Now this, this is what an electric car should be. I watched the nurburgring lap of this thing a while ago and the sheer grunt of this thing out of corners looked immense. The whole thing, really is a shmorgishborg of epicness, over 1300hp, 1000lb/ft of torque and 5000lbs of downforce at only 150mph claimed and a curb weight of only 3800lbs (not too bad for a car with 1400lbs of batteries). Not to mention it looks the business...the future is now.
I LOVE the fact it's silent it's like an assassin the whoosh as it goes by as if it's at one with nature a gust of wind....beautiful and will eat any petrol car too. The future is bright the future is electric and I can't wait!!
Many of the comments here remind me of what the steam engine drivers probably said back in the day about petrol engine cars. "No boiler, no smoke stack, no fire box!, these petrol engines leave me cold" :) Do you hear the silence? that is the sound of inevitability! There is so much juice in those batteries you could easily have an awesome sound system and vibration generator to make the car feel and sound like anything you miss. lol I see a whole new artistic / art form to market audio and kinesthetic feedback uniquely created for the car and driver. A friend of mine has a Tesla SUV 4 wheel drive with ludicrous speed, OMG! I'd give up the whole gasoline ego for that acceleration!!!! Especially if it was wrapped in body work like this car!! You notice the under body on that thing? Sweet!
Honestly all the people complaining about electric cars and say "öhh there is no sound, im such a petrolhead bla bla" this is the fucking future. what do you guys expect? that we still use fossil energy for the next 1000 years or what? and btw I love the sound of for example the Porsche 911 GT3 R or something like this, but in a few years we will have electric cars and also electric racing.
a car that makes no sound is akin to that of a lightbulb that produces no heat. as romantic as engine sounds may be, its quite inefficient because they produce energy lost in both heat and sound
Very impressive speed etc but ultimately leaves me cold. The noise, the feel, even the non-linear power delivery of a combustion engine adds additional driver dimensions that a pure electric vehicle takes away. Heel and toe, clutch control etc, even gear selection on a given set of circumstances, is lost. This is clever in it's own right but removes a great chunk of driver skill.
Rubbish drive one! there just better. its like saying oh these petrol cars are rubbish only 5 controls my traction engine got 20 and it takes only 2 hours to get ready that lack of carrying a actual fire around with me leaves me cold. oh these traction engines will never catch on! horses... etc
I think steam engines might be a better suit. Not only is there a bigger noise, there is also a more immersive feeling, and a even more non-linear power delivery. You as a driver also get to shovel coal and open and closing hutches! Much more machine-man interaction in that one.
Its not all about speed. I think the car looks fantastic. With a high revving V12 it would be stunning. Unfortunately the rise of the electric powertrain is inevitable. I guess people were saying the same thing when internal combustion engines took over as you couldn't hear horses hooves!
remember when the navy sailors didn't want to go nuclear engine as diesel engine was horsepower and class??? this is an example of our nuclear engine for the automobile!! Combustion engine is a relic!!!!
This is a cool showcar but nobody wants to see a race with cars like that. You don't hear a thing. The noise only comes from the tires and the car cutting through the air
Progress. 1918 - "I don't care how fast it is. If it doesn't have the clip-clop of hooves on a good old cobblestone road, I just can't get excited." 2018 - "I don't care how fast it is. If it doesn't have the roar of a V-12 and the smell of high octane petrol, I just can't get excited." 2118 - "I don't care how fast it is. If it doesn't have the whine of ultra high efficiency electric motors, I just can't get excited." The future is good.
That comparison is so dumber than fuck. The transition from horses to cars was a revolution. The transition from ICE to EV is just a change of powertrain. The rest is the same exact thing lol. Electric motors are not revolutionary in any way. Welcome back to reality.
Meade77 You again, LOL totally clueless. It's not just Electric Motors. It's the whole Multi Motor & BMS Ion Cells Battery SYSTEM which is revolutionary. Now large scale production cars can easily be Daily Realiable 1000HP & Limited to 217mph (Lucid Air). Even more advance stuff like Lateral Torque Vectoring at 100hz combined with Reverse Torque is beyond revolutionary for cornering handling, its basically cheating. Then there is 2nd braking system like Rimac's 600kw = 800hp of Regen, enough stopping power to survive a mechanical brake failure. When you combines all the features of Multi Motor BEVs revolutionary is an understatement, the problem is at which point is it getting dangerous.
Neojhun A change of powertrain. Still not revolutionary. I also wouldn't call someone with knowledge about cars clueless. I'd watch my wording if I were you.
Angus Chandler It's not that simple. Along with the first came a true revolution in what would be possible to do. The other is just replacing the powertrain. Nothing else.
No fun going through the Mont Blanc tunnel. Remember that episode from Top Gear and you’ll know what I mean. This is like going to the IMAX to see a silent movie...
Lol, all the people crying are like the people who cried because horses were obsolete. "But motor vehicles have nos soul and they make so much noise!" It's so regressive it's kinda funny
That comparison is so dumb it's kinda funny. The transition from horses to cars was a revolution. The transition from ICE to EV is just a change of powertrain. The rest is the same exact thing lol. Electric motors are not revolutionary in any way. Welcome back to reality.
Angus Chandler No need to welcome me to any reality. I'm doing pretty good here, unlike you EV cultists who got your heads so far up your own asses that you simply can't see the bigger picture. Batteries are an inefficient, incredibly toxic and primitive method of storing energy. Batteries are made from non recyclabe material which will go landfill in 7 years time. Landfill produces Co2 and methane. Methane is about 25 time more polluting than carbon dioxide = rendering the argument of EV's being greener completely void. The manufacturing process of batteries has it's own problems too. Lithium mining is a filthy business in every stage of the process. In reality, fossil powered cars contribute to an almost negligible percentage of the pollution of our planet. Battery powered EV's contribute to a substantial percentage. They don't solve the problem of pollution. They just relocate a small source of it, and even adds to it.
I know. It's a beaut
Ethanmeister Holy shit is it beautiful.
Looks interesting and doesn't sound like a dryer with bad bearings... Color me impressed.
5000lbs of downforce?? Lol maybe a 1000lbs
Nope. Look up Group C cars. Mulsanne Corner.

