    Absolutely stunning, I would love to see one with slots for books, laptops, and pens in the interior and side pockets! Also, I bet if you flip the buckle for the top straps, you could get a really tight look to those straps! Absolutely incredible and your daughter is incredibly fortunate to have you as a father. The amount of love and care that went into this to make it perfect for her really shows your character. You didn't just show us how to make a bag, but what it is to be a great dad.

    That looks a lot like dieselpunk's motoko mini bag. I'm totally not saying you stole it or anything. This is impressive stuff. I love that perfect mix of beauty and function. If you asked someone to imagine the purest, most quintessential crossbody leather bag, this is what would come to their mind. Or a messenger bag. Some people are stupid.
    I like to think my version is up their with yours and DPs, but I bet that the one thing each of us would change would be the depth of our pouches, especially considering the weight of leather you have to use to get this guy to hold its shape. They're so small and squarish and nothing fits in them without looking awkward! Water bottle? Ruins the whole clean look. Cell phone? Absolutely perfect, but who's gonna open a strap each time they want their phone.
    Another feature that I have come to love is magnets disguised as straps. A backpack that I had years before starting leatherwork had them and they make opening and closing your stuff SO EASY. On buckleguy, they sell some for like a few bucks per set, but I buy from applied magetics because they're made in Texas and they're cheap. Like I bought a set of 50 little button magnets from them for $100 or something like that.
    Good work my friend! Designing your own patterns is an automatic level up.

    • @RoadAgentLeather
      @RoadAgentLeather  Год назад

      Thanks for watching! This is definitely NOT my design. I purchased the pattern from Etsy seller VasileAndPavel. Yes! The pockets really could be just a half inch deeper/taller. I've used magnets before and found they weren't strong enough for actual use. What magnetic claps are you using?

    The saddle stitching comment did it, brought back memories of sore hands and the “want to make something” urge.
    I really like your long straight edge a lot, it “sounds” like anodized aluminum, name looks like “savage no slip grip”? (Yep, just found it on Ama$on). +++ on the Al knife.

    Forgive my asking, but maybe you can help me. I recently bought an old suitcase for propwork, but it was damaged in transit. big hole punched right in the body. Now people have suggested I just put a patch or such over it, but I was wondering.... is it possible to make a new body for it? Is there a prefered leather for such things, ways of hardened it to hold the shape, etc. It feels a waste for this suitcase to have lasted so long only for it to be deemed useless due to transit damage. Thank you for taking the time to read my inquiry

  • @MichaelMcClelland1
    @MichaelMcClelland1 Год назад +1

    Are the keyhole cuts upside down? I'm not sure which direction the expected force is going to most come from so I have no idea which way they should go, but it seems like the pin wouldn't lock into the slot in that orientation to my decidedly untrained eye.

    • @RoadAgentLeather
      @RoadAgentLeather  Год назад

      The keyhole orientation is correct. The stud doesn't lock in the thin part of the slot: It's there just to allow the hole to open up enough for it to push through.

    That was an epic build. Are the regular hole punches you use (the one with multiple punches) not heavy enough for the hard liner you used?

    • @RoadAgentLeather
      @RoadAgentLeather  Год назад +2

      Thanks for watching! It's not that my regular chisels aren't strong enough (they are). It's that this pattern is engineered with certain spots having variable stitch lengths (the hole spacing). A multi-punch chisel still would have helped for those long, straight runs, but I didn't have them in the required spacing/size. And I didn't want to shell out for new sets of punches just for this one project.
