The language used by councils is Golgafrinshan, B-Ark dialect. If councils want to charge for motorcycle parking (which has already been paid for in Council Tax) they should provide better and proper secure and sheltered facilities. Street bays are often placed in places unusable by cars, but vulnerable to being knocked over like dominoes by heavier vehicles. In the town where I live there has been a motorcycle bay with paving stones (flat and solid for centre standing) and bars for chains for over 40 years and it has had zero maintenance and running costs.
Just returned after a UK tour. Motorcycle parking is bad. Finding it on the internet or in person is difficult (cars and pushbikes are shown on local authority web pages in a search). Things to secure expensive motorcycles to and even knowing if the parking is free or not wherever you choose to go. Seeing a bit of text saying it's free unless you're in a car bay but you can park anywhere else as long as it's not causing an obstruction (who decides that?). Charging us for a lack of interest in us
Due to the low emissions and the positive easing of congestion, they should be doing everything possible for motorcycles. It's at total odds with their climate goal, and that's how you know it's all about cash-strapped councils, money and the age of binary thinking
There's nothing to stop you raising your own petition on the 38 degrees site. It's better for a local person to raise it but MAG will help you with the wording.
I'll hold my hand up and admit I am usually one of the lackadaisical people that just avoid those places and never bother much with this sort of thing. But, this time I did get involved and signed it for the simple reason that while I'm not invovled with their council, I certainly do not trust mine! Any whiff of income generation or extra charges and my Council will be all over that - especially since it shifted to Labour. This is definately one of those times where letting them come for someone else is the start of a very slippery slope...
Hi l’ve signed the petition but also completed the survey as I live in Hounslow Borough. It looks as though someone might have listened to you, as in the survey motorcycle is listed as an option in all questions. Hopefully that’s a positive sign.
This council policy is just about generating cash. Several other London boroughs, Bath, maybe Oxford as well, charge for M/C parking. On the continent there is generally free M/C parking, excluding Paris these days. In several,places I’ve used lockable cabinets for helmet and gear with a secure post to lock the bike to with a chain in designated M/C bays. Bastogne War Museum being a case in point.

If they charge you as a car like they intend to in Bath we should in future park longways in the parking bays making sure we take up as much space as possible to get our moneys worth. I thought it has been proven that motorcycles easy congestion and pollution, they should be encouraging motorcyling not making it more difficult. Let’s be honest its political dogma and nothing else, they just put out these new motoring rules without any proper consultation or research. What about Deliveroo and other motorcycle/scooter delivery companies? Need to find out where these councillors live and make sure they never get anything delivered by motorcycle
