When Ricky tortures Karl with all the silly set-ups on "An Idiot Abroad" I always think, "Why doesn't Ricky tag along with Karl and do some of the silly things as well?" But after hearing all these podcasts where Ricky is constantly interrupting Karl's glorious stories I'm glad Ricky wasn't around. I love to hear Karl just talk about his opinions and philosophies without Ricky chiming in all the damn time. Karl is much funnier solo. LET THE MAN FINISH A DAMN STORY, RICKY. HE DON'T NEED YOU!!!
Actually it makes perfect sense to me. Lots of the people who'd consider that "gay" (and who tend to bandy the word about a lot) are clearly less mature & less comfortable with their sexuality than you and Ricky are :)

you forget its radio. Altho its easy to forget because they werent being satirical or witty when they said their show was trash but if someones telling a relatively old or forgotten story again for new listeners ricky wouldnt just go "ah no you told me in real life before no point in saying it in radio"....

I would say that it's still a healthy expression of male bonding, but in our society we have trouble interpreting the grey area around male physicality, friendship, and eroticism. Just look at a Men's Health magazine or that naked advertisement T.O. did for his reality show-- sports and masculine culture are very gay.
The more I listen to the XFM shows, the more I realise that the podcasts are totally contrived. I love the three of these guys and everything they do but it's a shame they recycle their material so much.
