Comcast sucks but this is a problem with all ISPs because you'll never get the advertised speed unless you're literally hooked up to their hardware; all ISPs have their own access points across your city/town. The further you are from it, the slower the speed.

My experience with Xfinity has been a terrible one. First, they did something that fried my $500+ router/modem that I bought to accommodate the 1.2-gigabit service and I have been dealing with slower speeds that my older router supplies. I called to set up to use one of their rentals rather than pay $500+ for a replacement. The next day I went to my local store during my lunch break a 35-minute drive only to find that they closed the office because their system was down. Left work early so I could make it to the store before they closed @ 5pm only to find out that they couldn't give me a router because the person on the phone from the day before didn't put in the order and they couldn't put in an order for me so I could be on my way. I asked them to call Customer Service to place the order and they said they couldn't. I called while at the counter and after about 20 minutes of trouble with the agent on the phone, I finally was handed a new router. I get home to install and everything you mentioned was in the box except the only thing I don't already have. That's right, no power supply was in my box. I will have to repeat the pain in the azz of missing my lunch break to run back to the Xfinity store to most likely have to argue my way into getting them to give me a router. You can bet your azz that I will be opening the box to make sure everything is included before I leave the store. I hate Xfinity. If there was another option for me to get high-speed internet from a different provider, I would have left them a long time ago.
On some real shit they are garbage dude, phone companies are about to start selling their own wifi routers etc so I hope it’s better and cheaper because fuck that bro, I don’t get why I need to go through all this unnecessary shit
Yeah I was on the phone 2hours explaining & issue & after sheer exhaustion I googled something & hot the solution & fixed my own problem. So then I get my new gateway, set it up & use as usual. Less than a WEEK, I get an email saying I'd reached my data limit. I've had wifi for a good 20 urs & a LOT of devices that use it & never once reached that 1.2TB limit EVER. Called to find out why, got the solution the same way I did b4. She kept saying well this is higher speed so it's better, lady I understand gig speed my complaint was they didn't account for change in gig speed running through a month of data in 5 days. Why would I not expect this to be taken into account for a modem I didn't even request. I got it bcz my old one kept going in & out one night & I work online. I called , he ran a diagnostic test & said the modem I had was obsolete & they should have requested I get another sooner. So he said he'd send a new one bcz he saw our local one didn't have any . I asked if anything would change bcz I didn't want to pay more he said no everything would be the same just faster internet. I even remarked then our speed was pretty fast didn't really need that but if it's part of it, it is. Then BOOM, data limit in a week because of the higher speed on a product I didn't request. Literally just needed whatever came after the modem I had or at the very least, leave my speed where it was bcz in the next call, the lady said "ok I'll switch u back to..." whatever speed we had. So they raised my speed without permission then was going to give me more data & charge me for it without my requesting it. Hatem, haHated,, HATE THEM!

Thanks for the video. But I see where the cords go on the box but my issue is where do I place the cords at the other end? I know the power cord go in an outlet but not sure where to place the coaxial and the Ethernet cables
The other end of the coax cable should plug into a female coax connector somewhere on your wall or there may be a coax cable on the wall with a male connector end that you plug into the modem. As for the ethernet cables, those plug into your devices like a computer, smart TV, game console, etc. They're not absolutely necessary as you can use wifi, but its best to plug in your devices for the best speed and reliability. Wifi is easy, convenient, usually fast and reliable, but it is a radio frequency that is susceptible to interference.
They gave me a coaxial cable and a power cable in the bag. Once I plug them into the Xfinity box, and plug the power cable into the wall, what do I plug the other end of the coaxial cable into??

This is a very helpful video. I will have enough confidence now to try this myself. But I have one question, if you're still monitoring comments on this video. You pointed out there are four Ethernet ports on the back. But one of them has a red stripe next to it. Looking inside that port, there is a letter "G" in there. Is that port for some particular use? Thanks in advance.
There's no such thing as a wifi jack since by definition, wifi is wireless. There are wifi mesh networks you can install. They work in a pair. You install a base unit near your Xfinity gateway and the receiver unit near where you need more wifi coverage. The receiver unit acts as a wifi network and allows you to get better coverage. These are pricey though. The ideal way is to run an ethernet cable from your wifi router to upstairs, preferably a central location and install a wifi access point.
