I'm not sure if you're always this calm while racing, but I consider this the Bob Ross of sim racing. Incredibly enjoyable video!
I'll take that 😁
Ok, we’re just going to put a happy little 1x over here.
@@andrewgarner3428 :D :D
That is the reason I love Dave’s videos he’s always so soothing and enjoyable
Bob Ross of Sim Racing. My gawd that is accurate. And now I can't unsee it
This is fantastic. You drive more confidently with the increased visibility, and it gives a greater sense of speed which is great entertainment.
I love the skippys, the racing is fun, getting stuck in the pack is fraught with danger though.
great race Dave you got a standing ovation on that one "never give up" was thiem on that race.
WHAT A MOVE UP THE MIDDLE! That was an awesome race, i need to get back in a skippy
Thanks Dave. Your videos have inspired me to dive deeper in iRacing. I bought this monitor due to your experience and overall recommendations and am loving it. I was going to go back to triples and am thankful I found your channel!! Not only have you inspired me in racing in general but more specifically my abilities on the road courses. I've predominately raced Oval for the last 20 years or so and would love to run some laps with ya on there where I could hold my own. I have lots of work to do before I'll be catching the likes of you on the road courses but know I'm coming!! :D Fanatec gear enroute to replace my g920. CSW 2.5, 1.5 shifter, and if fanatec ever reads my email, they sent me v3 pedals instead of the ordered v3 inverted :( ahhhh lol
Keep up the content, love your videos!!
What is your FOV
I'm only 25 seconds into the video, but highly appreciate you covering this subject. I'm considering an ultrawide and wonder what the experience is like vs triples. Appreciate your content Dave!
Gosh, great race Dave, brilliant defending, and of course the Hollywood twist at the end!
absolutely love my 49 inch super ultra wide, no bezels to annoy you and coupled with a vr set you never have a need for tripples
What is your FOV
Absolutely stellar racing, going 3-wide down the straight during the last lap was incredible to watch!
Having watched an Okayama race on another RUclips channel, the appeal of the track passed me by. But now, having seen all the undulations, crests, dips and sweeping turns on an ultra-wide, the appeal becomes apparent to me. I don't know how close sim racing can come to the real thing but seeing what iRacing can provide, it definitely stands as an alternative.
Request to Dave; more ultra wide content, please. It really brings the action alive, the ability to see mirrors and opponents trying overtakes increases the emersion.
I love how your wheel and the wheel in the car are synchronized... very cool! I like this setup it reminds me of an arcade type setup you'd see at the funnery/arcade type places.
Happened to stumble upon this video just now after watching some of your newer stuff. Never change Dave
Nice one Dave! Great race, great rig, great monitor.. what else can I say really apart from I thought it was all great 😃 keep it up bud 👍🏼👍🏼
Great camera view!!! Great driving, as always mate!!!
i like this point of view alot. i wouldnt mind it at all if you would make a video in that format every now and then. 👍
Wowee, great last lap. The guys around you were clean, was good to see 👍
Wow, I don't know Matthijs, but he raced hard and clean. Hats off to him
Great and interesting content as always Dave!
I picked this monitor up last year when it was £999 on Amazon. Bit above my budget but one of the best hardware purchases I have ever made. No regrets coming from a single 27".
How far away from your face do you have it? Does the low height bother you at all? I want to purchase one next month after my DOF h3 sim get here. Cheers!
@@drumbri about 60cm away and the height is perfect for sim racing field of view.
@@blackmac1970 awesome thank you for your help.
Is it possibile to get the same fov of triple?
@@biturbo no because a single 49 just isn’t as wide as 3 smaller monitors and that along with how close you sit determines your field of view. For me, the FOV is wide enough and I don’t have the trouble and expense of mounting aligning and cabling 3 monitors.
Came for the monitor stayed for the racing GREAT race Dave !! I did find it funny the amount of crashing on a sim that’s known for clean racing lol
ik this is late but i wouldn't say iracing is known for clean racing lol i would say it's known for more competitive respectful racing tho lol
2nd that
Great racing, kept me glued to the screen until the end.
Crazy how ya can jump into a skippy and casually run top split competitive times. Takes me towards to the end of an hours session to get within a few 10ths and all i run is skippy ha.
Solid racing as always. Always enjoy watching a skippy!
Just luck Andrew. 😁
Clicked to check out the monitor for flight sim, stayed tuned to watch the race. Wow! Good stuff.
Thanks for your review. I have a Samsung 49 inch ultrawide 1440 and I was having concerns about FOV. I was considering triple 27 monitors. I really love the ultrawide and triple monitors take up too much space.
Love my ultra wide. Wouldn’t swap it.
