- In this video we'll be covering the story of Marvin Branagh, one of the last surviving officer in the RPD station. Which here in this video we'll explain his lore within the resident evil timeline, his early concept design from resident evil 1.5, and his eventual infection from the t virus, turning him into a zombie.
We also compare and contrast his conversations he would have between Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield. We also compare the story changes Marvin had between the original resident evil 2 and re3 to the new resident evil 2 remake.

When I saw Marvin in the re3 remake I felt so sad when I realised what he meant when he said "don't make my mistake"
Yes, It explains his advice to Leon to make sure that he doesn't make the same mistake. Though if put in a situation like that to see a collogue in that state, I'm sure it would make someone hesitate for a quick second.
Even Brad hesitated. Some whined but I liked how he was fighting his last shred of control, yet the transition is canon, Itchy Tasty style.
I liked it as well. People complained about "Oh we did not need to know or see" but I am glad cause makes his line that much more impactful when you remember what he said to character in RE 2

I think Marvin was calmer with Claire because she was a civilian and he didn't want her to panic whereas Leon was a fellow cop so he just told him to get out and run away from or kill any zombies he saw even if he knew them.

Even as Marvin was slowly dying, he used his remaining time while he was still human standing strong, sticking to his principles, keeping a cool head, and helping Leon/Claire escape the hellhole just as he had with the survivors before him. I wish Marvin made it, but his death was honorable and symbolic.
You're right on point and I wish he could have lived, but in the end he did his job perfectly and was a true hero.

You can tell he had the potential to survive. he represents what could happen to Leon and Claire if they make just one mistake
Marvin actually knew about the effects of the “T” virus. That was why he advised either Leon or Claire not to come back for him. Because he knew that he would eventually turn. He truly died a hero
He was a true Hero.
Not necessarily. He was aware that getting bitten by these "zombie-like" creatures caused the infection but he has no knowledge of such a virus existing. Nobody besides higher ups and Ada did in this game.
Marvin was definitely better in the remake. I felt his reanimating deserved a dramatic cutscene though.
Agreed and the small detail touches on how he talks to Leon and Claire was great.
@@HeYDeVuH Totally. Plus showing him being bitten in RE3R really adds weight to those scenes. Actually makes up for Nemesis not killing Brad. For me at least anyway.

Well the thing is that the remakes were able to give more personality to side characters, especially with Marvin and Kendo. With more fleshed out personalities now, compared to the original monotone flat versions, we've naturally formed emotional connections to the remade versions.
@@crissy4346 Well tbh I did prefer the original version of Chief Irons over the original. I think the original did a fantastic job of setting him up as a truly terrifying psychopath considering how little screen time he had. In the remake he just felt like typical villain with small hints of his former self thrown in for the sake of nostalgia. He was just pissed that nothing was going his way as opposed to the delusional madman from the first game. The chase sequence with Sherry was great but would’ve been even better if they had kept everything from the original.
Damn this guy literally stayed behind to save everyone and even when he was mortally wounded and infected the dude didnt stop helping and didnt hesitate to stay back to save leon/claire. I mean he could have just died there but even after saving them he looks around for survivors to evacuate

Yeah it was sad what happened to him and unfortunate that he became a Zombie. Maybe in a future Remake of Outbreak we get to see more of Marvin's story and show how much more of a Hero he was.

@@prithviyr8979 Not sure if QTE is needed, maybe as part of Zombie Grab mechanics. I want to avoid getting too much QTEs in the Resident Evil games, nobody wants a repeat of the Boulder Incident.
Marvin is a great character even though he doesn't appear much in the games.. id be down to seeing his whole story if the Outbreak games are ever remade

The tragic yet wasted part of that Marvin was originally going to be major supporting character with larger role in original version of resident evil 2 even made it out alive never made it in final version
theyre one of my favs I love how they delve into the backstories of the everyday people you see in the background of other games, really adds a layer of depth to the whole series. A remake would be awesome

Especially if a zombie talks. That could cause a lot of people to delay for a sec. And I'm sure he was a lot more stern with Leon because he is a fellow policeman.. Claire is just a well trained civilian.

