Actually final fantasy 6 wasn't really skipped, you could turn one of the spear wielding chars into dragoon by equipping dragoon boots (for jump) and dragon horn (for continuous jump) one of my personal fave was Edgar using the holy lance.
Lore-wise the strongest melee DPS Job. They harness the power of Dragons, able to perform superhuman feats such as leaping into impossible heights, and every single member of the unit are masters of the lance. Monks and Ninjas can't do those things lel.
I love being a dragoon. We may not be the best damage dealers but we are most certainly the most durable and put in the right hands can be one of the most reliable. We also look sexy as hell in our badass armour
YAY! I don't know if you actually read my comment requesting a bestiary on the Dragoon, but I'm happy nonetheless. Dragoon is my absolute FAVOURITEST job in Final Fantasy, and the main reason I started playing FFXIV.
so im really new to this channel and ive been going through a few vids, it's nice to see the diffrent incarations of all of these monsters, summons and characters within the ff games.
Should we consider Nael a dragoon? She uses a spear, uses an attack very similar to dragonfire dive, have an attack that absorbs HP (lunnar dynamo i think) AND do meteor stream (or comet stream) that 3 or 4 Naels jumps and causes damage... what do you think Mrhappy1227 ?
Maxin Rudy Fiorese he (she)'s more of a Lancer. Dragoons are exclusive to Ishgard and (aside of the Warrior of Light) I think that there are no outsiders that learned the art of the Dragoons.
A bestiary video on my second favorite job in Final Fantasy history? Yes please! Dragoon is only beaten by Blue Mage as my favorite job because you're friggin' Mega Man when you're a Blue Mage. I really should play FFX sometime solely due to Kimahri being a combination of my two favorite jobs in the franchise.
Minnwyn Hylian They did, just haven't gotten it yet. Mainly because I want to keep my Vita digital only. Those game cards are just way too small. Plus Vita memory sticks cost way too much.
No mention of their shining role in final fantasy tactics? For shame mr happy. Dragoons offered great tactical abilities and attacks with their jump and reach benefits with spears.
as a small update to FFXV since the video is a bit old already, Aramea is the name of the Female character, which later in the game she becomes your ally for certain chapters, and as expected, she is basically a modern Dragoon. up until now, the Dragoon tradition has not died yet, and i hope the tradition keeps on gonig.
In ff6 you can get a relic called dragoon boots i think which swaps "attack" for "jump" and if given to a lance user like edgar it boosts the damage of jump.
ForzaTerra89 If you've never played a melee job before, dragoon would be a good start imo. Only two skills with positionals but still nice dps and fast to learn. Ninja has only one positional (I think), yet the skill system could be a big challenge for most players. If played correctly, monks can deal the highest dps considering my experience with this class, but you need to stick to positionals and keep your stacks all the time. I'm not a regular melee player though, so please correct me if I'm wrong :) I think this could still give you some ideas
ForzaTerra89 Dragon is bay far the simplest and easiest to learn, but as a result many can see it as boring. I personally like it a lot myself (not as much as my Warrior, mind you) but it's something to consider. Your rotation is really easy to learn and you only really have to stay behind the enemy, but you might find that boring. I'd just recommend trying all the classes out first.
Yeah, my Ninja is highest at the moment but im on ps4 and finding a good controller layout for it is a bit tricky. I'll get it to 50 and see then try Dragoon if the rotation is impractical but eventually im ggonna do all 3
Dragoon was my original main back in 2.0, but I didnt stick with it, even tho it's been one of my favorite jobs. No way i'm picking up back up now, with everyone wanting to be dragoons because of the expansion. I may wield a sword and shield to protect my allies now, but the eye of the Nidhog will always shine bright within my chest.
I feel like it's important to note that Ricard's son in FF2 wasn't originally named at all, and was later given the name Kain in later iterations as a nod to FFIV
Dragoon is the English localization. In Japanese, Dragoon is simply called 竜騎士 "Ryukishi" -- literally Dragon Knight. I think the English localization team could not fit "Dragon Knight" in the menu in FF4 for SNES because of character limitations so they simply truncated Dragon Knight into the portmanteau: "Dragoon". This is similar to how in Japanese "Hori Naito"--Holy Knight couldn't fit either, so the NA localization found a similar title to give Cecil. I think it's simply a coincidence that there's a real-world equivalent, but aside from name they bear little resemblance, as Dragoons were cavalry with flintlocks and not lancers or spearmen.
I am really happy with the current state of the DRG in FFXIV. I main it for my static and it is really powerful. It is capable of massive DPS numbers (I am regularly hitting 600+) and also has great sustain with its upgraded invigorate skill. The slightly higher HP of the class makes up for its low magic defence, making it very survivable as well, even capable of tanking with its off class abilities from marauder (though only for about 15 seconds while the defensive buffs are up, after that, YOU DEAD). The only real downside to the class is its very poor utility. All it offers is a 10% damage buff to another BRD in your party, giving it the weakest utility of all classes. All in all, it is a very good class right now, easily competing with the MNK and NIN classes. I hope that SE can maintain that balance through the Heavensward expansion.
+GreatMollyHatchet At the time this comment was posted, Heavensward had not been released yet and the max level for all jobs was 50. At that time, DRG had virtually no utility so my comment was definitely spot on. With the Heavensward release, DRG got a MASSIVE utility buff with its AoE crit buff. This one change skyrocketed its group utility to the point where it is almost an auto include for raid DPS if you do not need a MNK for magic damage reduction or a NIN for threat management.
Jonathan Palacios i agree. but i cobsider type 0 a worthy mention since its part of fnc, and it does have many of ff tropes, allusions. and even very important Gilgamesh story.
Minnwyn Hylian You're Probably not on the same Data center/server as Me (my Data center is Primal/ Server is Famfrit) also I'm a BLM & generally don't fall in the pit unless I'm Lagging from comcast slowing my internet down
theGassy4 Fair enough. My data center is Aether, server Cautuar. A good Dragoon knows to avoid AOEs, alternate their positions between the back & flank & when to use & not use "Jump". I do all of this :)
That's because XI and XIV go more in depth with the jobs then the rest of the games. As mrhappy himself said, at most jobs are just referenced or alluded too for any game after V.
smward87 No, He literally reads the entire description for things in FF11 and FF14, even though many other games have descriptions about as long as it. Like FF12's bestiary entrees. As well as long descriptions for every job that is present in FF1's booklet which the wiki's have word for word. He obviously is obsessed. when a summoning came up that were part of FF14 he mentions every other summoning guardian thing from FF14. He doesn't do that for any other games, even ones with more integral mentions.
Hail my fellow main Dragoons ♥
A. Mark And to you too my sister Dragoon.
John beason Ha Ha Ha... >_> **Jumps on you with fire**
John beason The shade is REAL.
Dragoons... Before the rework, we could only wear t-shirts into battle.
Actually final fantasy 6 wasn't really skipped, you could turn one of the spear wielding chars into dragoon by equipping dragoon boots (for jump) and dragon horn (for continuous jump) one of my personal fave was Edgar using the holy lance.
Ever since I was eight, I always thought of Edgar as a Dragoon.
I said it before, and I will keep saying it, FFXIV ARR got the greatest designs of all FF series.
Lore-wise the strongest melee DPS Job. They harness the power of Dragons, able to perform superhuman feats such as leaping into impossible heights, and every single member of the unit are masters of the lance. Monks and Ninjas can't do those things lel.

