    Always liked the Ibanez's clarity for an analog pedal. The long maximum delay time is great too. If you want a super dark delay to sit way back from the guitar, the other two are better picks. But for me, I like using a delay with some clarity so I can play off of it. Ibanez all day.

    Thanks for showing me my old Ibanez analogue delay is available again. Back in the day it was so much a part of my sound I used to complain about that, "The Edge" fellow nicking my sound. I love its "dirty" textured sound and response to the nuance of pick or picking pressure. I'm off to to Thomann for mine right now. Whatever happened to the original? No idea. Those were the days. 8-)

    • @mrbrianparker
      @mrbrianparker 6 лет назад +1

      Quick follow up now I have have the pedal and have had a chance to use it - It does indeed re-create my old sound, there is nothing like its textured aura around a note. I do however miss the bigger knobs on the repeat and blend and since there's no marker for the centre setting on these small dials I will be painting a fluorescent line on both even though I tend to keep the same setting for a gig I like to know where it is for a quick set up or in case the pedal gets kicked.

      This is silly. It’s a valid question. The flashback is being discussed in the reply as if it doesn’t have a mode that emulates an analog delay. Flashback will “probably be a lot cleaner and brighter.” In 2290 digital mode, Ok. Not helpful, but whatever.

  • @toom6087
    @toom6087 5 лет назад +1

    That's what I call a true comparison. It would have been better with many amps, and many guitars, but it's ok. Congrats!I own one Carbon Copy for years. It's still sleeping in a bag. I tried the Boss DM-2w when it was released. It matchs so well with the Dual Rectifier Rev G (parallel fx loop) made in the 90's. As I play many of theses amps… I bought 5 DM-2w !!! I play this magic box in it's custom mode in wet/dry/wet system. This delay is the top of the top if you wanna shred with an ESP (mahogany+mapple+SeymourDuncan) in a Mesa Boogie. It's huuuuuge. It respects the high gain and, no, I disagree, the Boss has the darkest repeat, darker than the Carbon Copy. If you want something darker than darker then you have to play the almighty Way Huge Echo Puss. It's the best friend of the Rectifier about rhythm guitar, but it kills the sound in a Soldano SLO100. For this amp, you need the Mojohand FX Recoil, a kind of Boss DM-2, but for the Soldano loop. So the 1st question before buying a delay is : witch amp do you play, and what about the loop? Series or parallel? If you amp has a series loop, think about the Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail, or the top end delay over the world, in clean, crunch or high gain, the master jeidi of the bucket brigade delays : the JHS PantherCub. If you play an Engl Savage, a Bogner Ecstasy or a Mesa Dual Rectifier made between 1993 and 2010 (the Solo Head 2 channels Rev G and 3 channels, not the Multi-watts) then you must have the Boss DM-2w !!!About the Ibanez delay? LOL LOL LOL...

      What do you recommend to me? I have a Friedman BE100 Deluxe as my main amp. I am mainly a hard rock player. I Always used my Maxon AD 900 but it takes too much place on my board, so I'm looking for a replacement that is as good as the AD 900...

    • @stefaanvanderpulst2547
      @stefaanvanderpulst2547 4 года назад

      I also want to say that I don't like the sounds he gets in this video when he adds gain probably because he doesn't place the delays in an effects loop. It sounds too distorted.