The edit where marvin tells claire about her brothers whereabouts, to immedietely showing him get his face splashed with liquor at 14:07 made my day 10x better

7:23 The fact that his moans when he talks to either Leon or Claire is both pain from his zombie bites and other injuries and him trying to resist the T-Virus's effects before he finally turns is sad.
I truly wished they gave Marvin a bigger playable role and expanded his story. THE MAN IS A DAMN HERO!

that cutscene you used as the intro is one i will always refuse to skip because the emotion in his face just always brings me to tears. Marvin did not deserve this. I wish he had some way to live..
So true, maybe in an alternative timeline he could have been saved. Maybe a Ghost survivor kind of deal like we saw from the RE2 remake DLC.

I wonder if Kendo's Ghost survivor (minus purple gas) could be canon. We dob't know for a fact he shot his daughter and him after. last shot he could have moved n missed himself in a last effort to get out of town.
@@sparkshot Its heavily implied that he put his daughter down. She was half zombie and he didnt want her to suffer anymore. Her death was a given regardless. But the fate of Kendo himself is up in the air. Its generally accepted that he committed suicide after.
Man, I absolutely love the way they capture his expression in RE 2 remake. You could see him blink with his words of "You see one, uniform or not, you take it out", you can tell he emphasizes those words and that point.
Really lovin these videos.
For a more modern remake, they sure omitted alot of details from the original. They crammed Chris' diary together with Marvin scene and he didn't even mentioned the protest of S.T.A.R.S. members. They left both Leon and Claire clueless about the Mansion incident while in the original, they have an idea how terrifying Chris' experience was.
And I hate how they retconned Outbreak. Rita, Harry and the other officers were interesting characters. They should have at least a cameo in the remake.
This is why I would love to have Outbreak have a Remake. We get the chance to see Rita and crew, Marvin again leading, and you're right. The Remake did change that fact on what happened to the STARS team post RE1.
Actually, if you take a look in his office, you can find their name plates on their desks to unlock Leon's desk.

Marvin was almost hard to kill in the original RE2 when he turned into a zombie so I just always run from him.

You're Absolutely right, When I was a kid playing the original RE2, I was always so terrified of going back to that Office due to Zombie Marvin. The way he stood up and quickly tries to grab your character always freaked me out. Anyways thank you so much for watching!!!!

This is weird to me, cause he wasn't any stronger than any other generic zombie in either of my old RE2 copies. You sure had to kill him fast since he's close to you after the cutscene, yeah. But I can't agree w/anyone saying it's like fighting Brad (or those few mansion zombies in the first game they randomly made into bullet sponges).

That would have been a great storyline. Someone also mentioned that if he would have lived, he could have been police chief or maybe a member of the BSAA

They would have to remake Outbreak for that to happen since he was attacked in those games unless they're sticking with where he's attacked by Brad.
Should've made a dlc for the re 2 remake where you go throughout the events all the way up until Leon/Claire need help.
Call it "Last day on the job" the antithesis of Leons first day. End it with Marvin sitting in the west office then hes about to go to get some sleep or lay down to die or you know, the last option. He leans his head back and closes his eyes camera zooms in on his face slowly. Then he hears Leon or Claire in the next room. Eyes open, black screen. Credits.
TL;DR should've been dlc for Marvin that gives fan service

that's a genius title for a DLC story because that would've been a title I would have chosen as well. the dumb-asses could've done so much more with Marvin.
I love the OG RE2, watching clips or play through‘s of this game till this day gives me chills and a nostalgia rush. Bought it Valentine’s Day Of 98’, I can still remember what I did that whole year just by watching this game. I still got the official strategy and walk through capcom book in relatively good shape still for being 20+ years old.

