If these things happen, movie theaters & physical media & pirating will thrive once again.
This will just result in people pirating stuff way more
Running back to physical media lol
@@Rezaru-pr7us You can still plug external DVD players into PCs and laptops. It's just a regular USB drive so I don't see that going away.
My physical collection has vastly increased im dumping streaming
@@Rezaru-pr7us wrong. So your telling me when playstation and xbox keep making system new tvs won't be able to plug them in?
@@jd899 what about people who can't afford streaming service I'm talking poor or homeless peopke?
@@Rezaru-pr7usGame consoles aren’t going anywhere, lol
It's not going to work nor be sustainable. People don't have this kind of money. People are not getting paid enough to support these models. If streamers actually try this, it will crash and we will all be poorer for it.
Honestly, all this shit is just going to drive piracy back up. When I was younger, I couldn't afford anything, so I downloaded everything from the high seas.
Streaming meant I didn't have to do that anymore, I could also afford it and it made access to the content extremely easy, which pretty much buried piracy.
current economics make it so I can only afford to pick one, maybe two streaming services on top of all my other expenses (at the moment). There are now so many services, how do you know where to go to get and watch the shows you want to see? I don't have the time or desire to go out of my way to look that up.
With cost and accessibility now becoming pain points, its making piracy relevant again, I can just search for the show and get what I need in far fewer hops, at higher quality ... for free.
Netflix while watching your video. “Write that down, write that down “😂
They’ll put themselves out of business. I’m moving to just one service at a time. They keep raising prices, I keep canceling services.
I pay for two. Disney and HBO. If either jump up to $20 a month I'm done. That is my cut off and I'm sticking to it.
I have 3 streaming services. I kept Netflix after the password crackdown and got my mom her own account which I pay for. But I never lost touch with my roots of plundering the high seas. I'll be back there full time if these streamers get too stupid.
I guess this means less streaming and more reading physical books, going outside, spending time with family, etc for me then.
We need to encourage physical buying again. I still buy physical media. I do stream but I still buy physical media.
I stick to healthy gym better don't to deal with stupid streaming
This is all absurd. Their model is to make sure you pay your monthly fee and forget about it so you don't cancel. If you keep getting reminders of things you can't watch or have to add more money to, then you will make the effort to cancel. They want you to turn on Netflix and just keep it rolling without thinking about it.
That just means I will be pirating more content. I only have Netflix for it's convenience, and there's only so much I'm willing to pay for that.
The credit system John is talking about will decrease the paying subscribers by at least half for every streaming service. People are already started to get fed up with streaming but credits would be the final nail in the coffin for subscribers.
Jail broken fire sticks and other ways to pirate movies are far too easy for the average person. Most people won’t deal with this BS. Fuck em
I honestly think it would be more than half. That would kill the biggest perk in streaming
If the credit system becomes a real thing, PIRACY is going to skyrocket my friends!
that was my thought exactly 💯 plus they will have a unlimited credit package like data has now 😅
That credit system would kill streaming
This is why physical media remains superior
I've cancelled most of my streaming apps and haven't looked back.. if they go the credit route I'll probably cancel all of them. Its getting ridiculous
Aren't you the biggest Simp for corporations.
That's just gonna make pirated content boom again.
It never stop booming 😭
Watch what you want when you want it? Physical Media
No ads? Physical Media
Pay once, own forever? Physical Media
No cuts/edits due to societal whims? Physical Media
ABSOLUTELY !!!
i see in the future, the rise of Pirating...
If they introduce credits. People will cancel the service and not come back
Bet Rob's sitting there humming (or screaming) "Physical Media!!" "Physical Media!!" "Physical Media!!" "Physical Media!!" "Physical Media!!" to himself haha.
This is why I stick to the best and only premium streaming service. 123 movies….
Tea tv
I remember a time when I couldn't afford to pay for everything I viewed and just pirated it. While I don't plan to go back to that, I 100% guarantee the pirate industry will BOOM again.
I can see the sign up fee being a thing, but the credit system would kill streaming on the spot. I dont think that one can ever be justified
It’s a pirate’s life for me. 🏴☠️
Dang it, John! If these streaming services executives weren’t already thinking about doing this then they are watching this video and taking notes now. 😆
If the credit system is used, then I am done with streaming services. It feels like the in-game purchases.
yo ho yo ho a pirate life for me
If they added all this crap then streaming is dead to me. Sign up fee and credit system defeats whole purpose of getting the subscription in first place.
sadly piracy will go through the roof , because even now piracy has not gone anywhere and if streaming services do not get there act together , it will just increase
DVD will forever be king
His argument about the credit system makes no sense. Comparing Audible is like apples to oranges. You on the audible book. Streaming wants you to watch as much as possible…in the ad tier. The more you watch the more they make. Bad take on that point.
You want to drive everyone back to pirating digital media? Do everything you've been talked about. The big thing that took the steam out of pirating media was that you COULD get everything in one place for a reasonable fee.
The whole time John was like "are you not gonna watch Shogun or the Last of Us?" I'm like "yeah, offline."
