At 26:41 Lunatone attacked Zubat because when the AI estimated the damage for Psychic, it rolled a favorable range against Zubat and saw a KO on both targets, causing it to choose randomly.
Hidden power: With the fact you don't choose your DVs/IVs, it'd be a bit bad for a tierlist like your gen 1 one, but for an impossibles run I see 0 problem with it
Honestly, we probably should've been doing "designer" Pokemon from the start. If the question is "CAN" the pokemon do it, and we're asking about it's potential, seeing it at it's best sounds fair
@@1stCallipostleThat's when you watch Scott's Thoughts. In his solo runs he sets his pokemon's DVs or IVs to max or max minus whatever he needs for a good coverage Hidden Power type. Plus he does multiple runs to optimize the results as much as possible.

Maybe I'm missing something, but aren't the odds 44% (1 - (0.8*0.7))? And the other thing to consider is that while yes, the odds of 6 in a row is that low, JRose used Bite 14 times (I think). 6 in a row can occur 9 ways with 14 attempts, so the odds are either 3.04% (using your 38.75% figure) or 6.5% (with my 44% figure). I think for any "impossible" runs you should be aloud to have max IVs/whatever hidden power youd like. To say any challange is truly impossible it has to be under 100% optimal conditions.
The word "impossible" here isn't really meant literally; as you can see, he actually completes each of these runs. The rules you propose would make sense if his goal was to fail and thereby prove that the challenge is literally impossible.
It should not be optimal, and these arent meant to be 100% scientific. He treats these challenges as standard playthroughs, just with the starter being changed, no other cheats involved
Max IVs lock his hidden power type. So choosing a specific type with decent attack power will result in worse IVs. So they will each balance out anyway. The difference isn't going to be as big as you think anyway.

Now that may lead to some of you wondering "But what about Norman and Slaking randomly going for Yawn?" And yeah...yeah, that's a thing. But you see, sleep is a bit different from Paralyze, Poison, and Burn, it can end on any given turn, so it's treated slightly differently. It is thrown into the rotation of possible moves. Especially if it's acting second in a speed match up.
@@TC-pp7hx You are 100% correct. Then the only thing I can think of is it saw "hits self in confusion" on the roll and thus 0 damage. Which gives confusion an oddly interesting extra bit of power that I hadn't considered before. Thank you for correcting me. That gives confusion significantly more consistency as an ability as it's essentially functioning as gen 1 disable in a way.
Given Zubat's better attack, it could've been to your benefit to keep steel wing until the end and use it instead of hidden power. It likely would've done way more damage, and even with the miss chance, there's also the chance for a defense boost, so it could've made steven much easier.
I remember i had a hidden power electric on butterfree in GEN 2 Which is incredible because gyarados and rock types FOR OBVIOUS REASONS were problems IT was near perfect too as everything except attack n special defense were PERFECT and those were near perfect too I found out my odds of a butterfree that good were 1 in 60,000 If i had the skill i have now i would have beaten red around 80 to 83 range instead of level 95
You get a mandatory kecleon encounter immediately after getting the tm for hidden power, you can use colour change to get the exact type. Keep using it
@gendbend9933 I do wanna see Gen 4/5 runs as well but I definitely think backporting Honchcrow or Mismagius to gen 1 or 2 is badass! And occasionally MahDryBread does Gen 4 or 5 runs
Crobat was very useful in gen4, had decent special moveset like nasty plot giga drain heat wave sludge bomb air slash. In gen5 golbat can use eviolite roost superfang confuse ray etc.