Thank you! A few directions that I did receive came in another language, thus I decided to find a video. I would not have known to download an app. Your directions made this so easy. Though, it seems that I don't have to do anything with the yellow ethernet cable. I really appreciate this video you made.
You need the actual signal to get into your house. With Comcast that is through a coax outlet. Make sure you can get the service at your address and you may need a professional install.
Before you run the app and setup the router, do you require to connect to another wifi and if you are in a new connection and there is no other wifi, how your app can connect to the internet to do the setup ??
The modem initially comes with its own user name and password. The easiest way to change it is by using the Xfinity app and using the QR code on the bottom of the modem and follow the instruction to change your modem user name and password. My video doesn't go through this entire process. If you have any issues setting up the app and modem I recommend you contact Xfinity. Hope that helped.
@@HowToWithGEO if its blinking orange she need a technician that means line is dead .if the line is active after load for 10 minutes the light should blinking white which indicated the line is active after activation the light should be solid white.
Yes since Comcast delivers internet service via coax. Exception would be if you happen to have their fiber internet which is unlikely as it is very expensive and has limited availability.
No because this is a modem, router, and wifi access point in one unit. Most providers sell/rent/give you a gateway unit which includes all those features in 1 box.
Thanks! Seems I need a cell phone with this Xfinity App to connect to the internet OUTSIDE of the equipment i am connecting... makes sense. However, I do not have, nor will I get a cell phone, so hoping their is an alternate way.
The one port marked with the stripe Orange is highbandwidth for gaming. Or you can connect that off to another switch or wifi router so everything is at full band
Great video, thank you so much for putting this together! But I'm curious, is there any way to complete the setup process without a smartphone? I just got my Xfinity equipment today, but I don't have a smartphone!
I believe you can also do it with a computer. Either with an ethernet connection or using the wifi from the modem. You will need to refer to the code number on the bottom of the unit to set it up using a computer, since you can't use the QR code.

@@zaythabugg877 I ended up having to take my router back. The one they gave me wasnt working properly. I also had to get my mother to Karen her way through the customer service to get my new router connected.
See that’s great but I need to know where the comcast cord goes into the wall???
If you plug the coax cable into the modem, how do you also plug the coax cable into the xfinity cable box for cable tv?
You'll need a coax splitter. I don't have any in particular to recommend though.
They gave me a coaxial cable and a power cable in the bag. Once I plug them into the Xfinity box, and plug the power cable into the wall, what do I plug the other end of the coaxial cable into??
We just got this one, every cord is connected, the black box says the time, but the modem white tower is blinking and the tv won’t turn on. What do I do?
For the yellow cord where did you hook it up from modem to wall?
Do I have to use the comcast coax cable if I have one in my house already ready first time using this service
yes it comes with one
everybody this video is for people who are lucky to have an avtive cable line in there home if you never get blinking white light after 20mins of installation of coaxes cable your going to need a tech visit .
That mane had two cords Ethernet and phone and I only have one. But the old router just needed the hookup I have. I'm so lost mane
@@Beelevy12345 ok ethernet cord has nothing to do with installation you just need coaxial cord coming out of the wall ethernet cord is for faster internet speed after activation 2 PC or laptop
Thank you so much, never would’ve figured this out
4:15 Does it just kind of blink on and off, or does it really blink on and off?
Thank you I thought I had a bill unpaid or my internet was cut out the light description in the beginning already answered my issues
Is the fan on the black one supposed to be constant running?
Super helpful. Succinct yet effective.
If I buy this do I have to have cable for the wifi to work? I just want to buy it so I can have my own internet in my college dorm on campus. I plan on using an Ethernet cord and connecting it to my game. Just asking to see if I can make this purchase without having to have a coax cable in it.
Maaaan thank you so much! This was super helpful.
Great instructions, complete and easy to understand, thanks!!
Orange blinking light help won’t go away and won’t connect
THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEO I WAS READY TO TOSS THIS MODEM OUT 3RD STORY WINDOW UNTIL YOU HELPED ME GET MODEM ACTIVATED !!
I have this same box I’m trying to improve my wifi upstairs do you have any recommendations? Or a way to get the wifi Jack upstairs
I really appreciate this video you made.
how did you get it i was told id have to drive to one of the comcast shops to get a new one
Mine won’t find the modem what does that mean
Any tips on how to best take advantage of the single 2.5 GB port? What device should I plug into that one?
