On your whale story: I remember one time visiting a giant indoor playplace. I was feeling completely lost. I cried without making a sound before trying to subtly follow some older kids out of there. It was the most terrifying experience of my young life. It was great...
Bricolage and the other maps by that creator have swiftly become some of my favorite maps in the game. gm_triphouse is easily my favorite, it's so weirdly nostalgic and all of the sections always seem to remind me of different parts of my childhood, some pretty clear and i remember exactly what they remind me of, and others vague with me not even being able to tell whether those memories were actually real or not. And the weird styrofoam and rubber look that everything has just adds to it immensly. They make me wish for an anemioapolis style game that focuses less on pools and more on endless children's play areas. 10/10 hope the creator makes more of these maps
The first map with the seemingly random locations and constant changes in setting and decor reminds me of a sideshow called Meow Wolf. In particular, it reminds me of The House of Eternal Return, where the whole attraction is featured around the idea of a singular house that connects to various alternative realities. This is a real place, by the way, an actual funhouse you can explore. There's also Omega Mart which is the same idea, but the house is replaced with an interdimensional supermarket, and the locations are more or less based around consumerism and the like.
Definitely get that uncanny valley feeling with the minecraft map. It all feels familiar yet very off as well. Like the upside down of minecraft lol. The last map feels like it could be one of the backrooms levels. Reminds me of the playrooms aesthetic.
I must have too much radiotvsolutions on my mind, since I when I saw that traveling floating head thing in the first map the first thing that came to mind was Benrey from HLVRAI. The evil baby heads in that one section of the map just made me think of scorpy all the more lmao
Anyone else see a guy in the rockface at 7:37, I'm sure thats just the texture defaultly, but it works so well for this map, cause you can see a face, and somewhat of a body.
around 16:12 this looks like LSD dream emulator (i know so many people could draw comparisons to that but its cool reading other comments on what the source is! enlightening.)
these literally are the best to watch right before bed. I hope you never stop making vr garrys mod, the vr garry mod series is, the only way I can describe it is therapeutic. It's so comforting.
( 16:12 ) The statue you we're referring "maybe a racist cartoon" was actually inspired by Hieronymus Bosch's painting of Hell, the guy with half of his body was hollow and cutted. you could also see his painting in the "door painting" ( 15:45 )at the gallery where you enter to that room. If you didn't know who he is I suggest to take a look of his artworks it's really good and an eerie depictions of Hell.
Regarding the part of the map from the thumbnail, what is depicted in that room is the same as on the painting you go through. A very interesting painting by Hieronymus Bosch called The Garden Of Earthly Delights".
That flame anomaly area from the BLAH CS:GO map is actually based on a painting by the dutch artist Hieronymus Bosch, who lived during the 1400's. His art is very surreal for the time and usually includes monsters and other strange creatures as a centre point. The painting that the map is based on is actually the hell section from his painting of the garden of eden.
As a longtime Nipper fan (the creator of Blahhhh) he took inspiration from alot of famous painters, but mostly Bosch. All his maps were made for counterstrike originally so I'm very happy we have gmod ports
Thank you very much for playing my map, Minecraft Abandoned Cave. I'm sorry the map is a bit short and doesn't really contain cave like elements from minecraft, i think i pioritised zombie survival gameplay like clipped surfaces over blocky terrain. The cave was not actually supposed to be caved up, but i did that out of performance/optimisation. Eitherway, thank you very much for reviewing my map :D.
the minecraft map does remind me that there is a minecraft VR mod (vivecraft I think its called? despite being named after the vive it works on most VR though). It's kinda neat because beyond just the VR capabilities it also adds climbing claws which are fun
"This doesn't even feel like a Source map this feels like a map in whatever engine Quake was on" Source is literally just the Quake Engine with a tone of physics modeling input into it though.
Finally you checked more nipper maps i still remember the old days of css when i played on j2 nipper abstract maps they where soo cool, thx for the nostalgia burst :)!
To me, the last map feels threatening and creepy because it has that weird liminal vibe. A child’s play area is designed for children to play in (who knew?), so when it is empty, it is no longer serving its purpose. When that purpose is no longer being fulfilled, it makes you think, “what happened here for it to be empty?”. There’s this feeling of dread, which is amplified by the lack of context (children’s play areas are often empty at night, for example, but there’s no indication that’s the case with this map). I saw a comment ages ago about how liminal spaces feel like areas created by an AI or aliens. Like, if an AI or aliens had limited knowledge of humanity and tried to create a human environment based on these limitations, with the liminal space being the end result. This actually squares with a lot of liminal images because they often manmade scenes as opposed to nature…and we do see liminal images in nature, something manmade exists within, or a manmade action has taken place somewhere (like trees being cut in a certain way, or a path curving through a forest). So yeah, wrapping this all together, it gives off a bodysnatcher kind of vibe. Like, an alien has created a human-based environment based on what it knows about humanity, in an attempt to snare humans. However, this plan isn’t as effective as intended, as humans can sense the threatening vibe and feel the sense of dread that comes with liminality. That’s my theory, though. I could go on, but I’d be rambling further at this point.
What would be really horrifying to me on this ball pit map is if you return to rooms where you've been and found that more and more balls appeared. Like, you have restricted time and tries to find an exit, as some rooms become untraversable.