In Resi 2 remake I played as Redfield first, so seeing the compassion and respect Claire had for Marvin was touching.

I would’ve love to see more of, Marvin. Just like the original RE2, we all knew that Marvin don’t have much time. Would’ve love to see him survived the Raccoon Police Station and left out with Leon, Claire, and Sherry. Along also with Ada Wong and Hunk.
Marvin was truly an incredible character, it'd be nice if he had a son or daughter who escaped Raccoon City before the events of RE 2 & 3 and who Leon, Chris, Claire, Jill, or Ada would encounter in a later game to deal with Umbrella. Like paying homage to Marvin.
That would be a great call back to a great character, maybe even having a small flashback of Marvin from that relatives point of view.

Marvin's always been a fav'. 2make nocked him out the park - perfection. Did need more screen time though.
Wish Capcom would do a DLC where it's Marvin's story covering Outbreak n RE2 etc. Too much of a good opportunity though, too obvious for Capcom, same as a proper Ada mission in RE2 from start to end. They don't like money it seems.

It would have been nice to seen more of Marvin and the RPD in a RE Outbreak Remake if Capcom ever gets around to it. Also, it would have been interesting to see how RPD got broken into and turned into the infested trap we saw in RE2. In RE3, you can see some places that has been boarded up.
One common theory is that RPD was generally safe until a Licker got inside and let the other zombies through.
Exactly, this is the perfect plot line to really delve into.
Marvin definitely could of got more time....
If we got a dlc for re3 remake, I wish we has a scenario where it was a countdown to gge big battle like the re3 og intro...
Or like the short film Arklay on YT where we get a look at the prior to re1 & the 2month after to get a view point in a episodic series of raccoon city until all hell breaks loose....
That would have been really cool to see an Episodic series just before the Outbreak.
I loved the direction they took with Marvin in the remakes. Although I feel how he got the bite in outbreak was better for his character, that should have stayed the canon way of how he got it.
Whenever I return to the RPD when I know Marvin is already turned, I just leave him be, I like to think he's resting. I take the long way around, up the stairs to the 2nd floor. Sucks to see and hear him as a zombie, even more difficult having to shoot at him and gore him up defending yourself from him. Salute to Marvin Branagh, he gave it all for others to survive.

Yes I wish they would have given him a dedicated Ghost Survivor playthrough or maybe a dedicated small campaign where we team up with the other Officer Elliot prior to Leon and Claire arriving the RPD station.

Marvin Branagh is/was the type of guy, we all wish we would be, if we have to face the end.
Every time I see him as a zombie, I put him out of his misery in the hope that he will find his final rest more than he deserves.
Allowing him to walk around as a zombie is unworthy of his exalted persona.
Take a bite out of crime.

Playing the RE 2 remake with the original music and sound effects was one of the most AMAZING gaming experiences I ever had.
That's awesome, personally I haven't played through RE2 Remake with the classic music yet but definitely something to look forward to.
@@HeYDeVuH The musical score for the original RE 2 is one of my favorites of all time, especially when you're in the main hall. So, to hear it in the modern remake is just INCREDIBLE. Because it's not just original music. It's all the sounds effects from the menus to the opening of the storage and even the original footsteps. Every RE fans owes it to themselves to play the remake with the original sounds at least once.

I just played re2 and 3 back to back for the first time and I’ve got to say, seeing him again in 3 was a cool surprise. He’s a really likable and well acted character, wish they gave him a slightly bigger role but can’t complain.

This is another reason why Outbreak Files should have a remake.
@drake stevens Yeah, Capcom eliminated a lot of games from history. Dead Aim is an example of a game never played. Understanding is reused ideas for Revelations. .... I wanted to note that Outbreak is still canon. Sadly, it is not. It is not a part of game history like I saw it about a month ago. This also takes out Code Veronica. I hate the rewriting of history...

