I appreciate your lack of waste in how you cut the parts, for the most part. You’re better than others. I’m more zen in my approach and really do generally let the hide speak before I cut. Again, I will say, only as a call-back joke, “We don’t need no stinking pattern”. I learn something.. new after watching any of your vids. Thank you. I’ve only been doing the craft for 40 yrs. i’d show some work, but nobody’s asked. Your knife skill is inspiring. However, I still think I best you on sewing without a pony. I love the handle hack! I’ve been doing it with rope. BRILLIANT! Really, I watch you more than any of the others, including DieselTony, although he’s excellent. I actually feel that you have more fun. I did shoe repair for over ten yrs. and then worked for Tandy for another nine. All that time I NEVER saw the skill and love for the craft I see in your vids. Thx, again. Keep up the beautiful work.
I’ve told you before on IG that I’m planning to make one of your bags.. it was the Valise.... but now I’m watching this thinking.... YES!!! Dude your work every damn time I see it is stunning! I drool over the leather, the shop, the tools your boy makes, the designs, and as has been stated over and over.... the production quality of every photo, video, and post you put out. Makes me absolutely realize that I need to get better! Thanks for the motivation Artie!
I know I've watched this before, and it's been now over year since you published it but I just caught at 11:58 you v-gouged and then skived the leather. WOW that makes so much more sense rather than trying to just scratch a line with an awl or using the mark from wing dividers.
I clicked the link, and here I am to watch a video about how to make a satchel... but I don't even see it on the thumbnail. And I've been looking for it for like 10 minutes now... so I called my wife in to see if she could find it. She pointed right to it, and the darndest thing... I still can't see it! Also apparently I was just informed I'm sleeping on the couch tonight. Joking aside, wonderful job on the satchel and video!!
another amazing product. since i have found your channel i have seen just bout every vid. love the format, and you have renewed my interest in leather working, which i haven't done in over 25yrs. thank you Sir. 🍻
Oh man. I was awake until sun up last night designing something similar. And today whilst having a lazy day I find someone's done almost the same thing. Years ago. The differences are minor aswell. Mine is smaller and that's prob the most outstanding difference. That and I'm using recycled copper pipe flattened out in a couple of places and using copper tube for the handle over top of leather. I just hope none of my clientele watch your videos haha. I love copper and leather and wood. This is a thing of masculine beauty. My saving grace is im in Australia 😁
Had to stop the video at the 0:02 mark and just left it there. I will eventually get to the bag part. Okay. I will make one. Similar but not identical. I will make you proud Rivet brother.
I keep clicking on your videos for the thumbnails but I stay for the work wish I had your skill brother I am definitely going to be getting into layered knife sheaths
Your videos are the best! Your showmanship keeps me watching them all. Love the tools, craftsmanship and best of all, the videos explaining how to use those tools with ease. Thank you and keep up the great work!
It's amazing how much great minds think alike. I'm nearly complete with a design of my own that looks similar to this but is meant to carry two fifths safely. Making my strap this weekend.
I've missed your videos and Chloe. Maybe time for another satchel with molded internal compartment for a Macbook Pro, I-Pad, Electronic pencil,, mouse and Flashdrive. You can call it "The Professor" or "The Koker". 🤣Thanks again for all your time. Cheers. TJ Koker.
Great looking bag! I appreciate all the work you put into filming. I need to up my game! I get tired just knowing the amount of work that goes into filming from countless camera angles to keep the video interesting. I know that really slows down production, but it’s well worth it. Your videos are fun to watch and highly informative! I’m envious of your workspace and steel weight & bench block collection! Have you ever released a video where you didn’t spill something on your bench? LOL
Both of you guys are so great at what you do, I’m really wanting a work bag 💼 for my tools and leather working equipment that I tote around back and forth to Tandy in between class and work..my class and job are 20 min from home so I just hang out in the city to get my leather working in..was wondering if either one of you had any input on what type of leather is best for such a bag..thanks
You and me both. Im barely half way thru this mission of making one, and starting to second guess my choice of material. Oil tanned seemed like the much more forgiving leather option in retrospect..
As I was zipping through your videos, I didn't see one for a backpack. Also, I noticed that you'd done a railroad spike knife. Would you be interested in some replacement hooks for your leather rack? I thought I counted 17 bars for your rolled leather. I'd be happy to replace those for you with some hand-forged ones, my only request is that you show us how to make a backpack. Oh, and if you could show us how to make an archers backpack that'd be even better. I suppose the difference between a regular backpack and an archers backpack is that you'd be able to carry arrows, too. So, incorporating some kind of quiver and not necessarily the round circle but rather something a bit more modern like what you'd put on a bow today. You've got some quality work here! Great job! Let me know if you're interested.
I have 7 racks total. and 250+ hides of leather. 100's of hooks. Also, the knife video you mentioned was my son. Mason. "Mascon Forge". That all being said, I don't need any hooks. I won't be making any more bag videos any time soon. A 3 hour wallet takes 40 - 50 HOURS to film. A bag video takes 60 - 80 HOURS. I'm currently booked up with orders through April 2021, so I simply don't have the time to film long videos such as bags. I need to focus more time and attention to the orders on the books.

Cool video man. Awesome bag. I see you have a copper rivet video linked. I'm going watch because I love that look. I used some other rivets to repair a sheath and i really didn't like them.
so much gear! you've got a real factory there. I've been doing a little repairing. Basically with a few punches and handstitching. What I'd love to ask you is "what allows a factory like il Bisonte, Hermes or Dooney and Burke, say, get so famous"? I know they use really top end leathers, but what do you think it would take to challenge them in terms of quality and consistency?
I just keep finding more and more awesome stuff being made by you. I thought you were wallet guy and then BAM!!!!!! Now I'm watching you making this beautiful piece! I wonder what else I'll find that will blow my socks off. How many hours/days did it take for this?
You make such beautiful items. So glad I found your RUclips channel! Also video & editing is top notch. What rivets and setting tools are you using? They look sturdier than the ones I use and much more pleasing to the eye.

13:00 sounded like the leather was mooing back at you 😂
Green plexiglas to protect the chisels and pink high density insulation foam to protect the punches?
No. The green is a dense Japanese rubber made for leather craft. Pink is a self healing cutting mat.
I wish I had more success with those damn wooden strap cutters 😊
Mine is from Romanov tools. Much better than the “classic”
It took quite a bit of modifying on my cheap Tandy to get it to work well... I should have just pony'd up for a high quality one....

I normally use 5-6oz latigo for my satchels in similar construction to this, do you think I could get away with using a 7-8oz or 8-9 veg tan?
Sure !
What weight leather is that? Could that project also be made with oil tan?
5/6 oz. yep, oil tan is great!