i love nipper and all his maps when i was younger i used to play on a server that had 24/7 nipper maps and made my childhood a better one i really miss to see a good server with nipper's maps but sadly they all died years ago
9:45 I swear that 3D illusion always happens when a lighter colored image/text is in front of a mix of dark blue and black. The same thing can be seen on the thumbnail of AustinMcConnell's "The Greatest Paralympic Scandal of All Time." There are probably better examples, but it's the first one that comes to mind.
The first map was for Deadmach for Half Life i think, the guy that created it was very particular at making maps, Minecraft is a scary game more so when you download mods to make it even worst.
7:30 This reminds me of something that freaked me out growing up. The Ripley's aquarium we used to go to has this painting of a sky above the open shark tank, and the sight of it has always inexplicably freaked me out. I don't live close by anymore, but I'd like to go again and see if it still scares me.
that last one gives me the feeling that those orbs are actually eggs about to hatch not only are you lost in there forever but eventually you'll have to deal with different size nightmare critters running around you'll see them pretty small but what about the eggs that are so much bigger than you what's gonna hatch from those
for a few minutes i have been thinking where could i see the third map, since it was weirdly familiar to me. then i remembered, NecrosVideos did a weapon mod showcase on it.
You know this also reminds me of adventure time where of most of the strange weird caves and buildings of their world and I remember my play areas and malls all the strange things that linger in my memories
To this day I'm still wondering if there's a shader for Minecraft that replicates Source's lighting. It's a mix of realistic yet still keeping the game's original pixelated nature without going overboard.
Love your vids, especially the playthroughs of horror-esque games! Have you ever tried out or heard of Barotrauma? It's a game about you controlling a submarine in the deep oceans of Jupiters moon Europa. You navigate between points on a Map and have to actually drive using the subs sonar. You can exit the submarine at any point, but you'll have to be ready for the creatures beyond the metal shell of your vessel. It can be played with friends or bots. Would absolutely love to see your opinion on it!
Some maps that I found and I think you would like: Ashpit rp_leavenworth gm_Lair gm_Valley City 17 Aftermath To be honest, you can play all of these maps on one video because they aren't too big
the lightings not weird, the sounds not weird, the fog is not weird it can all be done with mods/shaders/etc. wat is weird is that fence under the water in that mineshaft lol.
these games remind me of a game on roblox called "MIND MURDER PALACE" it was such a cool and unique experience and it has alot of this type of novelty.
Hey, Librarian! i just wanted to ask you since i’m a big fan of all your content, do you know if you could remove the corpse texture from your files so we don’t have to see a dead guy in any new gmod videos? you’re my favorite youtuber & it would be hard to watch your gmod videos if i have chances of seeing a burned face, thank you for reading, i hope you’re having a nice day 💖
YO, you talking about the giant whale statue just woke up dormant memories in me! I remember the EXACT SAME THING! I was like a weird inflatable bouncy castle thing that opened and closed its mouth and you climbed, went in the mouth and could jump off or slide down the back, right?
I think one great liminal map you should try out (Even though the trend has died down) is the Backrooms map but the one where they made it to look like Kane Pixels version of the Backrooms from his RUclips short film series, it's a very well made map and the atmosphere is both terrifying and amazing.
100% I got stuck in a child "play tubs" or what ever call them. I 100% remmber it. It was a burger king (Which got torn down "YES!") but I was playing and climbed to the top. I could see my family setting at a table. I started crying and banging on the plastic window and it took my family to relies I was missing when they got the food and was calling me. My dad had to go up and get me down. The crazy thing is my mom took a photo of me going down the slide. I had such the biggest smile on my face and yet I was just moments ago panicking and crying. But I will say this, I was such a brave boy that I still played in them. and they don't really bother me. HA...maybe I should make a map, and make you get lost, and when you look down though the windows you see a family eating with a empty chair. and they randomly call out "Come out, it's lunch time" but you never find they way out.
Just curious as to what your VR set up is? I’m looking to get one and honestly you’re the only channel I watch that uses VR with gmod and that’s the only game I plan on using it for. So if you could let me know or if anyone has a suggested brand that would be appreciated. Thank you.
Hey I was wondering if youd play a Game called “the beginners guide” I think it’s right up your alley and it’s an incredible game, you could also check out the Stanley parable although I’m not sure if that game would really be your thing, but please do Check out the beginners Guide I’d really love to see you play through it and hear your perspective
The Librarian being terrified of a child's play area is exactly the kind of grit I've come to expect from our courageous youtuber.
"Blahhh" was made as a Counter Strike map. There is also still one secret room you missed ;)
I bet you gotta jump in the eye!
The secret is inaccessible in gmod unless you noclip. The reason why is because most of the objects you need to interact with don't work in gmod.
On your whale story: I remember one time visiting a giant indoor playplace. I was feeling completely lost. I cried without making a sound before trying to subtly follow some older kids out of there. It was the most terrifying experience of my young life. It was great...
I remember being swallowed by a whale probably thousands of years ago, but God let me out of course
LOL
I remember a dream in which it was a dimly lit hallway, and it spiraled further away from me as I walked deeper into it
Interesting. I never had any experience like that as a little boy. I was always at home wasting away at the computer.
I was not so lucky. My dad had to get me out.
16:12 That's a reference to "The Garden of Earthly Delights", a painting by Hieronymus Bosch.

