I can so relate. In the early days of personal computers... I had just finished the first draft of a play... and lost the whole thing! I gave myself a couple of hours to blow off the stream of frustration... then sat down and began from scratch. I dare say it turned out better than the original. It taught me 3 valuable lessons... if you fall off the metaphorical horse... 1. Allow yourself a little time to vent... 2. Don't allow too much time to pass before you get back in the saddle... 3. Good plays can be written... but better plays are rewritten. Cheers and adventure on!
I am not sure how valuable the video you lost would have been, but hard to imagine it could have been more valuable than this one. This so much for doing it.
What a lovely comment, thank you so much... I hesitated to film this/post this, especially because I just put it together so fast, and worried that maybe I was 'venting' too much. But it's such a good reminder that we can try all we want to avoid the mistakes, but it's how we deal with them that really matters :)
Dear Nadine, to just put out a video like this one, feels so touching... you make contact with us, and just share what happened, and your disappointment - love it! PS. I saw earlier your comment and link to the video of Ginger Vicar, introducing 4 contenders for the best camino channel 2023... now, I've seen quite a few of yours, but not those other guys - so I checked out their styles in some of their clips, looked for strong and weak points, compared with your channel, and I have to say... 🪘🥁🪘 (drum rolls)... my favourite one is still yours! Without wanting to name (and 'judge') them here, I rather emphasize the points that are important to me, and that you overall embody best to me: - you are authentic, not too funny or upbeat, also showing the lows in it; - you share and talk about your experiences, so you take us on your journey of ups and downs, and your mood swings; - you emphasize the personal journey over brilliance of shots & filming skills (just to be clear: your videoing is very enjoyable, and completely satisfying) - you actually walk the caminos 'with us', rather than talking mostly about them To summarize: I also like the other ones, but in those points mentioned, you altogether 'make the cut' for me. Yeay Nadine - You rock!! Ultreya!
This was perfect for me to listen to right now. I’m going to walk the Camino in April, and although I’m excited, I’m obsessing about it with a lot of stress. I know things will go wrong, so I’m going to take a step back. I want to remember it is not about packing your backpack perfectly, it’s about the journey. So, thank you for your advice at this time! Time for me to enjoy the journey with grace!!! Buen Camino!!
I'm so glad the timing of this was good for you... and honestly, I can feel the same way while preparing for an upcoming trip/walk (even though I've done it a number of times!) I have to remind myself that, even when things have gone wrong, I always figured it out. You will too! Buen Camino!
Thank you so much. I am the king of beating up on myself, suffering from self-doubt and impostor syndrome. Have gone to therapy about it numerous times. This was a great reminder of allowing that human space for ourselves and self-forgiveness. It has been very elusive for me. Hope that on the Camino I remember that too.
Thanks for this perspective, and you're right... it's a chance to reflect and really sit with those feelings, and then share them here. Maybe more valuable than the collection of mistakes that I originally put together! (though I DO think that was a fun video...)
Good to see you treat yourself with kindness, after all you are a person, too. There's not much else to do except move on after a mistake. Fortunately this variety of mistake is the most common, but the easiest to get over.
This is such valuable advice! I am so hard on myself when I make a mistake. Perfectionism strikes hard! I have a tendency to keep mulling over the mistake - which doesn't help at all! When you say "give yourself grace" I take it literally. I have to try not to keep bring up the mistake to myself. Don't keep overthinking it. I have to very consciously replace those negative, self-recrimminating thoughts with something positive. It's not easy! But it is healing. Thaks for sharing. I love your positive attitude!
Things happen for a reason ... maybe. Easy to say that. Everyone makes mistakes however the mistakes I've made en Camino I would never change as it molded my Camino family which translated to FB friends for life. I hope to walk with some at some stage ...
I always look forward to your videos Nadine!! Keep up the good work. You always seem so put together on your Caminos that now I’m curious what mistakes you might have made! 😉great topic!
Oh just wait until you hear about all of my mistakes!! But I suppose they're spread out over a number of Caminos (so I can maintain the illusion that I have it all together, ha!)
Hello, Nadine. Yes, it must have been frustrating to have lost that video after so much work, but you are right ... give yourself grace and that is great advice, thank you. Buen Camino
I was planning to walk in September but, while training, my leg swelled and hurt a lot. I had a total knee replacement in October. Like your video, things may be postponed but will happen eventually.
I wish that were true, but what's lost is the narration that I did (sitting down in my spare room, talking for about 20 minutes). I'd taken those clips and strung them together and added extra video/photos... but ended up deleting the narration clips before the video actually exported (I know this is confusing, but in checking if there was any way to recover the deleted files, the answer was a big, resounding NO) Ah well, I'll just have to give it another go!
Sorry to hear about the Video , you realize you will have to go back and re film your mistakes again . Seems like a good enough excuse to go back to Spain 😊
Hahaha, well, I only deleted my narration of all the mistakes, so that's fairly easy to do again (I only need to go back to my spare room and not all the way to Spain... unfortunately!)

Oof, that must have been such a tough loss... but your advice is spot on. And I love your last point, that better plays are rewritten!!

Nothing is ever wasted, you learn't something from the mistake and that's the main thing :)
Whoops! staying warm in Australia, it’s well over 40C so love seeing the snow, beautiful. 🇦🇺👍

This video is actually so valuable. You bounced back with a heart-felt message, delivered mostly off the cuff. Much appreciated!

Good advice!
Hello, Nadine. Yes, it must have been frustrating to have lost that video after so much work, but you are right ... give yourself grace and that is great advice, thank you. Buen Camino
I'm just thinking about how frustration AND grace can both go together, and that it's all okay...
I was planning to walk in September but, while training, my leg swelled and hurt a lot. I had a total knee replacement in October. Like your video, things may be postponed but will happen eventually.
Yes, and we just have to roll with the punches sometimes... be patient and know that things happen beyond our control.
snow....woohoo
i have never seen snow in real life...
that was exciting for me....
👍🏽🙏🏿😁
Hey, don't beat yourself up! If you hadn't told us we'd never have known 😊. Everyone does it at some time or other.
Haha, I think because I was so close to sharing a new video, I felt like I had to post something here!!
💙💚💜
there is still hope, there may be a chance to recover the file

Probably not snowing in Spain 😊
Don’t bother to re-record it. Just make a new video and move on. That’s your ‘grace’. It happens. No worries.
Yes, "move on" is key here!
