    Great reaction as always man.
One thing to note: Mike was 100% on the money with his advice to Saul about Walter. Had Jimmy - sorry Saul - not decided to go against Mike's advice and bring Walt into the fold, Walt would've been killed by the Twins. By the time Walt and Saul cross paths, he's already responsible for Tuco's death. Walt would've died in his own bedroom via an axe and the Twins. The ONLY reason Walt wasn't executed (and likely tortured) at that point was because Saul had requested Mike to bug Walt's house. That's when he saw Walt break into his own home (after Skyler had kicked him out and changed the locks), then he saw the twins roll up, and got Gus to call off the hit.
If Jimmy had taken Mike's advice, Walt would've died as a "small potato". Gale wouldn't have been killed by Jesse (meaning Jesse maintains his innocence and never kills anyone). Hank and Gomez wouldn't have been killed by Jack and the Nazis. Gus wouldn't have been killed by Hector. Mike wouldn't have been killed by Walt. Jesse may not have been through as much pain as it turned out - heck he may have ended up running the lab with Gale and lived happily ever after with Andrea and Brock. Andrea wouldn't have been killed by Todd. Drew Sharpe wouldn't have been killed by Todd. Saul's criminal law empire could've ran for decades. The Laser Tag could've still been in operation!
That single decision to go against Mike's advice, is what tore down EVERYTHING.
The death of Jimmy was when Kim left him.
The death of Saul was when he chased Heisenberg.
The death of Gene is when he......

"I'm not falling for your schemes anymore, Jimmy."
5 minutes later: "Maybe he lets this one go."
Not seeing how you got to being told Kim was dead. That was a long animated conversation, what reason is there to be in an obvious argument with any one telling you that. Kim, believing Jimmy is dead or disappeared wouldn't be in a warm and fuzzy mood about a highly wanted criminal calling her at work. He thought he'd get sympathy, he probably got told to disappear again. Hence, Gene again becomes what Chuck always said he was...Slippin Jimmy.

This episode was absolutely incredible, not that it had particularly shocking, high tension moments like a few episodes this season but the pure craft of this episode, the parallels between Saul and Gene, especially the final scene walking up to the school/door for example were unbelievable. The transitions this episode were top-tier, especially the grave-bed one, probably the best in the entire series! The most impressive part though was how they integrated Walt and Jesse in, ever since they were announced I was trying to think of a way they could cleverly Include them in Jimmy's story without it seeming like fan service, not only they did they manage to do that, with important scenes like mentioning Lalo which shows why Saul isn't constantly terrified in Breaking Bad but these scenes completely recontextualise the entiety of that series. The foreshadowing of Saul riding shotgun to the scene with Mike shows how integral he was to Heisenbergs empire. It was right under our noses the entire time, yet nobody saw it coming. Unbelievable writing yet again.
Highly recommend reading some writeups and analysis of this episode, there's some fantastic parallels between Gene and Walt and this incredible reddit post about meta storytelling and how Gene doesn't know that the show is meant to be over. (The decaying video tape intro, 13 episodes instead of the normal 10 where he has a pretty happy ending after ep10 etc) Really fascinating stuff! I thought it was impossible but they might actually pull off an even better ending than Breaking Bad.

I think Saul’s going after another person with cancer will ultimately lead to his downfall, again. By the end he had a bit of a Heisenberg vibe when the two were asking how much is enough. Incredible stuff. I can’t believe we’re so close to the end.

I think he was actually talking to Kim. If it was just someone else telling him “no you can’t talk to her” he’d have just found another way. It wouldn’t have provoked that level of rage. Hearing she died would’ve brought out grief. If it was anything other than Kim herself telling him she has a new life now and to stay the fuck away from her he’d have calmly kept looking for her and not engaged in the reckless behavior at the end of the episode.

Hank was so annoying watching Breaking Bad the first time, always an obstacle. In retrospect, he's the hero. I think with Better Call Saul, we will rewatch knowing that Chuck was right all along. Jimmy can never change. He'll destroy everyone around him. He's an addict.