86Themadhatter real hero’s never make too much noise in town.
dude, it's an electric motor dude
Fun and catz 😱
86Themadhatter i dont think u get it, electric motors don't make as much noise due to their extreme effciency
+Fun and catz It was a joke man, i know it's electric XD
I LOVE the fact it's silent it's like an assassin the whoosh as it goes by as if it's at one with nature a gust of wind....beautiful and will eat any petrol car too. The future is bright the future is electric and I can't wait!!
If this is the future, prepare for a significant rise in pollution. Batteries are NOT green.

Silent but deadly.
what a famous line
A ninja car
Like a girls gorgeous gas.
what you hear is pure power. not 2/3 loss of power.
I don't think anyone heard anything.

You got it

This company will stir the competition
That was bloody quick tho! 😱
the ep9's gearbox whine has been tuned out of the video and is no were near this quiet it sounds like a screaming jet while going by :/
Wtf is the time?
It's so damn quick. the acceleration is incredible
a car that makes no sound is akin to that of a lightbulb that produces no heat. as romantic as engine sounds may be, its quite inefficient because they produce energy lost in both heat and sound
Time?
44 something
jeremy brainard yeah it goes through at 37, vid starts at a point it probably took about 6 to 8 secs to, yr probably spot on
44.9. And they're saying it did *44.45 a couple minutes ago *Actually it was 44.61
So it nearly broke Nick Heidfeld's record (as if the time was even recorded). That's impressive.
Dário Delgado damn.
Looks pretty cool but sounds like nothing.
Sounds like wind
i kind of like how you hear the tires and the wind but still i rather have a f1 v10
HEKTIC458 Nyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew
sounds fast. nuff said
HEKTIC458
It has a 6:45 lap time in nurburging
That quad turbo v12 woosh was so good
So - the most important thing - what was its time?
44.61 seconds
any tesla roadster?
Lap time ?? Common badwood
44.61 Seconds
the coverage has been so shit from that aspect
sounds like a jet almost. I like it

Nope. Still a lot of new cars coming with clutches

Where is the exhaust noise? Was there a problem with the video recording?
It sounded like an evil stalking demon
If they make 'The Wraith 2"... (1986)
This should be the Car!
Buying NIO stock now!!
How many times Goodwood! Get the fucking times on the screen!!!
@Aventanario You are right!!
I'm very indifferent about EVs but this is seriously impressive
Damn, that thing moves!!!
How much better would this car be with a 6L V12
matnrach it would be slower that's for sure. not sure if that's better
Barlos medicina yeah but think of the noise!
if anything they’d put a hybrid motor and engine in it because at this point nothing is faster than that, the v12 at this point just sounds cool.
I actually find it more interesting without an exhaust note.
Its not all about speed. I think the car looks fantastic. With a high revving V12 it would be stunning. Unfortunately the rise of the electric powertrain is inevitable. I guess people were saying the same thing when internal combustion engines took over as you couldn't hear horses hooves!

I want too hate electric cars so bad but there getting soooo quick
It's a whole new world, exciting times.
supra Is bae
😃
I hear air.
Hmm, the commentators talk over the entire Williams-BMW run but are silent during this one!
This is a cool showcar but nobody wants to see a race with cars like that.
You don't hear a thing. The noise only comes from the tires and the car cutting through the air
Ali Bi so what you’re saying is racing is 100% about the sound an engine makes?
Ali Bi
Petrolhead cult
Ali Bi for me that's a sigh of amazing effecincy and it makes ny cock hard
0:00 I have a second of thought that it has an engine...
EV CAR?
I wish that U.S.A made this car street legal.

I think if Nio give it a go, they could beat Heidfeld's record, since Dumbreck lost time on the grass and the active wing was in it's airbrake mode
You must be joking. This car won't get anywhere closer to the all time record set by Heidfeld. Not even in the same ballpark.
Same car to set 6:45 at the Nurburgring
Plus it's electric, so acceleration of the line is mental
See, that was my point. If you remove the wing from it's airbrake position and Peter then does a clean and committed lap, the record will go down
F1 on Nurburgring would be way faster. 2 seconds on 45 second track is ages.
I know that. I ain't comparing this to a modern day F1 car. But Heidfeld's 1999 record can be beaten. Either by the EP9 or the Volkswagen ID.R
How menacing.
Okay, that was scary to watch
Like the new Ford GT but electric!!
I would swap a small block chevy in it.
Still not as fast as Volswagon 😎
I see the thumbnail : wow what car is that ? has a sick designe / play the vídeo , i'ts a f..... Eletric 😒
It's also a chinese electric supercar.
No fun going through the Mont Blanc tunnel. Remember that episode from Top Gear and you’ll know what I mean.

It doesn't convey the speed or excitement of a petrol car

I haven't seen this car since when it got announced
VW beat NIO
NIO is a Two Seater. ID-R only has just enough space for the driver.
Oh sure... you don't say a word on this one, but talk the entire time on the F1 run.... all of my hate.
o kurwa! and yet my heart still belongs to brabham :D
It's just soulless. Sure,it's fast but there's somehow nothing exciting about it and it sounds like an electric streetcar.