Reala you put dragoon, durable, and reliable in one sentence comment. Wow.
Wild Koffing floor-tank spotted
Arid2006 Rez please!!!
***** If your not dead, your not playing the job right! ( also NO rez, you'll just die again, so you can stay dead )
Rez please!!
YAY! I don't know if you actually read my comment requesting a bestiary on the Dragoon, but I'm happy nonetheless. Dragoon is my absolute FAVOURITEST job in Final Fantasy, and the main reason I started playing FFXIV.
Duck same here
so im really new to this channel and ive been going through a few vids, it's nice to see the diffrent incarations of all of these monsters, summons and characters within the ff games.
Thanks for doing this video. Considering my own LP of Realm Reborn has been playing as a Dragoon, I am grateful to see a video like this.
I love that cid, some random failed astronaut/mechanic, is also a dragoon
Final Fantasy VI didn't have a regular dragoon job or character, bu there was a relic that would grant the jump command as a nod to it.
You forgot the Valkyrie from the Bravely Default series, a job class that is effectively a name changed dragoon with a few extra moves.
Bravely Default isn't a FF game...
Dragoons: *exist*
Sora: 🔺Learn
Just learn lmao
Best armor of the classes :D
The Dragoon, the BatMan of Final Fantasy! LOL XD

Lukaz2009 Didn't SE make a HD version of Final Fantasy X a while back?
Minnwyn Hylian They did, just haven't gotten it yet. Mainly because I want to keep my Vita digital only. Those game cards are just way too small. Plus Vita memory sticks cost way too much.
true in ff6 there is no dragoon but the jump ability is usable through items
I usually almost always used the dragoon of every game in my party (except kimahri), I just love there design and abilities.
No mention of their shining role in final fantasy tactics? For shame mr happy. Dragoons offered great tactical abilities and attacks with their jump and reach benefits with spears.