@@GoliathWarfare😂
That's why physical media will make a big comeback.
You're probably right - but I do see this causing a massive collapse in streamer services. I've already ditched everything bar RUclips, Netflix and Amazon. I could easily ditch another if it got more expensive.
The day sign up fees get introduced , you can find me sailing the high seas.
Let's not forget the Internet providers are going to start having Caps on data.
It's either back to cable or start sailing the seas
I know people who cut out streaming and went back to cable and just pirate all the streaming stuff.
That’s what I did after I paid for RUclips tv, Disney plus,Max and Paramount plus I was paying over 120 dollars so I went back to cable and pirate movies and tv shows from Amazon fire tv and my IPad
I was just watching a video where the guy was explaining the death of cable that Sports & Pharmaceuticals Commercials are what keeping alive the Cable once they are done with Streaming Services handing out Bundles for Sports & No Commercial policy for Pharma companies the cable might run out if its breath soon, all i can hope is it doesn't happen because this streaming future is getting out of hands.
Same as it was 15 years ago, only now I’m getting robbed by 6 different companies instead of just 1.
I plan to vote with my wallet,
No streaming company will see a penny from me , other than the monthly subscription cost.
Streaming companies should be looking for ways to increase value , not ways to nickel and dime your customers
Time to dust off those torrents. A pirate's life for me 🏴☠️
If they do credits I will 100% unsubscribe
All of this will completely push me away and just make me more of a physical media person. I don’t use half of what I have anyways. I’m never jumping through hoops like that just so I can have reruns paying in the background of my place. I watch more reruns than new stuff anyway.
They are not going to do all of this in a poor economy. People will revolt and cancel their services.
I don't see the credit system as John describing it working
On another note:
The pirates are coming.
Loving my physical media collection right about now 😊
This!! 💯
You have stranger things on dvd? Or some other streaming exclusive?
@TayNez63 nope! However, Stranger Things is available on physical media.
With that being said, I get where you're going with that argument as there are a ton of streaming exclusives that I'd be missing out on. Understandable. But if streaming approaches the extremes that John is referencing in this video, Id be happy to lean on my extensive collection of physical media. Now of course there would be exceptions and Id have to deal with it as I see fit at that time. There are definitely shows Im invested in that Im looking forward to their upcoming season, or movies etc. But at some point, Id have to draw the line.
This is how the pirates win!
1. Sign-up fees? I am already signed up for the streaming services I want. No impact.
2. Credits? I don't see that being a viable option, not for the viewer but the actual content creators. Because then there will be many shows/movies that will not get any or much less views and they will not want that contractual obligation. And if they say the big movie that is out will be $5.00 extra at least for the first month, then you just wait and watch all of the hundreds of other options and then that "big movie" doesn't succeed as much as they would have in the current process.
And then again, when these streaming services first started people were complaining about the cost but still pay. If there are incremental increases in the future and I am sure there will be, then guess what? People will complain and yet still pay.
I’m going to say this if they start doing a credit system and sign up fee it is going to be the most stupid thing because that is not how you make money off of these streaming services
I agree
From the very beginning, I always knew streaming would not become the eutopian of the entertainment industry. I know prices would go up (like with everything else). Ads would start getting in the way. Certain things would not be available forever. It was inevitable. Go, team physical media!
If it comes to that…. Ho Ho Ho a pirate life for me🎶🎶
I’ve never done it, I gotta figure it out without getting a virus
Am I going to pay $30, $40, or $50 to watch show/movie X, Y, or Z? No I'm not. I have to buy food and pay rent, utilities, insurance, etc. I will not starve my IRA or forgo health insurance so I can re-watch Game of Thrones.
The purpose of entertainment is to entertain and there is plenty of FREE entertainment in the world.
If streaming services do head down this route I expect you'll see a drop in members and a HUGE increase in pirated shows.
Shiiit, if that happens, I know I am 😅
I'll cancel it all, read more and enrich my life. I struggle to find anything to watch typically anyways. Tubi will reign
If they do this credits thing, then I'm gone.
I'm happy I have a big blu ray collection. Blu rays are dirt cheap now, 1,2 3 euros each where I am. So I'm prepared 😂
Greed ruins everything
Time to sail the high seas. 🏴☠️
I've been against pirating pretty much my entire life to support the artists. But these companies need to be humbled.
physical media
I have an antenna I bust out once a year just to watch the Oscars 😂
John avoided the elephant in the room which is the number one alternative streamers would try their hardest to fight which is piracy, let's be honest many ppl already went back to it when the password crackdowns happened across the board, sure there is a surge of subscribers at first but we will see that plummet as words spreads on alternative sites. With web browsers on all tvs ppl don't even use hacked fire sticks anymore, there might be a loss of quality for certain things but those ego care would just download the high def versions. Ijs with that being a opposing force in believe streamers will push the envelope just to walk it back
If you know what you are doing and what to look for. Sure there are plenty of people who will pirate but there are many many more who don't know anything about it or know what to do. I can count the number of people I know on one hand who know what to do. Everyone else is totally oblivious.
