Ash really, can't control the evolutions. The pokemon themselves seem to be able to control their evolutions, unless the trainer forces them to evolve.
I know that cyndaquil and phanpy didn't evolve into Quilava and donphan in johto, but I think using their evolutions would have been much better due to the weaknesses of the team

Because you're crossing the games cannon (a jrpg) with the anime (generic shonen anime). Pokemon in the anime are able to choose whether to evolve or, not. Same in the Pokemon adventures manga with Poli (Reds Poliwrath) that saved Red when he was drowning and evolve from a Poliwag to a Poliwhirl to grow arms to save him.
The amount of time it takes to dedicate to playing an rpg like this and you sound like you really could care less.. wheres the oomph man? I enjoyed this nonetheless
in crystal clear, a mod of pokemon crystal version, you can approach the gym leaders in any order you want and the difficulty is scaled to you. this video reminds me of what i found frustrating about this game and what i appreciate about crystal clear.
I'm pretty sure all his Pokemon except mabey Phanpy is a male & his Chikorita was a female also his Noctowl was a shiny caught in Ilex Forest not caught as a Hoothoot & lastly his Totadile was caught in a Lure ball.
Funny enough he didn’t use it in any gym battles but neither did he use Phanpy in any either. He also gets phanpy much later. Still great run def increases the difficulty.

yeah, it would've made it a little more interesting, but of course, me being me, I wanted to make it as hard as possible