Zubat is weak. But crobat is a beast. I ran crobat in competitive in sword and shield. My crobat beat so many pokemon and made so many players rage quit
I prefer your approach to hidden power over someone like Scott’s Thoughts (also a great solo runner, check him out). In his videos he controls the stats, hidden power and nature of his Pokémon. This is great for accurate comparisons and I love the way he displays so much information on screen but sometimes it’s a bit too scientific! I prefer the more relaxed Jrose approach to Mon stats, natures, hidden power etc as it feels more replicable at home. No hate to Scott’s thoughts- would defo recommend his videos; brilliant sense of humour and puts huge effort into making great content 👍🏻
16:27 As a Slaking fan, I feel the necessity to say that it does not have some of the best stats for a non-legendary Pokémon, it has THE best stats of any non-legendary Pokémon, not only in Gen 3, but still in Gen 9. A Base Stat Total of 670, exactly the same as Legendary Pokémon like Groudon, Kyogre, Lugia, Ho-Oh... It has a base Attack of 160, 10 points more than Groudon, an HP of 150, 100 Defense and Speed, and 95 points in Special Attack, which is still good for coverage. Its only weakness is its 65 Sp.Def, but not even that matters that much as its inmense HP makes it so one shotting it from the special side is almost impossible too... I hope we get a Slaking run in Gen 3 one day, even with its ability, I feel it's going to be a very fun run
It's crazy how to this day the Zubat line has a unique typing. Poison/Flying is such an incredible defensive type combination when used as part of a team, but solo it definitely runs into types it can't handle that well pretty often. Zubat for sure gets some pretty good moves but not a lot of them. Giga Drain, for example, is a really good coverage move and it helps it serve a defensive purpose on a team, or last longer in solo runs. Honestly Zubat and Golbat's biggest issue is their stats, and the fact that they didn't get many good STAB moves until Gen 4. Crobat is genuinely *really* good in almost every game it's available.
What wonderful timeline have i landed in where jrose uploads so frequently, im so well fed at this point i think I'm starting to gain weight. Thank you for your hard work.
At least, thanks to silly AI in Gen I core games, it had a chance against some strong trainers, like Lance, and some Pokémon don't even have Rock type moves, like Rhyhorn and Rhydon.
I love seeing the Zubat series continue, especially today on Halloween! Regarding Hidden Power, I think it’s perfectly fine for the impossible challenges series because they are primarily one off videos and much more difficult than the usual R/B solos, so having that potentially useful tool seems fine to me. However, if you started doing a tier list in later generations, then I’d err on the side of banning Hidden Power so that no Pokémon has an unfair advantage because they happened to get lucky (or you could create perfect IVs with whatever Hidden Power you need).
I absolutely love your videos. Wish I could like them all multiple times over. Keep up the good work, I always look forward to your uploads. That being said, I feel so lucky with the frequent uploads prior to the month of JRose! 😅❤

I remember i had a hidden power electric on butterfree in GEN 2
Which is incredible because gyarados and rock types FOR OBVIOUS REASONS were problems
IT was near perfect too as everything except attack n special defense were PERFECT and those were near perfect too
I found out my odds of a butterfree that good were 1 in 60,000
If i had the skill i have now i would have beaten red around 80 to 83 range instead of level 95
I don't know what we did to deserve so many videos from you, but I'm feeling pretty lucky! Another great video 😊
Jrose and AJ are on fire with these releases, every video an absolute banger, bravo
You get a mandatory kecleon encounter immediately after getting the tm for hidden power, you can use colour change to get the exact type. Keep using it
Jrose since backports have become so popular recently how would you feel about backporting Crobat and doing a run with it?
Honestly it gets old, I'd rather see solo runs in gen 4/5 instead, no one is doing those
@@gendbend9933 And nobody does gen 5 for a good reason. Without modding out the exp nonsense, soloing first-form is stupid boring for the runner.
@gendbend9933 I do wanna see Gen 4/5 runs as well but I definitely think backporting Honchcrow or Mismagius to gen 1 or 2 is badass! And occasionally MahDryBread does Gen 4 or 5 runs
@@gendbend9933anything after gen 3 sucks
Ah, yes. The Hoenn elite four: Cyanide, Bobo, Gracias and Dork,
The scariest parts about this Halloween Special were those Elite 4 pronunciations. 💀 Fweb caught me so off guard lol
Watched the video three times. I kept falling asleep. Granted I put it on before going to bed, but I wanted to finish the video.