22:22, look librarian, ropes! you can use those to traverse pits.
hlvrai might not be as good as freeman's mind but its still funny.

func_vehicle is a right, not a privilege.
WHY HAS VALVE FORSAKEN US!?

He has Dalì moustaches
dude i love when he does gmod videos , i think this game has so much to offer , and its such a classic to alot of people

I always enjoyed the soundscapes in NIPPER's maps but I understand why you had it off
i love nipper and all his maps when i was younger i used to play on a server that had 24/7 nipper maps and made my childhood a better one i really miss to see a good server with nipper's maps but sadly they all died years ago
Hello! Return to the Liminal Archives... There's something waiting for you there.

this map features the garden of earthly delights, +10 cool points
the first map was originaly made for counter strike 1.6 and aparently every version has small diferences and easter eggs
The first map's sense of humor leads me to believe that you were supposed to "sit" on the sharp object at 23:50 for the secret to activate :p
Id love to see you play Myst, its got some really cool areas and "fairly" recently had a VR one come out.
Me: color good
The bookman: *philosophy intensifies*
that last one gives me the feeling that those orbs are actually eggs about to hatch not only are you lost in there forever but eventually you'll have to deal with different size nightmare critters running around you'll see them pretty small but what about the eggs that are so much bigger than you what's gonna hatch from those
4:16 Quake engine is a direct predecessor of GoldSrc, which is a direct predecessor to Source, so that makes sense, I guess 🤔
28:35 - Boy the NEW RTX shaders-update to Minecraft looks "interesting!"
Many doors, Ed boys!
So excited for project zomboid!
Finally another video I love them man.. thanks for everything liberian ♡
I remember playing hide and seek on the third map. Very nostalgic indeed
for a few minutes i have been thinking where could i see the third map, since it was weirdly familiar to me. then i remembered, NecrosVideos did a weapon mod showcase on it.
Nipper's maps don't hit the same without the audio.

Those weirdly weird maps sure are... weirdly weird! 😄
Your videos are the best bro I spent hours watching you on my TV
such great videos to watch while drawing! really sets the perfect vibe - and the jumpscares always get me too 😂
Sadly you do not have working sounds in Blaahh. There is suppsoed to be music and custom sounds. Also this map was made for Counter Strike Source.

I Love Hes Voice

Hello everyone and welcome back to librarian gives you an existential crisis in the first three second of the video
It’s sad I’m sick but this will make me feel better

@John Calder ok thanks for clarifying that you're gross? idk why youre commenting under mine just to tell me you like seeing burnt dead faces.
Minecraft VR is an actual thing!
Another great video 👍

There are many maps like Blahhh.
J2 Abstract Pack.
So does every Burger King just have a baby shaped door?
blahhh was actually originally made for css i believe !
space dinner reminds me of that chincken invaders(game where you shoot chicken with a spaceship) stop
I think one great liminal map you should try out (Even though the trend has died down) is the Backrooms map but the one where they made it to look like Kane Pixels version of the Backrooms from his RUclips short film series, it's a very well made map and the atmosphere is both terrifying and amazing.
Hello, Librarian! Glad to see another video from you!
Im not gonna lie I really hope you do some non VR GMOD maps as well as the VR induces motion sickness for me. :(
I want see u play more maps like this weird and liminal.
100% I got stuck in a child "play tubs" or what ever call them. I 100% remmber it. It was a burger king (Which got torn down "YES!") but I was playing and climbed to the top. Love them.❤
Idk why but that first map I feel like I’ve seen you cover it before
39:03 cue killer klowns form outer space theme
You should play nippers other abstract maps
Do any of the chests in the mineshaft open I would be curious if there was anything funny in there
Really weird.
good vid love it
Could you do more tf2 maps ? Love your content
Just curious as to what your VR set up is? I’m looking to get one and honestly you’re the only channel I watch that uses VR with gmod and that’s the only game I plan on using it for. So if you could let me know or if anyone has a suggested brand that would be appreciated. Thank you.
Oh yeah, Whomobile made a whole video about these maps from blahhh a couple months back.
42:25 i was a wired kid then
Actually, Minecraft does fully support VR....
If anyone is interested in Learning more about blahhh I’d recommend watching whomobile video on it

Map 1. Interesting and twisted.
Map 2. Minecraft in GMod whatever. I’m not into Minecraft.
Map 3 Balls!
Any questions?
