    Since you once lived in Chattanooga, you are already aware of how beautiful and wonderful the mountains of East Tennessee are. I grew up in Lenoir City and spent over half of my life in Texas and other parts of the country, returning to my Southern Appalachian roots about nine years ago. There's nothing like these mountains and the beauty of East Tennessee. Hope to follow your trek and enjoy your experiences along with you as you find your place in the world. Blessings. . . . .
    Keep the Lord as #1 in your life and all of your dreams will become experiences as you reach for them, and as your life finds how He planned for man to live. . . . . .and it certainly was NOT in an urban jungle!! (Proverbs 3:5-6)

    Yes welcome to Tennessee, as a cat owner wanted to warn you we do have coyotes and they will make kitty a snack. If you are going to be gone leave kitty inside and never leave kitty out at night. I went through a loss and do not want you to go through the same. Owls will get kitty too so just keep eye out on kitty. You are going to love living here and so happy for you both. Congratulations to you both on finding your homestead and for a exciting new adventure.

      I am just curious...but since living in East Tennessee, I have been trying to figure out why people here seem to think coyotes don't exist anywhere else. Especially considering, comparatively speaking, they took a bit longer to even arrive in this area than in many other areas of the U.S.

    • @1Kittywicked24
      @1Kittywicked24 15 дней назад

      @@ryantrone4140 our Tennessee coyotes are very different from western coyotes. western coyotes makes at most weight is 70 lbs eastern coyotes makes up to over 100lbs last one caught weighed in at 112 lbs , we also have coywolf which are only found along states that run Appalachian mountains Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina etc. the eastern wolf in Canada and North eastern states Maine etc so No not all coyotes are alike telling someone that they are is irresponsible our eastern coyotes and coywolf will kill a human especially small to small adult these here killed a German Shepard Rottweiler mix it jumped 6ft fence killed the dog before could get his gun and get out of house. I suggest reading up on a subject , do your research before speaking. Word if advice stay in school you need it

Thankfully, most will never come into close contact with them , but it always is best to be prepared and also know the signs of being bit in animals.

    I just found and subscribed to your channel, so will have to go back to the van days... We lived our lives (in Tennessee) the opposite of yours... For everything there is a season, and they are at different times for different people. When we were younger, there were no computers, cell phones, email, internet, RUclips or affordable solar panels. Our options were very limited, so we had jobs, a home, and had a large garden. That got really old, however we traveled on every vacation and some weekends. We camped in about half the US states. Once our kids were gone, we traveled more and worked less. Now retired several years, we have camped in every state and been to several countries. No complaints, life has been good as yours appears to be!

    • @RunawayMattCass
      @RunawayMattCass  Год назад +1

      That's so awesome to hear! We've camped in the majority of states but not yet all of them. Modern tech has definitely been good to us. We both work remotely and that is what allowed us to travel and to continue to make money while living on our new land. Affordable solar panels are HUGE - we built our bus 3.5 years ago and even then the prices were way higher than they are now. We appreciate the support! Cheers!

From what we can tell, we think it will have some flow year around. A shame locals can’t afford land and homes here anymore because the big money coming in and driving it all up. Outsiders running from crappy ran states (Cali, NY, NJ, Oregon to name a few) to here is suffocating. TN will be like the other states before too long…higher taxes and infrastructure that’s struggling already and will get worse with more people flocking here. Good old days are gone…

    • @RunawayMattCass
      @RunawayMattCass  Год назад +35

      It's funny, we've traveled the world and no matter where we go, the locals are complaining about someone moving there. Your complaint of Tennessee is being told throughout other southern and western states. In big cities, the rich people are buying second homes and making it hard for normal people to afford. In Mexico, it's the digital nomads. The story goes on and on - the reality is, the world now allows people to move more easily and people in my generation aren't afraid to move away from home like much of previous generations were. Blame it on "crappy" states or whatever you want. We moved to TN 6 years ago when we were 22 and wanted to start a new life without the winters of where we were from. We didn't have money to afford anything when we came and we made ourselves here. Like or love people moving, it's going to continue as it's never been easier to.