Quality videos Dave well done. 👍
Thanx for the ultra wide info. I am thinking about it and will now go for it. Unfortunatly the grphics card are short on supply, so need to wait untill i can get my hands on one for a reasonable price.
Thanks Dave i really enjoy watching your vids.
Came for a monitor review, got a decent race as well. Awesome. Subscribed!
Hey thanks bud 😁
Keep up the good work love the vids and love the setup
Think I'm gonna get a 49" ultrawide. Thanks for the video dave.
Subbed, you put out really good content and I like your race craft, you should have more than 25k subs for sure
Thanks for that. Really appreciate it 😁
@13:31 Oooooomph.
Nice driving and set-up.
But what i really like about you is the calmness.
( but for sure you were shitting your pants at that moment :-) )
Thnx again!
I do like how whenever Dave was behind that guy he tried to overtake. Then whenever Dave was ahead he asked why this guy doesn’t work with him to catch the other guys 😂
I’d no doubt be doing the same but it shows how wrapped up in our own race we all get
Very true 😂
What a race. Good racing!
What a nice rig, wish they could ship to Australia! Definitely going the single 49" after seeing this. Thanks!
Great race. Miguel Fuster ran a great race. But three wide into the hairpin on the last lap made this race worthwhile.
In my opinion, Sim racing in VR is the way to go. Yes, the screen resolution isn't as good, but damn I'm just a casual Sim racing player and I only use an Xbox controller on my PC, but seriously the very first time I did a race in VR I was several seconds per lap faster, still using an Xbox controller, than my best ever laps on a monitor! It's just SO much better when you can accurately and easy judge distance in VR and look around.
Those Skip Barber cars look like so much fun.
Looks brilliant dave. An idea would maybe be to change in and out of this webcam view in future races, whilst the normal cockpit view being the main!
The ultrawide looks great. You have a rig to be proud of for sure. Cheers!
That was a hell of a race with Matthijs. Nice recovery and take-back on the last lap. And he did a good job using his head and backing down when there was nothing there. Great racing Dave.
Yeah he raced smart at the end. Good racing 😁
That last lap 3-way fight was awesome
I've yet to try the Skip Barber on AC. That's gotta be on my list to try this year.
I had this monitor on my rig for about 5 months, and intended on using it as the center with 27's on the sides. That didn't work correctly and now I have had the triple 27's for a couple of weeks. Much prefer the triples, but hopefully will be able to use the 49 as my center correctly at some point in the future. For now, it's a nice 4th monitor. Hope to see more of you in ACC Dave! Love your streams!
Man 2 27s would be crazy on the side 😁
@@davecamm if only games could render it properly... Some day soon hopefully!
Doug Cooper why do you prefer triples? I am in buying decisions and there are mixed user reciews all around yt...
"Let's get rid of this pretender" Absolute madlad
Omg, you really have very clear and crisp view in your mirrors. Looks like it's real lol
The same with gt3 cars would be very nice! Thanks for the vid mate!
Not really an iracing fan but it’s just a joy to watch you drive. Wish I had the same level of finesse!
Thanks Jonathan 😁
Did you have any issues with the image warping at the far corners? I’ve seen video where the mirror looks larger than it should. Any suggestions on how to adjust that on a curved monitor, or did you not run into that issue?
Bought one of the Samsung Ultrawides in January. No complaints at all.
Smokey Stoner do you only use the ultrawide for racing? I’m looking at building a rig but don’t know if the triples or the ultrawide is the way to go
Looks great in ultra wide. I'd love to race with a display like that. 😀
Isn't it "a rake of Skip Barbers" Dave? Smooth moves 👍🏻
I have had a single 60”, triples and a rift but my 49” UW kills them all. Love it.
I think you'd change your tune if you tried the Pimax. The rift, vive, all look like racing through dirty binoculars. The Pimax however, now that's a real FOV and resolution that I would put up against a 49 UW anyday.
I'd love to try one 😁
This is so dope, I hope one day to have a similar computer
Awesome Dave
Great vid Dave.
If you wanted to catch the group ahead you could have sat behind Matthijs, takes two to tango ;)
I'm really excited to see this build play so smooth. I just built a ryzen 5 2600x 16gb ddr4 3200 256gb nvme with an evga 2060 xc.
i race with the 49" samsung aswell. i wonder about your FOV, mine is quite a bit closer (about the same seat/eyes distance) . Anyways, glad to hear your thoughts about the ultrawide vs triple screen setup, never got a triple screen setup. Keep it up dave, greets from germany
I really want one of these but I've just taken a screen grab from this vid and compared it to one from my bog standard 27" monitor and the FOV is almost identical. You can see about an inch or so past each wing mirror but that's about it. I was expecting way more FOV from a screen almost twice as wide as my current one.