@@HeYDeVuH An Outbreak Files Remake would be great. Combine both games in one story. I think Marvin should play out the same as before. He can figure out an excape with the new RCPD. Finish with him telling the others to leave just before the scene play out in RE3 Remake. I believe it would tie the games together again.

The Resident Evil 2 Remake should have had a final bonus scenario that included Marvin holding down the fort at RPD by himself until Leon and the Arklay Sheriff Daniel Cortin arrives. Saving him just moments before being bitten
There should be more dlc gameplays available to play Marvin or even Nicholai from Re3

On my first playthrough, my pals and I loved him and didn’t wanna kill him. I ugh thought it would be a good idea to at least limit him and blew his legs off. It was great until either I decided to shoot him to death which took a while or I accidentally let him grab me and of course you splat their head open when they do that. It was just like a jaw dropping moment whenever he died again

First I saw of his angle in the story of what went down in the police station I felt he deserved a great deal more time, a DLC should have been released showing his time from start to finish an how the police station ended up, it could even show how managed to clear out most of the station in the sense that it was far worse.
Yeah i do wish he did have that DLC as well.

Awesome video I was kind of disappointed they didn't give Marvin a what-if. Everybody else got one Kendo the mayor's daughter even that umbrella soldier that nobody ever knew got one also he was never in one of the movies so yeah he is an awesome character and I think Capcom kind of did Marvin a little dirty just saying I mean you got all these characters that wasn't important got more Spotlight than him
I said the same thing...I love me some RE2/RE2 Remake but that made side-eye Capcom...I'm side-eying even harder now that I know he had a much bigger role 🤨
I was hoping for the same thing, it would amazing to have a Marvin Ghost Survivor playthrough. Though maybe we'll see him again in a Remake of Outbreak.
@@HeYDeVuH that will be if Capcom did like a marvel what if make a Resident evil game like what if Marvin did survive and he's with Leon or with Claire then as time went on he joined the government with Leon and they made games based on his story I'm sure if they ask marvel wouldn't mind cuz you know they best friends with Capcom they just call it like capcom's production a what if Resident evil the survivor of Marvin but hey there is a rumor saying they going to remastered two more games and I think outbreak is one of them could you play Red evil 3 remake and you go to that police car by the police station after the Nemesis fight you would hear Kevins broadcast and probably Resident evil operation raccoon City I think they should reboot that just don't let them be connected with the main character like they did that's what messed it up on the old one just let wolf pack stay out of sight cuz they did mention wolf pack in the backstory and also Wolfpack was at the police station cuz if you walk down the hallway make sure you have your speakers up or your headphones up you do hear the helicopter and it's not the crash helicopter that you hear it's there helicopter and they the ones who shot down the helicopter to start the fire and also they one that dropped off the Mr x because they really didn't show how Mr x got there it really didn't show how the helicopter shot down it's like they kind of kept that opening and also maybe that's why chief Irons was going crazy he probably saw wolf pack in the police station make sense

The cops in outbreak and file 2 really were badass and I'm glad they carried that over into the remake
They deserve to have a remake so we can see how things were going in the middle of the chaos within the RPD
While replaying through RE2R I noticed a difference in how the virus will effect Marvin depending which character you play, As Claire he just gets caught off guard while still being a little jumpy but as Leon Marvin makes noises similar to the rest of the zombies before pulling his gun out on Leon and even yelling at Leon that detail is awesome yet sad
Yes that's true, also you can notice how he talks to Leon compared to Claire.

I would have liked to have seen a mini-game/mercenaries mode with Marvin which took place around the time he got bit to when he met Leon/Claire.

While I wish he could’ve had more screen time before succumbing to his wounds, I’m glad he had a lot more time vs the original. I keep saying this, but I really need to dig out & play the Outbreak series. The little bit I played was fun, but I just bought games like crazy when I was young & didn’t have(outside of phone) a single bill to worry about.
