    AA's 757 was the last plane I flew on before being diagnosed with cancer, for that reason it'll always hold a special place in my heart that no other plane can occupy!

      +Vincetian Glad you enjoy the video :) I got the majority of the pre-flight procedures, it was a new experience for me preclearing to the US so I tried to have my camera filming for the majority of it.

    A packed plane, people coughing in close proximity, dirty old cabin appointments - I don’t think we’ll ever look at life the same way again after COVID-19. I hope air travel returns soon in the numbers that it needs to...I’m sure you do too, Noel.
    7 hours 45 minutes in a B757 with no IFE, that’s pretty gnarly. This is kind of how Transatlantic flying used to be circa 1965. Well, maybe 1995 as there are those fancy drop down screens! If DUB-PHL are ever connected again, it will be by A321neos with much more modern seats and IFE.

    Fascinating to watch this since I'm going to Dublin, next year! As with all airports...WHATTA HIKE! Traveling abroad & hassling with airport terminals, I always wish there was a SHOWER waiting form me once I clear security & get to my gate!

    • @noelphilips
      @noelphilips  8 лет назад

      Yep there's a lot of hassle at Dublin, especially when you're heading across the pond. You clear all your customs formalities in Dublin so when you arrive it's classed as a domestic flight, you can just pop down to your next gate! When I can, I like to check out the lounge too. It's great to relax and eat/drink in a quiet, comfortable environment and you can usually buy access for a pretty decent price if you're not a member, nice to spend an hour or so chilling out after the hassle of the airport!

    The ATC feature is great. I've seen these flights from Dublin landing at the Philly airport. There's some good spots to park near the runway to watch incoming flights arrive.

    You are very brave for doing this. I'm surprised no one in the airport, customs, terminal, and especially after you boarded, questioned your usage of a body-mounted camera. The window mount on the plane seems like less of an issue/risk as you are clearly taking aerial photography, and it's nice the captain let you keep capturing. But the before footage, you're brave for taking. Perhaps they didn't realize you were recording, although the Hero4 is quite big and noticeable. I wouldn't take the risk. People have been kicked off of planes and airports just for taking pictures. So an extra THANK YOU for bringing us along on this journey!

    • @noelphilips
      @noelphilips  8 лет назад +1

      Thank you for watching :) I try to be discrete when filming in airports, as I like to capture the experience 'as is' without people acting differently for the camera. For this journey I used my iPhone but these days I have a tiny GoPro Session that I carry or shoulder mount it, you can barely notice it :)

    • @QuantumBraced
      @QuantumBraced 8 лет назад

      It's not so much an issue of people acting differently as it is an issue of making people nervous/breaking rules and getting yourself in trouble. I don't believe you're breaking any rules, but often in airports/on airplanes it's enough for crew/law enforcement to simply decide you're doing something wrong and they can extend their power for any reason. Especially US-based carriers, I'd avoid those if I were you. So all the more reason you deserve praise, I love your videos! I'm guessing you had your iPhone in your front shirt pocket for this video-- still can make people nervous as it's not the most natural place to put it haha. But great results and amazing quality. The Session with a gibmal lock isn't the smallest thing, especially when mounted on your shoulder, far from inconspicuous, much more so than an iPhone. But it's such an odd contraption that most people wouldn't even realize it's a camera or that it maybe be recording, whereas everyone is familiar with a phone, so the phone may actually be riskier. Anyway, just some random thoughts. Keep up the good work!

    First fantastic video you always bring us the best stuff thank you ... Next... I do not fly often and never had a plane I was on return to the gate for mechanical issues but if I where on this flight and the captain came over the intercom with that somewhat unsure or maybe shaky voice saying when they started an engine there was an electrical problem.. I think I would have gotten off and waited for another flight. I am happy they resolved what ever it was. Thank you again for bringing us such fantastic videos

    • @noelphilips

      +Randy M Thank you for your comment :) Yep it was a little unnerving that they couldn't get the engine started on a twin engine plane about to cross 4,000 miles of water, but I guess most people were just frustrated with the delay more than worried. Thanks for watching :)

    I have been a loyal viewer of many of your flight videos, and thank you for all that you've posted! I do have a concern which seems to me to be a product of so may flights that you routinely take. That is, what sounds to me to be a chronic cough that you may have as a result of almost constant exposure to "airline air." It is with hesitation that I even mention it, but as a fan, I do not want anything to happen to you--a purveyor of probably the best of its kind airborne geographical and flight information in the world. Take care.

    I still can't fathom being in a 757 for an overseas flight that's crazy!! Have you heard about the BA A318 that operates out of JFK to LCY? Would love to see a vid on that

    • @noelphilips
      @noelphilips  8 лет назад

      We've had 757s on longer routes for some time in Europe, they have operated the Mediterranean vacation charters for many years, some of those are 5-6 hours long so it's not massively longer to be doing Transatlantic. I'd much rather be on an A330 or 777 though :( Yep I've been contemplating doing that one for a while, or even maybe Air Canada's A319 YYT-LHR, or WestJet's Dublin route on the 737. Would much prefer the business class on the A318 though :)

      I have flown from Auckland to Rarotonga in an A320-200, thats 3000km, the same distance flown overwater by most northern routed (newfoundland/ireland) transatlantic flights. Also there are lots of narrowbodies operating calif-hawaii flights which are 4000km ovewater. Its not strange at all.

    I am sorry that you had such a bad flight. I hope that you give AA another chance. I am glad that you choose to include the airport as part of your video as that is just as important of an experience as the flight itself in my opinion.

      @noelphilips  8 лет назад +1

      +Jeff d'Hedouville Thank you for your comment - glad you enjoyed the footage in the airport :) I found AA fantastic on their domestic services, I guess it is just the ex-US crews out of PHL, as we had the same kind of experience on the way back. :)

    Great video again. Quick question, since the flight path page won't open...did you proceed south east from Dublin on a 120 degree course? I'm sure I heard ATC say 'Go 120 degrees' and the captain confirming and then later south west on 280 degrees. Just curious as you must have flown over the Irish Sea for a while before turning right.

    • @noelphilips
      @noelphilips  8 лет назад

      +charcoalfender Thank you! I have 2 x 128GB MicroSD cards. This filled one of them, the flights either side of this (BHX-DUB and PHL-LAS) took up the rest! The ATC is from the LiveATC archives, which is why there's just ATC at Dublin and once we enter US airspace with Boston Center :)