@@nelsonc6173I don’t know anyone who can’t pirate a movie. It takes a simple google search. Speak for yourself
Im sorry but the average internet user has no idea where to get stuff and how not to get notices from their ISP. The average google search is just gonna end up being some ad ridden, malware infested website. @@Inyourbox-kr5uf
Piracy is going to increase greatly. As long as people can get the content they want easily and cheaply, they'll pay for it. As soon as you start putting up red tape and hurdles, piracy increases. If these things happen, we're going to see a piracy boom.
Wouldn't that just cause pirating to go up? Most series are available on those sites
Credits?!?! Stop giving them ideas and saying it’ll be okay John!
People will simply cancel their streaming services then and go without
Yea I got cable again and only buy physical media 😂
Disney+ briefly tried the Premium Content thing with a couple of films in 2020 I think.
People will start pirating again. By the way RUclips is just as bad - if you pay for the premium service to have the adds removed, you still have to watch the sponsored ads that the content creators put in their videos (such as the John Campea Show). LOL
YT is getting extremely ridiculous with the ads.
Reading this comment meanwhile the harrys ad is playing
Ads like cockroaches will never die. They'll always find a way to infest your platform
Here is a scary idea. To avoid canceling your service. You enter a contract like your phone carriers. If you cancel in violation of your contract, you are charged a expensive fee...If that happens...its over.
I’m sooooooo close to canceling everything except my AMC membership.
This was my 1st thought as soon I saw this video.
Just Amazon for me...
Piracy is ever green.
NordVPN has no signup fee
Im down to just Amazon prime video....not paying for multiple streaming content.
Didn't Disney already do the (pay monthly and pay $10 extra for day and date) with black Widow and mulan??
That was different due to covid
@@ChildishGambeaner yea but they still already started charging extra for more benefits was my point.
@@Michael-Phantom yeah you're right tbh
I'll just keep my netflix subscription just like you can't help everyone I can't have all the streaming services it's just to much like you said John
Sign up fees yes, but I don't see how the credit system will come to pass. Making people do a bunch of math every month is a good way to get people to exit the system, and especially since they themselves benchmark things like "completion rate" that will go WAYYYYY down since people will be very aware of every episode watched could be something else. Imagine telling your investors about the collapse in viewing hours, which is how you used to brag about how well things were going?
The result of those strikes is gonna be, "pass the cost right to the consumer!"
This episode was brought to you by the cable industry. lol easy on the fear mongering
Aside from the credit system, I think they might try to do cancellation fees instead. So you have your monthly and if you try to cancel, it's an additional cost to combat those who don't commit to their service.
I don't need a 200 million dollar movie. I FELL IN LOVE with a 30 million Godzilla movie.
I'm just investing my money in books. I'll go back to reading and save all the money. Spent $100 bucks got the complete Expanse series of books, that's nine books, 450 pages, at 1 minute 30 seconds a page, that's 101 hours and 15 minutes of entertainment right there. I'll just stick with going to the movies.
Time for me to start sailing the seven seas with my homie Jack Sparrow
Lol argh 🏴☠️
Yup. Old school is New School again. Tell Jack to save a space for me. Fuck this nonsense.
Vote with your wallet people
No more of this nonsense
Just CANCEL it all ! Don't need them anyway in the long or short run... read a good book instead.
I only do RUclips without ads. Guess I'm "over" the need to see anything like you've described. Had an Apple+ free 3 months and made sure I unsubscribed on the last day. Ditched my cable/TV 14 years ago. Haven't missed it at all.
In conclusion, invest in a good VPN. 😅
My exact sentiment.
HA…the day that happens i will happily cancel all subscriptions and go back to regular cable and physical media no problem
I understand the sign up fees, but I really hope they don’t do the credits thing. That will really stink.
The justification for sign up fees was installation costs and equipment, nonexistent for streaming
I can get on board with most of these points, but the credit system is an absolute joke and I do not see that happening. They’re still cable companies and if it got that bad, everybody would just go back to cable they want extra money. They’ll just continue to raise their prices. They’re not gonna gouge by credits.
Credits would suck
Who you’re gonna’ call Ghost- yeah Block Busters
Bring them back now I want to buy dvd with annoying trailers before the movie, also bring back 90’s - 00’s Saturday - Sunday morning cartoons back! 🎉
I would venture to guess that the vast majority of people, who aren't online film/movie pundits, don't need to subscribe to every streaming service at the highest level. Ad tiers are NOT THAT BAD. You can watch a 43-minute episode of TV, which would fill an hour on cable, in 47-48 minutes. You're still saving time and watching at your own leisure. And for movies, ads are typically all at the beginning so put your movie on, grab a snack or take a quick dump, and then sit down and enjoy with no ads. I really don't understand the hysteria over streaming ads.
Pirates life for me
If they pulled this ish people will take to high seas and people will invest in plex servers
Netflix raises their prices, my wife and I said “byeeeee!”
