularly! Cheers mark
Here is the thing.... overpowered bands will wear out faster because it is like dry firing them. This damages the bands. Extreme tapers will wear out quickly. There is a sweet spot for bands that will give you good speed and longevity. It all about matching your bands to ammo.
I had extra bands that were 50mm wide at top to 20mm bottom...I folded em over... a single band...OTT frame...shot way farther and harder than 3 bands...
Brother, thanks for taking time to do this! Love them templates! I don’t always wear safety glasses when I shoot but I always wear a cup. You can never be too safe! 😂 Great video as always brother!👊💥🙏
Great shooting Mark 👏 25/20 .7 bands with 9.5 steel is what i mostly shoot but very interested to see what taper i could go down to whilst still being able to use for hunting but also give the liter draw to stop hand shake
I use 9.5 steel and I'm mostly using 1mm precise with a 14/8 taper so very thick latex but not wide at all. It shoots very fast with no shaking problems, it's killing everything I shoot it at with headshots and the bandsets are lasting a long time. Don't think I'll go back to thin bands tbh.
Tapers really make a big difference. Since I have been exploring band tapers I have really found matching band tapers and thickness to the proper ammo makes all the difference. There is a sweet spot you need to find that will give you a comfortable draw with good speed and itnwill improve overall performance and accuracy.
Hi , I use bsb .75 cut 20-15mm with 9.5mm steel as a light set up . For pigeon and squirrels it's good out to 15m . I.ve got snipersling .7 cut 23-17mm that's light and fast with 9.5 steel . Again head shots only out to 15m . Don't know if that helps , good luck with your hunting .
very educative video, i would like to see if you can compare different taper and thickness but with the same rubber weight. From my last "taper adventure" i found that my 24-16 0.5mm thickness have the same result as 15-10 0.7mm thickness band, both have the same rubber weight, tested with 8mm (i am more to target shooter than hunting soo 8mm are my largest ammo). im very curious how this "rubber weight" applied to other heavy band. (pardon for my english)
The most devastating hunting setup I have found for short draw is 25-15 .7 snipersling with 7/16 steel. Its not over heavy but it puts a smack down on just about anything.
Ya 25-15 is the best all rounder for heavy bands in my opinion. I don't know why 25-20 is so popular. Heavy draw, slower speeds....maybe its a longevity thing 🤔
I think it's because of the heavy draw and no chronograph people think its faster. Like people used to put bigger springs in airguns thinking harder to cock and more recoil = more power
oh its definitely longevity. I mean really a set of 25-20s will almost get double the shots of a 25-15. so you sacrifice all those shots for maybe 15fps really.
Oh ya thats true but I want to check the speed. In my opinion for a hunting band speed and velocity should be the primary concern. The faster you can get a large projectile going the cleaner the kill will be. For target shooting I would not choose a band this size.
For what it is, classy testing. Gamekeeper hunts with 30 x 25. Muscle man. 25x12 will push 8mm well. Not 9.5 or 11mm. Different story with 25x17 or 25x18. Mark, you are becoming like live ENCYCLOPEDIA. Every video is enjoyable. ENZO is a good frame, but I can hold it only in a hammer grip, a little strange to me. Keep them coming, those really educational videos. Looks like Canadian Spring finally arrived.
I found the same results when I switched to my 25 x 13 sharpen taper band sets. No real speed difference or longevity of the bands but the nice thing was if I had a small tear near the end I could cut it off even again and have the exact same taper as the longer bands. Other than that they seem the same to me.
Glad to hear the test pull accident got you in the face instead of the eye! The silly little stuff is what gets you when things go sideways. Even just for a moment! Don't ask me how I know! Nice shooting. Interesting test.
Im more accurate with theraband for some reason, seems to have a less harsh draw and release to it. Currently shoot 30-20 but would love to see the theraband at 30-15 to see if there’s any difference in speed. Love the channel 👍
Hey my friend I just bought Omega white bands in .5 and .6 and .7, can you please tell me the diferance in the 3 band sets. Which one is more powerful and what do differant thicknesses do in shooting. Thank you il wait for your responce buddy.
Well you would want to match your bands to your ammo. If you shoot 8mm steel .5 is a great band for that short draw. .6 is a good band for 8mm and can be used for 9.5 mm steel depending on the taper short draw. .7 will bring the heat for 9.5mm steel but is too overpowered for 8mm steel. You could really trim the tapers to shoot 8mm steel but you are better off using the right bands like .5 for 8mm. Basically thicker elastic for bigger ammo. If you shoot long draw or Butterfly .5 will work for 8mm and 9.5mm steel
Ya I did but I've worked in the steel industry for 22 years and I only started wearing gloves in the last 6 or so. Hand slap is like foreplay now. I'm used to it. Doesn't really bother me at all unless I hit a fingernail
I wish that you test that regular tapers draw weight including sharpened tapers draw weight. That would be good to know and identify to match with the exact ammo size..
Enjoyed watching your video. At the moment l am using Theraband just because l want to improve my accuracy as l just got started a few months ago. I am using 25 20 taper because they last longer. I am looking forward to your video on Theraband bands.
You can become consistant and accurate with theraband but they are a very low performance band compared to whats out there these days. You may find that if you decide to change bands your accuracy will be off or shooting high. That is because the bands are shooting way faster. I would suggest switching to one of the many popular bands to start off with. You will have better performance.

I am wondering if you tested draw weights and, if so, whether you saw the same thing or not. I am also curious for some of the specifics for your test- i.e. draw length, band active length, etc..
For these tests I always max out the bands. So I test the elongation, then ÷ by my draw length (76.2cm) to give me my active band length. I add 1cm for pouch attachment and what I need for fork attachment. When done right the bands will stop dead at my anchor. I did not measure the draw weight but I did notice a difference in the draw with the sharpened tapers. The lighter draw should lend its self to better accuracy.