      @@RunawayMattCass Not being rude or anything against you but it's just the reality. And for the people born and raised here, we don't want to see our towns go from where people want to be to where people leave from. Politics plays the role. Been a huge influx of people moving here in last 3 years, that’s not normal. People have always moved around but not like in the last few years. Just hope the outsiders don't bring the democrat views here. It's obvious who's running away and why so I can't blame them. Just hope they remember why they left.

      Welcome to TN! We moved here two years ago, Rv’d 3 years and chose here to settle. We bought an overgrown property and turned it into a homestead.
      Best advice is…if you move here, be like the people around you, don’t try to change how it is. This place is amazing because it’s like taking a step back in time, lots of old fashion traditions etc.
      keep TN great :)

      Well I don't think anyone actually likes ticks or chiggers - living previously in Tennessee for years and upstate New York before that, we are very familiar with them. With that being said, there are "payments to be made" no matter where you choose to work land. If you don't want the ticks, you won't have water. If you don't want the hot summers, you'll have cold winters. All in all, it's picking the place that best suites your plans - and for us, that was Tennessee - ticks and all.

    May I suggest
    Build a permanent foundation by that I mean concrete footings and concrete block crawl space walls.
    If you have the room next to it would be imencly easier. Don't forget to put pressure lumber around the perimeter and sny where non treated wood contacts the masonry. No longer a ready built structure and some storage below 1 drawback might be steps to get in or raise the landscape near the entrance

    you guys just popped up my feed. i'm also interested in doing the off-grid lifestyle, maybe thats why your vid popped up. but anyhow, you've bought the land, so you have surface rights to use the land. my concern and questions to ask are... because of the spring fed creek and the waterfalls, is the spring that feeds it on your land or is it on another parcel? along with that, did you get the water rights included with the land purchase or are they separate? that is something you need to look into if you want to do anything with the creek like damming it to create pools for livestock or doing anything with power generation from a mill. also, along with that is the mineral rights. do you have those or are they with the original owner of the land?

    I'm just going to say it plainly. If you're going to live off the grid, don't put your business on RUclips of all things. It will bring the type of attention you don't want. I have members of family that's lived in the Appalachians on the same land before this country even existed. They keep to themselves, work for themselves, grow and hunt their own food themselves. They only go into towns when it's absolutely necessary. Then they just get what they need and get back to the mountains as quickly as they can. These days, in a corporate controlled government, those who choose the live completely self-sufficient will be treated as outlaws. It's all about $$$, and the government will do anything it can to keep everyone dependent on corporations and them to nickel and dime everyone to death. I'm not trying to be an ass, but stating the truth. If anyone chooses to live life off the grid, be completely off of it. Don't put yourself out on the internet. Those members of my family don't go on the internet. Many of them don't even know what RUclips or Facebook is, and they really don't care either.

      Well being that we haven't made a dime from RUclips until this month (as we just met the monetization threshold), I'd say RUclips has nothing to do with it. We worked our asses off, moved into a van living minimally to a point that most people wouldn't consider and were able to save a lot of money doing so. We also made smart investments by selling our home at the height of the market and selling a bus that we built by hand for a profit (Btw, even with now making money on RUclips, we'll make less than $1k this month even with just having our 3 best performing videos and after 2 years of work to get here. RUclips really doesn't pay unless you're an enormous account).

      Thank you so much for the support and welcome to our rad little channel! Believe it or not, the traveling portion of what we did was extremely affordable - far more affordable than when we owned our house. For example, our budget for our last few months of travel in our van for Mexico came in at under $2k/month (That's including literally every expense of our lives). US travel was right on part with that. With that being said, you can also travel in a van and spend $8k/month - it is all dependent on your choices and how you spend. We choose to live as financially free as possible. We both work part-time remotely to generate income as well as part time on social media making some income from RUclips, Patreon and Instagram. All of these adventures were padded by a savings account that we had built through the sale of our house, the sale of our bus conversion, and saving money from when Matt was still working full time in tech remotely and we were living tremendously under his salary. This was our insurance policy while on the road and is what is helping us buy the land and get this project rolling! Thanks again for the support and we look forward to sharing more of this journey with you!
