Motorcycle Action Group (MAG)
Великобритания
Добавлен 8 фев 2018
MAG was founded in 1973, and is the leading voice of riders in local and national and international government being a founder member of Federation of European Motorcyclists Associations. Passionately defending all that is good about biking by mobilising riders and volunteers through a local and regional branch structure this has led to campaigns from access to bus lanes and getting rid of the 100bhp cap on all motorcycles.
MAG represents riders of all abilities and experience levels through our support of parties and rallies, sport and competition, touring and travel. We work directly with politicians and civil servants, but still employ other forms of direct action if necessary to ensure the rider’s voice is heard.

Decarbonisation of motorcycles: The legislation and why there is no time for complacency!
It's 30 years since I last rode a motorcycle (Z200), but £57 sounds a lot. My 2015 diesel car will see it's VED go up from £0 to £20. But the fuel consumption is about the same as I used to get out of my GT185, even though it has 5 x more horsepower.
Answer Government = Wankers . Question answered.
Why can’t you get your point across without all that trying to be clever double talk? If you had been clear and concise I would have watched but your presentation was nauseating. 😕
The tax on ice cars registered from 2017 is £100 more than those registered before that. That is probably the reference point for the electric bike changes. As it is i pay more tax for my honda nsc 50 than i do for my hyundai i10 1.25 litre car.Crazy!.
Faceless bureaucrats who hate us are our British equivalent of American health insurer CEOs. The solution is similar.
Your argument is totally logical, and the reason I pay a paltry sum to be a MAG member. If we don't argue for our rights, no one else will. United we stand... Join MAG if you want to keep your right to ride, free and fair.
Just happened upon your channel. I didn't realize Motorcycle Action Group was still operating. I recall taking part in one of your M.A.G runs in the early 80's A couple of bands and a party followed in Cornwall. It was brilliant and remains in the forefront of my memory. I've taken up two wheel riding again in the last two years. Had to renew my V.E.D Today, and I believe the cost had increased. Like everything else within this age we share, we receive little in return for the multitude of stealth taxation. Precious little on road quality or anything else. Thanks for sharing
Just had a tax reminder for my bike and car, euro4 Citroen C1, £20. Euro 5 Honda SH125, £25. ???
Its because the police cant catch them. To busy policing hurty words and non crime incidents.
MAG member, and glad of it. My 60 m.p.g. car is 1/6th of my 77 m.p.g. bike (Kawasaki W800) VED. Crazy world. At least classics are Zero rated but for how long is anyone's guess.
My Sons 2013 1.5 diesel euro 5 Dacia Sandero Car is zero Ved, none of this makes any sense at all. I have a 2019 1.5 Addblue diesel Citroen which is £165.00 ved the cars are the same weight and the Citroen has lower emissions output by 10 grams per kilometer, go figure.
who are you?
1968 theft act. It is an offence to steal anything including motorbikes. If the offenders are caught, they get prosecuted. Yes the law is an ass at the best of times. But putting out shit like this will just make potential thieves think they can get away with it! Dah!!
VED is unfair Full Stop ! Especially as it is not spent on the Roads.
Did you ever think they despise motorcyclists because riding one implies a love of freedom from the user ?
The only fair change I see is to abolish VED. Fuel taxation is self regulating, as the more you need the more tax you pay. Why is a diesel fiesta less to tax than a 125cc motorcycle? There's no logic.
VED should be by weight classification
My new CanAm Spyder trike is classed as a Private Light Goods vehicle at £335 per year. Ouch!
That's it? A weight based VED scheme? How convenient that motorcycles don't have to confront the intransigence of our bike's emissions. We're still on EURO5 that cars were on ten years ago and we won't move to 6 until the end of the decade (if they attempt harmonisation with passenger car Euro7 then it will make getting Hayabusas through EURO5 look like a picnic).
I have a little Skyteam Monkey 125 that I use occasionally with my motorhome. I shouldn't do, but I really begrudge paying £ 20 when my wifes diesel car is £ 30.
I bought an old bike so dont have to pay ved mot or ulez .
Thank you for a great video and BTW we already pay per mile through 50% of fuel costs being duty and VAT.
I wonder if the Hells Angels have a problem with motorcycle theft ? I very much doubt it as everyone knows what happens if you cross them. I went to the South West Custom And Classic show many years ago and there was a classy chopper with a sticker on it that read 'THIS MOTORCYCLE IS PROTECTED BY EXTREME VIOLENCE'. Bikers should be like John Wayne's cowboy character, a great friend but a deadly enemy, this nice guy family friendly stuff that has permeated our culture has led to this, if the police aren't going to do anything about it then maybe it's time to put the fear back.