I had to get a new modem because my old one didnt work. when I received the new modem the cox cable is too short. can I use my old cox cable?
Is there a way to do it wirelessly with the gateway instead of using a coax cable? I have no coax outlets
You need the actual signal to get into your house. With Comcast that is through a coax outlet. Make sure you can get the service at your address and you may need a professional install.
@@delobster7711 I'm having this issue too and was really confused why the set up wasn't working so thank you 😭
Before you run the app and setup the router, do you require to connect to another wifi and if you are in a new connection and there is no other wifi, how your app can connect to the internet to do the setup ??
Absolute legend, thanks
The modem has no lights. How do you get feedback? Single center light must have colors?
Does the television run off this gateway as well, or does that need another box?
Please tell us why there is a red line on the Ethernet port at lower right corner.
Does the third generation xb7 gateway put out a stronger Wi-Fi signal then the gray Xb6?
Thank you! What would be so hard for xfinity to do this?
One of the ethernet connections on the back of the modem/router has a red line. What does the red line mean?
You didn't show us where to plug the other cables into the back of the TV.
Cuz thats just common sense
mine has only been blinking orange and when i try to find my modem on the app it says we couldnt find it
same
The modem initially comes with its own user name and password.
Can I use my old coex cable from my old modem or do I need to use the new one that came with the package?!
yes you can
Thank you. Made install a lot easier.
Does that 2.5GB port work with a 2.5GB switch??
Question. If I am just getting the box strictly for internet do I still need to install coax cable ?
Yes since Comcast delivers internet service via coax. Exception would be if you happen to have their fiber internet which is unlikely as it is very expensive and has limited availability.
Since it has built in Wifi do you think for a smaller place you’d need a router?
No because this is a modem, router, and wifi access point in one unit. Most providers sell/rent/give you a gateway unit which includes all those features in 1 box.
Where does the other end of the yellow cable go 😫
thank you. the app wasn't helpful and there was a connection issue while setting up but you showed me I was doing things out of order
Do you need to have an xfinity mobile phone to do this?
So it just keeps blinking orange it won’t turn white
Thanks! Seems I need a cell phone with this Xfinity App to connect to the internet OUTSIDE of the equipment i am connecting... makes sense. However, I do not have, nor will I get a cell phone, so hoping their is an alternate way.
Can u still use the app and install it all with no service at your house.
The one port marked with the stripe Orange is highbandwidth for gaming. Or you can connect that off to another switch or wifi router so everything is at full band
Why is more than a gig port needed? Does cable get over a gig?
Great video, thank you so much for putting this together! But I'm curious, is there any way to complete the setup process without a smartphone? I just got my Xfinity equipment today, but I don't have a smartphone!
I believe you can also do it with a computer. Either with an ethernet connection or using the wifi from the modem. You will need to refer to the code number on the bottom of the unit to set it up using a computer, since you can't use the QR code.
@Oceanswap What do you mean? I signed in and left a comment, lol. Sorry, not sure what you're asking.
@@bradfordvanarnum7892 he has assumed you are not able to access internet completely, which includes you don’t have a mobile service provider for internet as well
@Oceanswap you can use other devices other than a smartphone to use the internet lol you must be a kid.
How do you not have a smartphone wtf
Mine just came via UPS, gonna hook it up later, thanks for the instructional vid.
Out of curiosity, have you noticed any improvement in speed, coverage ?
Update!!
I used to get about 400mps with the old modem, now I’m getting 700+ with the new one!
How long did it take?
@@gdxseraph3175 about 4 days, including a Sunday
I set mine up last year with no coaxial cable and now its asking for one but there isnt one in my home any tips?
I want to do a manual setup, rather than using an app on a smart phone. I want to disable the gateway and just use this as a modem only. I have an Orbi mesh network with outside satellites, so I don't want the gateway function of this device. Can you help with that?
I guess that's my question too ... . Barbara - 9 months later - do you know? - can the WiFi be disabled? thanks
@@Cliff-Notes I've yet to call Comcast and get help with this, so the new modem is still sitting on the shelf. LOL I was able to setup the old modem to disable their WiFi and use my Orbi instead. When I get it setup, I'll update here. If you do, please share with me. :)