Love this! Just got myself a 43” super ultra wide. Wondered what fov and horizon settings you’re using?
Great racing.
OMG these Skippies look so much fun to drive, and reasonably forgiving, or is it just your are so good at driving them ????
Nice video, a nice bit of kit and suits your setup/lifestyle - would be nice to see how much of a GT3 car you get on that screen. For me, I'll trade graphical fidelity for immersion with VR, the only thing they really need to sort is hand tracking so I can actually use in-game switches in the cockpit and not fumble around on a keyboard or use voice commands. One day.
Oh man the three wide on last lap was the best.
Nice video, monitor and driving. Just a quick question, why only using the clutch for up-shifting?
Nice rig. what a race. 3 wide for 7th. Need to do more races with that camera view.
wow that was a very entertaining battle
Bought this monitor 3 weeks ago and returned its after 1 week of testing. While it is a super cool monitor by itself, it was not what I was looking/hoping for. I was using triple 24' before, and the 49' gave my roughly the same FOV, even a little bit less. Obviously without the borders, which is cool! Returned it and bought triple 32' for only 100€ more. It is SO much more immersive! For comparison:
49 = ~ 95° FOV
3x32' = 180° FOV
So my advice is, if you want the best SINGLE screen for sim racing, buy this monitor. But if you want maximal immersion and be surrounded, go triple!
PS, I'm using the ASUS bezel free kit on the 32', which works great, even on curved monitors! Used tape instead of the bulky ASUS holders!
how tf u just return d monitor lol
@@filipesantos9373 under some consumer laws you are allowed to return an item after 30 days (i know thats the case with australian consumer law)
triple 24" will give you around 160 degrees FOV
@@lukeannett but only if you are super close to the screen! I like the screens behind the wheel base, less eye strain for me.
When are they going to make true borderless screens like they do on phones. I have triple 32” and I used the monitor joints as breaking markers.
Nice video Dave, but I'm going to stick with my tripple screen setup :)
I enjoyed being able to see your mirrors and more of the side by side action in this video. Could you do the same for something like an IMSA race ?
👍
Yes I'll do another in a tin top 😁
I love my utrawide, had triples before, but dont feel any disadvantage honestly.
Having a full screen without any gaps is much ore easy on the eyes.
(my personal opinion :))
Sadly you have no idea about racing :D
@@C42ST3N my dear hardware supplier, I love you, too :D
@@C42ST3N "Know" idea about spelling, yourself? 😂
@@SuperRiki81 oh my, i have no idea what happened there 😅
@@C42ST3N Hey, I guess know we’ll never now, since you don’t no. (🤣)
Dave hi, excellent video. How far from the monitor are you sitting and at what fov?
Thanks for the over the shoulder cam, I hope you can use it every now and then. It's nice to see what you see. Also, it looks like you might have your frame rate locked at 60. Is that on purpose?
Yes I have it locked when recording. If I don't it looks a bit weird and choppy to me. 👍
@@davecamm I have similar computer spec to you and was afraid to go to 1440p for fear of frame rate at the start or races. That particular race you still had 60fps at the start. Are you ever seeing a situation where it drops below 60 for the start of a race?
Thx dave!
Hi Dave, what iRacing settings did you use for the 49" Monitor? Thanks!
How come you’ve had to send this back? Is it due to the recall problems? Did yours flicker and have the same issues as others have had? Love your videos so refreshing to see someone with an original presenting style.
Hello Dave 🙂 I would like to know if you have better performances (fps) with the ultra, compare to the triple? Thank you.
love d way u talk
Is this monitor the Acer Nitro EI491CR S ? Thanks :) Great vid
Interesting vid! I've got the sammie 49" 1440p as well. Never tried triples, and wasn't sure whether it was worth buying them at some stage. I'll be keeping an eye out to see if you end up switching back or not. I have mine just 3-4" inches behind the wheel rim, helps with FOV a lot.
How are you finding the resolution? I have an LG 34', 2560 x 1080 and I can kinda see the pixels already. Was looking into the 49'' 4K
@@dhruvb38 I have the1440 samsung 49 and being a pixel snob I binned 1080 a few years back, 1440 is almost perfect, I have a 23 inch 1080 monitor over top as an aux which is IPS and the image is not very good in pixel terms, I also have 1440 27 inch monitors on my desktop.
@@dhruvb38 The 49" I have is 1440p, not 4k. I can't see the pixels to any noticeable extent, even with the screen only ~22" away. I tried reducing the res to 1080 to try and increase fps (I only have a 5700XT) and the pixels were then quite noticeable. I don't see any need for more than 1440p though so quite happy with the resolution.
What a battle! Enjoyed that. Thinking about trying VR next Dave ?