It's probably more to do with the amount of sales, more cars, and fewer bikes. So VED those few bikes more than the majority of cars. Maybe also the reason as to why the higher VED on 2017+ EVs, as that seems to be when more of them started selling. More of those on the road, more tax to be raised.
It's quite easy to guess why VED is disproportionately high for motorcycles. Which form of transport has proportionally more accidents. Therefore which section of the motoring public costs the NHS more money? The Government wants zero road casualties. Which section are they taxing out of existence first?
As far as I can see, and judging by results, MAG is totally ineffective at promoting the interests of bikers.
Sorry can't reply on a postcard can't afford the stamp's.
I have three bikes, a vmax 1200, a 1400 intruder and a 125 Herald, I tax the vmax and intruder only for six months and the Herald for twelve. VED is now just another revenue raising method, none of it goes to road maintenance, government throwing money at ukraine and israel instead of looking after their own. Whoever voted for this f*cking shower can take the blame.
Who cares? Haven't taxed my Yamaha for twenty years.
As it stands at Xmas 2024, I have a ford focus ecoboost 1.0 at £35 a year,I also have a 1997 Suzuki 1200 bandit, that I had to pay£175 to TFL to get it ULEZ compliant & emits less co2 than the focus & I have to pay £117 a year.
This post is like a little bubble for bikers. The industry/groups are taking motorbikes towards extinction by encouraging the endless exceptionalism and lack of self awareness. VED for bikes can be summed up very simply: a) the government really want to do road pricing but aren't ready for that fight b) bikers were once the trendy, anti-social bad boys of the street and now the elderly, stuck-in-the past complainers (ABS, licencing, security, emissions, bus lanes...waaahh) who are easily ignored c) bike emissions suck and won't be aligned even with cars until the end of the decade d) Sometimes motorcycling feels like Bruce Willis in the Sixth Sense... they just don't know it yet.
Why are electric vehicles paying less than ice? Electrics are usually heavier and to more damage. Ved is an eco tax!
But if VED was based on vehicle weight, EVs would come out badly which, again, isn't logical....unless I've missed something in your argument
Who wants to ride a ticking time bomb in the form of these electric motorbikes? If you've ever seen these things catch & the trouble it takes to put them out you'll agree it's not safe - I'll never feel comfortable about these things
Ved is an infection you get after being shafted by the government.😮
I’m one of those used to be bikers and I’m hole heartedly With you
The real issue is taxes in general. Whatever we want to buy, with our money, that was already taxed. We pay another tax, even though the person selling it to us paid tax too. After you die, your child will pay tax for inheriting things that were already taxed on multiple levels. If they are allowed to rob the whole population, do you think they will give a break to motorcyclists?
Will this apply to electric bikes most of which seem to use pedals to assist the motor rather than the other way round
This is easy to explain,as a motorcyclist you are classed as a potential subversive, a potential rebel of some sort. Plus the plethora of facial recognition cameras to follow and track our travels don’t work very well with full face helmets or bandannas over the face. Big brother wats to know everything.
Don't get pulled into politics of envy! It just makes us fight amongst ourselves. Taxation is THEFT, pure and simple. If any of you doubt this, go and live in some other countries for a few years, where the roads are great and VED does not exist. It shines a light on this corrupt government and their 'rip-off Britain' resulting policies.
There is no electric future
Tax related to vehicle weight is the fairest and least ambiguous method so lets push for a change.
My diesel 2.0 is £30 a year, my 650cc motorcycle is £110. It's yet another tax on working and lower middle class people, like most other taxes. The govt should be encouraging motorcycling, it's far cleaner than car travel and would eliminate congestion if even a small % of drivers switched.
motorcycles = freedom, commies hate freedom.
Normally I keep my bike taxed all year round, I guess I will star to SORN it for winter moving forwards.
VED should be zero for motorcycles. We are part of the solution. And governments should be encouraging their use!
Never gonna happen. They’re blind to any sensible promotions. We know that much.
Electric cars are bigger and weigh more, not to mention the the devastation caused by their manufacture to the landscape in lithium mining areas.
you are dealing with black hole scammers ....
It never has been or will be fair, life isnt fair
You have a point that there are some anomalies in the way the package has been put together, but providing all the infrastructure that you get to use costs the general tax payer, whether or not they drive, As a motor vehicle user you are, in fact subsidised, Perhaps you could point that out in future messageing ?