It was so refreshing to see the og duo again, and imagine Walt and Jessie having to deal with a calculating psychopath like Lalo.

This has probably been pointed out by many others but Saul and Francesca had actually already planned that phone call in Breaking Bad. In the scene where they destroy all the evidence in Saul’s office shortly before he disappears he tells Francesca to be at the pay phone and wait for his call at 3 pm on November 12th. So they were not in regular contact. It was a one single planned phone call. But it’s crazy to think that they already planned this phone call in breaking bad 9 years ago even though they didn’t show what it was about until now.
Edit: That scene was actually not in Breaking Bad 9 years earlier but rather in Better Call Saul 4 years earlier. Still an impressive setup, though.

As the episode goes on, the color sequences become displaced closer and closer together. Almost like there'll be a convergence at some point.
However with context, I don't think Jimmy has ever been 'Saul' in the show, but rather that's who we see in Breaking Bad. So, I think we were shown these sequences specifically because these are the few moments when 'Saul' showed his Jimmy side. His true self. Just more context to emphasise moments in Breaking Bad.
I have a theory that when we see Kim again (that's *if* we see her), the screen will fade from black & white, to color.
As someone who loves the movie 'Memento' - if you've seen it, you'll know that film deals with time, and represents two different points in time by their difference in shot composition - one being in color, the other being in black & white - when they converge at the same point in time, the sequence fades from black & white, to color.

Why do people keep saying that Mike was wrong about Walter? He was right 100%. They didn’t want to work with him because he wasn’t an experienced criminal and would probably cause them problems, which he did. He also killed Mike because he forgot that Lydia already had the list. Very amateurish mistakes.

I took that reaction to the phone call as him talking to Kim, actually. It gave off the vibes of an old married couple that’s mutually abusive to one another, like arguing over whether or not their kid is allowed to have Sprite on the weekends.
I think whatever they spoke about is what put Jimmy on the path he chose for this episode. Sitting there at the crossroads, while yes on the nose, was a great way of showing that decision. Before he turned at the crossroad, he spoke to Kim one more time, perhaps for the last time. I took it as the last flicker of Jimmy McGill looking for someone to tell him he shouldn’t do it, to tell him that he’s in the wrong, that he’s in over his head. He probably told her what he was going to do, and she shut him down for it.
She probably told him what Jimmy wanted to hear, but Saul was the only one who heard it. He lashed out, assaulted that poor phone hook, and smashed the window of the booth, the same exact way he used to smash the trash can in the parking garage/elevator lobby at HHM.
Did I mention that this show is the best fucking show on television right now?

I hope one day we get flawless technology that can really de-age actors. I’m super satisfied with how this whole Breaking Bad/Saul universe concluded but to think of all the spins-off they could still do like Mikes life back in Philly, The Salamancas, Nacho, etc. but it would just look too silly. Even a lot of the BCS actors from Breaking Bad were noticeably aged by the end of BCS.

I think it needs to be said out loud, as I guess many people feel the same way but don't want to admit it - Aaron Paul's performance as Jesse in this episode was pretty bad. Of course the uncanniness largely stems from his voice being more mature, but also Aaron completely butchered the original Jesse's attitude and mannerism. What is weird, as in El Camino I still felt like I was watching OG Jesse Pinkman in action. Hats off to Bryan Cranston though, he played WW as good as always.

They set up the phone call in season 4, episode 5 when color, just after Ozymandias Saul retrieves hidden money in the ceiling as well as busting through the Constitution wallpaper to retrieve his shoebox with diamonds. He double checks to make sure Francesca knows where to be November 12th at 3 PM. What is November 12th, you might ask? Yes, that's the day the Hill Valley clocktower was disabled by lightning in 1955, but November 12th 2010 (the date of the call) is Jimmy's 50th birthday. This episode is called Breaking Bad, and that show started on Walter's 50th birthday.

We’re seeing both the beginning AND the end of Saul simultaneously. This episode was just beautifully executed and I love that the breaking bad call backs actually provided a lot in terms of the direction of this show and it wasn’t just a gimmicky thing to get people hyped on just seeing Walt and Jesse.
