- It’s safe to assume that you and I are fans of the superhero genre because you are watching this video, and I am narrating it. Now, as two people who love superheroes, we have seen a plethora of villains, some cunning like the Joker and some uber-powerful like Darkseid. However, the DC universe recently added a new group of villains to its long list, and they are the most fascinating group of villains that I have encountered recently. These people go by the name Court of Owls and are comprised of the most well-connected, richest, and most ancient families of Gotham. From a distance, it may seem like Gotham runs because of its politicians, the cops, and Batman. Some may say that the criminals control Gotham. However, all these people, including Batman, are mere pawns in the great game that the Court of Owls has been playing since a time when Gotham didn’t even exist. The Court members wear ghoulish owl masks, and meet in secret rooms where they hold Court, and decide the future of Gotham and their list of enemies to be executed. Interestingly, every owl has to have talons, and the Court of Owls creates super assassins called Talons, who are sometimes reanimated humans. Created by Scott Snyder, The Court of Owls first appeared in the 2011 comics titled The New 52 and became a favorite of anyone who had the luxury of reading the comics. In fact, Robert Pattinson remarked in a recent interview that his Batman should come face to face with the Court of Owls. So, in this video, we will introduce you to this cunning, nefarious, and sadistic cabal, before we dive deep into the New 52 story arc that featured the Owls. Let’s begin, shall we?

I can definitely see Pattinson’s Batman take on the Court of Owls. A dark, gritty detective case that would fit in perfectly with that universe.

Honestly, I thought this was one of the coolest batman ideas. Fighting the very city your suppose to protect.
For a group that controls Gotham since the beginning, they let Gotham fall into despair.
Why do you think it end up that way? They control Gotham City in way, that is useful to them alone. They are (in way) corrupt politicians that steal public money. And if Gotham City become too bad even for them? Just burn it down and built again with them deeply in its roots.

I am wondering, if they hunted Waynes, but never let them die out, because that bat prophecy about Wayne. It would explain, why they were in Gotham in first place and how Bruce's family survived. When they decided to kill Bruce, there was already Damian and other (adopted) children in play to keep Wayne living.
They would've been interesting villains in Batman: TAS and The Batman (2004).
Maybe we'll get them as the villains of Batman Caped Crusader.

While the Court of Owls was in the Gotham live action show, the story was changed to be a group created by Ra's Al Ghul as one of many groups controlling parts of the world with Ra's secret group being a step or two higher. Also, while Ra's Al Ghule is not known to torture and murder unnecessarily, in the Gotham show he was shown to be just that by way of taking the life of a child in front of Bruce. And when the Court was no longer necessary, Ra's Al Ghul purged them all out of existence. The story of the Court of Owls in that show is not as good as in the comic and I get the sense that the writers didn't know the lore all that well.

Well the Comic isnt bad but the ending of the City of Owls storyline is not that good .. too much mystery is still there and nothing is explained for real...
I could see why people don't like it. Altho, just from reading your comment, in this case, it can be a good ending. Afterall, the Court is much more of a mysterious organisation and the comic itself puts an effect on you, the effect of "I wanna know more".

That 1st story arc written by Snyder is 1 of the best Batman comics of all time. Now after their 1st appearance they definitely started becoming lame but I think they could still be used correctly we just need the right writer to pick it up.