Crobat was very useful in gen4, had decent special moveset like nasty plot giga drain heat wave sludge bomb air slash. In gen5 golbat can use eviolite roost superfang confuse ray etc.
I think Cyrus used one in Diamond/Pearl
@@jamesdandrea7284 yes also silver in hgss. Remember that the Pokemon have to love you but the feeling doesn't have to be mutual lol
Crobat is one of my favourite Pokemon it is viable in gen 3 at least according to me because I just love it. Also max friendship.
Love the ruby and sapphire runs! Thank you for putting this one ❤️
I'm really, really loving the consistent uploads recently, Jrose! Thanks for spoiling us ♡ I hope it continues! xD
Dang, this dude is good as hell at pokemon! These videos keep getting crazier, keep up the good work!
Zubats unironically one of my favorite mons. I love seeing it get so many runs
legit the best pokemon youtuber. Definitely the best personality of all pokemon youtubers. Thanks for another great vid Jrose
Jrose AND The Count? Yes!!
Wow a count von count impression! That’s how you know it’s going to be a good video! Love it!
Zubat is only legit good because of the fact that it eventually becomes Crobat, that's it lel.
Crobat is not even that good I'd rather use golbat with eviolite lmao... It's insane how powercrept the bat line is by gliscor
JROSE upload Monday completed
"Let's go battle SIDE-NIGH"
I legit can't wait to see how Zubat does across all games 😅
just got off work and there's a Halloween special? excellent/
Bro just use hidden power. No one cares.
What wonderful timeline have i landed in where jrose uploads so frequently, im so well fed at this point i think I'm starting to gain weight. Thank you for your hard work.
Nice to hear your Count von Count voice is coming along 🧛♂️
I've been enjoying all the recent drops of your videos lately!
Jrose has suffered mental anguish in this run for our amusement....and yet wants to do this run for every Gen. You're a good man
At least, thanks to silly AI in Gen I core games, it had a chance against some strong trainers, like Lance, and some Pokémon don't even have Rock type moves, like Rhyhorn and Rhydon.
Thank you for your pokemon videos as I really enjoy watching them and learning more about these games.
THE COUNT?! let’s gooooooo. don’t know why you stopped that but it’s still a JROSE staple for me. you are killing the uploads lately.
I really appreciate you listening to the viewers and correcting your pronunciation. It always drove me insane when people pronounce Phoebe as Phoebe.
I like your impressions. It makes me less depressed when I don't hear your intro song.
I enjoy Hidden Power as a part of the runs.
Also, appreciate the awesome content!
Every time Jrose starts a video with a Count impression I'm both scared and hoping he's doing it for the whole thing
I genuinely enjoyed and chuckled at your pronunciation of the Elite Four menbers :)
The week of Jrose was a real treat! Happy Halloween and thanks for the awesome content!
Snow came today. I needed this upload more than ever 🙌
This run is awesome. I'm actually really excited that you're digging into gen 3more. My brother is die-hard for gold/silver, but ruby/sapphire always has had my biggest fixation.
Treecko run in ruby for funsies? Keep it up!
0:45 - upcoming yearly Halloween tradition, is that you?
This was awesome! Happy Halloween!
Was going to watch Pluto but then this popped up. You are the best!!!
Happy Halloween, Jrose!

I am personally offended by your Elite 4 pronunciations today. Good work, keep it up.
Love the Sydney pronunciation, also I was only listening during the Wally battle and was confused when you said Sludge Bomb was the best attack vs Magneton, but I get you meant Shadow Ball
good to hear The Count again!
Let's go! Great video as always.
This Halloween Special Zubat run gets a OG Bug Catcher official stamp of approval! 👍
Happy Halloween everyone!!!