This might make a short video but can we see Onion Knights in the bestiary?
In ff6 you can get a relic called dragoon boots i think which swaps "attack" for "jump" and if given to a lance user like edgar it boosts the damage of jump.
I've been thinking of training a melee. Stuck on monk dragoon or ninja. I like all 3 in different ways but I'm leaning towards dragoon at the moment
ForzaTerra89

Aranea, the Dragoon from FF15 was a very fun fight to me.
so...aranea highwind is the new dragoon generation from ffxv?
Yup, Aranea is the newest dragoon in FF
I feel like it's important to note that Ricard's son in FF2 wasn't originally named at all, and was later given the name Kain in later iterations as a nod to FFIV
Please do a bestiary about thief.
So that we can all make fun of *Zidane's* missed steals? ;)
+Albino Bob JUST GET THE GOD DAMNED STAFF, ZIDANE!

Funny, just unlocked my dragoon job today.

jdragoon099 maybe Dragoons would be the best DPS Job since the Job is a center theme of HeavensWard ;P
+jdragoon099 I would say that dragoon has better utility than monk does. Also that's it's fucking radical.
+GreatMollyHatchet At the time this comment was posted, Heavensward had not been released yet and the max level for all jobs was 50. can you do iron giant?
Ricard, Kain and Aranea are the most well known dragoons in FF
I always considered Edgar from FF6 as dragoon
the Dragoon in FF 15 will still be there.
type 0 has dragoon, i know its non main series but... if you mention xiii be fair talk about type 0 too
CalyxTDeuced but xiii is main series...
Jonathan Palacios i agree. but i cobsider type 0 a worthy mention since its part of fnc, and it does have many of ff tropes, allusions. and even very important Gilgamesh story.
wait does that mean that Final Fantasy 2 and Final Fantasy 4 are actually the Same Final Fantasy Universe?
deckire seems like it
No. Still separate universes. The story and world are obviously drastically different from each other.
Yeah im a black mage main but its cool seeing ppl poke dragons with sticks
Actually
I think the First dragoon in ff2 is the father of Kain in ff4
PH GAMING i thought so to til i read the lore.
talk about final fantasy tactics more ! dragoon was a godlike character in that game, never mentioned it :C
dragoon is also in kingdom hearts
Do Monk next they are in pretty much every game I know they are in 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 14
I usually Seen tons of dragoons Filling up Titans pit
theGassy4 Now this Dragoon... :)
Minnwyn Hylian Sorry typo... Not
Minnwyn Hylian You're Probably not on the same Data center/server as Me (my Data center is Primal/ Server is Famfrit) also I'm a BLM & generally don't fall in the pit unless I'm Lagging from comcast slowing my internet down
theGassy4 Fair enough. My data center is Aether, server Cautuar. A good Dragoon knows to avoid AOEs, alternate their positions between the back & flank & when to use & not use "Jump". I do all of this :)
Minnwyn Hylian ...oh, & when to use & not use Stun abilities.
I think that in Europe, the dragoon is called the Dragon Chevelier. (Pronounced: Sh-val-ye')
Justin Hiryu only in French, it's "Dragoon" in the German client as well
Chrissi K Ah, I knew it was one of those. Thank you.
Justin Hiryu It's Chevalier Dragon. you can translate that by ''Dragon Knight'' (Pronounced More Like: Sh-val-yay')
pjrene Hehe no, the Germans slowly start accepting English expressions in their games :DD
Seroz Yes, you are correct.
doh I've only just started FF IV didn't know how the game was going to go :(.
Iam a dragon and proud of it!!!!!!!
Dragoon had his first appereance in "EUROPEAN/JAPANESE" FF3 :P
EXCUSE ME XD i didnt See The rest :P
Is ff2 and 4 connected?
no, two seperate games without connection to eachother.
Rez please.
GERONIMO!!
kinda late, but as a rench person I can say it pronounced like ''Rich-Arr''
FF6 Dragoon Boots
richard litteraly means richerd in french
Dragoon? You mean Samurai? I knew you meant Samurai.
Where the fuck is FFT?
khimari. i agree..ppl don't really pay attention to all of the details
I take it you don't care for tactics very much.
The way you pronounce things confuse me sometimes.
Lol how is it you manage to mispronounce so many easy names...
I really like these vids... but seriously you spend so much more time on 11 and 14. please increase the time spent on non-mmo titles please.
That's because XI and XIV go more in depth with the jobs then the rest of the games. As mrhappy himself said, at most jobs are just referenced or alluded too for any game after V.