I've had a few vr sets but prefer a screen for now. Doesn't really work for creating content
Dave, did you consider adding 2 standard monitors in order to make this a triple setup? It seems like it would be a relatively simple upgrade.
OMG Right as he split the two cars COMMERCIAL ! FOCK !
Nice racing Dave, a school in defence! You should do more skippy races in this video format, Works great for close battling races.
(ps activate your Windows! Ocd is driving me mad! Lol)
I know I know, I'll get round to it 😁
new to the channel and watched a few videos. silly question, why do you not hit the clutch when downshifting?
Have you tried VR with iRacing Dave?
I've got a 34" Ultrawide as I dont have the room for triples, but now I've got a Rift S, I dont like to race with the monitor, the VR is that good! Be interested to know your thoughts if you've tried it.
Hi Dave! what would you recommend, this Ultra Wide, VR or triple screens? I'm in 2 minds atm on what to get 😬
Ordered myself a 29" ultrawide for an upgrade to my racing as used a friends 25" ultrawide and honestly it's the best compromise over triple screens
You mean ultrawide better than triple monitor ?
Hey @Dave Cam, looks like you've gone back to triples lately(circa 2021). I haven't seen a video covering that decision so i was just curious what swayed you. Always found your experience to be very helpful and i'm trying to decide between triples and a 49UW to replace my 43 single. Cheers!
Nevermind! just found the video!
Gr8 vid I like the widescreen view better than the other view ur using as we can see u catching the opposition more clearly than before but with the other view ur using I tend to watch all screens on ur vids and it can offputting as i try to consecrate on one screen tho............ plz can u keep the widescreen view in ur vids thx..........
Hi Dave, how do you find your frame rates on the larger monitor? What GPU are you using with it? Thanks
Nice battle. I was in the blue car that got boxed in at the hairpin when the guy parked it in front of me. How I am supposed to "avoid" that I don't know Dave, but thanks for the coaching ;)
Haha, yeah you were goosed. It's more luck than anything half the time 😁
Paul, your not alone. We all get caught behind drivers that lose it and you have no where to go. I find it safe sometimes to stay a little backwards in certain areas just to avoid issues like these
. But the question is then when is the time to attack.
I do have a question I am about to either purchase an ultra-wide or do the triples and you said the only time you missed your triple screens was in oval racing that's primarily what I'm going to be doing would you still suggest the ultrawide. Also how about a IR head tracker to make up for that tiny bit of blind spot?
Dave - what’s the software you use for the overlays? I think you talked about it in a video around the holidays...
Race Lab Apps
How did you reduce the “stretch” in the display?
Just set up new G9 and distortion using full screen is significant.
Have reduced it but still not as good as smaller G7 which has no distortion at all.
Perplexed, thanks
Great video Dave! , I think it's been mentioned but could you do another video, same perspective but a closed cockpit car GT3 or the Cayman GT4 ?
Yes I'll do another 😁
@@davecamm Top man!!!
Hi Dave I'm using a vr that's giving me headaches, would you recommend this 49" for mainly Open wheel cars or do I need triples I'm a bit tight on space. Anythings got to be better then a single 27"4k
Hey Dave, does it need a better gfx card to run this on high detail since its ultrawide ? I wanted to go for tripples but then i need to buy a better pc. Atm i got 1070 gtx. So therefor i was thinking of this monitor the 120hz one
Looks really good. But would you prefer a triple screen solution? I believe, that you got a better overview of the left and right with a triple Screen....
How is the view in a bigger car like a GT3? The Skip Barber is a small one and you are sitting in the center of the car. How is the view with a ultrawide screen, when sitting on the left/ right side?
Marc Oliver Pohl I am not Dave, however it is all subjective to one’s preferred FOV. Dave appears to like a lower FOV, where as higher would give you more view on each side.
@@HomeSlice_2424 I am doing a FOV of 0,50 on a 32Inch Screen.... I thought, this should be the right setting.... Try to raise the FOV later
Dave, great video first of all. Question for you, do you run a separate PC to stream? I'd love to clone this setup for my streaming. How do you have the racelab overlays over the webcam and have that all separate from what you're playing on the screen?
Nope, all from one PC. That probably doesn't help 😂
I have triple screens and they are a pain in the butt. Besides the physical part of aligning, getting the angle set and managing the gaps between them you also have to deal with the software end of it all. Not all games recognize triple screens, setting up the screens for each individual game sucks and then dealing with the odd “starting a game only to find everything is screwed up again” is a constant threat hanging over you.
Also having to manage Windows with nVidia’s “Surround” is an issue - all sorts of strange behavior issues that gets tiring after a while.
I am eyeballing a giant, curved Samsung 55” gaming LCD - and hopefully put this triple screen experiment in the past.