    • @toom6087
      @toom6087 4 года назад +1

      @@stefaanvanderpulst2547 I own the BE100, the 1st version, 2 channels. What I can tell:
      As it's a 68' super Marshall like sound with one of the best serial loop on the market, the Carbon copy can works here. Not the Boss DM2 if you don't have a line mixer.
      If you need a space ambiance : the Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail with the Strymon Flint in the 80's mode. Line mixer needed here. Try to play "Sorrow", from Pink Floyd, it's made for.
      About line mixers, I use the Skrydstrup PL-1 (custom order made in Denmark) in the loop of my Soldano SLO (the original one, not the new one) : skrydstrup.com/audio-tools/loop-boxes/ The PL-1, or the PL-2 for 2 FX, is the top end line mixer.
      I tried something like 10 other line mixers. Lehle? Only for clean, not possible with high gain. Xotic? It changes the sound. Especially in the Friedman loop : don't use Xotic here, its a counter-performance. The Xotix works with the Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Multiwatts only. And not with the old Rectifiers from the 90's. RJM line mixer and The GigRig wetter box ? Not bad, but the Skrydstrup is better.
      Now, if you wanna play the serial loop with no line mixer, I would say : JHS PantherCub. To my humble opinion, and I own only something like 100 delays, not all the delays, the Panther Cub v2.0 is the best delay ever made in small format. It's inspired by the Boss DM2. I own the v 1.5 witch is better for me because there is an insert that I use for phase 90. But it's bigger and no more in production.
      Now if you need something fat, the Way Huge EchoPuss is... huge :) to make your sound bigger with a short echo. Awesome for power chords. If you play stoner metal, this is the holy grail.
      So depends the way you play, the kind of sound you want... difficult to say. As you said hard rock, I think you need a line mixer to keep a part of the sound dry. The Boss DM2 is made for the Van Halen tone. Even if Eddie used to put the delay front to the amp. So the option of a line mixer is great here. That's the reason why I think the Bogner Ecstasy is a better amp than the Friedman BE100. The loop of the Bogner can be switch from serial to parallel. You don't need an extra line mixer with an Ecstasy, it's already builted in. I own an Ecstasy 101A 30th anniversary loaded with 6L6s: this is the best loop ever.
      All the delays I mentioned here are ok for shred. But it's not about who is the best. When you go for analog, you need a short and a long delay. A delay for the clean, one for the distortion. All the delays I mentioned here are OK with high gain and clean. For short delay, the Way Huge Echo Puss is the best, but it's really made for high gain than for clean. For long delay : the Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail or the JHS PantherCub. If you need a delay on the clean tone, the JHS PantherCub is top. With distortion, it sounds something like the Boss DM2. The Carbon Copy doesn't sound sexy, it's a shy delay... maybe you will like it. For me it's not good enough.
      At the end, as always, it will depends of your tastes. And the guitar you play. I use mahogany guitars with Seymour Duncan humbuckers, a few Gibson LesPaul but mostly 2 ESP Horizon and 1 Mirage, custom shop of course. My fav pickups are, 1st, the Seymour TB14, and the TB12 witch is a kind of Pearly Gates. So, if you are a Fender Strat guy, what I told you is maybe... wrong.
      My conclusion : your problem comes with the serial loop of the amp. I think the Boss Dm-2W is the best for you, but it needs a parallel fx loop. If you don't play with a line mixer, you need a delay with a mix knob. And the JHS do both : mix abilities and high end sound. There are others very good, but they are bigger. If you don't fear to buy a bigger delay, there is a very good one for serial loop amps : the Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man 1100TT. And what is cool with this one? You can use a volume pedal (Ernie Ball for example) as an expression pedal for the mix knob of the delay. This is very praticle for live. You can engage the fx and mix it with the foot on the fly.

      @@toom6087 Thanks for the detailed answer. I bought the Carbon Copy today , second hand in my neighbourhood for 90 Euro. Couldn't resist that deal! I'll see how that works..One thing I want to mention about the Friedman BE 100 Deluxe : the effectsloop is ultra transparant, I hear no difference if there is something (for instance my Maxon AD 900) in the loop or not. And I've got some buffers/boosters laying around (Tone Freak Buff Puff,Morley..) that could help ...

    • @toom6087
      @toom6087 4 года назад

      @@stefaanvanderpulst2547 The CC is OK in a Friedman loop, no mistake here. This is the basic. I just tell that it becomes magic with the JHS, when it stays tiny shiny with the MXR. So I would say, each time you will be able to try other delays, try them !

      Is it possible because it's last in the chain? Better scenario would be 3 separate/side-chained loops?...input and output impedance, and buffer interaction removed, or lessened.... either way I like these vids, and appreciate how he lets notes naturally decay. Surprisingly, many demos do not. I think it shows a greater degree of musicality/sensitivity, already heard in the clips. I bet I'd have fun jamming with this Cat.
